Stumbled across this beautiful cafe by accident. We're very glad we did. The full English was likely one of the best we've ever had. Such a lovely spot. We will definitely be back.

We used the Deer in the Dene for a pub quiz for our running club. Phil and the team looked after us very well. Pizzas were amazing! Good selection of beers and drinks plus cakes if you want them. A fab spot in High Heaton. 100% recommend!

Ordered a takeaway sandwich- waited for 20minutes until I reminded them. I was told the sandwich had cheese in it. Please tell me where is the cheese in this picture. Paid around £6 for bread and coleslaw.

Food is quite expensive for what it is, but nice. A much smaller selection for takeaway compared to what it used to be. Less so a deli and more catered as a coffee place with food

Lovely new local brunch addition. We tried the small full English and we were quite impressed with the sausage - one of the best we ever tried! The mushroom was nice too. However, the fried eggs were both a bit overly cooked and the bacon was a bit cold. The place is cosy and has a nice atmosphere with some lovely cakes. We tried the lemon cake and it was tasty and fresh. Coffee is not bad either and it's dog friendly as well 😉

Caveat: Been coming for years and probably spoilt by the previous prices/quality under the original owners. It was cheap and cheerful. Popped in after the refurb, ordered the usual (flat white, D&D club, cannoli) for comparison. Table service now, a bit disjointed as the menu doesn't include the contents of the counter so you'll have to head over for a look anyway. Mutterings of incorrect orders permeate the air. They've got rid of the varied bread selection, so a much smaller "stottie" bap instead of the usual poppy knot, cold pre-grated "mozzarella" instead of fresh. Pretty predictable; clichéd name change, prices up 30-40% from last year, pointless decor change, cuts in quality, got rid of all the old staff. Post COVID business acquisition 101. Honestly gutted.

Called for coffee and a breakfast sandwich, both were excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

I went here on a Friday night for pizza and it was excellent. The service was excellent, the pizza was possibly one of the best pizza’s I have had in a while! It’s clear new owners are trying to make the cafe better and they are doing a great job!

La comida siempre ha sido excepcional, pero ahora no es bueno y definitivamente no vale la pena la subida de precios. En primer lugar la caja entrar en todo, luego en el momento en que llega a la persona que está haciendo que sea su muy afortunado de obtener lo que ordenó. Siempre ha estado lleno pero sé que está vacío un sábado por la mañana. Estuvimos allí hoy y tuvimos que tomar un sándwich de vuelta ya que el huevo no estaba cocinado inaceptable tbh. Le hemos dado algunas vueltas, pero me temo que ahora tenemos que encontrar una nueva familia para el desayuno del sábado . .

Horriblemente, este solía ser un pequeño lugar tan bueno para venir después de una serie de servicios deficientes que no volveré No me importa que los precios suban y si estás recibiendo el servicio que está bien, pero simplemente no está allí. Los precios ahora son tan caros y la calidad de la comida es buena, pero para lo que está recibiendo no es lo suficientemente bueno más de £ 5 para un sándwich de tocino y huevo con dos pequeños trozos de tocino. Café para llevar 3 / 4 lleno y una capa gigante de espuma, así que básicamente estás recibiendo media taza. Fuga de la taza Tuve que recuperar la pérdida de un poco de café y simplemente pusieron otra taza alrededor de ella. Tomó la familia el fin de semana pasado para probar las nuevas pizzas disponibles ahora que D&Ds está abierto por la noche el fin de semana. Fue increíble. A los niños les encantó. Nos gustó tanto que volvimos este fin de semana. ¡Igual de bien!

Simply and light decor, amazing food, with huge variety! Seems that all is made fresh there daily, you can actually see pizzas made and baked. Is great that prices are kept affordable for such quality! The staff is always so polite and helpful, ,that makes it feel like home, please don't loose this. Although there isn't designated parking, we never had trouble finding something in the neighbourhood. Looking forward to be there every Saturday, while waiting our daughter to finish her activities.

Been a customer for the last 16 years and have never had a complaint but unfortunately the new owner has upset me. Ordered 2 coffees and 2 sandwiches to sit in and was told it was takeaway only. No problem, paid and walked out the door, lots of empty tables outside and thought it would be ok to eat our sandwich’s on one of the plastic table out of takeaway cartons. Owner rudely approached me and my partner stating “we had ordered takeaway sandwiches but are sitting in”. I explained we tried to pay to sit in but were unable to. I would not usually see an issue, but considering there is an increase in price for sit ins, it felt that the owner was implying we had purposely ordered takeaway sandwiches with the intention of paying less. This was not the case. We also had to ask the owner who they were as they never introduced themself when confronting us- as far as we aware it was a random customer who had approached us. It was an unwelcoming experience and I have never been treat this way before. I will not be returning due to this.

