We attended a wedding in York and this was the group hotel. Every member of the staff we encountered was charming and helpful. Even when we re- arranged the seating in the bar area to fit everyone in. We only ate breakfast, and it was really good. A great choice of cold and cooked at various prices, ours was included ! Room was comfortable and the shower was fantastic !

This hotel exceeded all expectations! We were a large group and presented the hotel with some unprecedented challenges. They rose above and beyond all expectations. The staff is so very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Special shout out to Frank! The location could not be matched- directly across the road from York Minster. My room was large and airy- it was a bit warm in the afternoons but they provided a portable a/c unit and a Dyson tower fan. The bathroom was renovated and lovely. Only complaint, if one can call it that, was that there were no drawers in the room. Cooked to order breakfast was excellent. Onsite bar and restaurant. A bit pricey but I could not have asked for a better location or more convenience.

Visited today for an impromptu lunch - absolutely fantastic, the food was wonderful as was the service. Would definitely recommend and come back. Used a Travelzoo voucher which was a great deal, but would be happy to pay full price. Amazing views of the minster and lovely relaxed dining experience.

I went for dinner with my sister and had the most lovely evening. The table we were seated at had the most amazing view of The Minster! Surely the best table in York! We used a Travelzoo voucher for the meal (2 starters, 2 mains & 2 hot drinks for £35 - incredible value!) and the food was absolutely spot on! Really gorgeous! I also must mention the fabulous staff, Erin & Gery, who waited at our table were an absolute joy! It was a fabulous experience & we loved every minute. Thank you!

Had a great two-night stay here. Next time, we plan to stay longer. All the staff members at reception were warm and welcoming and they had actually upgraded us to a bigger room. We travel so much and nobody has done that before! The older gentleman at reception showed us around the ground floor and to the elevator, and he was super polite. Our room had a view of the park and York Minster to the left and was very comfy and clean. The only thing missing was a full length mirror, but no biggie. Also, while the two gentlemen serving breakfast were polite, a smile would have been nice. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices.

While staying at the hotel me and my family utilised the restaurant for ease and good looking quality options , I’m vegan so opted for the Spring Tabbouleh Salad of pearl couscous, chickpeas, sprouting broccoli, broad beans, peas, mint, coriander, radishes and pomegranate seeds however when arrived missing a few items which also happened on my mums who ordered the trout so may of been seasonal as it looked they locally sourced the produce, it want a big deal however would of elevated the dishes or would of liked to be informed as some of the ingredients are what made us order the dishes so slightly disappointing when not arrived but didn’t want to cause a fuss and all enjoyed especially the dessert which we shared Chocolate Mousse made With coconut cream and honeycomb Plus the Orange & Almond Cake With chocolate blood orange ice cream both vegan not that you would know and faultless The service and view were a lovely setting g and welcome to York after a 2 hour drive for a weekend stay and great start to the trip Breakfast the next day was also faultless , great variety and enough to set you up for the day ,well organised however we went early to miss the rush so recommend keeping that in mind but caters for different dietary needs too

We wanted a few nights away pre -christmas as we both work in hospitality. We couldnt get a room, which is why we gave it 4. However we were made to feel very welcome. As staff i get discounted food and drinks. The food was delicious, served in a timely manner by attentive staff. Breakfast was delicious, we had eggs benedict and eggs royale and we had 4 perfectly poached eggs. Everywhere was spotless.Special mentionto Gemma, Ben & Frank, who took their time to listen and answer our questions. There was another front of house team member whose name i didnt catch put on the hotel watts app that we were expected and we were staff so we didnt have to go thru rigmarole of identification when we went in. Well done to the whole team x

