We decided to go to Davey's had a lovely roast would Defoe go again and recommend to friends service was great and friendly

Went in as a family of four and was given a table for six, Had a lovely roast dinner. No issues at all and friendly polite service by staff and management. Will go again for sure.

When visiting my brother-in-law & sister in law we always have breakfast here. Fantastic choice and excellent food at a great price. The staff are wonderful and always ensure your happy with your order choices. This establishment is clean and has high standards and always worth a visit if your on holiday in clacton. ¿Qué puedo decir sobre este lugar aparte de el menú y especiales de la junta son buenos; los platos son de buena calidad (y son muchos); desayunos caseros muy buenos y se pueden adaptar a sus necesidades, así como muchos otros platos.

De hambre y no podía encontrar en ningún lugar que twitched mi nariz. Pasado el restaurante fechas y poca olía delicioso. Mujeres detrás de mí tenía carne pastel de riñón pero no n un gran fan de los riñones. Así que me decidí a asado del día, lo cual era de ternera o cerdo con coliflor, repollo, patatas cocidas, y patatas asadas. Las patatas que estaba para morirse. Coliflor perfectamente preparado me gusta la mía poco crujiente. Sólo su lado malo era que la carne estaba un poco como lo de microondas ternera comida y no el mejor. Pero el personal era muy amable. Sin duda volveremos aquí de nuevo.

As always had a great lunch...with friends..food excellent value for money..after all it is a cafe..but very nice.

Well worth a visit for proper home cooked traditional meals. Nothing fancy but good, value for money food. Proper chips! Jelly and ice cream. What a treat.

Good food well cooked in a friendly but very cramped area. Tables are very close together and the place is usually quite full, an indication of the quality of the food.

Found the cafe just off the sea front, we had a warm welcome, staff were all friendly. We ordered three big breakfast with fresh orange juice, the food was quick in coming out and was enjoyable.The problem was when the bill came, it was the best side off £30 and that's expensive in anyone's book

Went there for Sunday breakfast. Took nearly 25mins to be acknowledged by a member of staff. I was just thinking of leaving when I was eventually noticed. Once my order was in food came reasonably quickly and was ok. Decided not to ask for a second cups as I didn't have all day. Appeared understaffed at time of my visit shame

I was visiting Clacton from a nearby holiday park, and my daughter and I were hungry for lunch. We stumbled upon Daveys and gave it a go. The menu contained all the basics that you would expect from a seaside cafe, with nothing flash (or Gluten-free hurray!), i.e. it wasn't a pretentious place. My daughter had a baked potato with beans and cheese, and I ordered a roast dinner (beef). Her potato was a generous portion and was served with a fresh crispy salad. My roast was simple: roast potatoes, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, beef and gravy ..... And it was ok. In fact, I would go as far to say that the roast potatoes were the best I have ever had, and that includes high-end restaurants. However, the beef was a bit disappointing - sliced incredibly thinly, cooked well-done and quite cold, and there was nowhere near enough gravy, even though I asked for extra (Hence the 4, rather than 5 star review). But all in all, it was great value for money, and the staff were not unfriendly.

Highly recommended that you reserve a table by the time we had our meal there was 6 people waiting.The staff were very friendly and helpful.We ordered within 5 minutes of sitting.The starters were soup pate and two mushrooms in garlic, all were very tasty and arrived nice and hot, the pate was excellent.The main meals were cod and chips twice which was lovely piece of white fish and chips of which a comment was one of the nicest they had had.The mixed grill was perfect except the lamb could of done with a few seconds more cooking but passable.Lastly was a lamb roast dinner which was plentiful and a decent meal.Banana split and ice cream were chosen for sweet.The prices were very competitive and value for money.

I have been to Daveys many times over the years and it doesn't fail to dissapoint. the place has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are more than welcoming and attentive. I would certainly recommend this restaurant/cafe to anybody visiting the Clacton area!