Always worth a visit.We shared a sandwich and a chocolate brownie, both were delicious. There's so much choice you're bound to find something that'll take you back for more.

I popped here for a pizza and a pint on my way home and I can’t fault the service i received. The Meat Feast Pizza I had was very tasty. It is great to see the pizza being made right in front of you. I would definitely come back. They are open on a Friday and Saturday evening.

I am sorry to say that the pizza was one of the worst I have ever had anywhere. It was as if it was made by a 5 year old who just mixed water and flour and hoped for the best.. Coffee was nice 👍

Been coming to this cafe for a long time yes staff are sometimes slow but now it has been took over I don’t think I will be back .. can’t even get a straight forward sandwich right loads of staff but nobody working and I think the new owner has cheapened things .

I visited this so-called 'Italian' restaurant that claims everything is "freshly made," but my experience was far from fresh. The bruschetta I received was so tough it seemed like it had been sitting out for a week and then over-microwaved, leaving my hard palate sore. The hot chocolate was equally disappointing. Please save your money and stomach. I would go somewhere else

I have been a customer for many years and have always found the food, atmosphere and service to be of a high standard, nothing has changed. in fact there have been some improvements with some great new ideas The new lady owner is very pleasant always has time for a chat. Ps thanks to all the staff for there kindness keep up the good works

After many happy years of using this local coffee shop we have today had the last straw with the new staff. They have been rude, aggressive and impolite for several weeks now. Pretending they did not understand my partner’s Scottish accent, consistently getting orders wrong. Today I was told that I had not ordered a scone, when I asked if they had forgotten it. We noticed one girl pat a dog, then serve her friend with a free meal and drink, touching the pizza with her doggy hands. Sadly, we won’t be back. Good luck to the new owners. With staff like that, they are going to need it.

We’ve used this bistro regularly for many years and until today have been very pleased. Now under a new owner and it is very disappointing. Empty cabinet with no food on display, lukewarm coffee, paper plate presented with our cannolis, three staff standing around till, serving staff didn’t seem to know who had ordered what, owner walking about seemed more bothered about how the empty tables were reset than helping to deal with the queue that eventually built up. The place was very quiet for a lunchtime so maybe I am not alone with my impression. I am not sure whether I will return

Just been in at 11:15 am only two other people in ordered coffee salad and a toasted ciabatta bread paid and sat down salad came (was very nice) coffee came (very nice ) waited for ciabatta but never came looked over every one to busy chatting then there was a cue at the counter so just left all in all what I had was very nice but service leaves a lot to be desired

Disappointing visit today. I came here at lunch time for a freshly made sandwich, waited 10 mins to place an order and around 15-20 mins for our sandwiches, only for my friend to be given the wrong sandwich. New owners and the old tried and tested methods have not been kept, which is a shame as they worked. I don’t think the pizza slices were warmed in the oven either, they looked soft and anaemic. The pre made feta salad didn’t have any feta in it. I hope this improves and it’s just new owner niggles. Either way, I won’t be rushing back in my lunch break.

Edit Aug 24: The place has changed hands and differences are immediate and apparent. Not as organised, prices up way above inflation (was already pricey but food and service was worth it), quality of ingredients down. Still a decent Deli just not what it was. This was a great place already, there was no need to change anything. I'll be back, just not as frequently.

Took quite a while for the staff to realise that customers, ie us, were waiting to place an order as their gossip seemed significantly more relevant to their remuneration. Once bitten twice shy.

This is a lovely, quirky restaurant with fabulous food and outstanding service. It's a great place to go if you have to visit the Freeman Hospital.

My friends and I called here for lunch. Two of us ordered an open goats cheese and caramelised onion sandwich. It looked delicious behind the counter. When it arrived at the table it had been toasted, which we were pleased about. However, it was so crunchy and hard it was impossible to cut with a knife, and equally impossible to bite through. We decided to try to peel off the crust, but the inside was also hard, the onions were so vinegary and sharp, and the goats cheese so over grilled it was rubbery. I have no idea how such a basic sandwich could go so wrong. After a couple of mouthfuls I left the rest...and I never do that ! As we were running late I didn't discuss with staff . On plus side, really lovely waiter served us.

We had takeaway. my friend loved it. we ate it in her back garden.

Excellent quality sandwiches and authentic Italian sweet pastries. The coffee is incredible too. The prices are very reasonable too. If you've never been, try the pistachio cannoli. Superb!!!

