Dragon Inn in Purbeck

Wide menu and very cheap. The food was good, but this restaurant is badly let down by the dirty toilet and a general worrying lack of cleanliness.

We visited this place on a Monday evening around 9pm, and it was, without doubt, one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. From the moment we stepped inside, we were met with a dark, dingy, and grubby interior that was clearly in desperate need of refurbishment. The atmosphere was completely lifeless – not a single other diner in sight at dinner time, which in hindsight should have been a red flag. Unfortunately, the food was just as poor as the surroundings. The chicken chow mein, which my daughter ordered, was served with cold chicken that immediately raised concerns. I tasted it myself and instantly felt something was off. Within minutes, I kid you not, those fears were confirmed – we had to rush back to our hotel, where my daughter spent the entire night violently ill with food poisoning. Absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable. This place clearly has no regard for hygiene or basic food safety. It’s shocking that they’re still in operation. For your health and sanity, steer well clear.

We had ordered a takeaway from here, efficient service and collection. Food was hood, fresh, tasty and packaged well. And open on a Monday! Would recommend

Cold - we had to ask for heater. Had to ask for drinks. No-one asked if the meal was OK or did service at all apart from taking order, serving order. No asking if we wanted anything else. Not offered glasses for the bottled beers! Actually did not feel valued. A pity. Wish we had ordered it as a takeaway now. The food was good. Not amazing, but tasty.

We just had a great takeaway delivered from here. The food was lovely, tasty and piping hot. We would have given 5 stars but, unfortunately, our request for no onions/veg was not followed through (lucky it was a preference and not an intolerance). Despite this, we would visit again as the food was delicious😊 Also, interestingly the Beef in Black bean had fresh chilli in it (just in case anyone else is not expecting this).

Food is greasy am still sat with plate in front of me no one checked to see if food OK... listening to to staff members eat and belch ahead of me put me off a plate of food o was struggling with anyway . Phone left on loud speaker all in a foreign language very loud . Not happy at all won't be back .

Went in sat down, couple already there gave us the impression it was, at best, ok! They wanted cash - so dodgy practice! We left yo find a cash point - did not return.

it comes out raw and tastes of fish! when mentioned to staff they didn’t care. wouldn’t waste your money on this jank food

3 of us all ordered at the same time. Mine came out minus the rice which came out 10 mins later. Then 2nd meal came out, 3rd meal came out after two of us had finished ours, wouldn't have minded but wasn't even busy.

We had a takeaway delivered . The portions were big and were very nice . We used the app to order and delivery came very quickly to a pretty awkward location. Much better than what we have had in the past in Swanage

Stuck for something to eat on a Saturday night in between Swanage Blues events, came across this place which were takeaway only at the time if day and ordered chicken and prawn chow meins to eat on the seafront !! I would definitely order from them again.

Got a delivery from here. Really great food, fast delivery, food still hot when it arrived. Couldn't fault and would happily eat again!

Don’t order salt and pepper chips. We had them delivered and they were soggy and wet. We phoned to ask to get some more delivered and the lady blamed it on the packaging. Got some more redelivered in other packaging and they were really wet still, like water was poured over. The rest was okay, but nothing special. Thought we’d give this Chinese a go but will definitely choose wok chef in the future.

Perfect sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style which was crispy and saucy. Egg fried rice was good, as was the BBQ speare ribs which had a nice amount of meat on them and were in decent amount of delicious BBQ sauce. The staff were nice however the restaurant was a bit dated and not very presentable but, importantly, was clean. I have had deliveries which can take time but can also be very quick but either way is worth the time. Definitely recommend.

Enjoyed a lovely takeaway. Good quality tasty food and generous portions. The restaurant area lacks atmosphere but this could be improved with perhaps plants or some form of greenery.

Had to quickly get my family dinner so decided to takeaway from here. The staff are friendly and the food was good but when I walked inside the place just seemed very unhygienic and was disgusted to find that there was poo smeared all across the walls of the bathroom. Grabbed the food and left, the food was good.

Absolutely chaotic! There was only 1 other group inside and only 3 of us and we ordered 4 dishes between us, Waitress got food and drink order wrong then we heard her arguing with man that ‘they didn’t order that’ well needless to say we did but seeing as we spent the time listening to the complete chaos going on around us I’m not surprised. They got delivery and collection orders wrong, order sent to wrong house so they collected and gave to waiting customer!! It’s cash only but you only know that when you pay as sign on till but sitting in window you don’t see, we didn’t know beforehand, they should put sign on door or mention she seating. Won’t be hurrying back!

You were incredibly disrespectful and rude to a member of my group ordering a takeaway. Commenting on her weight. You should be incredibly disgusted in yourselves.

Food was gorgeous. Lots of it a d all fresh and hot. Rang to order for delivery, the Delivery lady was lovely, very friendly and delivery was quick only wated about 30minutes. Would definitely recommend this for takeaway, best I've ever had

The cook had apparently been there for two weeks……once people try his cooking I think they’ll be packed-out! Superb quality and amount; all for a very reasonable price. If I lived in Swanage it would be my regular.

Couldn't fault this takeaway. A couple of items weren't available on our online order and a staff member phoned us straight away about this and was most apologetic. We ordered a couple of other items instead and put them through online. My family were particularly impressed with the barbecue pork fried rice and the egg fried rice which was described as the best they had ever had. The mini spring rolls were lovely and the vegetables in the vegetarian dishes had been cooked to perfection - none of your soggy mush here. Delivery arrived in good time by a lovely lady.

Needs a good clean and decor definitely needs updating. Table was wobbly and pretty dusty. Don’t go in the toilets!! Wine tasted like vinegar, beer out of bottle so no problem there. Decided we didn’t want to stay for a full on meal so just got some starters to nibble at. Quarter duck, bit fatty! Salt and Chilli ribs, not bad, probably the best part. Prawn toast, full of oil and possibly think reheated but could t be sure. Salt and chilli calamari, chewy. Some other ribs (like a bbq I think). Meat fell off the bone which is good but sausage wasn’t nice. Staff nice and friendly but unfortunately food was awful and the place unclean.

After noticing a sign asking for cash only, we asked to order and know the price before eating, just to make sure that we had enough cash. We ordered 2 chicken fried rice with 1 sweet and sour sauce and 2 tins of 7up. We...

We weren’t sure what we were going to get, the decor is a little tired but the food was a really pleasant surprise. Between 5 of us, we shared 6 or 7 dishes and they were all really delicious - among the best I’ve tasted....

I understand the restaurant is under new management. We ordered a takeaway last night. Food was very good, tasty well presented and delicious. The restaurant staff were very friendly and professional. Excellent experience. We holiday in Swanage regularly so we will be back

What an improvement on the old place! (Lai Ho). They have tables to eat in but we opted for a takeaway. The prices might be marginally high but not unduly so. The food was excellent and the portions generous, especially rice and noodles. We ordered...

Popped in for a takeaway and what we had was hot, and very tasty but not cheap. King prawn chow Mein Mushroom chow Mein Curry sauce Chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce Chips and prawn crackers was £30 Cash only.

The Dragon Inn is under new management from Sept 22. Reading reviews for the previous owners did not inspire confidence but both our takeaways in the second week of October were simply excellent. I hope customers will give the new owners a fair chance.
