Well what can I say. It was really busy but it was Mother’s Day weekend. We had issues about the food. But the manager and staff who dealt with us was really nice and dealt with the issue there and then she was so helpful and very polite and would not let us leave until we were happy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant the staff are really nice and will do anything for you. Thank you

I never write a review but after seeing some reviews which drag down this place was not fair as we had amazing food. The King Brychan needs to be known. We originally went to Merthyr for the harvester but saw that the place was very over crowded and then the King Brychan caught our eye! We were very pleased to have gone there because the food was delicious. I think we waited 15min max for our food and the waiter who served us was very helpful and friendly. We recommended my boyfriends auntie and they went the following day and enjoyed the cavery. We both had bbq burger and extra bacon and would have it again 100%. The chocolate brownie Sunday and was delicious.

Visited as a family for a treat on the way home from a day out. Not from the area. No one greeting guest at the sign that stated please wait to be seated. Stood a while with other customers also waiting behind us to be seated. When a lady at the Bar leaned over and pointed to an area we could find a seat. So we found a table. Area was very cold. Order was taken fairly quickly. Waitress pleasant. The place has a pizza kitchen and this was the main reason we visited as three of the group fancied pizza, only to be told it wasn't being served. So alternative food ordered. Food took ages. The place wasn't busy. Saw two staff the whole visit. One male and the female waitress. Food arrived and one meal sent back as cold. Rest of the meals were warm. Almost like they had been sat under a hot plate. And with minimal staff to serve it wouldn't surprise me that they had. Quality of the food and puddings were poor. Would not recommend or visit again if in the area.

My partner and I called in here for food after a day out. We pick this place over the harvester......big mistake! Had to wait about 5 minutes for a table which was ok, but then had to wait an hour for our food, which was only a veggie lasagne and burger which I am sure doesn't take 1+ hours to cook, especially as there were quite a few empty tables. The waitress finally noticed we were still waiting for our food and politely apologised and our food arrive straight away. However my partner's burger was missing half the stuff it stated on the menu. My lasagne look as if it had either been cooked in a microwave or quickly reheated in it and was stuck to the plate. If the food was top quality the wait wouldn't have been so bad but it was poor and definitely not worthing waiting on re-order even though me we hungry. We left and went to another restaurant.

Second and final time to come here ! Last time was average today dire .terrible ,dreadful what more can I say ? !!! The most misleading menu ever in the history of menus Sunday lunch a photo of a chicken breast potatoes veg roast potatoes roast parsnips. It says see the special board waiter approached said we have chicken beef lamb and pork we both opted for the lamb well when this arrived it was lamb with a hefty bone mashed potato carrots and peas swimming in gravy I asked the waitress where was Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes? This doesn't come with the meal .spoke to the manager who apologised that we weren't happy but pointed out its two meals for the price of one well thank the Lord for small mercies !!! £15.45 for instant mash hard carrots and a bone with some lamb attached to it !! Apologies are nice actions speak louder than words !!!! Avoid here like the plague unless you enjoy tragic food at expensive prices with inept staff !!!!!

Went here on a Sunday afternoon with family. When we arrived the place was busy and we had a slight wait for a table. Ordered quickly and then had an acceptable wait time for our food. Food was piping hot and freshly cooked except for the chips which appeared to have been cooked then reheated and possibly even reheated again. By the time food was finished the pub was relatively quiet. Desserts were ordered and we waited and waited and waited for them. After waiting over 20 minutes we decided enough was enough. We cancelled the dessert order explained why and paid the bill. Even though the manager was told of the situation and the totally unacceptable wait time for desserts no apology was given. Overall a disappointing meal.

