I got rained off work and the power company were replacing the pole outside ours, so no electricity for the day. We decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the tea room: I ordered the Irish Breakfast tea, while my wife had hot chocolate and the children had juice and milk. For the lunch we ordered sweet potato fries, cheese scones, and a ham and cheese panini with chili jam and side salad; afterwards the children had a slice of Victoria sponge cake and a slice of carrot cake. The food was absolutely delicious and the tea was of the highest quality - this coming from a bit of a tea snob. The two staff members were rushed off their feet, but they were very attentive and there was no delay in taking our orders, in clearing the plates afterwards or settling the bill at the end. They were not just polite and professional but lovely, and made us all feel very welcome! It's a privilege to have such a wonderful tea room in our village and so close to home, and I highly recommend it to anyone who either loves tea or would like somewhere to eat out, or both 👌

After reading such great reviews on Dotties Tearoom I decided this was the place to take my mother for afternoon tea on her 89th birthday. I made a point of speaking with them prior to booking to ensure they could cater to dietary requirements, mainly no cheese or mustard and only white bread for my mother. I also said it is so difficult to get a traditional afternoon tea and we want to make it special for her, they said they would put a Happy Birthday board out for her and put a candle on the cake, nice touch. Sadly no candle appeared. I was then told I would have to pay £10pp deposit to cover the cost of the cakes if we failed to turn up, this I did even though I had no idea how much their afternoon tea was. We arrived and were greeted by a lovely young lady who showed us to our table, there was, indeed, a small chalkboard on the table saying ‘Happy Birthday’. Whilst we waited, three biscuits were placed on the table, Dottie (I think) came to see what we wanted to drink, tea was included but, coffee only one cup was included. After what seemed like ages a massive tea pot was bought out, there was only enough tea to fill three small china cups, this would have been fine if we could have gotten their attention to get it refilled. Eventually, our food arrived, my mother had a separate plate to the three tier plates due to her not having cheese or mustard and only white bread. She had four finger sandwiches but only two were white bread. We would have mentioned it but the waitress was gone and we couldn’t catch her eye so we let it go rather than make a fuss in front of other people. We had also managed to ask for the teapot to be refilled. The sandwiches were fine, but, the second tier had three very small CHEESE scones, three exceptionally thin slices of CHEESE quiche and three very small fruit scones. We asked if there were any plain scones, the lovely waitress said she would see, then Dottie came out and said they had one large one we could share. We declined but they insisted on presenting it to our table, again, we declined, did we want to take it home she asked, again, we declined. The cakes which required a £30 deposit consisted of three inch square brownie type cakes, three slightly bigger square sponge bits with some seed in and a blob of white icing on and a bud from a tiny flower pushed in the top and three what looked like mini Victoria sponge cakes when in fact they were six small round sponges each had a pinkish/orange excessively sweet butter cream piped on and then one was placed on top of the other. We asked for the bill, having just eaten the sandwiches two scones and two pieces of quiche we felt very disappointed with the whole experience. After making the young waitress aware of how we felt she went away to get the bill but, I assume she spoke to Dottie because on her return she said they would keep our £30 deposit but not charge anymore. Out of interest, I asked how much it would have cost, she said £30pp! It does seem to be very popular so perhaps we were just unlucky today but considering they had plenty of notice and our £30 deposit I feel they failed miserably.

Went with friends expecting the best but were dissapointed, my fish and chips were more batter than fish and the chips were overcooked which meant they were hard, also the fish was skin on which I have never liked, the rest of the group made no comment which speaks for its self, one comment was however made that the wine was over priced, it is unlikely we we will be going again.

My daughter and I visited for the first time in November 23 after hearing and seeing things on FB. The place is very quaint and was decorated for Xmas. When the sun shines through the window it casts a multi coloured effect on the floor. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the full English breakfast each. It was cooked fresh with toast also. I cleared my plate and a couple of items off my daughters (she doesn’t do mushrooms..!) Through no fault of the cafe, unfortunately, she didn’t enjoy the bacon or the sausage, different suppliers with different recipes etc. She did however enjoy the other items on her plate. And the cakes…. Yummy 😋 We will be back sometime to try the main lunch menu as I could see them serving other customers and what I saw look great 👍 Oh, and you need to go through the bookcase door and not the other door further down that leads into the kitchen 😆

From the outside, we were expecting this tea room to be quaint and pretty. Instead it is a bit quirky, with an entrance door that looks like a bookcase, a hand on the inside for a door handle and a opticians screen for reading letters, very strange! The room itself is very small and painted completely black, including the ceiling which makes it feel very oppressive and closed in. There was only one other couple there but we had to wait a very long time for our food, we also had a tea and a latte but unfortunately the latte was only lukewarm and had no froth. Compared to other tea rooms we have been to we found dotties to be expensive. We won't be returning but wish them well.

If you want good pub grub then The food in this place is better than anywhere in the local area! A month ago my wife and I decided to try the food after the pub changing hands. We had the burgers 🍔 and the dirty fries 🍟 we have been residents of Coates village for 30 years and both grew up in Whittlesey. What you get here is the only thing within 40 miles that would rival anything decent burger and fries from London (I mean, American style)! I’ve severed some hi end establishments over my time with meat as I was a butchery manager that worked for jimmy Doherty (Jamie Oliver’s mate) for a number of years and I’m ecstatic that I have this 200m up the road! The service was spot too!! Hats off too chef at the vine!! This guy know what he is doing 🎩👍🍔🍟

The pub had really pulled out all the stops for us. Decorated tables and everything. Food and service was fantastic. The two minor complaints were dealt with very quickly and satisfactory. Well done the Elm Tree, Rock Choir will be back I'm sure.

Went with family and friends. Sunday roast was decent, lovely lamb, beef and chicken. Massive Yorkshire’s with loads of gravy with more offered. Scent roast potatoes which is always good at a pub and decent fresh cooked veg. Even the Brussels sprouts were good which was excellent. Staff generally very friendly, manageress seemed faulty stern but clearly runs a tight ship. Prices competitive. Difference between this and 5 stars is nothing to do with food and service. Down to fact that if you have a baby or toddler the changing facilities are less than basic! Something they really could do with sorting.
