I love this place, the single best source of tasty breakfast and coffee after dropping the kids off and before wfh. Properly good food.

We are so sorry to have stumbled upon this tired and lacklustre place because as a customer I didn’t feel the slightest bit welcome. It had a very unfriendly man with no passion working behind the counter. The coffees were ok but the Brittany cake that we ordered was tiny and tasted a little stale to be honest and not a great advert for French culture. The decor was dull, the loud rock /blues music annoying and we had no goodbye when we left. Next time we’ll take our money somewhere else.

Nice cafe. Reasonable prices. We went for 2 successive breakfasts when staying in Moseley for the cricket. I had a bacon, sausage and egg sandwich one day and a full English the next. Couldn't fault it

So great to find somewhere that does gluten free vegan and give you a substantial amount of food! Nice chic place. Hidden find. If you are vegan, veggie or gf and fancy the taste of France check this little spot out. Near to the high street and tucked away just enough to get some quiet. Free WiFi was good 😊 I ordered the vegan breakfast with gluten free bread. Oh how lovely was the bread! Like a cross between brioche and bread 🍞 probably one of the nicest gf breads I've had. I also had an oat matcha latte to wash it all down nicely.

Had the worst latte. Returned to ask to remake and just poured in coffee from premade filter coffee pot. Ended up throwing away and getting from somewhere else. The young person who served me was also emotionless and said not a word

Absolutely brilliant, authentic French food. Recommended by a friend of mine who is very particular about his food. Very pleasant ‘ambience’ and lovely food as well. Not exactly like being in France 🇫🇷 because the owner is far too friendly for that. However in French speaking countries like France 🇫🇷 and Belgium 🇧🇪 they are used to the English not speaking any French or even attempting to speak French, drinking too much alcohol, shouting loudly in English and dressing like someone who is colour blind. I understand where the Francophones are coming from. The owner also comes from Bordeaux, a city whose football club is where Birmingham City’s greatest ever football player Christophe Dugarry plied his trade. Like we are grateful to Christophe Dugarry I am grateful for De Maines. I had the Croque Madame and some Hunnan tea 🫖 I will go here again as there are many other good items on the menu.

Brilliant breakfast - we always have a good time here. The food is brilliant and fresh. We come here every time we visit Moseley.

I had a such a lovely ham and cheese omelette for lunch here today - on this gloomy, rainy day it was just what I wanted. I hadn't visited in years and the café was empty apart from me so I'm posting this to remind anyone else who hasn't visited in a while that the food's still great. Service was understated, efficient and all the better for it. I couldn't stay for long and wanted something inexpensive, hearty and warming to eat that wasn't bread-based served quickly. And that's exactly what I got 😁 I'd love to see a clearer salad option on the menu.

A good value cafe serving the more traditional breakfast fare at very good prices. There is also a French influence with a variety of galettes available. There is alot of choice on the menu with full breakfast, sandwiches, omelettes, galettes, and some specials. There is a good selection of veggie options and a vegan breakfast as well. There is some parking available across the road.

As a builder I eat at alot of cafes and this is 1 of the best iv had well cooked good quality beacon and sos and no grease smiling staff and nice an clean

Great food friendly place bostin tea

Different from your normal cafe. This place offers up dished with a French twist. You can get your standard cooked breakfasts coming in varying sizes and prices. They use quality ingredients and are well cooked and not overly greasy. I would higy recommend the omlettes as they are cooked beautifuly, incredibly light and the best I have had. On the weekend the speciality is Galettes, which are very popular, come early to avoid disappointment.

Great coffee. Double Espresso hits the spot. Unfortunately that is where it ends. Service is not the best, lack of enthusiasm and smile. De Main vegetarian/vegan meal leaves much to be desired. Would drop by for just an Espresso.

Good value, mouth watering quality. You can taste the care and quality thats taken with the food. It's absolutely delicious and great price. The coffee is also lovely.. top choice for a real breakfast in Moseley. The option of fish breakfast is delightful too, change from the bacon and sausage regularly offered.

