very deceptive looking on the outside. You have to literally go down the stairs to enter, but once you walk in, the atmosphere is so great. The place is very warm and welcoming and very comfortable. The food, all plant based is so amazing, so tasty, so moreish. l had the special which was the vegan fish n chips. It was so nice. I was so glad I chose this and then had apple crumble for dessert. They have a nice variety of drinks and cocktails/mocktails too which wont disappoint Highly recommend this place if youre in Liverpool Im looking forward to returning. Thank you Down The Hatch

Very unique restaurant with his own charme. Heaven for vegans and vegetarians. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is amazing. I was impressed how delicious it tasted. For all vegans in Liverpool definitely a "must have to try"

I'll start by how surprised I was at my enjoyment of all the food on hand. I am by no means vegetarian as anyone reading my reviews giggle at. Anyway.went on a double date night with a vegetarian couple at their recommendation. Yes, I was sceptical to say the least. Call me converted. I had some of all our dishes and the flavours were bang on. They aren't pretending to be something carnivorous would eat. No they are on a mission to make amazing food that has its own identity. That it's vegetarian or vegan just happens coincidentally. They also have an eclectic selection of cocktails. .... Always a plus in my world.... But I digress. The prices across the board straddle both a quick bite... And something special. There is something there for all It's not the easiest place to find since it is in a basement but it's a jewel for sure.

Subpar overall. We ordered 2 beers, 2 starters and 2 mains. Starters took 20 minutes and the mains arrived after approximately 45 minutes after the starters after they'd forgotten them. When they finally arrived they were lukewarm, greasy and absolutely tasteless. I'd love to say we enjoyed it but we definitely wouldn't be back. Thankfully we were offered 50% off the bill after they took nearly full plates back, it's such a shame because the reviews were so good and as a vegan I was so excited to try it!

I came last night and the service was brilliant but the food was awful. I was supposed to have the salt and pepper tofu dish. It was horrible, the noodles were greasey, there were no vegetables other than one tiny green shoot and onions, the tofu was overcooked, there was absolutely no ginger. it was simple oil, noodles, onions and soy sauce. Terrible, absolutely awful. I hadn't eaten all day and ate it out of desperation. I have to kneel on the floor and was just too much pain to wait for another dish to be cooked. I was extremely disappointed. Michelle

10/10 for customer service, the place itself and its location and, most importantly, the food! There’s the DTH menu and also Woo Tan Scran offering oriental small plates, which we had the veggie spring rolls and ‘prawn’ toast off. We also had the sweetcorn ‘ribs’ , frickles and loaded fries…. we both left with full bellies and I will definitely be back to try one of their burgers.

Down the Hatch is an amazing experience every time we go, and I am still finding new things that I love about it. Whether it's the new items on the menu, the service, or the drinks. I went with my wife for her birthday, and I really felt like I had nothing to worry about in terms of service - we were so well looked after and the food came so quickly and the quality was as amazing as ever. Even if you're an meat-eater like I am, the fact that the entire menu is vegan shouldn't put you off! Challenge yourself to try something new and go to Down the Hatch!

Absolutely love this place. I'm not wholly vegan but I do have problems eith dairy so to be able to eat anything and not stress about what was in it is amazing. Lots of choice for food and drinks. We had the cheesecake for dessert and it was amazing. Service was friendly and although it was quiet there was still a nice vibe to the place.

Tonight was my second visit to this little gem of a restaurant. I thought that my first visit was amazing, however I was wrong, tonight they took it up a level. I love this place, the food is outstanding, the staff are lovely and it's just a cool basement restaurant. My wife is not vegan or vegetarian (I am) and she loves the food here and she's the one that booked it tonight. All I can say is that the chef is a magician at creating beautiful (large) dishes with flavour.

I am a huge carnivore but after meeting the lovely Rikki, and seeing their food on line, I was intrigued by their food. So me and the family went down on Wednesday night and dined. I’ve got to say, it was bloody incredible. First of all, there was so much choice and so many things on the menu that looked bloody delicious…..so we ordered A LOT OF FOOD. I ordered the Chicken Curry with fried rice, Prawn toast and Bao Buns. I can’t remember what my wife ordered. It was truly delicious. The fried rice was my fave of all of it. Hands down the best fried rice I’ve had. Staff were all lovely and amazing and interacted with our kids. I honestly can’t fault it. It was so good, and will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu.

