Had a takeaway last night (9th June), it was horrible. Spring Rolls - literally full of oil. They just exploded covering everything in oil. King prawn Peking style - tasted like malt vinegar and the prawns were just like mush. Special Chow Mein - cheap stringy noodles (like a pot noodle but worse), small amount of meat (and that was tasteless), runny sauce that was over salted. Fried rice - a soggy mess that came out of the tray in one lump Chips - just awful. All this and it was over £30! I would not recommend this takeaway and I will never go there again. I wish there was a no star option.

I’m not sure whether this place has been taken over but this was honestly one of the best Chinese takeaways we have ever had (and we’ve had a lot 😂). We have ordered from here in the past and it wasn’t anything to write home about but recently, wow! Tried to order tonight and they’ve had to close the online shop as it’s too busy. The people of Ripon must be on to it now. Will pre book next weekend.

For a simple order which they had messed up several times cost £60 pounds. They had forgotten half my order and then when I rung them and told them what I was missing they said it would be another 30 minutes wait so I waited 1 hour for half the food and another 30 minutes for the other half they messed up with. By the time the food got delivered to my house the first half was cold. I had finally prepared my food and sat to eat by this point the food was disgusting

The food we bought for a take away last night was the worse Chinese food I have ever tasted in my 40 years. I couldn’t distinguish between bone and meat on the salt and pepper spare ribs, the Salt and pepper chicken wasn’t too bad but there was so little of it it made no impact and the Singapore Chow mein was completely bland and akin to eating damp hay with rubber prawns. I would have given this a 0 rating if possible. Not only will I never go back there again, but I think it has put me off Chinese food completely.

I’ve used this Chinese for around 8 years and the last 3 times we’ve been has been shocking. Unfortunately we will not be going again the food is most definitely not what it used to be.

We were greeted when we arrived by a nice Chinese gentleman and shown to our table we ordered quite quickly, we ordered combination starter for 6 people, it appeared quickly a beautifully presented, it was delicious. The main courses were the same piping hot a very very tasty, we did not have any sweets as we were all full with the main course portions. There's a good range of dishes on the menu for this takeaway, so there should be something to suit everyone. Our particular favourites are kung po chicken (very intense), sweet and sour (milder, but stull tangy) and the luscious lemon chicken... though why, or why, oh why, must they cover crisp battered chicken in sauce? Please serve the sauce separately! The only mild complaint is that the chicken tastes like it has been pre-cooked and quickly reheated. Not everyone will agree, but I'd be happy waiting a little longer for fresh.

NOTE: I have been eating at this restaurant and takeaway since the year 2000 but I have noticed (I don't get takeaways that frequently) in recent years that its restaurant dining element closed and now it is solely a take-away established. Previous to this, I never noticed any difference to the taste or quality of the dishes when had in the takeaway or restaurant version so it's only the hospitality element lost.As said above, I'm not a regularly takeaway eater, however, this and its 'sibling' next door shop (sadly since closed) have been the only Chinese eateries I have tried in Ripon and I have to say, the food is tasty and of high quality. I don't have much other experience to compare it to, but I would certainly say you will not be disappointed. The menu comprises some English and American dishes, Chinese starters and a selection of the usual styles of Chinese cooking (i.e. OK sauce, Tao Peng, Hot 'n' Spicy sauce, Peking duck) in duck, chicken, beef, vegetable, pork and prawn versions for most of the dishes. Takeaway service is prompt and friendly.

We were greeted with a smile and given menus to look at. We picked the set meal for 4 but amended the king prawn dish to Kung Po Char Su. It was not expensive either. We were not disappointed. The whole meal exceeded our expectations. We only had to wait for 15 mins for it to be cooked. We nipped to Weatherspoons for a quick drink. Every dish was divine. I would give this restaurant two stars for the size of its portions and friendly staff, but really this was one of the worst Chinese meals I've eaten in a long time. We stayed in Leyburn recently and walked across the market square to eat upstairs in The Dragon Inn. The staff were friendly and attentive. The menu was comprehensive and wide ranging. We ordered a mixture of both familiar and new dishes between us and were not disappointed as even the former were served slightly differently ..... but in a good way.It all came in at about £17 ph including drinks and we were very happy with that and thought it good value for money. So what if the place is a little sad around the edges. Have the critics ever eaten in a genuine Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong, Manchester, Beijing, Singapore or central London? It's the food and spirit that matters and we were very pleased with the whole 'Chinese in Leyburn' experience and happily recommend The Dragon Inn if/when visiting.