Stayed here on 14-9-23 and what a fabulous experience. Upgraded to a suite (room17) on arrival which was amazing and had a fantastic view. Drinks at bar were first class and reasonably priced, booked evening meal which was again first class and breakfast next day was one of the best and spout for choice. Big shout out to general manager(Steve I think) and Gary who was on bar and restaurant, could not have done more for us and were very friendly. Also to the lady on reception when checking in who upgraded us and the tall guy with silver/grey hair( sorry didn’t get names) who were also very friendly and helpful. 2nd time here in two weeks and will be back in late October, definitely recommend it👍

Prime location but come nightfall the drug/alcohol dependent, rough-sleeping community of York appear to congregate in the park opposite. Whilst not directly threatening it was somewhat of an unsavoury ‘show’. Hotel room extremely clean with a lovely shower and large bed; however it was just so warm it made sleeping, on a not even particularly warm night, pretty uncomfortable. The air-con unit with tumble dryer type hose shoved out of bedroom window wasn’t exactly attractive and so noisy one could not possibly leave it running. Reception staff lovely. Breakfast adequate but nowhere near enough staff. One poor girl was doing the vast majority of the work whilst her foreign counterpart took a rather more ‘relaxed’ approach to his work. Hmmmm. We would not stay again.

We are fairly local to York but have never eaten in the Dean Court. However aware that it is now owned by the Inn Collection (IC) whose other hotels and pubs we have used in the Lake District and Northumberland we thought we would give it a try (also had the extra incentive of a very good value Travelzoo offer) The interior is smart but not too formal, Alison who looked after us did a great job with plenty of patience whilst everyone decided what they were drinking, and then eating (we were a party of 8) We were sat at a long table with views out of the window of the Minster (you couldn’t really ask for a better location/view). There were enough choices on the menu to satisfy everyone, and whilst we had a little bit of a wait, it was accepted given that the food was all obviously freshly cooked. For a city centre location in an international tourist city like York we all felt the prices were reasonable and the quality good - not quite fine dining but certainly better than ‘pub grub’. A previous reviewer expected linen napkins….the Inn Collection are not aspiring to offer fine dining in most of their establishments, they are creating a comfy pub/bar environment which we thought the Dean Court achieves. There are places in York where white linen napkins can be found, but expect to pay far more for food that often doesn’t justify the cost. Nor do many of the alternatives offer the views and ambience for 8 friends to get together as the Dean Court does. Only negative about the evening was a lack of real ale / craft on the bar. Surprising really as this is something that the IC certainly offer in most of their Lakes establishments, supporting Cumbrian breweries and offering a great beverage pairing for the quality pub food that they serve. We will certainly look to visit the Dean Court again, and thanks once again to Alison for looking after us

My husband and I have just spent 3 nights in this lovely hotel. It is situated directly across from the main entrance to York Minster - this must be the best located hotel in York! We had a front facing room which was a good size, the bathroom had a very large walk-in shower with 2 shower heads - it was excellent. Toiletries were also provided. The beds were very comfortable and 3 pillows per bed were supplied. Also there were tea & coffee making facilities as well as a hairdryer. The hotel also has in place a ‘save the planet’ initiative, whereby if you forego the maid service including daily change of towels and bedding (which for 3 days was perfectly acceptable to us) the hotel provided us with 2 large glasses of wine on 2 nights free of charge!! We thought that this was an excellent idea. The breakfast provided a very good choice of hot and cold food. All the staff were extremely polite and helpful. Steve, the assistant manager even helped us with our heavy cases on the morning we left. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Easy booking, valet parking, clean room, free internet, pleasant and genuinely friendly staff. We had a wonderful stay, even though we intended to visit York Cathedral and it was closed with a Netflix film crew there. The city had a large pedestrian district and lot to see and do. Back at the hotel, we had burgers (very good) and we saw a fellow diner’s fish and chips, which looked great. My one issue was the rhubarb crumble, which seemed to have very little rhubarb and a topping that resembled porridge rather than crumble. Tasty enough to eat but not to order again. Still, a great experience overall, and we’ll be back since I still want to see the cathedral and this is clearly the best location in town. Great hotel.

