Absolutely fantastic food and what fantastic people. We’ve visited Hertford for the weekend and was overwhelmed by the hospitality that we were shown by the owners. Totally recommended.

Should have learnt my lesson last time but I thought I’d give them another go, really shouldn’t have though! 40 minutes late after being told over the phone it was on its way! Food turned up luke warm at best and was terrible. Two chicken bhuna’s which were just lumps of chicken and a piece of tomato in the blandest, thinnest, watery sauce! This place has really gone downhill for takeaways, terrible service, terrible food, will not be using again!

A group of eleven of us visited The Spice Hut and thoroughly enjoyed the tasty range of herbs and spices in our meals. The restaurant was busy but the service was excellent and friendly. This is a little gem in the centre of Hertford and certainly warrants a visit

Always loved this place when it was Dil's. First time eating from here since it's changed hands. Beautiful, tasty, well spiced food. Not heavy on oil and ghee like a lot of places. Lovely staff, quick delivery.

Came here as when staying overnight in hertford . 2 couples , we were not disappointed. Had 4 different curries with the usual sides of pilau rice, naan and sag paneer . Everything was delicious and the plates were empty at the end of the meal. Service was quick , all of us would recommend and would visit again! If you like Curry, give it a go .

Excellent food. No wonder the Hut is so busy! Loved the Jalfrezi, both prawn and chicken were nicely spiced.

Make sure you talk to Sani and trust his recommendations, the Indian /Pakistani food is off the scale. 5 star.

Awful service yet again. Second time we’ve ordered a collection, second time they’ve lost it and couldn’t find our order. Worse still the manager lied and said they’d tried to call us twice, we had no missed calls! Bring back the previous owners who knew how to run a restaurant and takeaway service!

Had a lockdown takeaway ordered through Delviroo. Came really quick lovely fresh salad and curry was amazing.

One of the best (or potentially even the best) curry house in Hertford in terms of food quality and flavour. The service was also good with great recommendations from our waiter, Sani. I have eaten in and had takeaway several times since the restaurant was taken over by new owners and every meal has been excellent. Yes they have put up the prices but the food has also improved significantly (and they are still cheaper than other Indians in Hertford). Would highly recommend the Lamb Chettinadu and the hot sizzling Nawabi although I am yet to find a curry on the menu that I haven't enjoyed!

So impressed with the food here. The chefs recommendation was spot on and the quality was fabulous. Well worth a visit.

We are indian lovers and often visit a new restaurant just to try. Never have we matched our local regular until we were staying in Hertford and went to the Spice Hut. It even exceeds our normal restaurant for food quality. It was amazing. Staff brilliant too. It was so good we are driving the hour journey to take our children for a farewell meal b4 older too go back to Uni and for our youngests birthday treat. Cannot recommend it enough. Enjoy.

This evening we visited our favourite restaurant in the county town of Hertford. We’ve been visiting this place for over 25 years now and the quality of the food was excellent as it’s always been. The waiter was attentive yet gave us space to enjoy our food. The food was freshly cooked to order and arrived beautifully presented after a short wait. I thoroughly recommend this place as it’s one of Hertford’s hidden gems!

Had a takeaway delivered a couple of months ago and it was fabulous.Last night I took my wife to the restaurant and was not let down.My wife had a recommended starter Aloo Tikka Chat and I had the usual Onion Bhajee both were gorgeous.Mains we had were the paneer Shashlik and the Chicken Jalfrezi both again cooked fresh and delicious.Have been to many curry houses in both Ware and Hertford but the Spice Hut is head and shoulders above the rest.Cant wait to go back.

Had a great curry with some friends. Our waiter, Sani, was excellent, he was very attentive and fun. Food was excellent.

Sani is a top lad best waiter I’ve had in years. As for the curry, I reckon Jesus’s last supper has a rival. In summary, unbelievable curry, even better people it’s a 5/5 from me.

How can you justify your prices going up so much, A Madras has gone up from £5.45 to £8.45!!!! everything on the menu has gone up by a massive % really can't see how you justify it.

It was a Tuesday and the restaurant was empty - the service was OK - food tasty enough but a little pricey - nothing special though - will try other Indians to compare.

We tried here after great reviews on TripAdvisor but we were quite disappointing. The restaurant was almost empty (one other couple) on a Friday night and the food was ok but nothing to shout about unfortunately.