4 of us ate, we had a mixed platter for 3, 4 mains, 3 puddings and one drink each - probably around £70 I would think, so not unreasonably priced. The starter was good - lovely satay chicken (though it would have been nice had the sticks been visible from the outside so I didn't bite in to one!) - wasn't sure on the crispy wonton myself though.Main courses - I thought the sauces were watery myself, and why they always insist on putting mushrooms in things I'll never know! The fish eaters had prawns in satay sauce and said it was very warm - yet there was no mention of this on the menu, and the satay in the starter was mild and peanutty. Also thought the duck was overcooked, but the chicken and beef was delicious and tender.Puddings were nice (banana fritters), but the Black Sheep beer was flat and not looked after very well!Probably wouldn't choose here again if I was honest.

We were welcomed and made to feel comfortable, though have to add that no-one offered to take our coats or umbrellas.I felt as though the staff were a little nervous, perhaps they had read the reports! But, we made an effort to be pleasant and build a relationship, it worked. I did at one stage complain about my duck dish, but an intelligent young man was very patient with me and explained what the dish comprised of. He was absolutely great about the whole thing, he realised that I hadn't understood the dish, which was a special, and I ended up profusely apologising for getting it all wrong, which I had.We did have to ask for candle heated hot plates to keep some of our dishes warm, but they immediately obliged.I found the staff warmed to us and us to them making it an enjoyable evening. Yes, our meal was expensive, but that was our choice, and we did enjoy it.

I had one of the set meals for two with a friend and it was very nice. The waiting staff were also very friendly and the atmosphere was very pleasant and peaceful. If I lived locally I would certainly visit regularly!

Two of us called in for an impromptu supper after a glass of wine in the area. The staff were attentive and polite. There was an extensive menu upon which the staff were only too happy to offer advice. I ate some seaweed and a vegetable satay with boiled rice which was delicious. My friend had a mixed curry which they commented was delicious too.A pleasant evening generally.

Visited here on a trip to Ripon. Had a look at the reviews first and wasn't too sure but we don't eat anything fancy so thought "what could go wrong"... Bad move, paper tablecloths, paper menu stuffed into plastic wallets, only cutlery on the table were two forks...They only appeared to do half a duck and I asked them about a quarter and was quickly told no, half (£17) or nothing. I then asked if they could do salt and chilli prawns as a starter (they had salt/chilli chicken and ribs only) and they sad they could. OH had the ribs option - these were deep fried (?) and not very tasty at all and mr prawns were just deep fried with no flavour and some onions plonked on the top. Main course - I went for chicken chow mien- maybe its how they serve this dish further north but I really wasn't expecting noodles & loads of veg to be swimming in gravy. Couldn't each much of it. OH wasn't keen on his beef in chilli sauce either ( and he'd sked for boiled rice and got fried) but he did eat most of it.When the bill came (£37) I noticed they had charged me £8.50 for my prawn starter. Not the end of the world but had they advised me of the price I wouldn't have bothered.Didn't enjoy my visit here and for the second time only in my life I didn't leave a tip. Avoid.

Visited on a Saturday night. Busy both in the restaurant and for take aways which is always a good sign. Good value for money alcoholic drinks were all less than £3 (bottles not draft) and main courses tended to start around £7. We went for the set meal for two at £23, which consisted of prawn crackers, mixed starters, sweet and sour chicken, beef and chilli black bean and egg fried rice. Not the finest Chinese cuisine ever tasted but for the money was very good. Would go back again. Parking was available in the main square free of charge.

Ordered the set meal for two £30. Soup was good but everything after that wasn't! Next to come should have been the Peking Spare Ribs but they forgot to bring them and asked if we could just have them with our mains which meant the mains were ready so they would just be warned up if we didn't. When the spare ribs arrived they tasted like fizzy cola bottles and must have been cooked in coke. I know there is a recipe for these but please trust me when I say they were the worst tasting ribs I've ever had. The other mains were just ok but seemed like they were cooked using too much cornflour or something that made the sauces look like jelly and taste like well, nothing really. I don't like leaving bad reviews but this place needs to shape up as there are a lot of other restaurants in Ripon for customers to choose. We will not be back thats for sure.

As a birthday treat for my wife I took her out to the Dragon Inn, as we knew from our previous visit that the food was very tasty and good. This time it was even better, they must have changed the chef. We had a starter for 2, which we really enjoyed. Main meal was absolutely outstanding (Pork & Prawn), not too fat but nice and spicy (very rare in this region) The service was very good and friendly. Wife even got a birthday candle on a sweet. We have been in different Restaurants and Pubs in this area and I must say this is the Restaurant I can (and will) visit again and again!

Came for a meal with a couple of friends. Service was good and food was okay as well, but the restaurant was far too hot. It was a very warm evening (around 28 celsius) but the air conditioning was off. It didn't help when something was burnt and the restaurant filled with smoke! A couple of small quirks - no knives with starters and a choice of knife and fork or chopsticks, not both. Would I return though? Maybe.

We went back with our son and all three of us were thoroughly disappointed. I wondered if there had been a change of ownership as the food quality was very poor and the dishes not prepared to the high standard of previous visits. We won't bother trying again.