Me alegra ver que este café vuelve a abrir después del cierre. Es difícil encontrar la esencia de Moseley en estos días entre la riqueza y las cadenas de pubs, pero Demaines aún captura la belleza de las pequeñas empresas independientes. Gran comida auténtica de café francés con un ambiente relajado y música decente para mantenerte relajado. Quirky atmosphere, tasty breakfast no frills but one of my go to cafes

¿Dónde empiezo? El servicio fue terrible, tardó media hora en un domingo tranquilo. La comida estaba tibia. . . no caliente. El huevo era de goma. Pedí otro huevo que vino. Comí la comida lo poco que había porque, para cuando llegó, me moría de hambre pero por 4. 50 Solo obtuve algunos frijoles, un hash brown, un huevo de goma y una rebanada de pan tostado empapado en dos. La taza de té estaba o. k. Todo lo demás horrible.

Brilliant place for breakfast! The owner is a bit moody but the guy that works there when the owner isn't serving is very lovely and friendly.

Just had breakfast here, quite a small space but the service was quick and the food is excellent value for money.

Este lugar es interesante, y las reseñas mixtas tienen mucho sentido. Sí, el "chico francés" no es la persona sonriente que se encuentra en la mayoría de los lugares en Moseley (pero cambiará de opinión una vez que haya experimentado el servicio parisino). Y sí, a veces uno espera mucho y se pregunta qué es lo que realmente están haciendo en la cocina cuando solo hay dos clientes. . . Pero todo esto es secundario. Sus galettes son simplemente perfectas. Y así es la otra comida. Puedes ir a Maison Mayci e intentar sentirte francés o vienes aquí y comes francés. Es, con mucho, la experiencia más francesa en Moseley (para mí). El café es excelente por cierto. Y los precios son fantásticos. Popped in for something quick to eat whilst wandering around Moseley. Menu is full of quick comfort food. Really good value for money and lovely food....had an excellent toastie and baguette. Will definitely go back.

Not the best service to be honest, been going there for some time, couldn't let me off 50p when ordering two sandwiches. Won't go there again.

Visited again today and had a lovely lunch. They have a great selection of food but I went for the mega veggie breakfast which is really enjoyable. The staff here are so nice too and really make the stay enjoyable. They don't rush you either so you can linger over tea/coffee and a crème brulee doughnut!

Good service; great coffee. I’ve tried a couple of coffee places around Birmingham and here was the best espresso by far. Colombian, nutty, delicious coffee. Will come back. :)

Came in for a late breakfast. Ridiculously slow service since I was the only person who ordered and everyone else was leaving. Nearly half an hour to get my food. Reasonable value but I don't think I'll bother coming here again. This is the third time I've been in about 2 years and every time was the same. They also got the order wrong but I'd waited so long I didn't bother to complain.

This is a gem of a place. Small with 20 covers, great music playing, really pleasant and friendly staff. The food was all freshly cooked and tasted wonderful. If you are having breakfast, lunch or tea anywhere else stop and give this place a try. Great value for money too!

Came on a lovely November morning and ordered the mega breakfast and wow was it mega! Amazing value for £5.50 and all fresh! Great service and the "French guy" as they call him is a lovely man with great customer service skills. Always goes out of his way! Definitely coming back!

That French really has no glue about customer service. Cold coffee and then reheats it in the microwave. Disgraceful! Does not have a glue and clearly not interested. Would not recommend this place. Lot of other really decent cafe's in Moseley.

Very polite staff, excellent service and very tasty fresh food. Popped in for a breakfast as I was working locally and fancied a bit baguette. I was certainly not disappointed. A must if your in town and want some top notch grub!

Cuatro de nosotros visitamos este café de hoy, Sábado 29. 07. 17, por primera vez para el desayuno antes de visitar el mercado de agricultores. Los ingredientes eran de mala calidad, especialmente la salchicha, huevos y las tostadas crudas servida era pan caliente! La comida estaba tibia y se sirve en platos fríos. Nuestro café llegaron en pequeñas tazas y sólo la mitad. Nos sirvieron té observados en un tazón. Música era demasiado alta. Una visita muy decepcionante con una mala relación calidad-precio. No volveremos.

