Really good traditional bar. Beers superb and very pleasant/very efficient barmaid. Very welcoming and good at her job. This would be my local if I stayed in Perth.

Me and my wife were visiting from Ayrshire. Called in here on the recommendation from the waitress in The Mexican where we had dinner. Live band on who were pretty good. Very friendly service, friendly regulars. Only downside was my Coke in my Captain Morgans was a bit flat. I had a pint of Goose after that which was spot on. Would reccommend for a good night in the pub.

My wife and I had been away to a wee place outside Dunblane and decided to head somewhere else before coming home. The first pub we came across was Dickens. Popped in with our bags, since we where travelling by train and had a couple of drinks. Discussing it being our first time in Perth, the barman, Frank came over with a map and a good few suggestions of other pubs and places to visit. He then offered to store our bags behind the bar so we didn't have to carry them around. His wife Tina looked after then when the shift changed and was also lovely on our return. Looking forward to another trip to Perth and will definitely be back to Dickens.

Travelled to Perth with my sister and dad last weekend (Saturday to Monday). Stumbled on Dickens on the Saturday afternoon. Had a couple of drinks and seemed a nice friendly place so decided to have a few drinks in here on the Sunday night. Arrived about 8 o'clock. Went through door and as we stepped in the barman announced we're closed. I thought he was joking as there were a few people in the bar but he insisted they were closed so we left. I had checked google before heading out with our elderly dad and it said it was open till 11pm - strange but definitely made to feel unwelcome and no explanation as to why it was closing so early.

Two oldies on the town with our grandaughter, but still young enough to enjoy decent pubs - grandaughter quite impressed. This place is just like the old traditional pubs that ised to grace city centres countrywide. Lots of woodwork and glass and a traditional bar with a wide range of beers and other drinks.Friendly staff and a nice 'local pub' atmosphere. Only fly in ointment was that some of the modern music in the corner a bit louder than conversation. That said, worth a visit for the general atmosphere and decent booze.

On the positive. One of the only pubs in Perth with a good whiskey menu. Bar staff are friendly and good. However, the place feels edgy. I’ve been several times but won’t go in the evenings anymore. I was quietly drinking my dram and a group of youngsters decided to target me. They behaved like children, so I left asap. Beware!

Ok pub!!!. Clean and tidy. But we asked for the snack menu and was told it was only toasties???Well ok..lets just have them. Three cheese and onion, two cheese and ham and a ham only. then told sorry not much onion, only enough for 1. Ok order changed...then told it would be slow as only two cooked at once..ok again we said fine. Then 15 mins later told "sorry we have no bread".....WHAT ????. Tescos is virtually next door. So just left. Not our best welcome to Perth.

We popped in here on a Sunday evening to try a local beer and a whisky and enjoyed our short stay. The choice of whiskies is amazing and the whisky combo offers are good value. The juke box was well played and there were a few friendly locals about. Service was friendly and helpful. A nice change from Perth's other bland pubs, that do little to showcase real ale or malt whisky.

Don't expect anything more than a pub. It's not a wine bar, it's not a "disco bar", it's a pub.And that's exactly what this place does very well.Jukebox, dartboard, seating at the bar as well as in and around the bar and a selection of malts you'd normally have to travel far and wide to taste.

Dickens has an enormous selection of whiskeys, and if you have trouble deciding, you can order a tasting flight of either local or international whiskeys for a sampling. We stopped into Dickens on our way through town for lunch - their lunch soup & sandwich special for ₤4 was a great deal. The day we were there, it was carrot soup and a choice of 1 of 5 different sandwiches (the Coronation chicken sandwich was super fresh and delicious). We'd definitely go back!

We enjoyed two excellent dinners at the Terrace Restaurant. A special mention for our young server Harry who provided excellent and friendly service he was open he was a recent start but his desire to be the best he could be shone through and he had a very positive personality which made the whole experience very enjoyable. Avoid at all costs, I asked for a carrot cake to be heated( I have done this numerous times before) first guy said we can’t (I think he was training- so no problem) other guy said yes let me take it for you. The coffee took 5 to 10 minutes so carrot cake was cold, I asked for a re-heat and was refused after spending £18 plus for 2 coffees and 2 cakes. He said the chef recommended it cold - I can’t eat cold cake as it’s too dry and I have no saliva due to cancer treatment - do I feel like explaining this, no. I was here to collect a winter coat, I treat myself to something every year, never will I frequent House of bruer again, extreme reaction ? - No. I said to coffee guy I’ll speak to manager he replied “good luck then sir” I’m fuming.

I would give two stars for the food and one star for table etiquette. We were unimpressed when we sat down to a table setting of basic low-quality, stamped-out flatware with sharp edges. Three of us ordered meat (duck, pork and beef), the other fish. No alternative, appropriate knives were brought to suit the food, nor was the cutlery replaced after the starter. There were splotches of dried food debris on the underside of all the placemats, which apparently never gets wiped off when they are stacked. The food itself was okay, but portions were on the small side and overpriced for what it was, e.g. two slices of duck breast, 1" slice of sea bass, very little vegetable to accompany. The chicken liver parfait starter was good but came with only three small slices of toasted baguette and bread was £6 extra. There was an abundance of wait staff operating on high-speed settings. We had trouble understanding what kept so many staff on the run (literally) given the restaurant was not full and could have been disruptive were it a romantic dinner for two. We just watched the show. Overall, a four-star restaurant should pay more attention to detail, quality and cleanliness, if it wants to have a four-star reputation.

Last time I was here the fish and chips was really good. Afraid to say this time my wife had the fish and chips and it was cafe standard at best. I had the mac and cheese and I have to say this was the worst mac and cheese I have ever had in my life. Microwaved with what little sauce there was at the bottom of the bowl. The parmesan was probably fresh about a week ago and been sitting out since then. We won’t be bac. Pity as we are local. Staff (waiter, bar staff and receptionist) were pleasant enough though and can’t fault them at all.

We had an enjoyable lunch at the Bein Inn. My partner said his burger was good, his purple coleslaw looked appealing and I have to say his chips (something neither of us is fond of) were probably the best we've had. I ordered a chicken fajita, which was the most unusual I've ever had: *everything*, including the rice (either pilau or basmati, not long grain as I'd expect), wrapped up in one big dod with three sauces on the side. It tasted fine and was filling, but looked tragi-comical. The young waitress warned us they had no avocados, but on questioning thought they may have guacamole; however it was substituted with some kind of chutney, which was ok if unconventional. On the plus side, it all seemed to have actually been cooked rather than banged into a microwave, which we appreciated. The service was good and friendly, and our food arrived in a timely manner, noting that we arrived at the beginning of Friday lunchtime when it was quiet. We're not in a hurry to go back, as the menu was limited and a bit overpriced, at least for my weird offering at £17. There seemed to be some renovation work going on in the entrance area, all good, but didn't add to the ambience. We'd originally looked into this for a Sunday lunch, which seems popular with others, would possibly try it for that in future.