The food and the cafe itself i cannot fault, they're lovely.What I can fault is the appalling customer service received, rude, frosty staff (including one older lady who shall remain nameless) who genuinely didn't seem to want to be there and even less enthusiastic about serving us. I have spoken to other customers who had a similar experience with her who told us to "just ignore her" but I didn't feel this good enough, so decided to boycott it altogether. I will not go somewhere where I am made to feel unwelcome and in the way. I work in customer service and always put on a smile, even if I don't feel like it.

Very friendly and helpful people and the quality of food always is 100 percent. I highly recommend this restaurant.

What a great place, never been before and from the outside I didn't expect much but was total surprised. The staff were extremely friendly, the prices were very cheap in comparison to the portion sizes and quality of food. My only down side to this restaurant was too many tables and chairs but I suppose due to the popularity of the restaurant I can see why they have so many. Would definitely recommend and will be going again.

never mind honouring film actors etc. theyve had their day. But Daveys has been around since I was a child (60 years ish)ago.I remember I loved it.Nothing seems to have changed,proper food(steak and kidney pie (With kidney) lovely seaside fish and chips,never mind what you had to eat it was always perfectly fresh, they are ALWAYS busy so the food turns over very quickly and is therefore always excellent. In Clacton and you havent eaten at Daveys, you dont know what you're missing my wife and go there whenever we can if only to see Elaine who is gods gift to waitressing and a lovely lady xxI cannot speak to highly of everyone involved , they DESERVE to be honoured,not actors,actresses and pop singers who work "tirelessly" for charity and all the nonsense that goes with it to be knighted ,yes KNIGHTED!!for earning fortunes and mixing with shady people.No ,Daveys cook excellent food for real people, in clean surroundings .GOOD ON THEMKeep up the good work , you deserve all the praise that I know and honourably deserveluv you all and all your foodand if I could give you 10 stars I would.

What a wonderful place ! Been there several times and can't fault anything ! The food is out of this world, its probably cheaper than many of the cafes around, and although twice I've had to queue for a few minutes for a seat its worth the wait. I suppose its always a good sign when all the local cafes are empty but there's a queue for a seat here ! Been there twice with friends when they've been to visit Clacton, and even they still mention how surprised they were at how good Davey's is! Can't recommend it highly enough !

Visited pre Pantomime on 19th December in the afternoon, Not sure if Daveys is a café, restaurant or my mums front room !!What I mean is excellent service, excellent food, good old fashioned food cooked just the way you like it.Daveys is well worth a visit and will definitely go again Thanks

Been going to Davey's for years now, ever since I discovered how good it was. This has to be one of the best cafes in Essex, if not in Britain. It is inexpensive enough for me, an OAP, to go there every day for breakfast or dinner, and every Sunday for a roast, but it's classy enough to go for those special events, birthdays and such like. It can't be faulted in any way for the food, the choice, and cleanliness. If you're in Clacton there's really no point going anywhere else !

We popped into Davies today for lunch. I opted for sausage mash carrots & cabbage. Hubby had liver bacon, chips & pea's. Both were served with onion gravy.Both meals were pleasant. Good portion sizes, nice & hot.I ask our waitress for more gravy as I do like lots, with no hesitation she returned with a nice size gravy jug.My only nag is that there was pepper in my mash, I would prefer to season my food myself. Good food. Good service. Clean basic interior. Good prices. The menu choices are quite old school, traditional English meals that you're gran would of made.Nice to find an old English traditional restaurant.

Food was good but the service was sporadic. The service was slow so as we were on lunch break I wouldn't go at lunch-time again.

we came across by accident went inside it was packed the sunday roast was excellent and the afters was excellent we then went back serveral times and tryed other meals on offer and you can order your meal and collect it later to take home

Food is ok but over priced, although the table and chairs are nice, it is very cramped and not very comfortable, staff dont seem happy.

My dad and I used to be regular visitors to Davies, sadly we don't go that often now, though no fault of Davies... But when we do go it's always very good a d a lovely friends restaurant where nothing's too much trouble. I alway opt for lasagna and either salad or chips and sometime both! The portion sizes are good and good value for money. I always make sure I have room for dessert my favourite is spotty dick and custard which isn't always on the menu however the staff always check to see if there's a rouge one hiding. Dinner at Davies reminds me of dinners my man used to make, good old heartly dinners.

