I spent a glorious month in Shebbear for a woodworking class down the road. I stayed in an apartment across the street from the Devil's Stone Inn, but I bet I spend almost as much time at the pub. Lee, Suzy, and the whole crew at DSI were fabulous! A gracious bunch who makes everyone feel welcome. The atmosphere is friendly, fun, and welcoming. The food and drinks were delicious, and on the one summer day in July, the beer garden was stupendous (jk, spent a few evenings out there). If you go, and I hope you do, have an Otter Amber. YUM! And be sure to ask Lucy for the venison pie!

I decided on the special , crab salad which was a whole crab with bread butter home made coleslaw and salad..delicious! Hubby had ploughman's which had a generous amount of ham 2 cheeses pickles crisps scotch egg bread and butter coleslaw and salad.. he struggled to finish it but forced himself! Pub is dog friendly too, if you have your furry friend with you

Lively Friday evening in the pub with a friendly welcome. Thankfully, given the option of food in the quieter dining area. Prompt, efficient service. Straight to mains with the Venison Pie accompanied by mash potatoes, and a selection of veg including cabbage, carrots and broccoli. The pie was huge. Everything cooked perfectly. Grilled Halloumi in Ciabata with coleslaw and fries. Delicious too. Desserts were both Ice Cream Sundaes, one Strawberry, the other Honeycomb Crunch. Both huge. Both lovely.

We could not have been made to feel more welcome. What a fantastic pub with great owners and friendly locals. We were in the area for a week and first popped in on Saturday afternoon and were amazed to find they were still serving food at 3pm. The food was fairly priced and very generous portions- we were hooked. The pub was busy every time we visited and the beer was fantastic. Very dog friendly, the owners went out of their way to make us feel at home. Open fire, decent beer and food and separate pool area and dining room. We could not have wished for a better ‘local’ for our week away and can’t wait to go back to this lovely village. Thank you.

Thanks to Lee & Suzie and their team- we were fitted in to this marvellous pub .. food for five hungry travellers. Although understaffed, they pulled this off rather nicely, with a great choice of inexpensive hoomcooked food ( try the pies , well worth the wait ! ) Love the surroundings from this vibrant Devon inn . Charming people, only regret we didn’t have time to pop in again.. maybe someday 😁

Having been recommended this Inn from locals in the village and not wanting to drive home before a local performance of Peter Pan we thought we’d try out this place. We were so glad we did! This place is GREAT! It’s quirky yet cool. The service super friendly and welcoming, especially Tommy! The fire (and friendly service) made the bar warm and inviting. The beer was excellent, I wholly recommend the ale on tap! A perfect pint IMHO! The food was super delicious, plentiful, well cooked and brilliantly seasoned! I can heartily recommend the burgers and gammon! 😋😋 The price fantastically reasonable and great value, especially in this current climate 👍👍👍 I even feel the need to mention how clean the toilets were! 🤩 Overall a truly outstanding experience that will, hopefully, be repeated very soon. Thank you for a terrific evening. We all had a truly amazing evening.

Although the kitchen is undergoing a major refurbishment we were still offered snacks & drinks & Lee's cuppas were always on offer ... thanks Lee. Our room was spotlessly clean well stocked with tea & coffee making facilities, good shower facilities & a very comfortable bed. Lovely friendly atmosphere & we wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend to anyone wanting the same experience as us. We will be returning again, again & again. Thank you Susie & Lee for making our stay so pleasant.

Staying nearby for a few days over Easter with our dog we looked for a place to partake of a local ale or two, with excellent reviews on social media the Devil’s Stone Inn seemed just the ticket, as it turned out a golden one at that. A warm welcome from the owners (just celebrated their first year in charge) of this lovely old coaching house with large sunny beer garden in the heart of the village of Shebbear is fantastic. Great range of of local ales from Dartmoor and Otter Breweries plus great selection of wines, soft drinks and local Gins. Not looking for lunch we were quickly persuaded into the best ploughman’s we have ever had and even took away a scotch eggs and sausage roll - how could we not when they were homemade to perfection. Definitely worth the trip we will be back, highly recommended.

I had an avocado and crispy bacon toasted sandwich while my wife had an (enormous) ploughman’s. Also a good footpath walk back to Grascott Farm holiday cottages.

I love this pub. I have lived permanently in this area for 20 years and have never found better! They normally serve really good, home cooked food, but due to coronavirus, are just doing drinks at the moment. The landlord and landlady are very friendly, cheery and hospitable. They keep a fine cellar and the standard of hygiene is extremely high. This is why I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else for a post-lockdown drink. They practice social distancing and have a huge beer garden.

This pub looks fine from the outside and we expected a game and fish menu. We were disappointed to find only basic and poor pub grub. My chicken appeared to have been raised in a concentration camp rather than a farm and the salad consisted of half a cherry tomato and a few slices of a lettuce leaf. The toilets were unsatisfactory as to hand wash one had to use a bar of soap and a single cloth towel, hardly conducive to hygiene.Against this the food was cheap and the service friendly and quick.

Lunch .. Would I recommend ...yesWould I eat here again...yes if in areaFamily meal here consisted of home made tomato soup, was very average, strange colour and wasn't best start. Ham egg and chips - excellent! Beautiful eggs, great homemade chips and some really nicely cut ham. Cheese and game ploughmans - very nice , fantastic pickled onion, ham gorgeous, cheese ok! Jacket spud with cheese/beans - nice but standard. Cheese sandwich - looked plain but was for a child. Also saw other meals and all looked good, also heard very good feedback. Draught ale excellent. Barman / owner was friendly, full of stories about the ghostly going ons and good humour.Price .... Excellent! Nice pub!Sadly due to modern times I hear the owner is selling up... Hopefully someone will buy this business and not turn it into flats!

Hard to find without sat-nav when not local and in dark, the food is some of the best in the district at a fair price, yes you can have chips with everything but they will be hand cut, low calorie none fattening, Portions are large and very tasty, the local beers are good and well presented. The locals are very friendly and make you very welcome and it can turn into a very late night. Fishing and shooting trips can be organised for you on request in season. We did go back again later that week and had another good night.

This place was ok. My 'home cooked' fish pie was basically seafood covered in mash, with chips on the side! the scampi was very likely from the local supermarket, and again severed with a large portion of chips. The chicken in bacon and cheese was greasy and possibly a little undercooked, and yes you guessed it, served with a large portion of chips. So if you like chips, then you won't be disappointed. I however, would not go again.

We popped in for lunch, and was met with a warm welcome. The food was very good, good amount and very well priced. We had a look at the rooms as was thinking of stopping here next year on our way down, but the cost is a little high compared to where we normally stay at the Tom Cobley in Spreyton. But the history locally is interesting, and we would go back for a meal or Lunch.

Came in for Sunday roast and food was 10/10, best roast we have had for quite a while. What lacked was the service. We booked for 3pm and whilst we appreciate we entered at a busy time wrapping up peak time, service received wasn’t great from the off. One particular server seemed to be in quite a mood and was remarkably blunt “no” when we asked questions about getting some extra yorkshires (which we were a bit surprised the pork meal didn’t come with, but our fault for not reading the menu properly!) Plus someone seemed to think it was a great idea to loudly polish/sort out the cutlery at the bar, which was right next to our table, making conversation quite difficult and picked up by all 4 members of our party. Shame as food was amazing and would go back, but service lacked. 3pm bookings just as important as 12pm as all paying the same!
