Used to go here regularly, wow has it deteriorated. No tables cleared, carpet filthy and covered in food. 2 hours before closing and very little choice. Large cakes were in terrible condition. Staff very abrupt. I tried to ring several beforehand for info no answer. Saving grace the scones were lovely but certainly not good enough to tempt us back.

Not the best Dobbies . The food is the same as many others but the building could do with some refurbishment .Nevertheless, it's popular and it can take time to be served. There is plenty of parking

The cafe/restaurant occupies the major part of a first floor mezzanine accessed by stairs or a small lift. A self service arrangement offers hot food at lunchtime and a choice of bakery items. Our toasted tea cakes were tasty and the lattes were machine dispensed rather than barista prepared. A large seated area gave plenty of seating options. Cutlery seemed a hit or miss affair, no tea spoons, no Demarrera sugar. Table clearance and cleaning was somewhat slow

What a shambles we stood waiting to be served for 45mins , we paid for adult meals so we then had a free child’s meal, the lady on the till was so rude she questioned my mom as to why she hadn’t told her she had a free child’s meal even though she could see it on her tray, she was blonde with a short bob she needs sacking no people’s skills at all how dare she question my mom and make her look stupid infront of people ??? Our visit to the Dobbies “restaurant” was a real disappointment. The standard of service and the cleanliness of the area was disgusting. Most of the tables were left with dirty plates on and the floor was littered with rubbish and food. Other areas were piled high with leftover plates and crockery. Will not be visiting again.

Really disappointing- only wanted coffe & cake. Had to stand behind 10 people while they ordered hot food. The barista couldn’t serve me as the management dictate “one queue”, even though he was standing around waiting for the next folk to order - ridiculous! This cafe drives me crazy with the setup of the cafe. The queues are ridiculously long and there is not a separate queue for drinks only. Staff are quite passive aggressive when asked so clearly they are fed up of being asked. Food is nice its just the service that's bad. Such a shame

A lovely little place to have a meal, afternoon tea or a coffee: free every month if you have a Dobbies card. However, the ambience is usually ruined by dirty, uncleared tables, whilst staff stand around talking. Even after mentioning this to staff, only one table was cleared but the table left not cleaned with spilt coffee on it. This is the second time this week we have been in, in what is a superb garden centre. However, we do enjoy a coffee and a cake or whatever each visit. On Wednesday, whilst we did purchase from the garden centre, we did not stay in the restaurant. There were no cleared tables with 17 empty but uncleared. We were not the only customers who did not stay, it was the general source of conversation as we walked through the centre. Today we did get a table, but only because my wife cleared it herself, whilst I queued for the coffee. Come on Dobbies, get back to where you were before Covid. You have a great product, you are a lot better than you are now performing. I give you two out of five because your coffee is still first class, your staff are very friendly; but could work a little harder/more efficiently. I look forward to a better more improved 2024 with Dobbies at Gailey.

The products in the garden centre are lovely, you can get some nice bits. Some of it is over priced and you can get cheaper online. However the issue is the CAFE It’s a DISASTER, nobody is really thinking about the next move, they plate up your food give it to you then before you know it your foods cold and you are still stood waiting for your hot drinks. They don’t work together as a team, and spend too much time nattering. Dilly dallying at its best.

Having been regular visitors over many years, today was one of the poorest experiences in over twenty years. The shop was filthy and the staff totally uninterested and offhanded. If it wasn't for having travelled over an hour for today's visit we would have left without parting with around £200. Our original experiences were in the Scottish stores and subsequently Cannock once it was opened. It will be a long time before we will visit this establishment again, if ever. Having happily spending thousands of pounds with this company over the years, we are sorry to say todays visit was absolutely appalling. I feel truly sorry for the owners of this company. I hope things improve.

So they have changed the restaurant so that now you wait at the counter for your food to be made rather than collect it via a buzzer system. This is terrible as it means huge queues and you are waiting around not knowing where to go and when. The menus aren’t on the tables and they are not even at a logical place at the beginning of the queue. It all makes for a time consuming and confusing experience and by the time you have your food and get back to the table your food is cold. It’s crazy. Bring back the buzzer system so we can have our food hot!

