Unfortunately every single table had been used and the staff are very slack and miserable looking straight out of the windows, management should be diligent and make sure the tables are wiped down for hygiene reasons. On this occasion I am very disappointed with the service. Although the fish and chips are over priced they are tasty. Based on this venue I could not recommend at all simply because they can't keep the place clean and tidy. This is a Saturday 12pm so would be extremely busy with the lovely weather also.

This is a perfectly decent fish and chip cafe on the front at Seaburn. The chips were good, the service ok, i didnt get my requested salt and vinegar-a minor point, and prices are about average for this sort of place. It's clean and there's nothing wrong with the place,it s just not quite top drawer.

We visited Seaburn recently for the first time in decades and were pleasantly surprised by the range of restaurants and cafes available. Being unfamiliar with the area, we chose Downey's for lunch more or less at random and were really pleased with our choice. The staff were friendly and welcoming while the fish and chips were excellent. On a slightly negative note (hence our score of 4), we were not entirely convinced their Covid precautions were particularly effective; however, as the weather was very nice, we were able to sit outside where we felt the level of risk was acceptable.

Some chain restaurants get a good reputation, some for us, ie fast food giants are just rubbish. So nice to see Downeys have opened a fish and chip restaurant, in the Stack buildings which is now the closest one of their chain to our home. Due to covid, the food was made to order and takeaway only so the wait was understandable. Service as polite as the other restaurants and fish, cod bites and Smokey sausage were lovely!

Does anyone know if the Riverview brasserie restaurant over at the Stadium of light in Sunderland is still open or not. Because me and my dad are about to go there for a Father's Day lunch out on the 18th June and every time me and my dad kept on phoning them it just ends up with nobody answering the phone. So could someone kindly send me a reply message back and let me know to see if the Riverview brasserie restaurant at the stadium of light in Sunderland to see if it's open or not.

I eat here often as i work locally. I find the choice of food to be varied and look forward to the welcoming smile of the Owners/Staff. I believe this is the best 'Sandwich Shop' in Sunderland and would highly recommend.

Food was good but overpriced. Most upsetting was the time it took for the kitchen to serve us. Waitress was helpful & pleasant but caught in the middle. Either systems poor or need more kitchen staff....waited nearly an hour. Shame because it's a nice place but bit overpriced.

I thought school dinners were bad, but this place tops it with being the worse place I have eaten in. We visited with family for Sunday lunch big mistake. We were sitting not far from the microwave which we heard pinging every few minutes then food was served, food must be plated up and reheated, the veg was practically raw, as for the roasties(potatoes) well these were rock hard u could do some serious damage with these. There is no restaurant or carvery that I have eaten in can do a roastie as good as home, a fresh cooked home roast is so much better and Cheaper I definitely won’t be going back.