We arrived 10 minutes before they were closing but we're still able to order three hot meals, including one child-sized roast dinner and drinks for all. The staff were friendly and non-intrusive and didn't make us feel we needed to rush just because they were closing. Really tasty food at a reasonable price that didn't break the bank. Lovely!

Thought the potion size wasn't great and was very overpriced. We will not return as it wasn't what we expected. Staff were a little rude and it was quite noisy

Found this restaurant whilst strolling round so we gave it a try.Excellent food, prices and staff who greet you with a smile and great service. Food is home cooked, a good varied menu and excellent value for money, will visit again soon and can highly recommend to anyone.

Visited Daveys restaurant whilst spending the day in Clacton on a weekend away in the area.It was a Sunday and after several unsuccessful attempts at finding a fish and chip shop or a pie and mash shop which opens on a Sunday, we resorted to Daveys as it was open.We were a table of four and the food we had between us was ham, egg and chips (x2) and cod, chips and peas (x2).All the food was very tasty. The chips are 'real chips' i.e. not frozen and/or oven, real, thick-cut, deep fried, tasty chips.I have knocked one star off as I think the menu is slightly over priced for what you get and I would have expected to get two fried eggs with the ham, egg and chips plate whereas you only get one.Our waitress was quite surly on first impressions but this added to the experience in a good way (for us). I did have a bet on that we wouldn't see her smile whilst we were there but I did lose this bet - albeit she was laughing and joking with the other waitresses, I didn't see a smile once at the table :)

Found this nice small restaurant on a side street, served a really good home cooked meal, would go back when visiting clacton again and would recommend.good value for money.

Good food and decent service, good if you are happy to spend time with OAPs who go there regularly. Decent menu and well cooked.

At the time my sister and I went for lunch last summer,the food very good, and very good friendly service, but at that time they only sold rose wine in little bottles, they may sell full size bottles by now as it is getting very popular.

Enjoying a family weekend break in sunny Clacton. Looking for a good value family friendly option for an early dinner. Actually picked up on Daveys via Trip Advisor. We weren't disappointed in any way. The restaurant is light, bright and airy, 5 mins stroll from the seafront. There's a wide variety of food options including a selection of specials. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. Everything we had was perfectly cooked. They offer an extensive breakfast menu and lunch options too. The restaurant is licensed for drinks with your meal. We were there on a Saturday, last meal orders were taken by 6pm which is something to bear in mind. I highly recommend Daveys as a totally satisfying family friendly option. Please enjoy.

Love this place. Great specials for example Steak with Garlic butter or fresh Cod strips with chips and salad. This time I had the mixed grill (steak, liver, pork chop, lamb chop, sausage, egg, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and excellent chips. Good range of desserts as well. Only open during the day but always reliable and always enjoyable

Yet another excellent restaurant discovered via tripadvisor It was full of day trippers and locals who all knew the waitresses Food very good value and cooked fresh excellent chips. Would visit again on our next trip to Clacton

Many thanks to Dean and staff, for a wonderful party, laid on for my husband Bobs 60th birthday. Great food, full Christmas dinner in June! Nothing too much trouble, all our requests dealt with. All the guests were delighted with their meals, and the bill at the end of the night was reasonable. Would certainly have another "family do" there.

Four of us had our main meal here on Sunday 10th. The restaraunt was clean and very busy. After ordering our meal from a really good and varied menu, we didn't have to wait too long at all considering the restaraunt was packed. The waitress was attentive and the food was presented well and tasted delicious. Reasonably priced too. We will definitely be returning when we visit our son again. A great find!

I have frequented this restaurant for four years now and I've never had a bad meal or poor service. First class, first rate and probably the best English restaurant in Clacton

I have been going to this restaurant since I was in my 30's and I'm now 52 and the food is excellent. Staff friendly and prices stay the same. Today we visited as had to pop to Thorrington so after that next step was Daveys. Both my husband and I had 3 course meal each and really lovely. My favourite place to eat I wish I lived nearer

Used to get good food here, and am usually easily satisfied. My omelette was cooked on a griddle - greasy and flat, of melted plastic consistency, and my chips tasted like roast potatoes. I ordered chips because I don't like roast potatoes! Oh, and one of those tiny bottles of wine (3 for £10 at Morrison's) costs £6 here! No wonder they can always find room for you(!) Waitress needs a go at charm school.