Absolutely love the food - we’ve eaten in and got takeaways for many years but a 35% increase in price is too much and onion bhajees the size of ping pong balls is insulting (and too crunchy) Will miss you

I went here with a group of my friends not long ago and came away certain not to return. The food was not great, very mediocre. However it was while we paying that we found many of the meals we ordered to have been seemingly deliberately overcharged. One wonders how the staff could have forgotten the prices of each meal, as it states them all very clearly on the menu. It felt like we were deliberately targeted as an opportunity by the staff, being a big group of friends with beers, to overcharge without us noticing. If we had not seen the overcharge on certain meals by remembering the prices on the menu we would have ended up paying considerably more for the final bill. I would be very sceptical of your bill if you dare visit. I would also like to add that the waiter was very slow and provided us with meals that we didn’t order. Just to add to the experience !

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times and the food is good for tonight as I am housebound as I have an illness I decided to order a takeaway. I ordered the takeaway at 7:15 with someone who couldn’t understand English very well and it took ages to get the order through.

Was here on a late Saturday night and the place was practically empty, not a good sign. I felt the staff was rushing us to get our orders in, it wasn’t even nearing closing time. The pompodums were greasy. We had to ask for chutney, it automatically should come with it. I don’t think the chutneys are homemade as I saw big jars of ready made condiments where we sat. I had a veggie vindaloo, it was spicy but hardly any veggies in it just sauce. Naan wasn’t the best. The rice was over cooked and soggy. They weren’t very friendly. Wouldn’t come here again.

We arrived at ~7:30 pm and th eokace was empty. After having the food we can't understand why. Everything without fail was delicious. Prices were also very reasonable and staff were attentive.

Ate here last week, great service and the food was amazing really enjoyed the nan bread. I came with friends they should have more draft beer but the cobra was fine... overall it was good, i will come back

Just enjoyed another great delivery from Dils. Tried a lamb Dhansak for the first time it was amazing! The lamb fell apart in my mouth! My wife enjoyed her lamb madras as well. Shared a rice and had a naan bread each and a couple of popadums all delivered to my door for under £20 within an hour. You can’t go wrong. Dil keep up the good work. Thanks Paul.

We were so dissapointed by this establishment that we walked out, but only after waiting an hour and a half...for our starters. We sat down and waited longer than usual to have our drink order taken, then ordered our meals.

Always accommodate us and treat us like friends, good food and very friendly, we always return every dish is delicious never had a bad one!

3 of us from Enfield, Cheshunt and Hertford meet up every couple of months for a curry night. This time Dils turn for my Hertford night. Not disappointed. Fantastic flavours although we got a strange look when asking for vindaloo sauce to go with our popadum chutneys! This works! Each had lamb dishes including chefs special and Lamb Xhacuti. Mate ordered something off menu which they were happy to do. Defo going back! Thanks Dil

We ordered a takeaway from here at the weekend, wanting to try another Indian restaurant in the area after our usual one went a tad downhill. The food here was excellent, and very well priced too. We tried a couple of new curries as well as our usual favourites, and they were fab.

Have visited Dils several times and have never been let down. Started venturing on to new and untried dishes that come on the recommendation of the manager and staff who are always helpful.

Firstly, when I made my order on the phone, the man on the other end said that my order is too small but then decided he'll deliver anyway. My food was supposed to take an hour but came in 20 minutes. The delivery driver gave me 35p off and the food was lovely and still warm. WOULD RECOMMEND

Possibly the best draught Cobra I’ve ever tasted. The service is impeccable and the food is wonderful - lovely variety in curries and the garlic naan is a treat. It is the best in Hertford if not the county. Good value for money and tasty food.

Food was a bit bland, had to use salt which shouldn’t happen at an Indian restaurant. Lots of pickles, chutneys etc came with the poppadoms.

Been here a couple of times before but a few years back, came again because there were still some decent reviews on TA. Oh my, what a complete disappointment! This was by far the worst curry I've had to date. It was completely tasteless. I ordered a shashlick and I've had them so many times before, full of flavour, heat and spices. This was covered with red food dye and grilled, there wasn't a hint of flavour at all. As for other dish, we actually asked for it to upgraded to "hot" as opposed to medium. And although this one did have a pleasant flavour, there was nothing to make it spicier at all, it was also luke warm and the chicken had been precooked and therefore hard.

From some of the reviews I was a little reserved about it being amazing, but I was quickly proven wrong. The food was all hot (temperature), tasty and really good value. Great menu which lots of variety, nice decor and very friendly accommodating service. Definitely reccommend the King Prawn starter, as well as the naan breads, onion bahji's and lamb koftas - those things were all exceptional. We will definitely be returning.

Well presented eating area and a menu with a wide range of Indian food. The food we ordered was perfectly seasoned to everyone's individual taste. Good selection of wine and beer too.