Brilliant place. Highly recommend! The atmosphere was great, the service was amazing and the food was delicious. What else can you ask for? The general style of the place was cool and they had good music playing. The waiters/waitresses were all really polite and they gave us free water without us even asking. The food itself was really nice. My family, who aren't even vegan, said they loved it. Would recommend. If I lived in Liverpool, I'd go here very often!

Three of us went in Sunday afternoon, we had walked past it without knowing so had to get Google maps up to find it! It's nice to go somewhere we can eat everything off the menu. We all had different variations of from the burger menu. Food was great, portions are big, and well priced too. Service was amazing, friendly and informative. Venue was lovely 😊 We'll be going back when the Sunday dinners return!

Amazing plant-based Asian food. The service was excellent and our waitress made us feeling very welcome. Highly recommend the salt and pepper tofu and the ‘prawn’ toast - went down a treat with myself and vegan family members. 2 for £14 cocktail deal was great as well and felt like value for money. Highly recommend to anyone in Liverpool - plant based or not.

finally got around to trying this place out. Wasn't disappointed in anything but myself really as I couldn't finish my main. Really didn't need the starter, but when in Rome. Massive portions, loaded fries were the dogs and the burger was next level. already planning next trip. Dog friendly as well

Went today with my partner and his daughter and everything was great. The staff was super friendly, nice and helpful, and the food was delicious, and big portions. We were full after the tasty burger and fries so came back later in the afternoon for dessert and was once again delicious. Highly recommend the place, give it a try, even if you are not necessarily on a plant based diet, there is so much choice you will find something you like, and based on your tastes the staff also recommends what you might like. Give it a try!

The personel is very friendly but that is nicest thing i can say about the place. How can you ruin a simple portion of fries? The pulled pork tasted like wallpaperpaste en the smell of the rest of the food was nauseating.

First visit to Liverpool and discovered this lovely place. So welcoming and friendly. We walked from the hotel to the restsurant in the rain so were slightly moist. We were served immediately and had a couple of cocktails. I had a rum cocktail. Very delicious very potent! We had starters of freckles and wings. Never tried these before and they were absolutely gorgeous. A meal in themselves served with a delicious dip. Followed by the applewood smoked seitan burger with pickles and slaw. So good. Loved the crispy burger against the soft bread and sour slaw. Better than anything I have tried anywhere. I wanted dessert but partner was stuffed. This place made our stay very special. wWill visit again to eat here. Thankyou.

Wonderful vegan place with lovely plant based food hihi

Tasty, affordable plant-based cuisine with a very wide range of options to suit any palette. A personal highlight was the deep-fried mac and cheese burger, which has been very difficult to find at other restaurants. Good location in the centre of Liverpool with a laid-back atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff.

Seen lots of great reviews here but was very shocked by the food. The food wasn’t fresh at all. Only thing that tasted okay were the chilli fries, however they were way too salty to eat. Tried two types of wings which we had to leave as the batter was so doughy. Mushrooms were sickly and in a watery sauce. Sweetcorn wings were the best thing. Had to leave most of the food as it was too sickly to eat. The idea of the meals were great however it felt like pre-packaged or reheated food. For the price of the food you’d expect fresh, good quality and home cooked food!! Massive shame :(

Fantastic menu, amazing flavour, not your stereotypical veggie food! As someone with a dietary requirement, I was catered to fantastically, with the staff making shared sides gluten free without me even needing to ask! They have a fantastic selection of foods, gluten free and not, and it's got to be my all time favourite restaurant (even the gluten free bread was amazing - anyone who's tried regular gluten free bread knows what I'm on about!). Our server was absolutely lovely as well, and chatted with us about their cooking process and recommendations, and I felt so reassured and comfortable eating there.

What a place, had a service of 35+. The manager was so accommodating and the family and I had a great time. Definitely coming back. Must try the meatless meat balls, and dooner and chips.

