This was our 1st Pupkin event at Dobbies and it was very good. Our little dog Tilly loved it. The Pupkin Patch area is inside Dobbies thankfully given the terrible weather. Full of doggy goodies she was on her own little treasure hunt. Emily who greeted us and took us around the area made a fuss of Tilly who loved the attention. At the end Tilly received a toy which was of good quality and we had digital photos taken which we down loaded at home. Many thanks to Emily and the photographer who are clearly dog lovers who were super friendly and patient. More events like this please Dobbies.

I would rate zero if possible. I went with my husband & granddaughter and it was awful. Long queues for different areas and it was filthy, stains all over seating and dirty cutlery. One coffee, one coke, one tasteless dry cheese scone, soup & sandwich & a children’s pasta was over £23. The child’s pasta came with three dried up, discoloured pieces of carrot that belonged in the bin and three dry pieces of cucumber. My granddaughter wanted an ice cream and it was £2.75 for one small scoop. As a lot of other reviews…never again! It’s a treat to eat out these days and to get service like that is disgraceful.

Purchased a £400 bistro set and spent many hours texting the head office for availability of the correct cover. The inability to even send one from another shop to ours is ridiculous. The after service is 0/10. Had to purchase a non standard cover to protect it from The Range. Dobbies you should take a leaf out of other companies as this is not the way to treat a customer

This was 2nd time this week because had gone to buy a outdoor furniture which we looked at on Tuesday. We spoke to Georgia which is good sorting things out. We spoke Lisa about buy the furniture and she explained how it was going been to delivered and when . Then We decided to go have a coffee and there was a lot people , and a lot of seats you could sit down. There was not a problem to find seat. That was between 10.30 and 11.00. This was a poor experience. No real build up to see Santa... you basically queue in a short line and either side there are a few christmas animals...then you enter the shed. The staff were very polite and accommodating but overall there was nothing magical about this experience

We were looking to seeing Santa at Dobbies in Southport this afternoon. I was first extremely disappointed to see the grotto consisted of a few trees and a couple of animals - this does not constitute a grotto! I have seen more decorations in people's gardens this year.Secondly, we booked a 3.40 slot, yet when we arrived the queue was already at least 12 families deep. There was no social distancing, no floor markings or staff to manage the queue ( during a pandemic this is disgraceful) Then we had to wait for 1 hour and 45 minutes before we actually got to see Santa. My children by this point were frozen and miserable after standing in the cold for such a long period of time and therefore didn't even enjoy seeing him. Even the presents, which we thought would make up for some of the disappointment were mediocre. My 6 year old nearly burst into tears at a Doc McStuffin book, which is appropriate for a pre school child. No member of staff came to the queue at any point to explain or apologise. I then complained several times to the staff who were only at the back of the grotto doing photographs. I was informed there was a computer issue. Which I still don't understand how this would mean we would wait for 1 hour 45. I asked if we would receive a refund for our terrible experience, to which I was hold to contact the company - this is not acceptable. Additionally, several families went around to the exit and were allowed to jump the queue and see Santa rather than waiting - making our wait even longer. I have never had such an appalling Santa's Grotto experience in my entire life. My two children have been left cold, disappointed and what was meant to be a nice experience turned into a disaster. Do not visit- appalling.

My wife bought a firepit for the family which was received slightly damaged. Our contacts were Sarah and Andy who were patient, amenable and genuinely did all they could to resolve the issue. The reason this is 4 star and not 5 is that over my 4 phone calls I spent a total of 35 minutes listening to a recorded message which is not fair. They should implement a system such that if the call is not answered swiftly you can leave a message and contact number for them to return the call. Ultimately, me and The Boss are grateful our firepit looks the part and thanks to Andy and Sarah.

We have been visiting dobbies for years to see father Christmas. He has always been very good so we keep coming back. The one we saw years before talked to my children about the reindeers and really got them excited. This year the man they used seemed tired. He didnt really go into anything with my daughters apart from asking what they would like for Christmas. I could tell that would be it so I decided to start talking a lot to make my daughter feel like it was magical. Best Santa we’ve ever met! He chatted to the children about his favourite Christmas song, tactfully navigated their questions, gave them tips on his favourite treats to leave by the fire to keep him going on Christmas Eve. Breakfast very good quality but the chocolate brownie pudding shaped like Christmas tree complete with icing, sprinkles etc for children to decorate and keep them occupied was an expert move. Great quality gifts which Santa gave out too. Magical morning... thank you so much

I visited with my 85 year old Dad and went to the part of the cafe where they make baguettes and sandwiches. We were ignored by the girl serving for a couple of minutes and when she eventually dragged herself over to us, we were informed that the service didn't start for another 15 minutes. So, she quite happily left an elderly man to stand there. Another member of staff appeared and I questioned why we were being made to wait when there were no signs to say what time the service started. She answered that they were taking orders so the other member of staff clearly could not be bothered serving us. Absolutely disgraceful and I will never visit again.