Basic place ,nice food ,and price seats a bit crammed in my mum and dad eat here a lot I had roast beef which was nice my husband had the fish and chips which he said was nice ,staff very nice .

We used to go to Daveys every weekend but gradually noticed the food was not as good as it used to be. Hadn't been in there for a few months but thought I would pay another visit , which was a mistake. Food took around 20 mins to turn up even though the restaurant was not busy. My omelette was Luke warm and toast was cold and rock hard. My son got his toast after he had eaten half of his breakfast. I won't be going back as the food is not enjoyable anymore , god knows what they do to the toast to make it so hard and off putting when the butter just sits on the top yuk.

Lovely food,was very busy tho,very popular with the OAP's ideal place to take anyone in their older generation! Food it's well portioned,and was very clean in there,I did find one of waitress's moody,as if she's doing you a favour by her serving you! I won't be put off by her rudeness! So I will be visiting again!

Today at approx 11 25 unable to be a customerReason told can't be seated at window although you only had 3 customers As your waitress said you were going to be BusyShe was aware we arrived she Never acknowledged us. She Watched as we went to a table near Window with Reserved on table. So we moved to another table Albeit having 6 seats. We were told couldn't sit there as you were going to be Busy !I have been dining in your restaurant for 7 years and Never been made to feel unwelcome.We left and ate at The Olive Tree.

Don't be put off by the staff, the service is first class. A mixed clientele so when I ordered waited with trepidation. Cumberland sausage, mash and vegetables. Unbelieveable, the vegetable portions were superb, fresh not frozen, al dente, for £6.20 no complaints. Will use Daveys regularly when I move to Clacton permanently.

If you want a real home cooked meal that doesn't cost a lot, then visit Daveys. Yummy food , clean & tidy, very welcoming relaxed atmosphere . I would recommend this place not only is it all that I've described but the staff are polite & do not rush you in anyway.

Visited by accident, just across this little restuarant. It's frequented by the mature clientele, but they know their stuff.Excellent food , fantastic service and great value for money !!!

My partner and I had a full English and although the bacon was better quality than other places it was still fairly average.Really clean table but the waitress could have smiled....

Excellent cafe, I visited here many years ago as a child and was so happily surprised this has survived, brings back memories of how a restaurant used to be when on holiday lovely clean warm atmosphere excellent food and big portions, I will return when shopping next in town my mum and child will love it many thanks keep up the good work :-)

Great place to eat during the day,good home cooked food.Staff a little distant,although regulars seemed to be treated in a different way.Suppose should visit more often,may get treated better,but no complaints about food.

This is a very good daytime cafe. I had brunch here, the food was very good and very generous portions. I'm not into fancy restaurants and this place definitely isnt fancy, but its clean and comfortable. The staff are efficient and although not the friendliest I have no real complaints there either. Parking near by is poor but if you're in town anyway id recommended it. The chips here are my favourite over anywhere else I can think of!

Nice to see they have special menu`s to order from as well as a set menu, they also serve alcohol. Not over priced and in a central location.

Visiting Clacton for the day, this restaurant was recommended by friends. Good choice on menu, plenty of specials too. Restaurant was busy but food served quickly and was delicious. Would have given this 5 stars but we had to ask about drinks, and when served the orange juices were not cold but warm. Shame.