Went on a Monday night for dinner. Ordered the Apple Jack's BBQ - a crispy seitan patty, smokey pulled pork style BBQ jackfruit with BBQ sauce, fresh slaw, and crunchy onion rings with a side of french fries. I skipped eating the bread and just ate the inside because I wanted to focus on the best part of the sandwich. While I didn’t really taste any BBQ it was tasty, and the fries were perfect. An interesting setting and friendly staff made it a worthwhile stop.

Wanted a vegan meal but whilst I am visiting Liverpool- this place had raving reviews and the entire menu was vegan (even the drinks). The place is a bit hidden but very nice - great atmosphere! I went there for dinner and it was a bit quiet but slowly started to fill up. Per recommendation I got the zinger burger and regular chips. Good came out quick and the burger was spicy! I thought there was a lot of breading on it so I didnt like it 100% - it was very filling and the chips were very good. I also got their 2 for 14£ cocktails. The espresso martini was very good and the elderflower drink was very refreshing. Would come here again and maybe try their asian menu. Overall good service, nice vibes and nice food.

Visiting Liverpool and this was our first stop for dinner, the staff were lovely and on top of their game from the moment we walked in. service was prompt, cocktails were lovely and the food was amazing. I ordered the tofu with noodles which was tasty and my side of ‘prawn’ toast was amazing, my partner had the mac and cheese, he isn’t vegan so he was really impressed with the vegan cheese sauce. A little expensive but everything is right now and well worth it! Will 100% be returning when we come back to Liverpool!

Unfortunately the food was freezing cold but had been a long wait and we were starving so just ate it, it was soggy and flavourless. Servers were nice though :)

Wings were nice. Chicken style burger was drenched in a horrible sauce and was inedible. I wouldn't rush back. One of the staff was telling another customer they were a vegan restaurant, which I thought was strange seeing as they sell dairy.

I have honest to god never loved a food place as much as this one. It will forever be my go-to. I am not a social butterfly, I have social anxiety and eating out is normally my idea of a nightmare. But this place has such a carefree and casual vibe that I always feel at ease. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful but don’t hover. The food is always spot on, so many vegan options in restaurants are boring and plain, and I think Down The Hatch stomped out that stereotype very quickly. I wish I lived closer.

This is a gem of a restaurant. The food is amazing, but the staff make it the place to go. I have never been to a genuinely friendlier place. The small details are also spot on, a bottle of water with your table, chilled glasses, beautifully presented food, pristine toilets with feminine hygiene products subtly provided by the sinks, and music that doesn’t override conversation. The stairs are a bit steep, but I was truly impressed with everything else. A big thank you to the waiter who pointed the way to the toilets with a smile without my having to ask as well. Small gestures that reflect just what a class act the place is. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be going again. Highly recommend.

Such a beautiful place to meet, eat and drink. The food was out of this world! We'd travelled from Bolton to eat there and it was totally worth it. Just go.....nuff said.

Quite possibly the best Sunday roast I've ever had. Liked the place so much, me and my wife went back the next day after we had such good food on the Saturday night. Staff are realy friendly and helpful. The venue is great too. Surprised how big it is compared to how it seems from outside. Absolutely 100% recommended.

I eat meat and this is still one of the best meals I've had since moving to Liverpool. I had the Salt n Pepper Burger with Poutine Fries, GF had the same burger with the 420 fries and it was all really nice. Patatas Bravas and Espresso Martini were also very good. Expected it to be nice for veggie standards, it just ended up being incredible food with great service and I'll definitely be back

Was really excited to have a meal here. It's a good choice for a plant based meal and the Truffle Mac and cheese + mushroom burger was really yummy! The other dishes we had were a little disappointing and dry .

Welcoming to well behaved dogs (only at front of restaurant - so check availability ) . 2 4 1 burgers on offer .. access down several steep steps .so accessibility can be an issue . Wutan Scran menu also available . Delicious salt and pepper tofu and vegan chinese crispy duck delicious food. The deserts of vegan cheesecake and apple crumble were superb ! This place is well worth a visit even if you're not vegan . N.B. There are steep stairs down Iinto this basement restaurant . So people with mobility issues would struggle. But call for a take away?

Great vegan menu, the baked vegan camembert was something special you rarely see and with some other delicious tapas (the meatballs were excellent) we had a lovely meal for two. The venue has a cool vibe being underground and the service was great. Can't wait to go again.
