A great bar for a quick pint or to settle down for a friendly chat. A brilliant bar for locals and visitors, a MUST visit in Thirsk.

Horrible smell as soon as you walk in. Friendly staff and customers cheap drinks but could do with a really good clean.

No matter what you name this pub it'll always be the same. No real ales but the beers are a good selection. Lively at weekends.

Barman didn't seem very interested, Hendricks gin served in a crappy tumbler, no cucumber, no knife to cut the lime, your pub serves food, for God's sake, and you couldn't find a knife, or couldn't be arsed to look for one ! £8.20 for that gin with flat tonic & a pint of Grolsch, get a grip, Red Bear !

Now renamed the red bear.. this pub has had a recent refurbishment. It is a pleasant pub with very reasonably priced drinks, how ever this does seem to mean it can get a bit rowdy later on

All I can say is a very rude landlady. A new jukebox being installed with a volume problem. Showing the engineer the volume was turned up(deafening) and down, maybe 20 times in a few mins. When we asked her to stop we were told our custom was not wanted. Could explain why this pub was empty and other pubs in thirsk were busyish. With her in charge that pub is doomed. Avoid it unless you want to be insulted. Worry for any bank who has invested with them.

I was staying nearby for the night and decided to eat here . I turned up without booking on a Monday evening and although it was quite busy they found me a table. I ordered a few dishes and I must say all very good. Great service and a nice venue.

Food was tasty. However the crusted cod ordered by 2 of our party was served with a very meagre amount of tiny pieces of crispy potatoes. It was like 3 chips chopped up. I pointed this out to the girl serving as it was more like a starter. She took it back to the kitchen and quickly returned to say chef was making some more. I had to laugh and I think even the serving girl was embarrassed when she brought me a tiny bowl you’d normally get mayo/ketchup in with another very meagre portion of potato pieces! Also it was meant to be served with creamed leeks and there must have been a leek shortage too! Saying that the other 2 party members had significantly larger portions, a gammon and a sizzler. When the plates were cleared I also informed the guy of the issue with the potatoes served with the cod. He asked the other person if hers was the same and she had said she wasn’t bothered by the small portion, she does not have much appetite and often has a starter instead of main. It’s a shame I came home hungry and I’m not a big eater myself. I’d consider going again but if you’re hungry give the crusted cod a miss! Edit 22/10/24. The owner rang me last week to discuss and apologise. He told me he would be speaking to the manager and would get back to me.

Crap service, its meant to be a fast food outlet. Stood here twenty minutes at 6:30am awaiting a mcmuffin. Staff just ignore you.

What can I say. Poor service after I ordered and was told my order would be with me in an hour. So when it got to one hour and 20 minutes later I rang again to be told they were very busy but the order had left the shop 10 minutes ago and would be with me in two minutes (I live one minutes drive away) so two minutes after my call the food arrived, driver ran from car to door took money not even an apology from him and walked slowly back to his car. The food was cold and just chucked in the box. Can safely say I won’t be ordering again any time soon, waste of £15 as most went in the bin.