Called in for lunch today after a business meeting. Stood in the queue for probably 15 minutes without moving. You could sense how fed up everyone was culminating in the people in front of us leaving, the people behind us leaving and us following them. Staff completely indifferent didn't even have the gravitas to walk along the line and apologise to people. What was really frustrating was that you could see the food which didn't look too bad, but even if you had been served it would be nailed on stone cold by the time you got to the till. It was like a bread queue from pre Perestroika Russia and exercise in both futility and disappointment.. For the record check my other reviews I rarely post a bad one. Good luck getting served this side of the next century.

Visited today for afternoon tea clearly states scone jam and cream but told by staff have to pay extra for jam and cream but had no cream after 1/2 hour after offer had started. Customers back up no social distancing in place due to the lack of poor hygiene resume in cleaning of tables, all tables where covered in cups plates etc etc people where sat at tables where previous customers had left all crockery no attempts to clean until told. This is a poor case if inexperienced and immature staff no work ethic and no clear mature leadership it’s a joke compared to the extremely high standard we expect from Dobbies like Perth which we recently had the pleasure of visiting excellent Covid and social distancing procedures.

On visiting twice recently, found no tables available and yet only about 5 couples in the whole restaurant. Therefore about 20 tables piled high with crockery . By the time someone came to clear a table for us, our coffee was cold. Table and chairs completely sanitized. On another later visit, noticed a table quickly sprayed, one chair dusted on the back and one arm and the other three chairs just pushed under the table. Covid prevention does not seem to be a priority. Note that dogs still admitted to the restaurant and yet at other public venues dogs are now banned.

I visited 2 days ago with my 80 year old mom, we used the lift to access the restaurant and had to pass a row of chairs around the servery and a small queue of 2 couples and one lady. I sat my mom at a table and waited in the queue. When waiting I was told by a member of staff dressed in a chefs jacket that it would be a 15 minute break. 8 minutes later I have not moved and the 3 people allowed at the servery are still there. My mom is then at my side after being told she cannot reserve a table, she had to stand with me in the queue. Mom walks with a stick and is affected by a recent stroke and is unable to stand for the duration to get served. When I questioned the same member of staff she said she had to keep the tables for the customers at the servery which there were now 2 of the same 3. I pointed out to her that there were still more than enough tables left. She offered to get mom a chair and said that they were short of staff. There are lots of printed signs up regarding the coronavirus and this 'rule' is not mentioned on this. I feel this way of 'running' the restaurant has been left to the staff to put the measures in place, but if you want everybody to stand in a queue with such slow service you should make a provision for the children and all customers with health and mobility issues.

Popped into the cafe hoping for something tasty and I was really disappointed at the menu. Basically the only vegan option was a jacket potato with baked beans. Really? Most cafes nowadays have great vegan options. Look at any branch of Costa or Starbucks for example. We asked if any of the cakes were vegan. The lady went and asked the chef and came out with the reply “none of our cakes are vegan free.” I couldn’t stop laughing. Vegan free? Oh dear.Thankfully they did offer soya and oat milk options for the hot drinks so we did have a very nice latte. I would also like to point out that the cafe itself is very nicely laid out and clean and tidy and never too busy. Staff are friendly and helpful. But please, PLEASE give us some vegan options that aren’t baked beans.

We are very regular customers for Sunday breakfast which has always been good value for money. As a party we vary in age from 3 to 91yrs. From last week, Dobbies, in their wisdom, have changed from a ‘choose which 5 or 7 or 10 item’ to a fixed menu. Instead of being able to select items to suit individual taste and/or dietary requirements, they have now decided you WILL have (on the 7 item)sausage, black pudding, hash brown (all unhealthy, processed items I don’t want) bacon, tomato, beans and mushrooms. You had customers walking away. You will be loosing our custom. You had staff being complained at which is so unfair on them. You need to reverse this decision.

