Don Beni in Windsor and Maidenhead

If you want Italian cooking away from the big boring chains, this is for you. Great, homely food in a unique 16th century building—and the best staff a mile around. Unapologetically personal decor, good wines, and fun vibes. Really good at accomodating for food allergies, too. My favourite Italian in the area. The staff are so friendly, and I always feel welcomed here. Gorgeous building: unique Tudor-style interior with lots of nooks and crannies. Good wine selection; the Montepulciano is a favourite. I have allergies to four major food groups (dairy, egg, nuts, shellfish), and every single time the staff at Don Beni have been excellent at accomodating for them. Highly recommended.

Booked at short notice on a Sat evening. Couldn't have been more accommodating. Food and wine delicious, great value for money. Any tweaks required to meals accommodated. We had two kids in our group and staff were so friendly and accommodating to the kids. Fab place for a grown up night or a date. Lovely location with great atmosphere. Staff were fab. As a family of four we visited the Don Beni Italian restaurant during our stay in Eton. Sergio was very attentive and looked after us during the evening . Food was superb , my steak cooked to perfection , the mussels starter was impressive as well as the king prawns s and the sardines fresh and great to see on a menu ! We sat and ate over a few hours and thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience to the point we revisited two days later and did it all again finishing with warmed brandies and good quality Lemoncellos ! Gorgeous traditional Italian restaurant, serving pasta, pizza and meat dishes, it was all hot and freshly made, no ping dinners here! The portions were huge and we could not finish our main courses, we also missed out on dessert but the tiramasu going out looked out of this world. The staff were very happy and seemed pleased to be there which is always lovely to see, they couldn't do enough for you. Definitely a lovely place to enjoy our wedding anniversary after a long day in London.

Absolutely fabulous! We popped in for an early supper and received a very warm welcome from attentive and polite staff who were very efficient. Food was wonderful - the caprese salad was huge and delicious, a meal in itself. The best pizza I have tasted in a long time with lots of delicious topping. Very reasonably priced.

A hidden gem just over the bridge from Windsor. Finding somewhere to eat before theatre, everywhere was packed so we walked to Eton high street to find Don Beni, an old fashioned Italian restaurant. Fantastic atmosphere and the best Pizzas ever. Typical thin crust and bigger that the plates, tasted fantastic. Our server Marlene was lovely and we will be definitely going back again.

We were in Windsor on Sunday evening, searching for a place to eat before the theatre. As usual, it was totally manic and everywhere was booked up. So we ventured a little further down the haunted zone of lower Eton High Street and found Don Beni's. What a little gem! Some people, I believe, have described it as "old-fashioned". If by that they mean there are carpets on the floor which means you can actually hear yourself speak and it has a cosy atmosphere then yes, I suppose it is "old-fashioned". We both had pizzas - REAL pizzas, not the cardboard variety served up at so many other places - followed by possibly the best Tiramisu I have ever tasted. The service was efficient and friendly and the atmosphere perfect. I am Harmonical on YouTube and we suffer a similar problem as Don Beni - we get very few views...because no one knows us and no one can find us. That's why Don Beni's isn't packed out - so I guess I should have kept it a secret!

Don Benis never disappoints. You can taste the Authentic Italian ingredients in the freshly prepared food. Even the bread is freshly baked. We had first class service from Lena who also makes the tiramisu which is just the best you’ll ever taste. I could thoroughly recommend this authentic Italian jewel.

We came to this place for dinner and to continue our celebration for our little boy’s birthday after Legoland 😅 Marlena and Hugo were really accommodating and nice. They even sang a happy birthday song for our boy when they brought us the chocolate fudge cake for him. The food were really tasty, a nice italian taste. Highly recommended!

Having booked Don Beni almost three weeks prior, we arrived at the time of confirmed booking to be told the restaurant was closed due to a ‘holiday’ Usually wouldn’t mind as mistakes do happen, but considering it was a client lunch, it left me in a very embarrassing situation. How hard would it have been to call and let me know the booking had to be cancelled / changed? Not great 😔

Be clear - this is on Eton's High Street, not Windsor's nearby High Street the other side of the R. Thames by footbridge. Picturesque almost rustic village atmosphere and a nice welcome at he door. Great Pizza lunch, wine, etc., and great attention. Where else do you notice the children's water glasses being topped-up mid meal without asking? Professional, I thought. We had a lovely time.

Just fantastic. Our food was excellent, the service was great and the atmosphere perfect. This is a great place for authentic Italian cuisine. We were staying right across the street and spotted this place on arrival. We were delighted that we paid a visit. Highly recommended.

We called at 7.30 pm last night and were assured a table 9pm for a party of 6. We arrived just after 9pm and were told that table would be ready in 10-15 minutes. We requested to wait at the bar, there was plenty of space. They declined to let us wait there. As it was very cold outside and there was no queue, we were waiting in the portico with 2 children in our party. We were rudely told to wait outside and not in the portico, even though there was a bitterly cold gale outside. Extremely rude and condescending with undertones of racial prejudice. We were made to feel deeply unwelcome. Do not go here, extremely poor customer service.

