Dobbies Garden Centre Thornbury Restaruant in South Gloucestershire

We were out for a drive, we stopped-off here for a look-around. We decided to call-in at the café for a coffee. It wasn’t busy; so there wasn’t an issue getting a table. The café interior was modern, pleasant, clean and tidy with no muzac (hooray). We ordered two American Coffees with hot milk which were soon made, the young woman at the servery was pleasant. The coffee was OK, it was hot, but not as strong as we prefer and didn’t have that burnt caramel flavour that we look for. It was an average coffee for an average cost.

I would avoid this over priced , dirty cafe. We ordered 2 jacket potatos which were clearly microwaved , they were also small and had no crispy ness to them, the cheese was tasteless and hardly any of which has the made the price VERY expensive. The ‘green salad’ is falsely written on the menu as it isn’t even salad! No idea what it was but it tasted like bulger , there was an option for cucumber & tomato but who doesn’t serve a jacket potato with a proper salad eg lettuce , onion , cucumber & onion) There was an option for just cucumber and tomato but that’s still not a proper salad! My nan had the roast beef which consisted of frozen roast potatos & frozen Yorkshire pudding for around £13😳 All the cups for the water were dirty , the saucers and cups for the hot drinks you could feel food stuck to them if you rubbed your hands around & the cutlery was dirty. There was someone eventually going round clearing the plates off the tables but none of the tables got cleaned / wiped 🤢🤮

Does anyone from management actually read these reviews? It’s absolutely pointless having a Dobbies membership card as you have zero chance of reaping the restaurant benefits. The management’s idea of ‘running’ a restaurant involves paying the bare minimum of students minimum wage and expecting them to cook, clean and serve. The results are very long queues, dreadful food, dirty environment and exasperated customers. Perhaps they should actually care to read the reviews and do something about it? There are so many garden centres to visit for good food and atmosphere- this should be the very last on your list (and only if everywhere else is closed.)

A lovely experience. My family and I are regulars at Dobbies, we have a card and go multiple times a month. We went today for our first ever breakfast. It was lovely, good portions and a good price. The meat was good quality and the fried eggs had a runny yolk! Never had a bad experience at Dobbies, drinks are always hot and cakes are yummy. Also dog friendly :)

We ordered a cheese and tomato toastie , Quite frankly it was tasteless . Could not take cheese at all and the tomatoes were sliced so thinly the only thing I tasted was the skin ! Will absolutely not return .

The cafe was untidy, tables not cleared or wiped clean. Chairs were stained & dirty. Who wants to sit on one when wearing tidy clothes? Had a horrible grubby atmosphere in there. I would not go there again. I was surprised as it’s been taken over by a chain, imagined it would be nice. Disappointed.

This was our 'birthday treat' as we have a Dobbies Club Plus card. Two teas and two cakes as a gift which I thought was very good. Although you pay £15 to enrol you also get two free teas/coffees per month and 10% off of any purchases. Staff were very pleasant and service was fine. Food was very nice and the restaurant was clean and bright.

Sorry to have to write a bad review but I feel something should be done pronto. My husband and I went for a light lunch as soon as we walked in we were told no toasted sandwiches only mac and cheese or ham and eggs or jacket potato so we decided to have a fruit scone each well what can I say !the worst scone we have ever had very dry no taste just crumbled on the plate we would have been better eating it with a spoon which we did see a customer doing. They obviously have some serious issues which should be addressed ASAP. Also it was freezing cold we and other customers keep our coats on .

Called in for a spot of light lunch. Big mistake. A disorganised place, where staff didn't seem to know what their roles were and self-service food was conspicuous by it's absence. Decided on cheese scones (only one left, so I had a plain scone). Had to ask for butter because the containers were empty! To be fair, the scones were very nice! Having paid the food and ordered and paid for coffees, I waited by the coffee machine, only to be asked what I was waiting for by a staff member. I duly repeated the coffee order. The flay white was very average, and my wife's decaf Americano was so anaemic, I commented as much to the staff member, only to be told it was like that because it was decaffeinated. What nonsense!! Sorry, but we won't be returning. Some serious management and training issues I think.

