Desh in Tonbridge and Malling

Not sure how this place is getting good reviews, maybe they are paying for them because this food is absolutely shocking and is not authentic Indian food. Food is SO bland, the Chicken korma was so greasy and is made with chicken thighs. We didn’t even finish our food because it was that terrible. Sorry to say but the way staff act is kind of irritating, they hang around standing in the restaurant and we don’t need the intro about the food.

We have been there a few times. We went for the Deshi Roast Dinner! It was amazing. We order an extra side dish there wasn’t eaten as there was so much food. It tasted superb. The drinks were fantastic too! The staff were all so friendly, making you feel very welcome but working so professionally.

Without hesitation I recommend this restaurant. Food was selected from a wide choice and was excellent matched by friendly and efficient service.

Definitely a cut above the average Indian/Asian restaurant. Charming staff gave us a warm welcome and kept up the good service through the evening. The food was interesting and tasty. The restaurant is quite smart inside as well.

A great modern Indian restaurant with a top notch menu with an extensive selection of dishes to try. Each Taylor made to fit with your personal spice levels. Well presented. Excellent in house team who go to great lengths to explain to you the menu and the ethos behind the place. Well worth a visit.

Managed to book a large table with ease. Food was amazing. 1 persons main was miss heard but the team was amazing and very quickly sorted it.

Over and over again we have experienced superb food and service. A great, different selection of dishes from most run of the mill Indian style restaurants. Every time we leave we're planning our next visit already. One of my favourite restaurants, and it's local!

A great place to dine for any occasion. Honestly from the moment me and my wife entered the restaurant we felt special, The service was top notch. We had a lovely waiter and 4 brilliant waitresses attend our table throughout the evening and each one was brilliant. Once we had received our food we fell in love with the restaurant even more. We ordered in Total 2 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts and wow, wow, wow. The flavour and quality of each dish was amazing. We can't wait to be back. Thank you to the whole team for having us and making our night so great.

This is now my 2nd visit and once again completely blown away by how perfect the food is presented & tastes. We went for an early Saturday afternoon visit so the restaurant was quieter than the last time we visited. This restaurant is a hidden gem. With just approximately 1hour drive from London you’ll find this place in West Malling. If you want to go for the full package of excellent food, perfect service you should really visit Desh in West Malling. We would really want to thank Becky for her service!

Our first visit to Desh was a delight, the service and food was faultless. Very different from usual curry restaurants. We would definitely be putting this in our top ten restaurants in the area.

Just had an absolute amazing lunch in Desh. The food was just out of this world. Enjoyed every dish. This beats some of the top London Indian restaurants for half the money. By far my favourite restaurant!!

We had a fantastic evening at Desh with some friends back in August. The service was outstanding, such helpful, friendly staff who can't do enough for you. The food was prompt and beautifully presented and tasted delicious, every dish we had we all thoroughly enjoyed. We've booked again for Nov with different friends and can't wait to return.

Eaten in Desh many times but yesterday was the first time we had gone for lunch. We were not disappointed and can’t highly recommend the lunchtime menu for something a little different to a regular curry. I had the chicken wrap with masala chips and my other half had the chilli chicken. Good portions and will definitely return soon.

Best restaurant in West Malling! The food tastes fresh and full of flavour. The service is always attentive and no rushing. We have visited a few times now and have never had a bad meal.

Such a great night. Lovely, amazing staff so if you are in West Malling I would definitely recommend going. Coming from Bradford, curry is important to us. I've never had anything that comes close beyond my home town, but Desh is a lovely place with fabulous staff and enjoyable food. It's a must place to visit if you are in the area.

The food was a little on the spicy side. There wasn't any indication of spice strength on the menu.

Extremely disappointed firstly at the cost a curry is a curry ,sauce and meat or vegetables doesn't warrant a price of £15.50 just for a Korma.Service was OK a curry was forgotten about and the chips that arrived was dropped on the table. I'll stick to my local curry house where a beautiful Dhansak is £6.95. Being in west malling and putting al carte on your menu shouldn't make a curry over priced.

We went for the Sunday roast. Amazing twist on the traditional English meal.

Great food! And if you go on Tuesdays, they offer a special menu where you can choose a variety of item in small portions, so you get a chance to try everything. And their Chili Chicken starter dish is out of this world! I’ve never had anything like it, so highly recommend.

Absolutely incredible experience, best restaurant I've been to in a long time. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. They recommended particular dishes to our preference, which turned out to be perfect. The food was delicious, best authentic Indian food I've had locally, and probably the best garlic naan ever! Great cocktails - loved the Berry Desh with fruit, grenadine and a brilliant balancing hint of ginger. The Disarrono Anar was wonderful on my most recent visit. The Traditional sharing meal was wonderful too with lovely marinated half roast chicken, gorgeous beef biryani and a wonderful dhal murkhani. On my most recent visit both of us branched out to try new dishes and all were fantastic, so I'd encourage you to try whatever looks appealing.