As per usual we arrived without a reservation but were warmly welcomed. Food was fabulous, sirloin and fillet steaks were top notch as was the service. Highly recommend.

It was like going back to the 80's with the dark room, candles in wine bottles on the table. The decor needs bringing into the 21st century. It would have been nice to see what we were eating, but the lighting was so 'subdued' it was not easy. The menu choices could have been better. Sorry, we will not be visiting again

Really nice restaurant and staff were really friendly and attentive. Garlic bread starter was on point 8/10. But the mains were ok nothing more than average 6/10 lacked that flavour. Overall a 7/10.

Wow, what a really nice find, I ordered the calzone which was the size of a small pillow by the time it had arrived. The pizza was perfect with the contents, absolutely full of taste and full of flavour. Mohamed (aka momo) was both attentive professional and outstanding. This is one place I would definitely go to again, particularly with business I arrived early and didn’t feel rushed at all. Thanks team for a great service and amazing food.

Booked a month ago for our 34th anniversary and was not disappointed. The quality of the service from the time we arrived until we left was exceptional that was only exceeded by the food. Excellent varied menu. Will not hesitate to go again when stopping.

Authentic, delicious Italian food in the heart of Eton, Don Beni is the perfect restaurant for families or even parties (they have long tables in the back). Incredible pizzas, delicious fresh salads (tricolore is a favourite) and tasty al dente pasta just as it should be. Kind service too with extra care made towards children. Just a joy!

We used to frequent the restaurant when they were opposite the Castle. Great service, great food. Just as enjoyable as it ever was but with a better venue. We will be back.

We left it late to make a booking while stopped in Eton on a boating trip recently. It was a Saturday too. The staff of Don Beni did everything they could to fit us in. It was just a lovely experience. A real old style Italian restaurant with gingham tablecloths and chianti bottle candle holders. The food was exquisite and the staff had a fabulous drama about them. I will most certainly go back.

We stayed in Windsor for 2 nights on a family break and booked the Dom Beni for the first night of our stay. There is a great choice of food to eat, with some excellent daily specials. The food was perfect and the staff were so friendly, in fact it was so good we decided to book for the second night as well.

After being badly let down by Henry VI just a few doors away, we paid a visit to Don Beni and what a superb find it turned out to be. The manager, Ciro, was most welcoming and very friendly and the rest of the service staff were also.The food was also of a very good quality and I will be most definitely returning on our next visit to Eton next year

Several visits recently to this restaurant have all been brilliant. Service, food and pricing are all great and I would recommend a visit here for a meal to anyone. Best to book in advance as it is very popular.

What a fabulous restaurant. The staff were engaging, friendly and so helpful. We had a lovely cosy table by the window but they suggested to move us to a bigger table because we’d ordered several starters to share. The atmosphere was buzzing, the service was great and we were not rushed to leave even when I think we were the last ones in there. We had moules, calamari,King prawns and the remaining pizza I had no space for was popped into a pizza box for me to take home. Thank you!

Decor tired, but don't judge food on that. Except in this case. Food average. One prawn dish in shell, the other not. Steaks, ok. Sauce on steaks not so good.However what spoiled our 12th anniversary meal was the staff. The manager was not a happy person. The staff on wokingham were always happy and welcoming. Food was always good. None of the staff seemed happy. Service shoddy and careless. No interest in whether we were enjoying our meals. Not one smile from any member of staff. Weren't asked if we wanted desert and we left without so much as a thank you. Definitely had its day and saw so many other better places on our way back to our hotel. Not worth the walk.

Very unsure as to why this is so highly rated. Came in for a couple of takeaway pizzas and had to go back to send them return them. Both were so dry, terrible quality of base and incredibly overpriced (even for Windsor). The only positive I would say was that they were refunded as both the waiters acknowledged that they were bad. Never again!

Huge menu choice and very large portions. The pasta was beautifully cooked and the service friendly, good value as well. Worth a visit.

After a 12 hour exhausting but great day out sight seeing in London we got back to Windsor late but wanted finish off the day with an Italian meal. We were lucky to find Don Beni pretty late so thank you to the staff for accommodating us. We ordered a American hot pizza, a Funghi pizza and a pasta dish Napoli & a side order of fries. All delicious, generous portions. Great service, welcoming friendly staff. Thanks for a nice finish to our day. Highly recommended!

So delicious, we got a normal tiramisu and one of the new strawberry tiramisus with dark chocolate - both were excellent. The strawberry one is fab for people that don’t like the alcohol or coffee in a traditional one. Generous portions on both and great service as ever.

