Disappointing. Barista was rude, we were given small paper cups inside and the coffee was lukewarm and mid. Cakes were good however!

Intriguing name, which got me in there. Good bitter coffee - just as I like it. Pleasant but functional staff.

I ordered two coffees and noticed he started to make the coffee in paper cups (not very environmentally friendly) and when I requested a real cup as we were sitting in the café he refused saying they didn’t have enough staff to wash up cups and was very condescending and rude. I have never been in any coffee house that serves coffee in a paper cup unless taking away. The toilet door, floor and sink were in a filthy state, I would not recommend this place due to rude, lazy staff and hygiene issues…..avoid! Spitalfields Market Branch

Quick cortado while on the go, not a massive review but thanks to the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs for a really intense, good cup of coffee. Good service, great setting, a pleasure all round.

Trengte et sted å sitte med for lunsj. Kom tilfeldigvis forbi denne lille koselige kafeen nær Carnaby Street. Nydelig kaffe og god og sunn lunsj. Utrolig billig.

Beautiful presentation, great little coffee shop wonderful greeting BUT the WORST coffee I have ever tasted! The coffee was so bitter that I thought the machine had not probably been cleaned out BUT when I ask they actually said that is the flavour of the coffee bean. My first and definitely LAST visit.

Been going to this cafe for a while now as the coffee is decent. Went there this morning with my family, we were 5 min early from opening time and didn't realise we were early as all the doors were wide open. We were nearly thrown out of the place as we walked in. Staff simply treated us like criminals. Won't be going there again, regular or one-off customers don't deserve this sort of treatment. Londoners deserve better and there are many great places to go to.

Italians stay away pls. Coffee had a weird and unplessant flavour and 5 £ for two coffe is definitely too much. It's a shame 'cause it's very nice place.

I love Coffee and I am always happy to try out new coffees and I could be called a terrible hipster for the freshly ground coffee I bring home for my cafetiere. I was really looking forward to this place, loved the logo, mantra etc. Whilst nothing is wrong with the place and the coffee is excellent, 3 £ for a not very medium flat white is a hard sell in my book (same price for a latte etc). I repeat great coffee but at a price...

Coffee was good, though it cooled too quickly because it's served in a glass. Chocolate twist was delicious and enormous. Coffee prices were high, but the coffee and a pastry for £4 deal is good. The "large" coffee was served in a small cheap glass tumbler. The small coffee was served in a similar cheap glass, about the same volume as you get in those tiny fruit juice glasses at a hotel breakfast buffet. The ambiance is unpleasant. Cheap tables in an echoey basement. Doesn't appear to have had any thought put into the decor. Unless that thought was "let's do this as cheaply as possible". Cheapest possible tables, chairs, glasses, napkins, decor. Like a builders' cafe, except for the high prices. When they make a coffee, it's so loud that the conversation has to stop. All you need is one person with a loud voice, and the noise is unpleasant and intrusive. Pleasant staff.

A cool coffee shop doling out well crafted hits of espresso-based goodness. Really nice pastries too, which are especially welcome when one is in need of a mid-shopping spree break.

Stopped off for a quick coffee and ended up hanging in the basement. A bit of an error was made with the coffee, but a lovely guy sorted it out for us. A decent coffee and relaxed atmosphere, with the bustle of spitalfields just out of earshot.

This small shop is in Old Spitalfields Market has a nice variety of coffee brews and snacks. Plus, you can buy a number of coffee grinds to brew at home. Visiting from the states, I welcomed the excellent flavor and service that seems to have been lost with the big chain cafes. Wish there were more of its kind!

A place like this is all about the quality of the coffee and on that front I think they have got it right. Had a Cortado that was served in a small glass cup. Great flavour and a good strong kick from the coffee. Prices are at the high end of things but no worse than my other favourite Taylor Street. Might not be my everyday choice due to the cost but for a really good coffee when you need a little something better than the usual costa or Starbucks this is a good option.

Not inexpensive, but one of the nicest cappuccinos I've had. Could have been a little hotter; we were sat outside in Feb and it'd have been nice to take a little more time over it before it got cold.

The waiter named Juliana pay to much attention to our table, making it a very warm and special time. I recommend this place a lottttt!! :)

Sargeant's Mess is a British restaurant just in front of the Tower of London and adjacent to Tower Bridge. Created by celebrity chef Mark Sargeant, the restaurant serves unmemorable food in a fairly bland atmosphere buttressed by one of the most spectacular locations in London. The food concept behind Mess is to offer traditional British fare at a high quality. Frankly, it is just average. The food is the weakpoint of the restaurant. The concept just seems to have fallen away with for instance the only vegetarian dish in the main course even using the American name Mac N Cheese. It is ok but it is just macaroni cheese so there's a clear ceiling to how good it can be. A large part of the menu is burgers. Not exactly traditional British fare. The vegetarian burger was not bad because it had an avocado in it. Otherwise not the kind of a quality a specialist upmarket provider might generate. Dessert options are fairly limited though the Eton Mess is ok. Service was not that great unfortunately. The faux accent was jarring in its articulation. Chips as an accompaniment to a burger were served without question as to whether a condiment could be offered then an over the top response was generated to a question asking whether such a thing could be provided. Price is high considering the fare. The location does demand a price like that but the food does not. Sargeant just has failed to generate interesting eating. One real shame for a December lunch was that it turned out the Christmas menu was not on offer. It was a real disappointment and made the whole place feel like a let-down. The plus is absolutely the magnificent location. Nestling in the shadow of the Tower and next to Tower Bridge the views are incredible. Looking out at the Thames is beautiful here although the number of window seats is quite small. However, going outside while waiting for food for instance offers a terrific perspective on some of London's finest buildings. Admittedly it is perfectly possible just to walk along the Thames and get the same view. Sargeant's Mess is ultimately a disappointment. The food is flavourless and too simple. Nothing interesting about it at all. No creativity or flair. The price reflects the location and so is too much for the quality of the eating. Service is not great and it was such a shame to find the menus advertised on the website did not exist in reality. The plus is the magnificent location, one of the very best anywhere in London.

Im assuming this is the stour cafe 258 Kingsland Road, and if not then thats what I'm talking about! Amazing coffee and the best bacon sarnie Ive ever eaten. Had in back in early December. Sour dough bread, butter, amazing meat and brown sauce - it was just brilliant. The bread was ace too. Great chef!
