Nice venue but was quite when I went

A Newcastle classic. Good beers, great cocktails. Terrace is always lively in summer too.

Was an amazing atmosphere the only detrimental factor was the bigot bouncer who subjected my friend to unnecessary abuse and social appropriation defining his unprofessionalism this was on the 22/11/24

Decent place, good range of beers at not excessive prices, friendly service. Not a lot of atmosphere but it might be better at weekends.

Okay, so... the drinks menu at this bar is in a state of continuous evolution. However, bar staff - such as Matty - are legends in the bar scene and have the wealth of knowledge and skill to remember the classics, even when off the menu. Five of us in today, and the bar heroes - again, Matty. Remember that name, that man is skilled - has made all of our favourite drinks monthsand in some cases years since they've left the menu. Don't be misleaded. If the bar is rammed, then don't be that guy/gal. Thwybe got people to serve. But, this team and this bar WILL find you a drink you love.

One of my favorite bars. Bartenders are always nice and polite, there is a friendly atmosphere. The only minus is the lack of any snacks, for example crisps.

Staff have been polite and professional, popular bar for people to start their night. Been smashed in there a few times.

After being recommended this bar by the restaurant last night we were told at 22 50 by the impolite doorman that we were not allowed in as they were closing shortly this was obviously untrue the closing time on a Saturday is 2am . We are five ladies that came to celebrate our 60th birthdays. The only reason I can think for the refusal was our age we weren’t drunk we were well dressed and wanted to finish the night with a cocktail or two. We had a great time in Newcastle and did not experience this anywhere else. Could the management please confirm do you age discriminate are you not allowed in your bar after you hit a certain age??!! I have never experienced this before.

Since Bierrex (god rest its soul) closed, this is the only place worth visiting for a couple of craft beers or cocktails. The outside street seating area is lovely on a summer's afternoon. The staff are great and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Can get quite busy, particularly on event days, and the toilets could do with a bit of TLC, but all in all it's a great place with plenty of seating over three floors and two bars serving some fantastic drinks.

Cracking bar! Fired down two turbo pints before heading off to a gig. Not perhaps a joint I'd go to regularly (I tend not to drink in town much) however the vibe was class, punters friendly and beer prices whilst not cheap, weren't actually that extortionately priced compared to other central bars.

A nice little bar with a great selection of beers and cocktails. The balcony is also quite the sun trap and quite relaxing too. The decor is looking like it could do with a little refresh but all in all worth a visit

Lovely medium sized bar. 3 floors, top floor with a outside balcony. Good music, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Lovely staff.

I’ve loved coming to Alvinos for years but today has been a particularly wonderful experience. As soon as we rocked up to the bar Emilli welcomed us with an infectious smile. It wasn’t long before we met another member of the team, Liv. Liv made the effort to make us feel welcomed and it was amazing to have such a genuine, open, honest and lively conversation: a true diamond who is a pleasure to chat with. We cannot express enough how much we were made to feel valued not just as customers but as individuals. You have a great team but those two ladies went above and beyond. Thank you until we venture through your doors again.

Nice bar but unfortunately the bins below the terrace were putting out a terrible smell maybe due to the heatwave.

I recently spent the weekend in Newcastle last weekend for my sisters birthday. After many recommendations we chose to stop by at Alvinos for some cocktails- and it did not disappoint!!! The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the cocktails were fantastic. The range of choice on the menu is much better than any other bars we visited on our trip and the whole vibe of the place just made it that much better. Would definitely recommend it to anyone fancying a good bev, good atmosphere and to be served by great staff!! Cheers to all x

Waited 5 mins to be served whilst badly trained staff served people in the wrong order. Finally grumpy person served us, when asked for a coffee told 'well, you'll have to wait ". 10 mins later the coffee arrived, cold. Had to wait another five mins to order hot water to revive it. No please or thank you from the robotic and bland staff who clearly are not suited to dealing with customers.