Cannoli are lush, wish they were bigger. Sarnies are brill. Good bread options, all thr trimmings to go with it. First time had takeaway. Second time sat in. Coffee is canny too

Gorgeous food, the selection is huge. The pizza is amazing, sandwiches are lovely, but the showstopper has to be the tray bakes 😍 takes a little while for takeaway orders to be prepared as they are all made fresh but 100% worth the wait.

No dogs allowed so was told I could sit outside . Waited 15 , no-one came out to take my order . Looked in the window several times only to be mocked by a member of serving staff !! Very rude !! Will not appempt to visit again !!

Looked after a large group of cyclists aty the drop of a hat like they do it all day everyday. Excellent service and great food.

I was recommended this by my son who went there with his wife to eat. They are meat eaters and I am vegan. They didn't have anything vegan that I wanted, in fact they didn't have much vegan at all which was disappointing. I had tea which came with soya milk. My wife enjoyed it but she is vegetarian.

Always heaving and you can see why. Food is delicious, service is nice and quick, good all around.

I ordered a breakfast sandwich here a couple of weeks ago. It was wonderful and huge. The coffee was great, and the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. I have been back, and the pastries were very nice also.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon hoping to get a bite to eat for lunch. Plenty of seats to choose from. At the counter, there's almost too much choice - which then translates into a poor execution. We ordered two sandwiches - a D&D and a BBQ chicken. The D&D looked the part, well filled and presentable - but was dry and tasteless. The BBQ Chicken was a fillet placed in the centre of a long roll with some sauce and cheese. It was barely warm leaving me left pretty unsatisfied. The roll was described as a Ciabatta but was in fact just a long soft white roll. Unfortunately - the place left us feeling deflated and not wanting to come back. I've heard good things about the place but maybe we were just unlucky.

Absolutely beautiful chicken salad for lunch which was of very generous proportions. The kids menu for £3.50 was an absolute bargain too. My daughter had pasta bolognaise, a drink and a chocolate chips shortbread and is still stuffed an hour later. My coffee was excellent too. Special mention too to our waitress who's name I didn't catch but who was very friendly and smiley.

We were in the area and needing some lunch. Not knowing the area we found Dean and Danielas on Google Maps. We were so lucky! The lovely friendly welcome and the really delicious and very reasonably priced meal was just perfect - everything we needed and wanted, so thank you so very, very much.

Bacon & sausage stottie and a Cappuccino £6.05 Sat outside nice seats a bit of shade. Cappuccino one of the best I've had , bacon a nice brown and a good sausage topped with brown sauce. Set me up for the day.

Myself and my 2 children visited today whilst waiting for a tyre change at a neighbouring garage. I’ve not been before, and the recent reviews didn’t exactly blow me away, but decided to give it a go. I’m glad we did. There is plenty of space inside, more than I realised, and there was a light buzz from the filled seats. We were served straight away by a friendly member of staff, who was happy to wait whilst my kids assessed the full extent of sweet treats that were available! With choices of cakes, tray bakes, numerous cannoli’s as well as scones, then choices of teas, coffees, fruit juices and fizzy drinks, there was plenty of choice for everyone! We settled on a chocolate cake, crunchie biscuit slice and a scone with jam and cream. I had a double shot mocha whilst the kids had apple and orange juice. All in all, it came to £15.70. Which doesn’t seem too bad considering the juice drinks were £2.65, so a pretty good price. Our food and drink was brought to our table, and everything tasted great. The coffee was lovely, and is definitely not just instant as has been previously described. The beans were brewed as I was paying, so I can be sure if this. Lovely place to visit. Killed an hour of our time; and the kids were happy. We would come back again.

the layout of service doesn't seem that efficient. there is plenty staff ready to serve but 1 person does everything, (takes order, makes coffees, makes sandwiches, takes payment) this makes the wait much longer than it should be as they can end up actually waiting to make coffee, use the grill etc. if they had one person on each station and an efficient ticketing order system then the speed would dramatically increase. seems like a no brainer? nice bacon stottie

Slow, sloppy, rude staff … Abominable service from pathetic staff who would rather chat in the back of the cafe and hide out of site! Food is terrible and almost inedible. Tried to give this place a chance to become better on 2 orb3 occasions. But sadly it just seems to get worse. My partner had food poisoning from there last month, so never been back since! Give this place a miss if you like your coffee and food served with a smile and not a visit to the hospital! Don’t know how this place hasn’t been closed by a health inspector yet! The staff changes regularly… no effing wonder!

Coffee used to be lovely, but now both the ordinary and decaf pretty tasteless, watery milk, waste of money really, better sticking with tap water! Menu just the same. Seems quite a turnover in staff.