Went here Friday evening. 2 of us, 2 starters and 2 mains, plus 4 soft drinks= £36 which was fine. Starters of wings and ribs were ok, not great but ok. Then the comedy began: duck with a prawn stuffing... do not order it! Pale brown fatty meat and what looked like a processed pink blob of meatloaf. Topped off with what looked like gelatine dumped on top of it. Or at my dining partner put it 'could have been thrown up by the cat.' It proceeded to drop on table a splodge at a time. Other dish was chilli crispy beef, which was chewy and hard and almost cold. So bad we both contemplated just eating the fried rice... which was co-icidently quite good! Gave the dish s try just in case, tasted awful. Left almost all of it, decided not worth complaining and waitress rushed away with it. We will never go back. Hasty trip to Sainsburys to buy mints to get rid of the awful taste. Never again!

We have been to dragon inn this weekend for the meal. We sat near the window and watched snowing outside. Listening to the soft Chinese music is a bliss. The service was good, staff are all friendly. The food is excellent, the plates are not posh though. Eating in dragon inn looks like you eating in your friends house. We think it is comfy and every enjoyable. We will visit again.

As a Ripon resident, I have eaten At all of the Chinese restaurants here and had their takeaways. Never been a fan of the Dragon's food, but our friends insisted on going as the decor is better than my favourite. Our party was 7 people. Had Half crispy duck to share as a starter. One meal each, two fried rice to share, two noodle and two drinks each. £133. That's £20 a head nearly. If the food was good, I wouldn't complain. portions at small, seems to be more gravy and veg than meat, sweet an sour sauce, I am sure would light up in the dark. Plenty of staff kicking around all busy on a Sat night, but I don't think one had a smile on their face, infect all looked grumpy. I didn't feel as if they appreciated our business, just happy, or un happy to throw food on table and take the money. There location dead in centre of town and decor is the only thing going for it. If the price reflected the meal, I would have marked higher. This review is for a Saturday night. If you eat at lunch time on Thursday and Friday, it's about £5 for a three course meal with tea or coffee. Now that great value and I would recommend. May have caught them on a bad night, but, come on, smile and show some gratitude.....oh, wife said wine was disgusting.

My husband and I ate at the Dragon Inn Restaurant, Ripon this week and had a reasonable but unremarkable meal. The salt and pepper ribs lacked flavour and when we asked for sweet chilli sauce the sauce we were given lacked flavour too. Our main course was edible but also low on flavour. The bill £27 for 2 with 2 Chinese beers and a coke was reasonable and the service was prompt and unobtrusive. The atmosphere was good and the staff polite. The chef is letting everyone else down which is a shame because it has always been much better in the past.

Booked for a party of 9 for a 25th birthday, arrived at the restaurant to have to battle through a mass of customers waiting for take away in the doorway.. and others were moved from our reserved table as we sat down. Staff too busy dealing with take out orders to be attentive to our needs in the restaurant. Drinks orders were finally taken some 15mins after seating. 2 bottles of wine 1 white 1 rose several soft drinks. Soft drinks poured from mainstream brand bottles behind the counter the sort you buy from your local supermarket 4 for £5.00 and charged at £1.50 a half pint glass. wine reasonably priced, house white at £10.50/bottle and a french rose at £12.50 bottle, however wine was served to the table without coolers granted the waiter did offer a taste on the rose before leaving the bottle. I had to ask 3 times for a wine cooler for the rose bottle and twice more on the second bottle which took an eternity to arrive. Meals: Starters mains no deserts, starters mixed between soups and ribs.. first soup arrived at the table followed some 5 minutes (i exaggerate not to the point it was complained about directly to the so called manager who spent the whole night behind the bar barking at staff and leisurely chatting to the customers) later by the second soup, some 5 minutes after that the ribs arrived. starters were swiftly cleared and we had a 35 min wait for mains which came out in the very drib drab way as before, 2 portions of chips were forgotten, 1 fried rice portion was missing, a curry was served but the rice ordered with it was nowhere to be found and had to be asked for.. Staff obviously over run with work, the restaurant had another two parties around our size and 5 or 6 tables of between 2 and 6 persons. at the end of the meal we were offered deserts and a complimentary ice cream with a candle was brought out to the birthday girl. Despite prior complaint the bill was brought to the table without any form of discount and i was met with a shy manager when it was complained about the bill total was £155.50 and the best they would do for the total shambles of service was knock off £10.00 now im not one to complain as a rule but i cannot abide substandard service when the prices are as high as they are here, begrudgingly we accepted this good will paid the bill and got out.. needless to say i will not return.. Dragon Inn its about time you became the Dragon Take out and concentrated on doing that properly as well as there was several people i noticed bring their take out orders back..