Some of the best Indian food I've eaten. Their cocktails are yummy. Try their chocolate samosas and gulab jamun, you will thank me. Service is always welcoming.

It's possibly one of the best authentic meals I have had. The staff are so welcoming. Us and our friends had such a great night. We will definitely be coming back.

Rather underwhelmed by the decor, food and service.... Booked a table, turned up to a sad looking restaurant interior. I was told all the tables are free go find your own and I'll bring a menu. (Not seated) Everywhere looked unclean I got poppadoms and a coke after being asked Five minutes later two lads bowl in clearly regulars, get seated personally with menus drinks and poppadoms straight away and their order taken before I even got a menu. After another 15 minutes I finished my snacks (that tasted awful) got up and left. I never even got to see a menu or order any food.. I'd give the premises a 1/10 Service 2/10 because the young lad was good The little food I tried also a 1 The mint sauce tasted awful and wa like water, the mango chutney was out of a jar and the other sauce was acrid and tasted like a tapas side out of Asda. I couldn't be more dissapointed and for west malling I'm shocked..

I had a lovely Sunday roast at The Desh today . I went for the beef . The hint of spice enfused into the food was perfect . I'd definitely recommend it and will return . The service was excellent and friendly . Thank you .

Had a takeaway from Desh last night. Wonderful food. Not your standard curry house. Bought the set meal, everything was tasty, with delicate balances of flavours. It lived up to the hype.

Fantastic food, authentic and great taste. Quite a small selection of fish/vegetarian options & expensive with £4 for a small serving of rice… but curries themselves are excellent

A fabulous Indian twist on a Sunday roast. Your chosen meat is pre ordered in advance, we had the beef and chicken but the lamb shank looked fab too and fell off the bone. We absolutely loved it !

The Garlic Naan was one of the best naans I've had, you can actually taste the garlic! Everything was well presented and the food was lovely and more classy to your usual Indian/Bangladesh restaurant. Great selection of cocktails and the decor was lovely. We all said we would return.

i found a dead insect in my food fried and curled up, lookeed like a cockroach and i pointed it out to the waiters and they quickly took my plate before i can take a picture then when it came to paying they charged me even though my apittite was gone and i didnt want anymore food. when i refused to pay they assalted me by grabbing me on my hand and throwing me out. food was bland and horrible stafff

absoloutley horrible food and staff, i witnessed a customer find a cockroach in their food and the staff tried to hide it and treated the customer inhumaine and dragged him out because of his complaint. the food wasnt that great and bland. not woth the money and the chicken tasted like it was offff

I recently visited over the bank holiday weekend and made a booking the day prior. We arrived early and were fortunately still able to get a seat as the restaurant was very busy (always a good sign). The waiting staff were very attentive and the service was superb. The food was amazing, some of the best tasting lamb I have had in a long time. I was recommended to try the lamb chops and they did not disappoint. Will definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

My husband and I came here for dinner and we absolutely loved the food, atmosphere and service. Everyone was really helpful and took extra precautions due to my allergy which I was really grateful for. My favourite menu items were the saag paneer and daal makhni. Thank you.

Our 2nd visit to Desh in West Malling and both times the food has been excellent. The menu choices are varied and a great selection for brunch/lunch if you want a smaller sized meal. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. So glad we found this place and look forward to returning for an evening meal soon.

Visited Desh over 5 times now and cant knock them at all, every time the food and service has been 10/10.

Really lovely Sunday lunch. The onion bjahi stuffing balls were amazing! Desert samosas were a special treat too. Will definitely be back again!

Nice atmosphere and delicious food!

It’s a Yesh for Desh. As someone with experience visiting India. This was like coming home. Brilliant food and service.

First the positives. The staff were brilliant, really friendly, attentive and polite. The restaurant itself is well kept, nice decor and looks clean. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was pretty disappointing. I appreciate that taste is subjective and I can see that the owners are trying to provide an alternative to the typical high street curry experience but I just didn’t enjoy it. Starters was chilli chicken, a kind of bizarre Chinese/Indian hybrid of pieces of low value chicken thighs/wings wrapped in a sweet sticky sauce with sesame seeds. Mains an underwhelming butter chicken dish with again predominantly thigh meat (and not much of it). I had some zeera aloo on the side which was effectively boiled potatoes with skins on, fried with a few spices, but oddly a bit flavourless. The papadams were ok but the sauces were bland. The menu was very limited and prices were higher than average which you don’t mind if it’s enjoyable. The supposed USP of this restaurant is the authenticity and again I guess it’s subjective but having spent 6 months travelling in India I have to say I didn’t ever come across food like this. Judging by the other reviews on here I seem to be in a minority but personally I found It all a bit strange and not for me.