This is undoubtedly the best English restaurant in Clacton and the surrounding area and I have no hesitation recommending it to everyone. The food is always freshly cooked with the best ingredients, tasty, hot (where applicable) and the salad is delicious. Friendly and efficient staff, fully licensed or a lovely cup of tea. Personal dish recommendation : Steak & Kidney pie.The chairs are very comfortable padded leather, although there is not a lot of space, the space is adequate unless you are very big and/or you are a wheelchair or walking frame user - these can be stored in an area at the back. The restaurant is spotlessly clean. Parking in the street outside can be hit or miss, but there is a pay car park very near and a couple of disabled bays almost opposite.You will not find a better lunch anywhere in this area.

daveys restaurant seems to have been in Clacton for ever - not the smartest restaurant in town and probably not the greatest location.however the restaurant is clean and serves generous portions of delicious home cooked food that represent good value for money - also many of the customers seem to be "regulars" which is always an indication of a good restaurant.

Daveys never fails to live up to its standards of excellent food,good value for money & service.And above all,its one of the few decent family restaurants in Clacton where you can actually sit down & get served with a decent drink with your meal.Unlike most of the other greasy spoons & fast food joints which blight this seaside town serving up the usual grease & grot elsewhere.This is one of the best in town & quite deservedly so.Highly recommended!

Food was great people who served were friendly a long standing favourite to go whenever we visit. no need to change anything

We had the 3-course set lunch at £10.95. The soup of the day was roast vegetable and was very tasty. Our main courses were roast chicken, roast beef and liver and bacon, all of which were good. The roast potatoes and cabbage were especially good. The restaurant reminded me of an American diner.

Good food with plenty of choice and very reasonable prices. Only drawback is that it closes at 6pm. A very popular place with locals and visitors and one of the best places to eat in Clacton if you want fresh, home-cooked food.

Have been using Daveys for about 3 years now, the food is good old fashioned English food, cooked the way it should be. The service is always good although sometimes it can be a bit busy (because it is popular) and you may have to wait a bit. IT IS WORTH THE WAIT.

We took our mum out for dinner to daveys the staff were brilliant with our fussy table the only bad part of the trip was the rice was bland for the chicken curry

Went with my elderly Mum to Daveys served by Donna who had loads of time for my mum. Helped with recommendation and had patience of a saint as my elderly Mum took a while to make her mind up. Lovely hot dinner, steak pie absolutely lovely. Had a relaxing meal, Donna came back and checked me and Mum where ok. On leaving had a little chat and waitress helped Mum with her coat. A good family restaurant, will be back very soon.

Have been meaning to try Daveys for a while, finally went there yesterday. We both had rump steak with chips, peas, onions and tomato, the steak was very tasty and cooked to perfection. Nice restaurant with different daily specials at reasonable prices.

Waitress was rude, blunt, an very unprofessional. Waited 10 minutes to be asked if we wanted drinks, asked another waitress same waitress than made the drinks and just plonked them on the table, food was ok could of done with more gravy, roast potatoes were very tasteless. Not much choice of veg cabbage and carrots or peas and carrots. We had Yorkshire puddings, our friends had none but had stuffing which we wernt asked which we preferred. All round not very good experience due to service

Home from home - very near the Pavilion yet set off the sea front and very homely. Basic foods, Sunday roasts, daily specials, lovely wine and expremely reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

We visited this restaurant over the bank holiday weekend. It is very clean and the service is very good. The food is of a good standard with plenty of choice from breakfasts,roasts to most things that you would want. The prices are very good and the quality is good.Always busy , a sign of a good restaurant. Well worth a visit.

Have eaten in this Restaurant 3 times since moving into the area and have been impressed by each visit. The food is great and home cooked not "ding" the service is provided by friendly staff and the value for money is amazing for the high standard of food.You are seated on comfortable chairs in a nice decor, a visit is an absolute must if you are in the area, you won't be dissapointed.There is a wide variety of food to choose from and it is great. Will be going back again next week and probably every week.

My review is based only our cooked breakfast experience but it was lovely. I am very fussy when it comes to my full English but this was a good one and we will go back! Even the toast was hot and lashings of butter. Very good service and child friendly, there are baby changing facilities which is a bonus. Our bill for 2 breakfasts with drinks and toast was only £12, no complaints! Located close to sea front and pier right next to where we parked which is how we found Daveys.

Had breakfast there 2 mornings and it was excellent. Tried to eat there again but it didn´t open until 9.30am. Would go back again.
