We enjoyed the eight course taster menu with friends. Each course was delicious and beautifully presented. The octopus was my personal favourite! Amazing! All the staff were warm and welcoming and clearly love their work. The whole experience was first class. A real pleasure!

We were a party of six who enjoyed the seven course tasting menu in the separate dining room. Every detail was beyond our expectations. The service was perfect and each course was a masterpiece in both presentation and flavours in its own right.

Second visit, this place is an exceptional dining experience the restaurant is professionally relaxed yet extraordinarily exquisite. The 7 course taster menu includes courses that are incredibly tasty and courses that display immense passion and innovative chef skills. If you are local and interested in top league food you just must go. If you’re anywhere else in the country and you like to experience food at its best with a team that care about what they do, book now! If you want a romantic night they cater for that but if you want to witness the heart and soul of the guys cooking the food take the chefs table. Each and every member of the team will talk you through every course in intricate detail. They offer a superb wine flight to go with the meal which we have done and it’s well thought out and works incredibly well, however you should talk through the wine list as an alternative because they source wines with equal passion so you’re going to have the option of something very special! This team are delivering food comparable to the best you will experience anywhere in the country, and they are doing it out of sheer passion! Support them, book now. Lunch for their new menu. Why has this become our most visited restaurant over the past year? We booked for their lunchtime service to be one of the first to try the tasting menu. Or should that be tasty menu? Kicking off with a couple of snacks. Then, liver - onion,served by a Zebra. Which is still on,thankfully. Bread & butter prepared by Max,the youngest of the chef's team. Then,starts the procession of the most devine dishes. Next up was Octopus.Oh my word.Quite possibly the best dish. But we've only just started. How could that be beaten? Followed by a refreshing Halibut ceviche with Tom Yum and very,very tasty tomatoes. Another returning course.Tuna-Aubergine-Parmesan. No ordinary tuna dish.It's made to resemble a moussaka and has become one of their signatures. This is lip smackingly gorgeous and a firm favourite. Next, is what you could say, are the main courses. Plaice-seaweed-mussel-scallop, served with a delicious damshi sauce. There is a meat dish of Rabbit-Carrot-Pancetta. Which is too short of a description for what could be the star of the show, if you twisted our arm. And last but not least, two exquisite desserts. Strawberry-elderfower-vanilla and Raspberry-white chocolate-tarragon. Well, you do need your fruit. To completely finish us off,so to speak. A lovely peice of cheese drizzled with honey and served with malt bread. Why is this our most visited restaurant? We have been extremely lucky to dine at some of the top restaurants around the country and like to think we know talent when we see it. These young chefs are on the path to great careers. With an excellent front of house.

A wonderful evening from start to finish. Playlist great to create a nice relaxing evening of fabulous food and wine. Everyone willing to talk with us, explaining wines and foods, all of which were outstanding. Well done guys, can’t wait to visit for the next menu.

If you live anywhere around Doncaster then a visit to The Gentleman Fishmonger (plus there are some great fruit, veg and butchers stalls in the market) followed by lunch at DN1 is a fab day out. You have a choice of the dining room, the chef’s bench or a stool at the wine bar. We hadn’t booked but Martyn (fish man) rang ahead whilst we were buying fish and reserved us 2 seats at the bar. They do a small (5) or large (8) tasting menu or lighter food at the wine bar. We had oysters, a grazing board and 2 outstanding wines (Albariño and Appassimento). The deli (all in same building) is out of this world - cheese, meat, dry goods, bottles, jars, pasta, spices - it’s an Aladdin’s cave. The team are so friendly (Martyn, Sarah, Alex and Tom all looked after us so well). Great foody day out Spaghetti Vongole for tea tonight then bouillabaisse tomorrow 🙃

Came for lunch with my son and we both thought the restaurant was terrific with knockout food and surely heading for a Michelin star - in fact already much better than a certain starred restaurant in Hetton and a rather pretentious 2 star restaurant in Cartmel. What's more you have friendly staff who know their stuff rather than snooty ones who have to check with chef. It was great to be able to get a couple of glasses of super wine without having to buy the bottle, and we appreciated the proportionate, rather than extortionate, pricing. For the food - I would particularly like to praise the onion macaron which was sensational and the shrimp course. Both were exceedingly clever as well as beautiful to look at and great to taste. You can be assured that I will be back with anyone I can bring with me to dine! It is fantastic to have such a brilliant restaurant not far from where I live, and exceeding anything available in Leeds. Well done!!