What can I say !!!! everything was absolutely perfect, a lovely mixture of very tasty sandwiches for the adults and separate ones for the children, the array of scrummy cakes were second to non , the tea was plentiful, there were also chocolate dipped strawberries , the child's cakes which were also on a separate stand were thoughtfully selected for their ages , they also got a premium cold drink of their choice. I have been to Dobbies for a meal may times. I don’t think I’ll rush back after yesterday’s visit. Both my husband and myself ordered the ham egg and chips for lunch. The chips were nice and freshly cooked. The ham was plentiful but lacked and semblance of taste. The eggs ..... what can I say ? Totally solid with pools of cooking oil in them, crispy edges and solid yolks. Totally unpalatable, I’m sure they had been cooked for the breakfast menu and reheated to serve at lunch. Not very nice at all. Sorry Dobbies but I won’t return even for a sweet treat. The lemon frangipane tart yesterday flew from my plate twice as the pastry was so tough and Lemon ? By no stretch of the imagination did I even detect a hint of lemon.

We visited here a couple of months ago and had such a nice afternoon tea that we re-booked to come again, but we weren't so happy this time. The menu has changed, but sadly not for the better. On our first visit we had a choice of beautiful sandwich fillings, which were really tasty and served with no crusts cut into fingers. This time the sandwiches were quite ordinary, egg, plain cucumber, tinned ham (?) and cut into rough triangles with the crusts still on. I know that this does not affect the taste of the food, but presentation, especially of an afternoon tea is quite important. On our first visit we were offered speciality coffees such as cappuccino or latte etc, this time it was filter coffee and a pot of milk. The range of cakes had also been changed, not for the better, they were quite 'samey' and a bit bland. The scones were nice and the brownies were OK, but maybe something more special was missing... Overall the tea still represented good value for money, although I believe we did get a discount when we booked, but it seems quite obvious that the menu changes have been made to represent cost-cutting for the restaurant and not improvements to the experience for the customers.

Dobbies cafe does fantastic scones, they have plain, fruit and cheese when a lot of cafes only have fruit, unfortunately the clotted cream pots are very small so you may want to grab two or three. It was quite late when we went and every table needed clearing! We chose a table for two and cleared it ourselves, not really sure if this was a one off or if the staff are badly managed. The dirty tables are the reason this is a four and not a five.

There was only one member of staff on the tills with a queue forming and holding a tray with was heavy and uncomfortable and to top it off had to wait 35mins for a sandwich and toastie, which in the mean time we had drank our tea. I did complain and were told they'd a rush of customers who wanted sandwiches, so I asked if we could have a fresh cup of tea in which the manager didn't hesitate to give us. I think they need more staff making the sandwiches which there was only one person and two people on the tills at all times and sort out a better system. I queued for what was an unnessarily long time to order due to there only being one member of staff serving. The rest of the staff looked to be more interested in socialising with each other. When I ordered the Afternoon Tea for Two, I was informed that I would need to give one days notice although the advert said nothing about giving notice. Very disappointed.I suspect that the local staff may have imposed this condition and it is not company policy. The company need to either ensure that such things do not happen, or that their adverts state any conditions. We will not be back until this Garden Centre mends its ways. However our table was full with our used crockery which hadn't been cleared away (we actually hadn't seen any staff clearing tables all the time we were there and the restaurant wasn't too busy). it was no problem to load crockery on a tray which I did but I was unable to see a place where it could be stored so I took it to the counter where meals are ordered and explained the situation to the lady behind the counter and asked if It was ok to leave it there to which she replied 'not really but yes' in a very unhelpful manner. Apart from one very helpful young man this seemed to be the general staff attitude. Was disappointed on the day at 10 am (2 hours before time booked) to receive a call saying could we push time back as the person that took booking had booked this earlier than they usually serve and it would be awkward for them I couldn't change time as friends were travelling down for this. They said we would have to bear with them and it could be served late. This did annoy me a little as nothing was said at time of booking or when I contacted them this weekend to confirm as I had booked it I felt responsible, having said that the wait was not too long and friends enjoyed it though I didn't enjoy it so much due to the mix up by their staff.