El domingo ordinario una vez más Buffet en Dils resultó ser un cambio desde nuestra costumbre Domingo, y disfrutamos mucho de la elección de 9 platos a un precio muy razonable de £9. 95. Cenamos aquí a menudo y nunca nos ha decepcionado. Recomiendo encarecidamente este restaurante.

Nuestra primera visita a este restaurante y no estábamos seguros de cuando entramos y se sentó. Pero nos quedamos gratamente sorprendidos por el personal amable y eficiente, y la comida era muy buena. Sólo mirar más allá de los alrededores y disfrutar de la comida!

Fuimos a probar el buffet Dils Domingo razonable de 8 libras. 95 por persona para todo lo que pueda comer. La selección fue llenando regularmente y el personal era muy atento. Es un sitio de paso obligado para una alternativa el almuerzo de domingo.

This family friendly restaurant is just brilliant. The food is amazing and good value for money, the staff are excellent. Great selection of traditional dishes as well as some not so well known. Love eating at this place, the staff are friendly and welcoming, best Indian in town.

We often get an order delivered from Dills, and the service is always excellent, food delicious, and delivered promptly, even when an England game is on!Last night i asked for the chef to make us an authentic Goan vindaloo that was not just burn your head off fire.What arrived was one of the most delicious indian dishes i have ever had. It was a fiery vindaloo but also sour, sweet and incredibly flavoursome.Heavenly hell in every mouthful!!Can't wait till the next time.

I visited Dils as a group of four and then another person joined us late. We were placed at a table right next to the only other table in the whole restaurant, in the corner. The waiters were rude and awkward, especially when addressing the person who arrived later than the rest of us. She asked for a large coke but wasn't eating (the rest of us were eating) and the waiters weren't keen to serve her because of this. The restaurant was basically empty. Food was average but overall experience wasn't comfortable.

Hadn't been here for years so thought we'd give it a go, sadly we didn't really enjoy our food. It was nothing out of the ordinary and mine was cold and the chapati was stale and tough. The service was extremely slow, given that it wasn't that busy and we had to wait quite a while even to give our order. Wine was good and coffee too, but didn't like little packets of creamer and sugar - more like a cheap cafe than a restaurant. It's all upstairs so not very accessible and the toilets, although clean enough had clearly seen better days. Sadly we shall not be going back any time soon.

Booked a table and had to wait for one to become available.We ordered drinks and they took ages to arrive - if that was not bad enough we finally managed to get someone to take our food order and this took even longer to arrive. To be fare, once the food did eventually arrive it was generally Ok, but some of the chicken was over done and chewy.Took ages for us to get the bill.To cap it all the toilets were disgusting. Just on this point alone I would think twice about going back to this restaurant again.

The restaurant accommodated eight of us without a booking on a busy Bank Holiday weekend. Good food. Nice atmosphere.

I've tried the rest but stuck with the best. I find Dil's curries a lot less greasy that the normal curry houses in Hertford. Good delivery service and a friendly experience when dining in.

We popped in here as we knew people that had been and said good things, we wanted a change to our normal Indian. In fairness it was a poor choice, from our initial entrance it appeared the staff were less than interested, There many little niggles through the meal, none in fairness that we brought up, but the food was not great at all the chicken in the dishes had been so over cooked some of the other dishes appeared to taste very grainy as if the spices had not be cooked off properly.

I don't think I've ever had bad food here, always nicely cooked, good value, sometimes staff are a little off, not always very friendly, that's the only downside. Have been a few times now and great for families, couples or crowds.. nice decor even though I normally hate orange, has a relaxing ambience..

A private dinner with a lovely atmosphere at Dils. Food great, staff professional and helpful in just the right measures. Generous portions and wonderful delicious food. Loved it and would highly recommend it.

Had a nice meal, though not quite to my tastes as the chief was from Bangladesh his flavours were not what I am use too.It was cheap and the portion size reflected the cost, in general OK but i go ealse wher on my next visit to Hertford in June.

Ate there last night with 4 friends and everyone felt the same. The wide choice of the menu was very good as was the quality of the food and service. When the bill arrived we were all surprised at the low cost.The only reason its not a 6 star was the broken tiles in the gents and the entrance hall colours. They could do something to improve the the very garish colours as you walk in but overall the ambiance was typical Indian restaurant, I would not go there for a special occasion of any sort but for a decent meal out after a drink in Hertford its great.