We visited DN1 with my parents to treat them to a tasting menu as they have never tried one before. The experience from start to finish was amazing! The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Alex and Tom in particular were great, they were very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. Every course was absolutely delicious - one of our favourites was the savoury macaroon that was part of the ‘snacks’ course - it was a taste sensation! We didn’t go for the wine pairing and instead opted for a couple of nice bottles which were recommended and again, absolutely delicious! My parents were more than happy with our visit and we have all said that we will definitely go back. We love nice food and have tried many tasting menus over the years and this is definitely up there! We have recommended to friends who have already booked. Great to have such a lovely restaurant so close to us!

Wonderful seafood experience, the taste, textures and presentation blew our heads. We did the 8 course taster sat in the dining area- very pleasant but next time will do chefs table. They recommended to allow 3 hours however it was a little more than that- probs my only feedback was some of the courses had more waiting time than others. We did not go for wine pairing as one of us was driving. Tom was very accommodating to serve wine by the glass rather than a full bottle. All staff very friendly and the chefs did a great job of talking us through each course. Well done Doncaster- will be back at the chefs table soon

DN1 Absolute dining experience We sat at the high stools with wonderful company watching the chefs work there culinary magic in a mesmerising art form which in its self was a real treat The food was amazing every single course being an overall taste sensation The staff were very attentive & thoughtful This restaurant we cannot recommend highly enough we will return .

We have been part of the journey that the chefs and staff have gone through since their conception. This restaurant never fails to please, raises the bar a notch every time, and we absolutely love it. Took my wife for her birthday, there’s no finer place to go! Thank you!

From the welcome to goodbye everything was perfect . We were greeted by Tom and Alex , our chosen aperitif soon followed and we settled down with the menu . We enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu with additional option of cheese . Each delicious course was described by the chefs , we left the wine pairings to Tom who poured and advised . The atmosphere is jovial and relaxed , service unhurried and efficient .

What a great little place. Had the five course taster menu and wine pairing and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The food was incredible and more than enough, but the wine, it was amazing. If you haven't been you need to go. Incredible to have such a place near home.

The food was superb, the staff were wonderful, there's a great little deli there, most of the experience was great except it was ridiculously cold! We did a wine pairing taster menu of 5 courses, slightly confused as it wasn't 5 courses, it was 4 with an amuse-bouche and bread, which were fabulous but not sure they count as a 'course' I wouldn't do the wine pairing again as we got barely half a small glass each time.... I realise you don't get a full glass as its a pairing but I would expect at least 90/100mls which we were not getting. We did have some lovely wines though, in future I'd suggest not doing the wine pairing but ordered a bottle instead Really lovely food, compliments to the chef, however we felt the wine pairing didn't quite hit the mark

Last Saturday Eve we went to dinner at Delicatessen & Dining Room by The Gentleman Fishmonger. Rather than sitting at the chefs bench we booked a table in the smaller dining room are by the window. A space painted black with a velvet bench type seats along the wall and window with colourful scattered velvet cushions. We had opted to have the 8 course tasting menu for £89 we could have had the wine flight for another £89 but decided to have a glass of champagne each followed by a bottle of Macon Lugny at £44 from the extensive wine list. The meal commenced with a snack a course which back in the day was called an amuse bouche and for one of the little morsels on the plate it was definitely an amuse bouche as it so amused the mouth with its mix of flavours! This came in the form of a sweet and savoury macaron which was stuffed full with a delicious chicken parfait, the macaron case had a taste of onion, I loved this so much I would have loved to have bought half a dozen to take home with me! The next course was bread which was served with prawn, crayfish and butter. What we actually got was a small homemade bagel and a prawn and crayfish type of mousse with a butter gel glaze. It was actually a delicious take on potted shrimp. This was then followed by a fish dish which consisted of slithers of a cerviche of hamachi, a sustainable fish from the Indian Ocean layered with pineapple and dotted with wasabi. A vegan carrot dish was next, the carrot was soaked overnight in a teriyaki sauce which was then reduced down to a glaze this was then served over a bed of spelt. The snapper dish which we then had was my second favourite dish of the night, nothing can top the macaron! This was with a lovely nutty risotto and kale. The nuttiness was from an addition of candied walnuts. The main course then arrived, we chose to have the salmon curry but could have upgraded for an extra £10 to the venison. This was a perfectly cooked piece of crispy skinned salmon and a curry with cauliflower bhaji, topped with shards of poppadom and a curl of kohlrabi. At this point we had finished our bottle of wine, and as the pudding courses were next we decided to have a glass each of the Riesling wine as recommended by Tom the Sommelier. This went perfectly with the pre pudding pud of a base of rhubarb and blood orange topped with a custard of rice pudding, again another little pot of deliciousness! The final dish on the menu was a slice of a perfectly layered coffee and chocolate opera cake with a quenelle of creamy pine nut ice cream. We shared the cheese plate for 2 which was a beautifully ripe Baron Bigod cheese, this is an English take on Brie de Mieux and a blue cheese from Leeds. Served with an oatcake and home made malt loaf a perfect pairing. We had a lovely evening and quite forget we were sat overlooking the car park at Doncaster Market! We had excellent service the entire evening by Tom and Alex the front of house who brought each course to the table accompanied by the talented young chefs who had produced this amazing menu and who gave us a brief description of each dish we were served. The dinner for both of us came to £268.