Ok lets do positives- food in general good- staff pleasant- The Blonde 30 something server (no name badge) Pleasant and attentive. She had her break while we were here and we could not wait for her to come back. Have her train everyone else!Negatives- Albino pepercorn sauce (unsure if that is just how it comes out of the bag)- Ordered drinks and seen the server input them. For the next 10 minutes the manager (Owain) who was working on the bar spent the time talking to a waitress (large older lady with pony tail not dressed in black so possibly an assistant manger?). I am sure we could have had our drinks...it was quiet enough for chats- My steak took about 50mins. I would expect half an hour for a well done steak in a place that is not busy.......- Heard several guests complaining about not being served and long waits for food although there were only 3 other tables in the section. This was not helped by the larger older lady with the Ponytail apologising to one table for the delay in food with the most condescending tone (if she doesnt want to work at The Dragonfly, I suggest you help this happen for her)- ignored whilst our server was on lunch. No excuse! Counted 5 staff that is more than the amount of tables seated in our section.CommentsLook. This isnt difficult. Put the customer first and spend time with them throughout thier experience with you. Dont huddle around the bar and chat, chat to the customers instead you never know you might enjoy it and even better, they might as well!Food is passable and the buy 1 get 1 free make it competative with Harvester on the same site.

Was told never to visit this restaurant as a lot of people have had bad experiences here, but I thought I'd try it out and give my own opinion based on my experience. There was a 30 minute wait to be seated as it was a busy Friday night, but once sat we was seen to promptly. Had a few issues with a lot of meals being out of stock, but once we ordered it was all done and dusted. The staff was clearly rushed off their feet as it was jam ram packed there, but a 45 minute wait for onion rings and some chicken bites starter? I wish they had advised us that the starters themselves was going to take that long. Greece proof paper was absolutely soaking where they had just pulled the onion rings out of the frying pan and chucked them into the bowl, then food arrived and didn't come with what I had asked for, but never the less I continued to eat. Found a big black hair in with my chips, neither me or my partner has dark hair, so that instantly turned me off. We was not once checked on, so therefore I felt left down. The poor waitress was obviously struggling with the amount of tables she had, and how busy it was. So instead of kicking up a fuss, we just paid and left. I can assure you, I will not be returning anytime soon.

We arrived about 8pm to be told that there were no prawns, mushrooms, coleslaw or jacket potatoes left. My partner ordered steak which "tasted like water" and my gammon tasted burnt. Asked if we could order dessert but they weren't taking any more orders as lights in the kitchen had gone off. I understand this is a one off but I think they should've offered us a discount or something as we did go there for a meal and most if what we wanted was unavailable and then we were unable to have a dessert. Service was a bit slow and I had to go looking for a waitress to order drinks and to ask for the desserts.

First time visit to the Dragonfly, we went for lunch around 1pm and the restaurant was a little busy. Took quite a while for the waitress to come to our table and take our order, our drinks order took some time to come and our food took around 30 minutes after we ordered. The food, however, when it did arrive was very nice. A good selection of different meals to suit most tastes on the menu. Plus the offer of 2 for 1 meals is a big positive. The desert menu looked very good but unfortunately due to the wait to be served and for the food to arrive we did not have times to sample the deserts due to prior plans.

Likes:+ There were some vegetarian or vegan dishes listed on the menu but it was clear from the outset that the staff had no idea how to prepare and cook the so-called vegan pizzas.Dislikes:- At around 7pm, there was a 45 minute wait for a table.- At 8pm, there was a claimed wait time of 40 minutes for food orders.- We ordered 2 vegan pizzas and 2 standard meals from the menu. The waiter told us there would be a 40 minute wait. After 60 minutes we asked him for some news of where our meals were. He went to the kitchen and came back and said it would be another 10 minutes. 30 minutes later we called him over and explained that things were now getting silly as we had been waiting 90 minutes for something as trivial as a pizza. A sub-manager duly appeared with the waiter, apologised and explained that our original food order had "been lost".but that we would not be charged for the food. when it was eventually delivered. - It was not possible to make one of the indian vegan pizzas as they had it seems run out of pizza bases and sauce!- Once the pizzas were delivered, the bases had been cooked but the vegetables were raw, as if they had just been dumped on top of the base.- Inattentive staff- A terrible experience from start to finish!