Fantastic for breakfast and service. I was able to book a table for four in advance and was not disappointed. From the initial contact on the phone to receiving the bill the service was exceptional. Breakfast menu has a variety of dishes and my group of four agreed that it was the best breakfast for miles around and great value for money. Staff are incredibly polite and nothing is a problem. I would recommend that you book your table in advance so that you are not disappointed and left to visit another eatery in Moseley which will not be up to the very high standards of DeMaines. Will be back soon.

As a regular customer who finds no issue travelling 3 miles for the best breakfast around without spending ridiculous amounts of money. Obvious from the first bite, DeMaines of Moseley use a higher class of ingredients than their counterparts - be these other independent cafes or larger chains offering breakfast food, such as whetherspoons). It is these high grade ingredients, as well as the genuine care given to every customer through the door that make DeMaines of Moseley not just another cafe, but simply the best around for anybody that values a decent breakfast to set you up for the day. With a range spanning breakfast, baguettes, wraps, cakes, and an enourmous selection of tea and coffee, it is a safe bet that anybody could find something to love at DeMaines.

Never had bad service here. Great normal breakfast, great friendly staff which is all backed up with background music. Always something good playing in this café. Enjoy peeps.

Been coming to de maines for some time now and it never fails to disappoint! The staff are warm and friendly and the decor is arty and quirky (nothing you wouldn't expect in Moseley) nice and jazzy music plays in the background and the breakfast menu has good range of fresh food. Food is cooked fresh here so there is a little wait at times but the result never fails to disappoint! myself and my girlfriend come here regularly on a Sunday morning and order the full breakfast at £5 including a cup of tea and it is delightful! Would definitely recommend!

Well, where do I begin? After walking past this cafe for months and wanting to check it, my boyfriend and I finally did... and what a mistake that turned out to be. When we walked in we were seated by a French gentleman who handed us both menus (at this point all was going well, besides the slightly slap dash decor of the place but this could have been ignored) the prices on the menu seemed mostly reasonable. My boyfriend went up to order and was ignored for a few minutes, while the French man sat in front of him on his iPad, I thought perhaps he was a little hard of hearing and walked over in a slightly louder manor, the French man finally acknowledged my boyfriend. Anyway... my boyfriend ordered the mega breakfast and myself the Mexican vegetarian breakfast, from the menu I was looking forward to a nice vegetarian breakfast, with Mexican cheese beans, a poached egg (as I requested) and toast... I couldn't wait!! Well after around 15 minutes my partners breakfast was brought out by the French man, it looked quite nice (what you would imagine from a cafe breakfast)... and then we waited, and waited and waited... so he tucked in while I watched like a hungry hawk waiting to swoop in at any moment! Finally when my boyfriend was nearing completion of his plait my food finally arrived, and what a disappointment that was! I can't quite describe what the 'Mexican beans' looked like, they were just splatted on the plate, next to that mess was two halves of very anaemic looking toast, well slightly warmed bread really. Hideous! Even my egg looked a little worse for ware. And that was it, my £5 breakfast consisted of just that! The bean mess, a few slices of anaemic bread and the egg! The sight of the bean mess really did turn my stomach, I couldn't eat it, I wanted to know where the rest of my breakfast was, as the menu really does make it out to sound rather different.Finally I told the French man as politely as I could (after waiting a few more minutes to get his attention as he sat behind the counter on his iPad again as I just stood there with the food in hand) I could not eat the food and apologised, I then explained that his menus were very misleading and that I did not expect what I got at all. His response, arrogant to say the least was appalling, he spoke to me in a very disrespectful manor, telling me nobody had ever complained about this dish (I find that hard to believe), he also told me I shouldn't have had it with a poached egg, that it doesn't go and isn't meant to be that way. The poached egg was the least of the worries! After some discussion I finally got a refund for my meal. Appalling service, from a very arrogant and overly confident French man. I will NEVER EVER return to this cafe. To be honest if he continues this way I doubt the cafe will even be there much longer.