Incredible authentic Italian food, cannot recommend enough. Amazing pizza, pastas and salads. Staff were really friendly too when on the phone and delivering.

So happy to see that it is open during lockdown for takeaway, we had two slices of Adrian’s Tiramasu and it was amazing. Fab service, COVID friendly, would recommend.

Habíamos estado aquí antes y descubrimos que no tenía gluten. Qué cambio esta vez. ! Habíamos mencionado en la reserva que tres personas de nuestro grupo no tenían gluten, ya que son celíacos. No hubo problema fue la respuesta. Qué falso era esto. Había alrededor de tres opciones sin gluten en todo el menú. Nos dijeron que se había agregado harina a la mayoría de los platos, incluso pasta a la carbonara y espagueti a la boloñesa. (La pasta no tenía gluten). Como teníamos un chef con nosotros, sabíamos que esto no era cierto. ¡Incluso la caprese aparentemente tenía gluten hasta que dijimos que era imposible y la camarera sacó el queso y dijo que tenía aditivos! A cosy Ítalo-Argentinian restaurant with the most polite and friendly staff. - we just had a perfect birthday dinner. The food was truly five stars - unpretentious yet beautifully presented, satisfying our taste buds to the max. Definitely going back!

Excellent food generous portions garlic bread with cheese HUGE. Food good quality well cooked. Service a bit hit n miss generally ok but very busy. Very cramped seating (cosy) quite uncomfortable chairs and bench seats. Not really suitable for old aunt freda but we had a great meal.

We live close by and have walked by Don Beni dozens of times and decided to give it a shot tonight instead of the usual, more highly rated Italian restaurants in the area. I wanted it to be good but the service is disorganized, inexperienced and inattentive. The mains and starters were of average quality and the desserts are a mystery because they never came back to ask if we wanted any. In the future, I’ll keep on walking.

Well I can't even say that we tasted the food but for me Service is just as important. I booked a table for our sone to celebrate his 10th Birthday. We booked a taxi especially to get there and was told upon arrival they were too busy and couldn't accommodate us. I think its disgusting and cruel. It left my Son upset and in tears and I can't tell you what I felt like doing to these horrible people.

Went to this place when passing with 2 friends looked real old Italian family place tables dressing as you might expect, Food service was slow, soup was nice but all 3 mains were horrible, waitress never asked if we enjoyed food even though the plates were collected with about 80% left on plate.

Lovely friendly staff and amazing atmosphere, an overall very authentic feel. Would defiantly go back again. The only reason I have given it a 4 stars not 5 is garlic bread was a bit over done and for my taste their was a bit to much cheese on the pizza and waiting for the bill was a little while. But overall most waiting times were very quick. I went on a Saturday.

My husband and I both had veal which was some of the best we have ever eaten. I had the Veal Saltinbocca and my husband had Scalloppina Pizzaiola. The sauces on both were beautiful, the veal was tender and cooked perfectly. We then shared a wonderful Tiramisu.

The food quality is excellent, the prices for both food and drink are reasonable, the service is incredible. Well worth a visit.

Hadn't been here for a very long time. The menu was pretty much The same. We all found something we liked to eat and was tasty but the pizzas were very big! Must share one next time as such a waste. The spaghetti al vongole was good. The bill was veryhigh because of the drinks prices - obviously.However the food was tasty regular Italian food.

Popped into Don Beni for lunch while passing through Eton and so so glad we did. Immediately we loved the unique atmosphere and warm, friendly personalities of the staff who were very attentive.

Wanted to surprise my g/f. She likes Italian food. I called and made a booking and advised I want a more intimate seating area. Boom done, gave us a lovely table candlelit, great ambience and music. I had a gift and the waiter arranged to bring it with the dessert... simply amazing. Beautiful food, attention to detail noticeable. Warm friendly. Great stuff.

2nd visit...my son loves the pizza! Staff friendly and food lovely. We made a special trip to Windsor to eat here. The walls are covered with eclectic pics and photos so plenty to look at while waiting for food.

I found this wee Italian quite by accident. Very welcoming although we didn't book. Great atmosphere, relaxed even though it was busy. Great food, very efficient service. Very good value too - for Eton! I had spaghetti carbonara which was excellent. Good selection of wines too. Highly recommended and I'm definitely going back.

Visiting Windsor for the weekend strolled past and liked the authentic appearance and choice of food.

Called in on way home from Legoland based on reviews. 4 kids, parents and grandparents. Proper Italian food, family friendly. Good generous portions and tastes to die for. Lots of photos around the room from films like raging bull and the godfather. Brilliant food. Really can't overstate this.

We had lasagne and aubergine Parmigiana. The lasagne was mostly cheese and there was a very small amount of aubergine in a lot of tomato sauce for the Parmigiana. We thought the ambiance and staff were lovely, but food was very mediocre and overpriced. Pizza Express food is better, which is a shame as we prefer independent restaurants.