My wife and I bought only a few weeks ago a table and chairs, fire pit style, reduced to £395. Today on line I found, what I thought was the same items in a nearby store, the Range reduced to £200. I went and spoke with the manager remarking on the similarities and asking for a price match locally which is their policy. However having spoken with the deputy manager I was informed it was not identical and may be of an inferior quality and I would not qualify for a part-refund. Both pictures look very similar to me, down to the cushions, tiles and style. The only positive was I could return my furniture for a full refund, whereby I could then save myself £200 on the other purchase. It was not the outcome I would have hoped for from a store we have frequented supported regularly since it's opening. I will be writing to the head office for their comments and give feedback, thereafter.

This is clearly much more than a garden centre which I think is probably its core business but here you can buy other garden stuff as well as plants and tools like garden furniture and barbecue and not forgetting a nice new top, calendar, jigsaw, toys, vases, house plants, mugs, food and kitchen equipment. Personally I find the garden centre ridiculously expensive and poor quality. It does however sell rather nice cake in its large cafe which is clearly popular with the blue rinse brigade looking for an easy shopping experience virtually all under one roof and without their hair getting ruined as most of the outside plants are under cover too! There is a play area for kids but I’ve not really seen that.

The children played, with the playcentre exclusively for them, they eat afternoon tea which was very nicely presented and a great combination of fruit and cake along with flower shaped sandwiches. The children also decorated gingerbread and the 90mins flew by. The playcentre was very clean, when we arrived and the facilities are new and of a very high standard. I would highly recommend.

The shopping for garden plants a success as usual but the restaurant visit wad yet again a comets let down. Ok, we queued as expected, eventually sorting our requirements, then trundle over to then queue to pay, this was a disaster. The queue was about 6 people, ( not bad you would think, wrong, it took forever, two meals going cold. Why they cannot open the other till when staff can obviously see people waiting with their slowly congealing lunches. Patience was now ebbing away so I approached a male member of staff I could see bobbing around, asking politely if it would be possible to open the other till as our meals were going cold. He informed me it was he's job to open other till but he was busy filling the condiment section. When he eventually opened the other till, the people at the back became first in the queue for that till. We eventually was served along with other dissatisfied customers. These two very unhappy diners will only be frequenting the restaurant for nothing more than a coffee in the future! P. S. The trifle was very nice but that was meant to be cold! I've rated one star for the trifle and one for the garden plant shopping.

My only problem is the restaurant - not much inspiration there - whoever thought that congealled food sitting for hours under hot lights would be appetizing - also from their demeanour the restaurant staff look like they just don't want to be there - so for us definitely 5 stars for the Garden Center but give the restaurant a miss.

Lunchtime, 2 adults and 2 small children. Cafe extremely well-populated, so hopeful. Children's snack boxes available, which I thought a good idea and reasonable value. However, only one type of sandwich left, and ONE bruised apple. For adults could find only some limited hot dinners, and a plentiful supply of cake. Wanted a light snack - only thing on offer baguettes (ham/cheese, cheese/pickle etc) at £6.90 each. Ended up with a scone and a slice of cake. People queued for hot food, then a long queue for hot drinks, then ANOTHER long queue to pay. Cashier obviously untrained - did not know how to work the till and had to keep referring to a colleague. Took AGES to tot up our small amount of food and drink. Later came to table to inform us payment had not gone through, so had to return to till and do again. Later noticed an item on bill of £1.50 charitable donation, which I had not been asked if I wanted to make. What's that all about? Couldn't face another queue to make a query, so let it go. Oh, the scone and cake were OK, but shan't do this again unless desperate.