Our most recent visit was one of the very best menus and with an ever improving interior and the same great team now with a great new additional front of house member, this visit was so great we are coming back in two weeks to do it all over again but with different friends. Can’t wait, just need trip advisor to add the button for ten 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We visited this wonderful place last night. The service and food was exceptional. The menu was fabulous. I don't really eat fish but I enjoyed every single course. I highly recommend even if you are not into fish. The flavours are amazing and the wine and drink pairing were also great too.. we were made to feel extremely welcome. We will be visiting again soon. 10/10

What a find, we are so lucky to have this incredible resturant in our City, forget London, Leeds and Manchester DN1 are putting Doncaster on the culinary map. Marcus and his team work so hard to put together these incredibly delicious plates of food. We sat at the chefs bench and you can see them in action. Tom hosted us his expert wine knowledge kept our glasses full for the duration. Sarah the Hostess and owner of the resturant and Deli is so friendly and chatty rightfully proud of what her and her team have achived. It was great to walk around the deli too after our meal and pick up some really special meats and cheeses - i will not be buying that supermarket mass produced rubbish anymore! Thank you for making our saturday super special we can not wait to return

Simply fabulous. Great welcome on arrival and seated for a drink before our table was ready. The wine selection was extensive enough without being overwhelming. Some great choices at relatively good value. Don’t expect £20 supermarket wines, this is a well curated selection of excellent quality, so expect to pay for what you are getting. But equally nothing felt out of reach. Our white Rioja was sublime. The chef’s bench was excellent. Feeling part of the kitchen and seeing the artistry delivered by everyone involved. I was amazed how calm and controlled the kitchen was. Like a well oiled machine. The food was fabulous. Every single course stood out on its own merit with twists and surprises aplenty. It feels unfair to single out a single dish when every one delivered so amazingly on flavour and presentation but I have to say the Snapper was my favourite and was devine. The service, food and overall experience is as good as I have experienced. And that includes 1 and 2 star restaurants. Well done to Marcus and his team. Can’t wait to go back.

It’s a new menu so it was time to pop back for another visit and all I can say is that it just gets better every time. We sat at the chefs bench and watched it all going on and as usual we have a bit of banter with the chefs. For anyone considering a taster menu like this or just want something different from the usual normal restaurants then you really need to just jump right in, book and come to enjoy the absolutely amazing food and buzzing atmosphere. We’ve been coming here since it opened, I’ve seen it grow to where it is now and I have to say that the drive by everyone involved in bringing this culinary masterclass to life is awe inspiring to watch. Every course just teases my taste buds for the next dish and I can hand on heart say that every dish is amazing to look at and just as amazing to taste. It was that good that I genuinely cannot pick a favourite. If you are genuinely wanting to have an amazing dining experience but don’t have to be dressed like you’re going to a west end show, in a relaxing warm and friendly environment then look no further than DN1.

At last Doncaster has a top class fine dining restaurant. The food is interesting, different and delicious. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable and charming. We wish them every success as now we don’t have to drive for an hour to enjoy food of this quality. An added bonus is the attached delicatessen which has seen something of a transformation. It has always been fascinating to browse there, but now it has been tidied up and looks more appealing than ever.

What a treat! This was some of the best food I've ever eaten. A fabulous 5 course tasting menu, excellent choice of quality wines and impeccable service. Alongside this is the deli...utter magnificence! If you can't find what you're looking here, it doesn't exist. The cheese counter is something else...truly wonderful! What a gem that Doncaster has! The food was so very good and presented with style. Each course was delightful and at times unexpected. The service was vey good. The sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful without any pretensions. That was the feel of the whole restaurant! The chefs explained each dish. The owners were present and it was lovely to hear the back story of the concept and the team and how they chose the wine. It’s an extensive wine list!I’d highly recommend the 8 course tasting menu with paired wines. Do allow time to savour the experience as advised.We will definitely be back!

Today we enjoyed our latest visit to this wonderful place and yet again had a fantastic time. The consistently first class service coupled with the best ingredients and the most imaginative menus makes every visit special. What a little cracker of an evening we had at DN1. Sensational food, exciting and inspiring wines on the refined and sophisticated chef’s bench. Just to make it even more perfect, all the staff had great hair.