Ok, so we booked during the day we wanted two rooms for that night, and it was fairly central in York. On arrival we were told to park outside and they would arrange parking collection - well we got a ticket! Then parking was an extra £25 for the night. Our two rooms cost £295 and £319 or thereabouts, I think that included continental breakfast. I attach an image of the view from my window, my friend's room didn't have a window! Even though it was only for one night, I felt the charges were rather excessive. The hotel was ok but nothing exceptional and definitely not worth £600+..

Was visiting York for 2 nights and being a once-native of York, decided to try the Dean Court. The first night, Thursday, we were allocated a spacious, clean, well decorated double room at the front with a view of the Minster. It was very windy, and while expecting some outside noise given York’s nightlife, we were actually kept up all night with the fairy lights on the front of the hotel rattling against something (there was a bit of noise from a drunken Brian declaring his never-ending love for Stacey at beer-volume but otherwise nothing too bad). Mentioned the fairy light noise (bit Grinchy) to reception in the morning to see if they could tie the lights up or something to reduce the noise. However, the reception team were very keen to ensure we didn’t have a repeat sleepless night and at their initiative did everything they could to arrange a quieter room for the second night. In between guests checking out, they coordinated with us to show us other rooms and then after the alternative room had been cleaned, ensured we were moved seamlessly with just a quick pack/unpack on our side. The room we moved to had no windows, but was very quiet, well decorated, clean and ideal for our needs. Would choose this one next time (room 3). Thanks so much to the reception day team (sorry - was going to catch names but they weren’t around when we checked out). Fantastic service ethos. Breakfast was fairly quick and decent quality, didn’t try the bar on this trip.

This is the restaurant in the Dean Court Hotel. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre bar (pub) food. What should be a fine dining restaurant isn't. There's a reason why The Ivy and Bettys at St Helen's Square are full and the restaurant at the Dean Court is empty. Breakfast was almost entirely self-serve. The hot cooked-to-order items arrived too quickly to actually be freshly made. Lunch and dinner isn't much better. I ordered the soup of the day. It was brought out so hot that I couldn't eat it for about 10 minutes. They must have poured it out of a can and tossed it in a microwave for a couple extra minutes. The bread that was served with the soup were two thin slices of bread that looked like whatever was left from the self-serve breakfast buffet. No water was served. The napkin was a thin paper napkin. The waiter had to be chased down to bring the bill in a mostly empty restaurant. Nero or Costa would have been better. The only reason to eat here is if you're a hotel guest and stuck without a table at any of the better restaurants in York.

We did not stay here but dropped in today for a simple bar lunch. We each chose a sandwich with salad and chips asking for the cranberry sauce to be served on the side rather than in the sandwich itself. We waited a long time for the food to appear and when it did I have to say that it certainly was not as expected in what is supposed to be an upmarket hotel in the city centre. The sandwich was made with soggy sliced supermarket bread ; the cranberry sauce was not on the side as requested but was spread between the two slices of bread! The sandwiches supplied in the meal deals available in the supermarket chains are certainly of a higher quality than those served in the Dean Court today! The waiters were cheerful and friendly but it is not usual or even polite to clear away one person’s plate while others are still eating.I do think the establishment needs to think about the general appearance of their serving staff and supply them with better quality and smarter clothing. Needless to say as residents of York we shall not be returning to the Dean Court Hotel

The location of this hotel is ideal, as it is across from the Minster. My room was quite spacious and overlooked a small park, with the Minster to the left. I was intimidated by the old-fashioned bathroom fixtures at first, but the tub had strong, secure hand grips and a great shower head, so all was good. The breakfast menu had good choices and other items were available as part of a light buffet. Dinners also were nice - the broccoli Stilton soup was fabulous. When I inadvertently arrived late for breakfast and was told the kitchen was closed, the manager made sure I had a cooked breakfast. The front desk staff also were very accommodating. I definitely will stay here again and will recommend this hotel to friends.