Cannot believe this place this evening! Myself and my parter came in this evening around 8 o'clock with 2 children and could not wait to leave! Absolutely shocking! When ordering food i was told I was unable to have fish as there was none left; this was fine so I order the sausage and mash. My partner had the smothered chicken and the 1 child had a kids meal with a garlic bread starter. My partner and I also order a side of garlic bread. After waiting around a hour we were then told there was no garlic bread left! So we then ordered onion rings and popcorn chicken instead. We was then told there was no corn on the cobs there either. Then the "meals" came. My food was completely freezing and had a thick layer of gravy skin as though it had been put in the microwave but must of been on the defrost setting! My partners smothered chicken was disgraceful also as the cheese tasted like egg and had the smallest amount of bbq sauce imaginable and uneadable chips! The childs meal was mediocre with again uneadable chips but was then told there was no tomato sauce in the building and that they had run out about 6pm! Now elsewhere would have gone to the shop to get a few bottles until more arrived. The child was then not able to eat her food as she wanted "red sauce"! Whilst waiting for food we ordered 2 glasses of Pepsi and this took an additional 30 minutes to land on the table would have been quicker to go the shop to get them and get some tomato sauce the same time! Might I add there were 2 maybe 3 other tables there so not busy atall! I spoke to the staff members who were fine and agreed it was awful and gave a measly 20% discount from the manager whilst also saying she was on the verge of burning the place down herself! Whilst our waiter actually said it was a complete embarressment! Completely unacceptable!!! How you can call it a restaurant without the bare essentials is unbelievable!

Have been visiting The Dragonfly on a regular basis since it opened, with some meals being great and others, extremely poor. This weeks visit has left us feeling that we will no longer be visiting. After a 12 hour shift, my husband came home and we decided to eat out. We were told there was a 25 minute wait for a table and 45 minute wait for food. It became obvious, that yet again, there was a lack of staff. Loads of tables full of dirty plates and glasses waiting to be cleared. This is a regular observation. When we were shown our table, we made our order quickly. The waitress "Jill" seemed totally fed up and uninterested. I ordered curry and was told that there was no rice. HOW CAN YOU RUN OUT OF RICE?? My husband ordered gammon and asked for extra eggs instead of pineapple, which Jill showed her total disproval at his choice. 55 minutes later, we had to ask where our food was, when we noticed that at least two tables who came in after us were already served. Jill tried to explain, that different foods take longer to cook than others!!!!! Whilst waiting for our food, we sat with empty glasses and had to go to the bar to get extra drinks. When the food eventually came, my husbands food was cold and all the eggs were hard and burnt underneath. The manager did not charge us, but that doesn't deal with the issue. I would rather pay and have edible food and a nice experience. I cannot understand why more staff are not taken on , if only to help clear tables. I have seen lots of people leaving because of the waiting times. It is a real shame that this pub/restaurant is not run better as it is a really lovely establishment.

The name Dragonfly .....one thinks of something swift and elegant. Sadly none of these words described the experience of this restaurant. The food was ok, although we waited over an hour. Swift? No. There was an evident lack of simple etiquette in terms of staff knowing how to lay a table- more like throwing cutlery at you. Staff communication- seemed non existent - staff were seen being left to deal with several queries whilst paying customers remained waiting patiently for their food. Simple communication is required to ensure sure efficiency of service.Food was average but ok- i would eat here again but please please please! Train your staff in simple measures around etiquette - laying a table isn't a challenge - nor is communication.

Called in at the Dragonfly for lunch on Thursday afternoon whilst in the area for a training event. I wasn't sure what to expect as the food on offer at this sort of place is normally not very good. I was surprised to find that our food was very good indeed. We ate 2 x 16oz gammon and 2 x ribeye steak from the two 2 for 1 menu. Quality of the meat was excellent. All food cooked well and hot. I have much worse steaks at places costing triple the price at posh restaurants! Will use again when in the area after walking in the beacons etc. Judging by the other reviews this place is best used when it is quiet. We had a wait of around an hour for our food which was a long wait considering it was not busy! Would have been 5 stars if not for the wait for food to arrive.