Rubbish self-service system and queuing which doesn’t work, especially when really busy. No signs to indicate that you are supposed to collect your own cake slices etc - then they tell you at the till to help yourself? So you have to go back on yourself and through all the other people waiting… such bad organisation. Hot drinks station isn’t very organised and staff don’t seem confident. Staff aren’t clear on what the specials are that are listed on the website. Atmosphere isn’t great and tables unclean. Also, manager does not respond to complaints which is a massive red flag. Awful all round and do not recommend a visit. Needs a massive revamp and proper customer service training. Used to be fantastic when it was Wyvale.

I have two daughters one in Newport, South Wales the other in Dursley, chose this garden centre for lunch as a central location. Food served from 11:30 Ordered two Chicken BLT’s and a Croque Monsieur, two drinks and a tap water………, well just short of £30 later,and my only words are pathetic. Come on £7.25 for a sandwich. Bread was not fresh, no tomato or lettuce in a BLT which I believe stands for Bacon Lettuce and Tomato…,…… sorry will not be returning very disappointing. Cost of living crisis, moments with daughters and grandchildren are special……this was and I am being polite poor by any standards.☹️

Very disappointing. 1pm, no ham left, soup shortage, not sure what else was out of stock - only had rejection of foods that we asked for. Hot drinks left on counter, no indication that we should collect. Server embarrassed at lack of food. Wasn't even that busy. Previous visit, friend sent back veggie option back as one element was overcooked and impossible to bite into. Lovely setting but even the staff seem to realise how rubbish their food offering is.

Missing food items from breakfast, went up to counter and was told they would bring them over……never appeared. When you pay £1 per item to have missing items was not good. Fried egg was tiny and beans had been boiled several times. Overall very poor and extremely expensive

Disappointed to find this has now become self service which isn’t easy with a disabled person. There at 4pm so not much choice left but cakes we chose were fine.

Upon arrival we were shown to our table which was already set up and decorated with crackers and Christmas table decorations. The afternoon tea was plentiful and unlimited pots of tea. The staff were pleasant but we did find the restaurant a little cold and when visiting the toilets they weren’t the cleanest.

Visited today for lunch with family was extremely surprised to find that although we bought lunch we were changed £2 to use the soft play area within the restaurant hasten to add we weren’t the only ones to unhappy about it will not be visiting again..

If you do go - Ring ahead first!! Coming from Bristol to tfind out no food being served today for a 3 year old aswell is a complete joke!! Even no sandwiches??? What on earth?? Don't go!! Bring your own if you go.

Booked an afternoon tea for 4. Arrived and seated within minutes. Drinks came almost immediately followed by the food again within minutes. Had a selection of 4 finger sandwiches, 2 scones with jam and cream and 4 mini deserts each and unlimited drinks. All fresh and enjoyed by us all. Friendly staff as well. Will definitely return.

Visited today for breakfast. Queued for 40 minutes to order. No hot food being served. Only 2 staff one if who was making the drinks the other who took orders, cleared tables. What an absolute mess. There were other staff around but no one appeared to make any effort to solve the problem. No extra training is needed to clear tables. This is not a new problem but has got worse. They should close this store as it has zero appeal. This is my last visit. Out local Dobbies makes the Thornbury store look ridiculous and suffering from incompetence.

Arrived before 10.30, only wanted 1 tea and 1 coffee, we waited over 20 minutes. For drinks. Only 2 people serving and they were taking food to tables as well. I know they were short staffed, but surely management should help out when needed. Tills in way out weren’t much better. We certain,y won’t be back!

Staff that obviously didnt want to be there, service unbelievably slow, 48mins for two coffees... Food was cold before the coffee arrived... Wont be back,

Came to visit to find no menu what on offer!! Plus no sandwiches no jacket potato’s no hot meal I means nothing !! Only coffee and cake !! Might as well shut down and bring another independent catering company who can do it far better...

Visited here for lunch , the venue is large and has a soft play area for young children. the food was average and service slow due to lack of staff, one person taking the orders and payments while the rest served food.