I feel lucky🍀Why? Because we’ve been and we’ve tried it at this stage of their journey. At risk of sounding dramatic, this young Team of skilled chefs, from our very local area, with the support of passionate, empowering mentors, have created a menu and dining experience so good, that we couldn’t have been prepared for what we were served. Take the freshest produce of the highest quality and allow menu development, skill, (inspiration taken from sending these young men on culinary excursions where they get to sample the finest for themselves) and if you’ve got the understanding, vision and the right people, then this is what can happen. From the very start, the “snacks” let you know that you’re in for a treat: after being prepared in front of you with such meticulous skill, they’re yours to cherish for a few seconds before you have to eat them, best whole and not nibbled. At this point you want to say to the Team - stop 🛑- cancel the 8 courses and give me twenty of these, but of course you can’t and you wouldn’t. The courses start to follow and each one delivers on flavour first, backed up by impressive plating, amazing quality and little surprises throughout, adding theatre and enhancing it even further. Take Crab:Chilli:Sausage for example - spread a shellfish butter on a home made mini crumpet and then open your tin of layered crab mousse, Chinese sausage and perfectly picked white crab and spread it liberally on top. This dish is at risk of being the nicest thing I’ve eaten. And I’ve eaten. I knew the scallop and cod dishes were going to be impressive, and for sure they were. The Thai red curry a welcome curve ball at this stage - continuing the clever use of Asian ingredients to add punch and clout. The cod loin was lightly cured and rolled before being pan fried in brown butter, offering the biggest flakes of translucent fish you could wish for. But then being served alongside the humble cheek, and a crisp fritter again adding new dimensions to the dish. Desserts were equally impressive in that they cleansed first, and indulged you second. The sort of meal that puts a smile on your face. A special occasion venue worth the £. If you can, go!

This visit was not my first time dining at DN1 and certainly won’t be my last. It’s wonderful to finally have a fine dining option in Doncaster, I’m used to having to travel for this level of quality. Being closer to home allowed me and my friend to fully relax and enjoy the taster menu, which allowed us to take our time and embraced the experience without feeling rushed. We sat at the chefs table, which made it personal, having each dish presented and explained in detail by the chef. Each dish was clearly made with the finest ingredients and all of the courses were fantastic, making it difficult to choose a favourite. I highly recommend DN1 and look forward to my next visit. 😊 Thank you to all of the DN1 team!

Lunch Delicatessen & Dining Room by The Gentleman Fishmonger Tasting menu. Where's the first place you think of for fine dining,chefs, bench, excellent food, and service? Doncaster? Surely not? We've been following the progress of this restaurant and chefs since its conception. It's located inside of Yorkshires' finest deli. You can choose to dine in their cosy restaurant by the windows or on the chefs bench. Menu options are 3 courses £39, 5 course £64 or the full tasting menu £89,which we chose obviously. On arrival, you are greeted by the very curtious Tom Lister, who is front of house. We were seated at the chefs on the bench on very comfy stools,which is like having front row seats to your favourite show. There's no forgetting who the head chef is Marcus_ashton_simpson , he's got his name up in lights at the entrance. How many young chefs have got that? Who is assisted by rising star Oska Ready. Once Tom has plied you with some very nice wine,the show begins with a couple of very tasty snacks. The menu is predominantly fish, which is all supplied by their very own The Gentleman Fishmonger Tuna - blackberry - anchovy Mackerel - sweetcorn - clam Bread course Crab - Chilli - Sausage Scallop - Thai red - Tomato COD served three ways. There is an optional cheese course,but as it's lunchtime, we didn't want to overdo it. They have got a cheese counter in the deli so you can always take a selection to enjoy at home. Pre- dessert Raspberry-Whisky-Oats Dessert Yoghurt - Honey - Lemon. We could not possibly pick a favourite dish,but if you twisted our arm, it would have to be the Crab. It's got to be the tastiest and most moorish Crab dish we've ever served to us. Everything about this venue is a food lovers paradise. The staff are all friendly and offer the best customer service and make you feel so welcome. So get yourselves to Donny for some incredible, creative food before the guides and Jay Rayner catch on.

It really is just an exceptional dining experience!! It’s fine dining at its best. An absolutely great atmosphere and the interaction of the chefs is amazing to see - no shouting/swearing they just work together with the more experienced chefs explaining to the younger less experienced chefs. It’s just fantastic to see!!! The food has always been exceptional to the point where we’ve invited friends to join us and they felt exactly the same. If you want exclusive fine dining and in a friendly environment you just need to book and see for yourself!! ** if you’re vegetarian, let them know and they’ll adapt the menu to suit, one of our party was vegetarian and absolutely loved the food too** Do you like wine? Add the wine tasting!!