The girls were lovely who were running the event and made sure my family sat together as there were 6 adults and 4 children. Santa was just perfect. We were lucky to get the same one as last year. We will be definitely booking to come again next Christmas Eve!My only suggestions would be, maybe breakfast brought to our tables as santa came to our table while half the party were queuing for breakfast. Not a major problem but would of preferred it if we were all round the table for when he arrived and then once breakfast is finished plates could be collected straight away or even a trolley that we could put them on ourselves. Please don't take this as moaning though as we still loved it and will be coming back.

Booked the Luxury Afternoon Tea as a birthday gift for my friend. Table was ready when we arrived, and we were given a choice of bread and sandwich fillings. We started with our Prosecco, and were quickly presented with our food. Bread was very fresh and finger sandwiches well filled. Only suggestion would be to do 4 of each instead of 3. (We did cut the odd ones in half) Lovely selection of cakes, and scones with jam and clotted cream completed the feast. With unlimited pots of tea to wash it down, it was perfect.Been many times for tea and cake. Never disappointed.

First of all a reserved table for afternoon tea, right at the front of the restaurant, so every one walks past eyeing up everything u have, would have liked to have had the option of another table. Kids afternoon tea was a good amount for the money but the pictures of the afternoon tea looks nothing like you get, picture shows a girl drinking out of a cute Mason jar with milkshake, but what you get is a Capri sun or a coke in a carton. Adult afternoon tea was ok, nothing special but it was cheap compared to some, but if you want something special go elsewhere and pay extra. No jam with the scones so I asked for some and was directed to pots for 45p on the counter, it was on the advertising with jam, I just paid for it rather than go back to the girl I asked. Overall did I enjoy it, yes because it was a rare afternoon out for nan, mom and daughter, but would I go back, no I wouldn't.

Visit this restaurant regularly as there are always tables available and no one minds how long you stay. The food is usually good the cakes and scones are delicious and there is something for everyone. The staff are friendly and helpful. I feel sorry for the staff as it seems to be company policy to get away with as little staff as possible therefore everyone multi tasks and tables do go uncleared for long periods of time. The toilets are in need of a refurbishment but are generally clean. The rest of the store is worth looking around also.

My husband and I stopped here to have a bit of lunch. Found the menu to be very limited but opted for a jacket potato each. I had tuna, husband had beans. My tuna was very bland. Jackets were small. No side salad. Lots of dirty tables with crockery all over. VERY RUDE STAFF, couldnt even raise a smile. Overpriced too!! We ended up needing a snack shortly after as jackets were too small. May be more of a tea & cake place

Wanted to stop off for breakfast while traveling south on M6.This was a good choice as a short drive off the motorway and far nicer surroundings than a standard motorway services. We had a large 7 item breakfast with which came with toast and it was less than £4 per head although there was an additional charge for drinks.Visited mid morning and it was very quiet although during Easter (school) holiday period.Friendly staff , clean restaurant and nicely cooked food to order.A good choice.

We were met by a very unfriendly member of staff when served with our tea. Went over to pay no staff around to serve us eventually paid and found our table .Then approached by a member of staff and told these tables were taken... but no offer to move our tea tray. What happened to customer service?! Looking round at least 12 tables needed clearing. Finally I tucked in to cream scone which was frozen in middle! Millionares shortbread was incredibly bland .Shall not be returning!!

Popped in here whilst passing and thought we would have a relaxing coffee and cake.It was late afternoon and were surprised to see the upstairs food area very busy and very noisy. After trying to find a cleared table, in vain, we decided that this was not for us and to move on elsewhere after a look round the centre. Also agree that the washroom facilities were in need of some freshness.

