Not everyone has Facebook, hours aren’t advertised, turned up at 15:40 and was turned away as apparently they’re only accepting last orders...”staff have been busy all day and just want to get cleaned up” is a pretty piss poor excuse, you provide a custom and in the politest way it’s their job, if it’s busy then fantastic surely? After calling 2 times to make sure it was open and messaging on Instagram and receiving no response it’s just all round horrific service aswell as spoiling a family day out. Multiple families/ couples being turned away shows a lack of information.

I took my three daughters to see Santa today 5/12/20. He was so lovely along with his helper Papa Elf. No huge queue, social distancing (but without any jobs worths spoiling the effect for the kids). Lovely Christmasy atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Would definitely do it again.

We visited here on Sunday for the second time and each time we've come the cafe has been full which shows how popular it is and how good the food is. Despite it being busy our food was excellent and the wait time was clearly explained at the time of ordering. To be honest the fact there was a wait was good because although we were all starving it meant our food and milkshakes were being freshly made. Needless to say all the food was polished off. I loved seeing my youngest daughter's eyes nearly pop out of her head when her milkshake arrived and the ice cream was so big even she had to share it with her sister! (A thing unheard of before). Despite being busy the staff were very friendly and took the time to chat to us about the cafe, the location and explain the reason for the wait, all of which was interesting to hear. It was also great to see an independent business being so successful. Top marks and thank you

An amazing hidden jewel set right on the edge of Derwent reservoir. Excellent facilities, atmosphere, food, and even a Alpaca or two. Great family run business that makes you feel part of the family. Super friendly and right on natures doorstep. The food is amazing, its no wonder they have won awards, and all locally sourced. Cannot recommend enough.

Just happened upon this place. Vegetarian choices excellent - had veggie sausage in a yorkshire pudding wrap and my partner had beef in a wrap. Both excellent. Followed by an tub of ice cream with chocolate sauce. The shakes are a work of art and look fabulous but we were too full to try one. A good reason to return. Staff were welcoming and very knowledgeable about items on the menu and the drinks on offer. Fantastic atmosphere - a real family fun place. Will return for a walk and shakes. Llamas also very striking.

The food was fantastic, very tasty and I have no words to describe the milkshake, only to try one you will not be disappointed. The views are amazing and we even feed the ducks and larmas Definitely will be returning

Called in for a welcome drink after walking along the reservoir. Didn't have time to stay for any food because our car park ticket was due to run out, however the meals being brought out looked nice. We had two cups of tea, nice brew, however we thought we would be given a pot of tea. We will certainly return and might even book a Pod!

My wife and I stayed here for a few days in one of the pods called Mally’s Mansion and have a few meals at the boat shack cafe, we absolutely adored every single second of it. The pod was really clean and had a beautiful view of the reservoir, can’t wait to come back to this pod! The boat shack was incredible, the shakes, the food and the atmosphere were all perfect! We had a couple of dinners and they were all divine. Also big shout out to the wonderful family who runs the place! They were all lovely and very welcoming! We are already planning on another trip here!

We don't need to travel far to get here but it's a long while since we were at Pow Hill so took a walk along the reservoir then returned for a cuppa. Very well appointed site with views. Hadn't realised it has a small camping/caravan site too. A lot of effort has been put into it. It wasn't too busy so served straightaway. Good coffee, polite and friendly service. Only downside......loud music. This was a quiet July Friday afternoon, we'd had a peaceful walk but here was 60s pop blasting from the speakers. We sat outside by choice but it was still very intrusive. Just seemed so out of place in such peaceful surroundings.

I know this area well. Born and bred in Consett, these moors and the River Derwent hold so many happy memories. When the Reservoir was first proposed, people were, quite naturally very concerned. Today, it is a wonderful amenity. The small yachts were out on the water, the sky was a wonderful blue and as the Red Squirrels were taking a nap, I decided to go for a snack at the Boat Shack. I enjoyed a good coffee and a cream scone - delicious. It was very busy, with families, cyclists and walkers, but the service was excellent. It's a very friendly place and I'll be back!!

After a beautiful walk aound the Derwent we called at The Boat Shack as being such a cold windy day we were desperate for a hot drink. We were at first disappointed to find this cafe closed , however we were greeted by the owner at the door who explained that at present they were just open on a Friday Saturday and Sinday. Here the owner said he was happy to open up and make us takeaway drinks we wanted as the drinks machine was switched on. What a lovely gesture which we welcomed with open arms. The location of this cafe is simply superb, sitting on the banks of the Derwent it has stunning views of the Northumberland hills. Free car parking is available from the Pow Hill country park. Here you can walk around the Derwent to the neighbouring country parks around 3 miles away, making around trip of 6 miles. This walk can be accessed by wheelchair and the park is dog friendly provided all dogs are kept on a leader. Plenty of wildlife to see from Red Kites, Ducks and Barn Owls. I understand there are some big plans afoot for The Boat Shack to extending the camp site , creating a gift shop and garden centre. There is no doubt that I will be returning to this charming cafe very soon to sample the delights of there restaurant. Good luck in this venture.

After a walk around Derwent Reservoir we called at the Boat Shack. The cheesecake was delicious, the view beautiful and the staff very friendly. The Shack was very warm and inviting after our walk. My only disappointment was I missed the milkshakes - wish these the drinks had been on the menu. But it is a good reason to go back and we certainly will.