Waited 45 minutes for a bacon sandwich despite a large table all getting their full English's before me, why can't you cook my bacon at same time as their bacon. It would have been quicker for me to go to the shop, buy bacon and bread, get the bus home and make it myself. Never going back.

Went in for breakfast. Man behind serving counter on the phone didn't bother to acknowledge us at all. Kept talking. Obviously a personal call. We waited and waited. A large party of workers came in after us and were then served before us even though man serving knew full well we had been waiting. Won't be back.

Went to a French style evening recently. Excellent food, service and ambiance. Would highly recommend this, definitely go there again!!

This place is just like the old style Cafes of Yesteryear albeit without the greasy spoon tag they do a whole range of meal but really excel at Breakfasts as veggies they are very accomadating in this fashion staff are. Both polite and very amicable

Although this litte cafe has been open for some time in Moseley I had not had the plasure of trying it until recently. We went on a Saturday and so glad we did as they offer some special dishes weekends only. Although the menuy sounds very British fry up the reality is very different. They take pride in quality goods freshly prepared to order. We smapled bacon sandwhich, sausage sandwhich and Gillot (a savory pancake) with egg, bacon, tomatoe and mushroom. Also had tea and coffee. The coffee was columbian and very nice would have liked a larger cup but no fault for taste. The gollot was amazing. Frshly made crepe folded into a neat square filled with breakfast. The eggs and bacon were lovely and fresh with wonderful tomatoes and mushrooms. I would have this again no prob.The bacon sandwhich was presented on very thick ut fresh bread but already buttered - same with the sauage. The sausage was not anything like what my daughter is used to and grilled - sadly she did not like it but I do not feel this had anything to do with the quality of the meat. Sauages are seasoned so differently from one to another think she is just used to a different sausage.If your in the area it is worth a visit. It seems to be runb by one person so be patient for your order, worth it when it comes.

The french style pancake with egg & ham was an absolute delight. DeMaines is a hidden gem tucked away in St Mary's Row, a must visit if you want to try that something a little bit different.

Breakfast must have something to do with happiness, and De Mains brings justice to it.

Visited this cafe about six months ago and hearing it had new owners decided to give it another go. We were not disappointed. We had full breakfast and a bacon sandwich. Breakfast really good and my bacon sandwich just as I like it. Really fresh soft bread with real butter and crispy bacon as requested. Two minutes from home so will definitely be back. Look luck to the new owners.

Staff are very friendly, food is delicious, my breakfast was delish!!!! It is a lovely "French" style coffee shop, English breakfast, French food, nice music, lovely atmosphere, a good place to start the day :-) Definitely will go back soon again. I've eaten DeMaine's breakfast several times now, and it's consistently excellent - one of the best I've tasted anywhere. The bacon is done to a turn - never greasy or overcooked, the eggs are delicious, the black pudding and hash browns taste different - somehow lighter - than other breakfasts I've sampled in the area. I think this is because they use olive oil. The service is always prompt and polite and the place has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Overall a really good experience.

Sono andato spesso da DeMaines per la prima colazione e devo dire che mi sono sempre trovato molto bene.E' praticamente un punto di riferimento epr Moseley Village, con ambiente confortevole e personale gentile e simpatico.Il cibo e' semplice e di buona qualita' mentre il prezzo e' decisamente ragionevole. La leggera musica di sottofondo permette di gustare in tutta serenita' gli ottimi piatti, in verita' tutti tipici, che spaziano dalle salsicce con fagioli e beacon alle immancabili varieta' di uova strapazzata.Consigliatissimo a tutti i viaggiatori che si trovano a passare da Moseley.

Nuts to the other people reviewing here! If you want a nice breakfast in Moseley - this is the place to go. Nice ingredients - nice people - and eclectic taste in music. Good place to while away a bit of time. Actually I tend to go there to do work and that's cool as well because they have wifi.