My husband and I visited Dobbies Southport for the first time to have lunch together. The food looked delicious and we both ordered the shepherds pie, mixed vegetables and roast potatoes. When my husband went to pay the cashier kindly pointed out that, as pensioners, we were entitled to a meal with a hot drink and pudding for the same price as just the main meal. We were delighted but once we started eating, it was quite a disappointment. Although the shepherds pie was delicious, the vegetables were cold and the roast potatoes were inedible. The adjacent table to ours was also full of dirty dishes from the previous diners and I had to call the cleaner over to collect them. When the serving lady brought food to people on a nearby table, I called her over and told her about the state of the food for which she apologised and just walked off. We left the vegetables and roasties on the plate and my husband went to get our drink and sweet. However, due to the long queues, he just got the lovely looking jam sponge and custard (the server asked him if he wanted gravy on them!!) but when we began eating them, the custard was tepid and the sponge was so hard, we had to attack it with the spoon instead of cut it normally. Eventually, I called the dish clearer over and asked if the duty manager was available. He brought her over and we explained what had happened. She said it was a shame we had eaten the sponge and custard because she would have replaced them. I (tactfully) pointed out that our first complaint had fallen on deaf ears and we had left the food uneaten on the plate. She offered us some cakes for our inconvenience and said she would investigate why it had happened - we declined the cakes as we really didn't want anything for our complaint but I said I thought Dobbies had a training issue as the food was below standard and it was difficult to believe that her statement that "The food temperatures are checked hourly," was indeed being followed - either that or the server wasn't bothered or was too busy to actually do it effectively. We won't be going back.

We popped in, to look for Xmas goodies and novelties and ended up having midday meal there. My son plumped for the fish and chips (£10.95) with peas and tartare sauce. No complaints there. My wife, who was not feeling that hungry, had the chicken and barley broth(£4.75)- a rather small bowl of soup for the money, with a bread roll or two. She liked it and said it had a ‘kick’ to it. I chose the beef in red wine, accompanied by mashed potato, garden peas, carrots and parsnips., costing £9.75. Now, the taste was basically OK- there were button mushrooms in the stew, too- but my meal suffered from a very common problem in restaurants. The food was prepared earlier and kept warm by hotplate and the heat from very bright lights. As a result, the carrots, peas and mash were all dried up in both appearance and taste. Lastly, a pot- of- tea for two cost an eye watering £4.10 and only contained one ( small) cup and a partial top- up of each.

Very, very disappointing ham baguette. No butter on the rather stale baguette, little ham, salad going brown and crisps old and soggy. Knives and forks were not clean and in very short supply. Will never eat there again. Cakes looked nice but after the baguette decided not to spend any more money in the cafe.

I go for breakfast here with my dad every weekend. I love having the range of options so we don’t always get the same thing every week. Cakes are lovely, breakfast is super cheap and tasty and there are other things available at lunch and dinner etc.

Went to Dobbies yesterday for lunch. Sorry we did as it was a miserable let down. Had beef inwine with mushrooms and rice .. hubby had tips. The beef in wine was bland and just warm the chips were old and a bit soggy. The cup of tea was perfect. Been to Dobbies quite a bit over the years they used to do a good salad bar however they no longer do .. bad decision its hard to wreck a salad.

Visited to pick up an order from Cotton Traders in-store at Dobbies Southport. Have never eaten here before just bought plants etc. As it was lunchtime we thought we would give it a go. Two serving sections one for drinks one for food and wasn't entirely sure what to do first. Hubby queued for drinks and I did the food. You are given an order number to put on table. You then have to go to central pay point. I bagged a table as it was busy and when my husband was carrying the drinks my heart was in my mouth as the floor was spattered with food and I thought he might slip so left my shopping and dashed over and told him. We had tea and jacket potatoes. Food was just ok my chilli cheese potato came with no cheese and I really couldn't be bothered to go and sort out. Salad is just lettuce leaves no dressing or tomatoes etc.By the way be aware if you want mayo etc ask cashier as it isn't on display and nobody tells you unless you ask. Going back to the floor, for goodness sake Dobbies tables were being cleared and staff doing it were stepping over it jelly, cake, pieces of meat you name it! Health and Safety would have had a fit! Won't be eating here again.

Just went for breakfast and to be honest won't be going again. The service was so slow the breakfast was cold before the drinks were ready.Only one member of staff on drinks counter!! The lady on the food counter was alone as well and didn't look pleased when I asked for something that was going to involve her asking kitchen staff rather than serve from the hot plates. The food side should have it's own till point and drinks should be available on that side as well Basically you queue twice in separate queues to get the complete meal. We are members of the Dobbies Club Plus and have not minded queuing for drinks and cakes but to be honest there needs to be a serious review of meal and drink service.

