So I popped in, a couple of weeks ago in the hope of grabbing a bit of lunch. The place is (I'm guessing) somewhere between 1920 and 1940's and has some lovely old wood panelling. When I got in there, the lunchtime crowd seemed friendly - but if food was on offer, they were keeping that firmly under there hat - not a menu or a blackboard with grub to be seen! The back garden has been created to be low maintenance (astro turf etc) but is as a result a bit lacking in character! I had a pretty cheap glass of wine and then shoved off to find food elsewhere!

Lived here for about two years and almost gave up hope in finding a good, cosy, proper pub. Then..... we came upon the "Dog and Gun"! Wonderful old world pub, grand landlord and his lady wife, great staff, keeps a great pint (you can tell the pipes leading up from the barrels are maintained properly), even the family pooch is friendly! Lots of friendly locals that make new 'uns feel at home. And then there's the food...... Bliss! We've found our pub-heaven on earth!

We visited for the first time on Boxing Day after seeing the pub listed in the local CAMRA guide. The pub has a very friendly atmosphere. There are all the normal drinks plus a couple of local ales. The inside is characterful and largely unchanged since it was built in the 1939s. Didn’t eat today because there wasn’t food on but would consider it next time. Will definitely be back.

This is a very cosy and friendly-feeling little pub, tucked away at the edge of Shilton. The landlady and landlord, Frankie and Steve, are always very welcoming and accommodating. The garden has recently been completed and we spent the afternoon chilling out on the leather suite, sipping a gin and tonic on ice whilst the sun beat down. Bliss! Oh, and you HAVE to try Frankie's homemade Sunday lunches. There isn't the best selection of places to have a decent Sunday lunch but this is a gem. And a bargain! We'll be going back again and again!