Recently came into this Marston pub (a rare occasion because me and my partner always find the service slow) but this time was a different level. Walked in to a relatively empty restaurant (i literally counted 7 tables in service, me and my partner being the 7th) where we were told by the man behind the bar to just find a seat in the right hand section (we are usually taken to a table the last few times we've been) and that there was a wait of about 45 minutes... aside from a lack of a smile and quite a stressed/miserable disposition, because it was so quiet we found it easy to find a seat and we were quite looking forward to some quick food due to so few customers. How wrong we were. We waited 15 minutes to be served by a waitress only for her to come another 5 minutes later after my boyfriend went to the bar to ask the man if he orders food at the bar where he was told rather ubruptly "no, someone will come and see us.".I asked the waitress once she'd finally taken our food and drink order how long does she think it will take for food where she said that she couldnt imagine it would be long, probably 15/20 minutes which we thought was going to be perfect so we ordered 2 pepsi's and waited for our food and drinks to arrive. We waited 15 minutes for drinks where i literally went to the bar to get them myself because they had taken so long. We then waited a further 30 minutes for our pizzas to arrive. After, may i mention a mother and daughter who came in 5/10 minutes after my boyfriend and I who had already had their order taken, drinks delivered and food on their table where they were already eating it about 5/10 minutes before ours. I simply had a cheese and tomato pizza without tomato slices, but i didnt realise that meant practically no tomato sauce either. My boyfriend's pizza which in his words was presented horribly, tasteless/flavourless, smothered in cheese, not filling at all and expensive, left a very bitter taste in our mouths. We had contemplated having dessert but we both decided that we didn't want to spend another 30 minutes waiting for dessert so we decided to go to McDonalds instead. Me and my boyfriend were highly dissatisfied with the service (and being a waitress myself i deal with much busier shifts every single day and my customers are never left waiting that long!) And we have decided that we will probably not go there for food again.

We visit this pub twice a year during our band contest and usually we are satisfied customers. However, this time was different. Firstly I asked for water twice and then gave up and went straight to the bar for it. Then there had been a mix up with my friend's meal which meant she had to wait even longer while we ate, and even when it did come the scampi was very well done with hardly any scampi inside. Disappointed to say the least.

We went over to the Dragon fly last night. We were told to say close to the door it was freezing. My partner had to wear his coat, I had my coat over my legs. Our food took over an hour and a quarter to arrive no apology from the waitress. Our order consisted of two steak and chips and a pizza. They must have gone to kill the cow and travelled to Italy for the pizza. We eventually moved tables because sitting in artic conditions when your waiting for your food to arrive is not much fun.Once the food eventually arrived there was no apology from the waitress, the steak was well done not medium as requested, but the pizza was really nice. We did not send the steak back because the thought of sitting in artic conditions for over an hour again was to much to bear and we were STARVING.The waitress was friendly when she fetched the bill and was chatting, no doubt waiting for a tip. Not once did she apologise for the wait on the food.I'd rather pay extra for a meal than go through that again.

The front part of the pub was deemed drinks only. They had proper full size tables that they could use for food service but had arbitrarily deemed it to be drinks only. Food was only served right at the back of the pub or to the far right hand side. This was not good when 3 of the party were disabled and unable to walk far. In addition it meant lots of people were crammed into 2 cramped areas and a third to a half of the pub was empty. Poor use of space and management was not flexible with the seating given the customer's disability. They have a specials board on the wall which gives a change to the standard menu. We asked if they had a list of the specials on a piece of paper to make it easier for the disabled amongst us as a lot of the tables had no view of the specials board once seated. We were pleased and surprised to get a yes and were given a list of specials. However, we then realised that although they had gone to the effort to type up a list and attach to a clip board, they could only be bothered to put about half of the specials on it.Only 2 beers on tap which were hobgoblin and pedigree. Little choice in bottled beer. When trying to order non alcoholic drinks, there were few choices and a couple of the items listed on the drinks menu were not available.Food took ages to arrive and when the starters did arrive, one of them was stone cold. When the mains arrived 3 were good sized portions but the gnocchi special which cost £12.95 was tiny in size and came with 2 very small pieces of garlic toast. In addition the burger that arrived was different to the one we ordered. The waitress asked us if we wanted any condiments and we asked for mustard. The mustard never arrived. When we complained, we were faced with a sullen lady who snootily asked if we had asked for mustard in the first place. She eventually brought us some mustard but was huffy and snooty the whole time. Really poor customer service the entire time we were there and the management didn't care when we tried to complain. Very disappointed in what as supposed to be a big family treat after recent serious family illness. Would really not recommend this restaurant.