Taking a break from viewing the varied and entertainingly combatative style of driving practiced by the motorists of Moseley, we happened upon DeMaines.Although on the rather bijou side, the interior is both cosy and pleasant. The French gentleman attending the counter exuded gallic insouciance, which added considerably to the atmosphere. I imagine that, after taking our order, he stood out the back smoking Gauloises while sneering at pigeons.I digress.The black pudding and apple galettes were off due to a lack of apples, so I opted for the breakfast galette instead while my fiance ordered the vegetarian one.The cup of tea was pleasant and not 74% milk, which appears to be the standard in cafes across the country. We did have to wait a while for our food so we passed the time discussing Fermi's Paradox (Google it, you shan't be sorry). I should also point out that I was suffering a hangover so unremittingly horrible that it could viably have run for local Councillor as a Tory candidate.I digress.The galette was crisp and cooked evenly through, while the generous quantity of bacon was far better than the greasy mystery-meat which usually accompanies the phrase "All-day breakfast".The real star however was the sausage - sliced prior to cooking (which is how I like it), with a good, dense texture. As for the veggie version, my fiance's evaluation was that it was so good that it left her even hungrier than before (hence the subsequent trip to Poundland in order to purchase a multi-pack of Snaps).On the basis of this trip, I would readily recommend DeMaines of Moseley. Just don't mention Waterloo.

The high standard of customer service has deteriorated since Karl left. Its a place I very often enjoyed visiting for a quiet breakfast and excellent customer service.The music was loud and I had to ask for it to be turned down. Then whilst trying to eat my breakfast in peace the rude waitress proceeded to have a loud conversation with a man in the shop the content of which included much swearing and several references to words that would immediately put you off your food.I was very offended and upset and asked to speak to the manager to make a complaint and to request a refund. The French Manager eventually turned up was rude and he and the waitress shouted at me offering no apology before eventually deciding to refund my money.I will NOT be visiting there again.

I love this little café. It is unpretentious and old fashioned in its dedication to providing simple meals with the best ingredients and a genuinely welcoming smile.If I didn't live so close by I would go there much more often.

Have been here before but was not impressed but noticing it had new owners gave it another go. Very disappointed. Had the large and small breakfast. Bacon tough, eggs with hard yolks and the smallest portion of mushrooms ever. 5 HALVES. One slice of toast with small breakfast is acceptable but would expect two slices on the large. Sausage tasted very cheap. Also, very odd, newspapers in the racks but ALL out of date. Two of them a month old! We always try to support local business but they really have to do better than this. Totally unacceptable.

A fantastic little eatery has gone down hill since Karl has moved on...service and food both poor. Won't be returning.

New owners need to sort out the ventilation (smell of burnt food), make the service quicker, review the new higher prices and stop serving cold backed potatoes with stringy cheese. I wont be back in a hurry

I used to frequent here regularly,I enjoyed the food,I returned there today after a long absence, whilst eating my jacket potato, I found a LIVE maggot on my top! Suffice to say, I wont be returning there again.

We arrived here on a cold January morning and it was as cold inside as it was out, decor pleasant, only a small place but not an issue as we were the only ones in there. Ordered the full English which comes with a hot drink, my friend wanted an orange juice which we were told was at an extra cost, we decided on no drink but wasn't offered any deduction! How does that work? The lady that served us was friendly enough but seemed new to the job as she had to take instruction every step of the way. We heard from the open plan kitchen a scraping noise which I felt sure was the sound of sharpening knives, my partner assured me it was burnt toast, sure enough the toast arrived on a plate that was so hot it was nuclear and received no warning of this - and sure enough scraped burnt toast had arrived 5 minutes before all the other food. When this arrived it was well presented, eggs slight over, sausages long and thin but bacon lovely. Coffee I had was ok. One issue it was COLD. How they manage this with fresh cooked food is a mystery. We would have gone to o'neills who do a fantastic breakfast but we were too early. May just leave breakfast later next time.