We stopped here because we were passing by. We did contemplate having some refreshments but, because it was Sunday lunchtime, we found the restaurant was far too busy with virtually no spare tables. Consequently, we looked around the rest of the complex which sells a multitude of items, only a few of which are in any way associated with gardening. We were also rather disappointed with the standard of cleanliness in the toilets (the gents smelt particularly odious) which also affected our decision not to eat here.

I met a friend here for tea and cake . There was a large selection of delicious delights for us to choose from and my earl grey tea one of the nicest I've tried ( sadly they don't sell it in the garden centre - I asked )I find the restaurant lacks something , I'm not sure what it is but it seems to feel a little soul less .Apart from that it was all fine .The staff were friendly and chatty ,

We called at the garden centre and decided to have a coffee in the restaurant. What struck us was the apathy of the staff and what would appear to be low moral. No smiles, just sullen faces! The level of hygiene was also a lot to be desired. The staff were provided with caps with hairnets but one member of staff's hair was just hanging around her face which was very off putting. We ordered 2 cappuccions at £2.65 but unfortunately they were both only luke warm and lacked any coffee taste - very mediocre. Won't be returning to this cafe.

Whilst I appreciate they had just had a coach stop off, The dirties were still on the tables from the time I purchased my Latte to when I left 30 minutes later. There seemed to be no staff on duty, no leadership, no enthusiasm. The Chef with dirty whites actually serving on the till taking money, and also plating up - not very hygienic.Overall very disappointed with the overall enthusiasm and customer service standards of staff. The carpet was filthy.

Clean and comfortable with a wide range of good basic confectionery and hot and cold dishes served by pleasant and helpful staff at competitive prices This is a useful easy to find meeting place but could be crowded and noisy in school holidays..Despite the ample and free parking does not lend itself to leisurely meals or meetings rather a quick chat ,brisk shopping and pass on

Checked out cafes and pubs in this area for a stop-off on motorway journey down south and this is the only one I could find with a 5 star Food Hygiene rating (called Planters Cafe, Dobbies Garden World at Gailey). It is clean and airy with new furniture etc. The Vegetable Lasagne was £7.25 with the 2 meat options at £7.45. But opted for sandwiches - Tuna & mayo and a Cheese at £4.10 each, pot of tea @ £1.95 and a Regular Filter Coffee @ £2.10 with a packet of crisps @ 80p and a Large Cream Cake @ £2.95 (and it was large - I hope you can just make it out in the photo). Would definitely go again and only 1.6 miles (3 minutes) from the M6 (junction 12) - beats a motorway service station any day.

Visited the restaurant at this garden centre for afternoon tea. Great value at £15.00 for 2. This included selection of finger sandwiches, choice of fillings, scones with jam and large pot of clotted cream, selection of cakes (big enough to share), fresh strawberries and chocolate covered strawberries and unlimited tea or coffee. Served at table-clothed tables in allocated area. Friendly staff, prompt service, lovely food, great value.

Saturday 8th July. Had planned a trip especially from north wales. Always been on my bucket list. Checked website and Facebook page. Sorry to hear about the break in. Information stated should be open again 6th or 7th July. Tried to phone before visit to check if open. No answer. Should've been open 8th but no updates or information. Arrived at 12:15. Five cars parked by locked gate. Nobody knew What was happening. Walked down the lane. Fantastic house. Unfortunatly we had a wasted trip. Blackboard outside 'closed until further notice' people arriving after us who we informed they were closed. Had we known we wouldn't have wasted a journey.

I popped in here after a walk over Kinver Edge because I needed to pass the time waiting for my bus. It's a friendly pub with a good atmosphere and good beer. I didn't have any food this time, but as it was my first visit to the area I will be back next time. A lovely place to stop off and wind down, I highly recommend it.

Popped for lunch after dog walking. A good selection of choices on the menu and a lovely atmosphere in this canalside pub. Dogs are welcome - there's a couple of dog-free areas as well - and this makes a good spot for refreshments (or more) after walking along the canal towpath. We'll definitely be back!