I ordered a rare steak - it came medium to well done. My husband ordered medium to well done - his was dry. I was very tired and could not be bothered sending it back (I know, my own fault!). I ate most of it but it was definitely NOT the good. Chips and peas were OK but the tomato was cold (cooked). Also the onion rings were soggy - not good. Guy at table near us sent his meal back to the kitchen. Two pluses: the wine Shiraz was excellent and the beer was very well kept. Even though they had an off of 2 for 1 and the cheaper main was free, this did not make up for what was for us a bad meal at the end of a very long drive (6 hours) and working all day.

To be honest if i could i wouldnt even give it a rating as the food was not appetising. The wrong burger arrived and when we mention it to the waitress she seemed as though she didn't want to be there. It was very quickly corrected (too quick for burger to be re-cooked etc). When arrived was very dry and unedible. My food had a blue bit of plastic in the salad. Again spoke to waitress who appeared as though she didn't want to be there. The manager gave us his apologies and a discount but we will not be going back there.

Me and my partner came here on Wednesday for a meal, as my partners food came out his chips were cold and they give him peas when he clearly asked for salad. Mine also came out I had to send mine back because it's was cold. I ordered chicken, chorizo and seafood paella I had half of a cut single bite of chorizo in my paella! When I told the waitress about the chorizo she turned around and told me 'its how it comes in the packet' when it clearly states on the specials bored that it's 'HOME MADE' my partners 10oz steak was more of a 6oz, service was absolutely terrible with no one seeming to care, shame really.. waited also another 40 minutes for our plates to be cleared from the table, there was plates on the table which hadn't even been cleared on three tables around us that were there before we got into the restaurant 'if you could call it that'.. disgraceful. I wouldn't even let my dog eat here, let alone my family. this establishment could have a good reputation, shame..

My experience of these chains is not usually that good but this one really did surprise us. We popped in on the off chance on Sunday to get lunch. It was busy and we were advised that we may have up to half hour wait for a table. Ten minutes later we were seated and order taken. We had a roast lunch. For what it was and what we paid we were happy with our meal. The only sight criticism is that the beef was a little tough. A bit of a wait for dessert which was really overpriced and was essentially a bit of cake slapped on a plate. Over four quid for a cold slab of brownie - not good. They could have warmed it a bit and then maybe it would not have had the consistency of a house brick but it tasted fine. The waitress was pleasant.

The person who was looking after our table had no interest in us or any one else. When we finally got our food it looked as if my 6 year old nephew had plated it up while practicing on his skateboard. This is only a cheep an cheerful place so I was not expecting great things but I was still paying cold hard cash for a meal and in the end all we got was the cold hard shoulder.I would not recommend going.Dan

We saw this had three stars and mixed reviews but not fancying other options nearby we decided to try it for ourselves. It deserved the three stars. Plenty of choice and menu was good. We were warned of a 45 min wait for food on arrival which we felt was polite even though it only took 30 mins in reality. On arrival food was only warm, waitress was friendly and offered to get us fresh which we opted to decline. Food tasted ok, nothing that special. All this said, it was 2 for 1, and we paid less than £30 for meals and drinks, so it kinda 'is what it is'.