Been here several times before, and have always found the service, food and price to be very good! Service was still as good as ever, but was disappointed to find the prawns were a bit mushy! Didn't think much of it at the time, but had to take a day off work the morning after due to crippling stomach pain and nausea! I also found that the food was a little bland compared to before! A real shame, hopefully things will return to the standard I came to expect before!

Went Sat evening service extremely slow seemed to concentrate more on take away . However when food did arrive it was lovely freshly cooked. staff nice . Would definitely recommend to anyone.

The food was nothing special and it took a long time to come out and there was not even that many people in there, we were charged a lot for what we had, and we did not get our change back when we paid £10 more that what they were charging us.

Visited with my friends a couple of weeks ago, one of them has never had curry but I kept telling him how much he'd enjoy it. So glad to say we weren't disappointed. Massive portions, lovely taste, the guys who work there are always really attentive. One just can't go wrong with this place, love it!

The food was decent, the atmosphere ok. There was nothing that i would rate as negative about the place, but at the same time there was nothing that made it exceptional either.

This is our choice of home delivery when we are staying in Hertford. Recommended by family as the best home delivery and it never dissapoints. Always arrives when they say and order is always correct. Food has always been great with a variety menu for all tastes. Delivery drivers are friendly and cheery no matter what the weather is like. Try and enjoy.

The restaurant is upstairs with only a door and sign on the main street could be missed but if you see the Turkish kitchen it's their.....Visited on Saturday night not very busy, but it is post Xmas and it was starting to snow.The service was prompt and efficient, plenty of staff arround order was taken quickly but was brought out a the right pace not all together.(Good Timing)The pickle pots were a little messy never a great sign!The main meals were good best Indian I have had to date in Hertford Town.Price was ok.Only thing that was a real disappointment was the toilets not in great maintenance condition needs some TLC.Will go back again.

I went for the Sunday buffet recently and the food was lovely, there was a wide selection of indian dishes which were all really nice. The restaurant was not very busy at all but I guess thats because it was a Sunday afternoon.

Came here in late December for a quick bite to eat with 4 friends. Being about 6.30 we were seated with no problems... Gradually the restaurant filled up so probably wise to book of you go any later. Service was efficient and friendly. Dils offers good selection of food. Would definitely visit again.

After reading all the good reviews we had high hopes - the highest achievement of this venue were the stairs we climbed.My partner and I were both excited to see thali on the menu and so we both ordered the Lamb Rogan Thali, now a good thali should be like a tapas or a mezze, a selection of small dishes complementing the main choice and with a small bowl of rice.This being an "authentic" indian we had hopes for fresh fragrant and colourful dishes - what arrived was as my partner describes " possibly as bad as a thali could be" just two accompaniments to a bland bowl of tomato and a few lamb cubes. It was tasteless, lacking any spices or seasoning. The accompanying potatoes were equally plain, the onion bhaji was a pale excuse for the real thing and the rice was far too large a portion for the sorrowful offerings surrounding it.Without a hint of an apology the waiting staff asked if we'd ever eaten an Indian before.....and that was "this is how they prepare it here" needless to say we sent both plates back and left. Mercifully we discovered there is an excellent alternative restaurant right next door serving fresh, well prepared, and most importantly, food with flavour.

Dils is pleasantly decorated in a modern style.We had the mixed starters and the Tandoori lamb chop, which were all excellent. found the food was very nice. The mains were also very good. I particularly liked the Lamb Xacuti, but my wife found it too hot. The one disappointment was both the vanilla and the chocolate ice cream had run out.The service was mostly good, but it was not speedy. We arrived just after 6:00 and we did not get our starters until 7:00.I would definitely recommend Dils. as long as you have plenty of time for a leisurely meal.

Having read some of the reviews, only those who understand the true authentic and non commercial ingredients of Indian Cuisine will appreciate Dils. It was quite ironic to find one reviewer criticise language issues when their own English is academically challenging as they state that when the waiter " bought the bill". That would have been jolly decent of them as they may have "brought" the bill over. Further, being a regular at Dils, there are occasions when the restaurant may be quiet, and yet times when they are extremely busy. However, one will always receive service with a smile. Trust me when my family suggests that this is true Indian authenticity at its finest.......It is. Good value for money, quantity and good chefs will always change things to suit your request of less of an item and more of another ingredient. These are not curries that glow in the dark. Freshly prepared can take longer. The waiter are very patient. Always excellent and welcoming, although I can understand why bollywood TV can be a meal distraction.

We have been getting takeaways from here for over 15 years, we have tried all the other Indians but always come back to Dils. We recently took some friends there for dinner and it was even better then the takeaways. The food is delicious, very fresh and great variety, the staff were really friendly.