I’d been in for about an hour and ordered a couple of rounds of drinks, spending around £40. The third round was where it all went wrong… I ordered the cocktail requested by one of my companions and, having noticed on the menu that it said something like, ‘or ask for one of your favourites’, meaning presumably, a classic drink not on the set menu. Being a fan of a specific spirit, and under the impression these guys must know what they were doing, I asked the two staff behind the bar if they knew any cocktails with it in. They had a chat amongst themselves and didn’t come back to me with anything. When the drink I had ordered was put in front of me, I was asked “can I get you anything else?”. At which point I assumed there was no chance of a drink containing the spirit I mentioned. Never mind, I asked for a Harvey Wallbanger instead. This is a drink I’ve ordered in anything from cocktails bars to grotty pubs and I think I’ve only encountered one other person who didn’t know what it was. In a state of mild panic, the two staff googled it and set about their work. The round of drinks was quite pricey, I assume because they didn’t know what to put it through as, but it’s not exactly cheap here anyway so I went with it. I returned to my seat, and tried the drink to find it tasted absolutely revolting. It was some coffee/fresh orange hybrid. My Britishness led me to try it again to see if I could politely solider on with the Franken-drink but another sip told me it just wasn’t possible. I googled “Galliano” and “coffee” to find that a coffee version of Galliano exists. I went to the bar and pointed out what had happened and the barman that created the monstrosity seemed mildly annoyed and just said he didn’t know how to make it. I said I would just have a pint “instead”. Once the pint was pulled, I was presented with a card reader and the words “seven pounds forty”. When I explained that it wasn’t my mistake and I’d already paid £8+ for a drink I didn’t get, the reply was “it’s not my fault, you watched me make it”. After a short conversation, I had to admit defeat. Served in a cocktail bar by staff (there were two involved) who know literally nothing about cocktails and have no idea about customer service. I’ve work in pubs and would genuinely fear for my life if my manager had got wind of incompetence and ignorance towards customers on this scale. The end result was, I gathered up the group of 10 other people that were with me and we left immediately. Average price of £7.50 a drink, 10 people, a minimum of 2-3 rounds more in us but potentially a full night. That’s literally hundreds of pounds walking out the door because you made a mistake and insisted that the customer pay for it. I don’t even know where to start with how much is wrong with that but I’ll certainly never be back and hopefully the people I was with think twice too. To not have an idea about cocktails when working in a cocktail bar is one thing, although a bit of a worry when it’s your job and there’s two of you. To treat and talk to a paying customer like that is just mind-blowing. I appreciate that writing a tripadvisor review to vent after a bad experience can be a bit petty but I was nothing but polite to the staff. The whole thing just smacked of people who shouldn’t be working in hospitality. Even though it was their fault, if you choose to decide it wasn’t, the standard response would usually be; make it right, keep everyone happy and the call the customer whatever you want afterwards. Not leave someone with an undrinkable drink, blame them, talk to them rudely and let a load of money walk out of the door. Crazy.

I love Alvino's. They do some of the most original cocktails that I've come across along with some really good beers too. It always looks closed from the outside, but it's well worth a visit, it's a little pricey, but well worth it.

Nice pints on tap and fantastic music. Only thing: No crisps - but the bar staff said to go and get some from the nearby shop. Would definitely go back.

No good visiting if you are disabled. Access is very poor. You can only get into the bottom bit by the bar. Where there are 6 stools fastened to floor. Stools unusable by disabled people.

Vengo aquí desde hace años. Hay algo sobre el diseño (planta baja / entrepiso / arriba / azotea) y cómo puede ser de alguna manera loco pero sin pretensiones. La terraza de la azotea, aunque no tiene vistas, es una zona agradable y tranquila, pero la razón principal por la que vendrás aquí es por los cócteles. Dios mío, los cócteles. . .

Great place very friendly and with excellent service. Did not get there till 12am doorman was very fast getting people through the door, very polite and chatty as well.

Great beers and cocktails. Wonderful service from the staff. Nice atmosphere and a good range of music played, if some time's to loudly on certain nights of the week. They also do great coffees and lacquer coffees. It is also attracts an older age group as you are made welcome. I speak from experience as I am one of the older age group.

[Prior to Lockdown] Delicious cocktails and mocktails, some one the best in Newcastle. Even if the service area can be a little cramped, it gives an exciting atmosphere and the staff remain attentive and entertaining.

Would not recommend this place , ordered a cocktail seemed like a chore to do every thing seemed hard work . No enthusiasm no customer service. I have been many times before and it has always been a lively place to go. The staff member girl you have working their with the belfast accent i think needs alot of training around customer service and body language rolling eyes and sighing when you have paying customers is just not what i think Alvinos needs. Maybe a re shuffle on tired staff is needed.