I cane here last saturday as wanted to try somewhere new and i was extremely disappinted !! Service was ok but tgat was as good as it got. I ordered burger and chips. The burger roll was stale and dry the bacon in the burger was full of fat and the chips tasted like cheap frozen chips considering the meal was 11.99 i thought i was very overpriced and the quality and presentation was dreadful.also my coleslaw was stale and looked like it had been in the fridge for days the salad in the slaw was starting to discolour and the mayonaise was like water. My partner had fish and chips with mushy peas the fish was bland and greasy and the chips again were hidious !! The mushy peas had no flavour at all.i would never use this place again and would recomend that others use the other restaurants near by instead.

Second time I have been in the last two months, my curry I had the first time was luke warm and bland. The second time, I had the vegetarian burger and it was very hard. The chips were scabby and the plate was dirty so was put off eating anymore. It also took half an hour for the bill at the end even though it was very quiet at the time! I appreciate the 2 for 1 deal your restaurant offer and don't expect high range quality. However, it should be better for what it is.

We had a two for one meal that was very well cooked and presented - though the rocket was a bit limp as it lay on the steak!! Staff were attentive and friendly but running ragged - while what I presume was the manager spent a long time talking to an ex employee - we were sitting next to them and over heard the conversations. However we will be eating there again because of the quality of the meal and the value for money.

This restaurant is a Two 4 One type restaurant. The meals are not cheap and you could get two meals for the price they charge elsewhere.I ordered the steak, medium, when it arrived the steak was grey and it was really well done and certainly not medium. The food was very cold. They did offer to change it but I was afraid of doing that due to all the bad publicity that happens when a customer returns food. It was totally inedible and I left with just eating two cold chips and a small piece of steak. We have eaten there a few times and I made a similar complaint once previously, this time it was really awful. They took £5 off our meals but I would have rather eaten.

I am on a low carb diet and as usual unless you have a salad everything comes with potatoes. When I ordered gammon I asked if I could have mushrooms instead of potatoes, but was told it was either potatoes or salad. We were staying at the Travelodge in Merthyr recently and the Dragonfly was right next door.We wandered in there and had a few beers (good choice) and decided to stay and eat.Choice was pretty good with a traditional pub menu AND a pizza menu.Everything seemed to be buy-one-get-one-free so we ended up feeding seven hungry adults for not much. The food was tasty, but it's never going to win a Michelin star, but then it is superb value. Two pizzas and two pints could be had for around £15 for instance. The rack of ribs looked great. As for starters I plumped for Haloumi and Humous. It wasn't great and looked a bit grim. Some mates opted for Stilton stuffed dougballs - portions were huge were really tasty. So maybe sneak a peak at what others are eating before ordering.Would happily return. Staff were very friendly.

We visited on Friday afternoon (17th June) at 2.30pm, intending to enjoy lunch. Despite the premises being very quiet it took a good 5 minutes waiting to be served drinks at the empty bar, despite various members of the team flitting in and out of the adjoining kitchen. A chap in a grey shirt and diamond earring (I suspect a supervisor) saw me at the bar a good few minutes before he stopped chatting with staff to find the time to serve me. We observed several other couples in a similarly lengthy wait for someone to tend the bar (one couple left the premises frustrated & thirsty after giving up). Some tables - not marked as such - were apparently "reserved" for a group - and those who sat at them were unceremoniously told to vacate and find somewhere else to sit. Perhaps "reserved" signs would have been useful. We just had one drink before leaving. We then popped over to the adjacent Frankie & Benny's and had an excellent lunch. Zero marks for customer service at the Dragonfly.

This is a great place to order food when there are multiples of two people dining, otherwise the prices are high for single eaters. The menu has a broad range to choose from as well as a specials board. It has a fairly large seating capacity and the staff were very friendly and prompt to serve your meals. There is seating both inside and out so that the better weather can be enjoyed - albeit in a haze of the smokers fumes!