Visited this garden centre a few days ago. The whole place resembles a lofty warehouse with nothing inviting to look at. They had a sale on but other than candles and room incense

Excellent range of bulbs, plants, vegetables and fruit trees for planting. Experienced staff on hand to answer queries too. Gift ware is a little pricey, but there's a nice range of things to buy, and if you have time for tea & cake there's a super range to choose from - my favourite is the chocolate cake every time!

Rather expensive but good choice of products. Cafe needs a better organisation as food nearly cold before payment complete.

Came here for dinner around 2pm we had a toastie and a panini both served with chips. We had to wait 15 minutes for food but you expect that when it’s busy and the weather is nice so that wasn’t a problem. As the title says it was great food and I would recommend this place for food. The tuna melt panini is a high recommendation from my lovely girlfriend!

Been here many times for a cuppa and scone or cake even had a sandwich here occasionally! Yesterday a Sunday we were visiting And decided to have Sunday lunch here! I had Turkey, 2 small roast potatoes, cabbage and gravy! The meat was ok the ret of it was verging on cold and hardly a platefull! my husband vegetarian had cheddar and red onion quiche no sign of any red onions and what he ate of the quiche was like scambled eggs he said! Not worth the money service was also diabolical! I expect a friendly person dishing up my food!!

having recently been to the Dobbies at Speke, I can't believe how different the 2 cafes are. The staff here are pleasant and polite, and more of them, the tables are cleared promptly, the food is brought to your table rather than you having to stand at the counter whilst the paninis/toasties are made. Plenty of food available in preparation, tea and coffee are prepared at a counter rather than self-serve. The whole experience was so much better, and there was actually more choice of food, and the prices were the same. Well done Southport. Only quibble is that the sandwich served with the soup combo was a bit poorly presented, pre-wrapped in cellophane, like a kiddies' meal sarnie

I take my lad to dobbies once a fortnight. We enjoy the shop, the fish, toys, food hall etc. The coffee and cake is good. However every time we have food we are disappointed. The salad garnish is always tired, brown and inedible. The cooking oil is often dark and burnt tasting. It's a simple menu so there is no excuse for poor quality or tired produce. Sort it out dobbies and i might actually visit more and recommend you to others.

Visited the nice restaurant part this week which seats at lot of people only to be greeted with have we booked?!! Awkward feeling really as the place was virtually empty and after coming here many times over the last couple of years and never been asked that it felt a little embarrassing as we hadn’t,but told by the gentleman hang on while he checks!! I could have understood it if it was heaving.Anyway, We were allowed to stay and if we hadn’t been hungry we wouldn’t have bothered. We were there over an hour and in that time one couple and a party of three came in only to be asked the same question (have you booked)!!!!(it was still empty). They only do afternoon tea now so the wonderful extensive menu I’m afraid is a thing of the past so we won’t be rushing back.We were told new owners with new ideas!!

We have been twice to the afternoon tea restaurant in the last couple of months and each time we have been greeted by the most unfriendly, rude and narky woman in the tea room. Everything is too much trouble for her and we caught her rolling her eyes just because we asked due to dietary requirements, to have no butter on the sandwiches. Surely the sandwiches should be freshly made, as this quite expensive tea room claims!

We visited today during an impromptu road trip to Southport. The food and service was great and brought back memories of when I used to visit with my grandparents when they lived locally! The cafe was very clean and I couldn’t fault it at all. Live music outside was a bonus!

Just called the jube must say there telecommunications system they have installed is amazing, I called and reception answered, a lovely girl answered, I asked to be put through to the bar and was put through in a fraction of a second, I didn't even hear a beep. After my conversation with again another lovely girl in the bar, I asked to be put back through to reception and again like magic it was an immediate transfer with no beeps again. Amazing. A credit to those 2 lovely friendly girls, you would swear they were related

Tried the Guest House with my Mum for lunch today, absolutely loved it. I had fish and chips and my mother had the lamb pie from the specials board. The food was very tasty and incredibly good value. I'd probably expect to pay a fiver more around Southport for something half as tasty. Gayle the landlady is a star, very accommodating and friendly. Looking forward to going back to try some more of the menu!