I visited this very nice pub with an associate on Thursday, 26th May 2016 around 1600 hours. We sat at the far end on the building, near the window with a nice view of the outside seating area. After much deliberation over the wide choice of menu and 'Two For One' choices, we both settled for our own individual preferences. I had initially had the very determined intention of ordering the 16oz rib eye steak but unfortunately this no longer appeared to be on the 2 4 1 menu board, so with much trepidation I settled for the Trio of Lamb Chops with veg and baby potatoes. In total candour, I state in this review with 'trepidation' because my experience of eating food in Marston's pubs has long been historically disappointing. In my home town of Kingston upon Hull there are three Marston's pubs. The Gold Crest, Victoria Dock Village and The Red Sails situated in Beacon Way - and I will also include Warton Arms in Woodmansey. In fairness, all of these above pubs offer a very pleasant family environment with a really good selection of quality alcohol and soft drinks. On a score of 1 to 10 for a very pleasant family environment and drinks I would happily score 9.However, apart from the excellent carvery in the Red Sails, my edible experience of the rest of their pub food has been most dismal and frankly appalling. I usually avoid the eat option unless it's a packet of crisps or peanuts. The Sunday Roast in the Gold Crest and Warton Arms is obviously microwaved, the pork and beef is clearly from frozen and NOT off a joint and this food is generally Luke warm with very little gravy. But if you ask, the staff will happily deliver another small gravy boat of the same gauge and temp. Unfortunately these said, two above pubs do not offer a carvery. The red sails non carvery food is in my view and my family's, just as poor.I now found myself in The Dragon Fly in Merthyr Tydfil because I was staying in the Travel Lodge next door. With very little faith and a serious lack of optimism, I reluctantly ordered the Trio of Lamb Chops. When my trio of Lamb Chops arrived, as sort of expected, it was indeed most shocking. The chops were burnt and the meat was crispy shrivelled. There was little veg and the meal was barely warm and indeed the offer of low temperature gravy was contained in a vessel about the size of an egg cup. I knew what I was going to get, so therefore I hadn't really been labouring any real misapprehension. Like a good boy, I consumed my meal with a very serious lack of intent to complain. I had just driven several hours, from Gillingham in Kent to South Wales and this was my first proper non fast food meal of the day but armed with my realistic expectation of poor quality and indeed additional hunger - prompted me to just simply get on with it. And besides, the Hobgoblin real ale was most delicious. However, this mindset was rudely interrupted when my associates meal arrived. It was something like a scene from. 'Laurel & Hardy!' His fish and chips with mushy peas appeared most appetising and delicious. His fish looked like it had once upon a time before its unexpected encounter with Trawler cryogenics, shared the same DNA as Jaws.I had initially warned my young associate that the any fish & chips he ordered his palate would be far distant and well and truly recognisably removed from a popular species such as Haddock & Cod. But unfazed by my personal pub food advice, my very young colleague picked up his knife and fork and with much excited ado set about sticking it right into the heart and centre of the highly blown up, dark brown batter. His facial expression before cutlery insertion appeared to be in a rather delightful and joyful mode as he stuck it into what appeared to be a little baby jaws. But poor old jaws let out a mighty explosive gush of what I can only describe as 'hot oily air' and immediately deflated into a most hysterical simulation of what I can only describe as an instantaneous flat tyre. Despite my alleged level of middle aged maturity or what I'm supposed to have for a man of my apparent age; I just simply could not hold back the howls of very audible laughter, which to my shock, was uncontrollable. I apologise for the cliche, but sides were achingThis was a defining moment in my life.I now understood Stan Laurel when, to Ollie's clear annoyance, would burst into random fits of boisterous giggles. This, in my view, was a comedy moment Hal Roach would have been most proud to have included in one of his famous film studio sketches. Once the fleeting moment of disastrous repast entertainment had truly expired, the 'revenge of jaws' was now on the customer agenda of accountability. My associate who doesn't usually complain about anything, seemed to have metamorphosed into the Watchdog Champion, Anne Robinson. The only exception being, is due to my strict heterosexuality, Anne Robinson is slightly more attractive. The staff who appeared to be hardened veterans of customer complaints simply assured us that there was no point of complaining as any other meals offered would be exactly of the same quality and standard. Not particularly surprised, and with no refund forthcoming from the young 'scratching his head' Manager and his most 'I prefer running a Whelk stall matter of fact attitude', we just quietly departed from the building and immediately went to McDonalds for a double cheeseburger.
