Family meet up today. Very friendly helpful staff. Lots of choice and all was delivered hot. Really good food for all our chosen dishes.

Visited with family as we was up visiting. The food was fantastic, nice and hot and plenty off it! Molly our waitress was absolutely amazing too! The vibe was good. They was a quiz but we was a little late to par-take! Our desserts was also amazing even tho the kitchen had closed they still made them for us which we really appreciated.! The only down for us was when we first arrived and ordered our drinks the bar maid really did not want to be at work and it showed which really let all the other team down as everyone else was cheerful, happy and very pleasant.

Gone a few times was mostly okay till we had fish and chips where the fish looked half eaten so no long get fish and chips, shame because it's was nice.

Very good value for money. Very nice southern fried chicken burger when considering it’s 241. Very friendly staff and good drink selection including Stella which you can’t get in nearby Green Kings. Overall a great family night for the price. Good soundtrack too, well done!👍

Food ok. Glasses filthy. Takes forever to get served. Certain staff doing all the work whilst others hang around avoiding eye contact with customers. Some training needed or some staff firing. Avoid if you can.

Stayed at The Darrington for 3 nights in August. Had a family room. Room was large with a queen size bed and a double sofa bed. Both were very comfortable and all 3 of us had a good sleep. Bit picky but we thought the family room could do with having a mini fridge in case small children were staying. Food was excellent. Special mention to Chris who looked after us very well.

I stayed at this hotel over a week. I would like to say thank u for the excellent service whilst I’ve been here. My wife and I dropped off the A1 on the way home from Leeds and found this pub close to Pontefract. Although we were hoping to find a quaint country pub, we were hungry so gave it a go. Not many customers for a bank holiday Sunday we thought. Should we stay or should we go? Our hunch was to go, but we stayed as the weather outside was rainy. I ordered a sirloin steak and my wife, haloumi with chicken. Both meals were awful. The steak was like rubber and inedible - I tried to chew it but could not get anywhere. The haloumi was OK but it was just piled on a plate with mainly mexican rice and a water-soaked piece of corn on the cob - very poor presentation. The chicken piece looked under-cooked and translucent so my wife sent it back with the server who said the chef told him it comes pre-cooked to the restaurant so cannot be under-cooked. However, he took it away and brought another piece back which was no better and tasteless so my wife didn't eat it. The waiter asked if we had enjoyed our meal after we had finished. I explained not, and that my steak was inedible and mostly half chewed and left on the plate (I did try). I suggested a refund at the time. He said he'd take my comments back to someone but he never returned! As we left we approached the server who originally took our order - he was friendly - the only positive part of the visit really. He brought the Manager who was quite surly but did refund us the cost of the steak meal without apology (we didn't dare mention the problems with the other meal!). There was no smile nor any attempt at polite conversation. Many people coming into the pub seemed to know the bar staff, so we assumed many locals come here often. The place did not feel welcoming to visitors apart from the man who served us when we ordered. It made us wonder what it would be like to stay over as the Darrington does have guest rooms. However, we won't be returning to find out. Our advice would be to stay on the A1 and avoid.

We were travelling along the A1 and were looking for somewhere to eat without it being a services. The Darrington was ideal, a varied menu, comfortable surroundings and great staff. The food was good pub grub and the kids loved being in the seating area with Tv built into them. Will stop here again when we are next passing

This pub/hotel is a local meeting place for people who live around it. We stayed there for one night and we were quite disappointed. Our room was on a long corridor on the ground floor, which was noisy throughout the night. there were people coming in at all hours shouting and banging on doors. Although smoking is banned in the UK, the whole place smelled of tobacco and worse.

As for the food its what you expect from a hungry horse. As for the staff can't fault them but the rooms and level of sound proofing it's well crap at 3am the person in the next room was chatting away to God knows hun and road noise well 3 hrs sleep and the drive to a meeting what can I say shocking the photos are to show the condition of the rooms well at least I had a spider to keep me company .

We are a big family who come very often phoned today to book a table and spoke to paul who was very unhelpful we understand it can be busy but came across rude and unwilling to help ! Always been satisfied with the staff in there could never moan about anything

Usual decent cheap grub you expect from a Hungry horse. Staff were friendly and efficient. Place was clean and tidy. Pity they had run out of several things on menu, but at least they didn't blame Brexit lol

Visited Sunday dinner time, but none of us wanted a carvery!!! All our meals arrived nice and quickly, steaks cooked perfectly and my husband's mixed grilled looked beautiful. Me and the stepson finished ours off with dessert.

Food was on par, at least as far as chain restaurant food can go. Similar likeness to JDW. The staff were very polite and accommodated my small requests, such as putting a cake behind the bar for my Sons birthday. I would visit this location again.

Preheated food bad service, made it out to be our fault that we had to wait for my sons meal to come out when actually it was the incompetent staff that we had to deal with, we together as a family or on our own will NOT be going here again, I advise to stay clear and Google another family pub as this is not run correctly.

If it was possible to give "0" I would have. A giant Yorkshire pudding filled with soggy veg and 2 processed packet slices of beef. I should have had something deep fried. Yuk

Decided to eat here as we had our grandchildren with us and they like the menu choice. Friendly service and our food came within reasonable time but the lasagne was overcooked; steak with a salad well done not medium rare but the worst was the rump steak. It came in two pieces - one very small and thin and looked like a add on to make up the weight. Both pieces well done not rare. If they ask you how you would like meat cooked then they should be able to cook it as ordered- doubt if the kitchen even bother to check. Took my meal back and the waitress told me the steak had separated while being cooked ( no it had not) . Her attitude left a lot to be desired. The meal was replaced and the steak was one steak and cooked rare and ok - why not the first time. Missing onion rings but couldn't be bothered to complain again as the rest of our party had already finished their meals. I spoke to the duty manager about the meal and the member of staff's attitude. We will not rush back in a hurry even though it is 'on our doorstep'.

After waiting 30 minutes for food it was almost cold when we received it and staff did nothing about it when we told them

Thought we would give the darrington another try after leaving it 6 months from our last visit and review.

Unfortunately our recent visit didn't live up to past experiences, many of the kids items wasn't available the ice cream was more cream than anything else, was disappointed and unfortunately won't be returning

I come here often for food because it's never normally too busy and I rarely have any complaints with the food. I go for the rump steak and the only complaints I've ever had come to how fatty it is on occasion. This doesn't stop me getting it.

When we called in it was because the sign offered 2 sun meals 4 only £12.00 other offers advertising different deals 4 different days, meals were v'good plenty

This old established, formerly posh, dining establishment has had a mixed history over the years. It is currently part of the Greene King group and known as The Hungry Horse. Having recently undegone a major refurb I can certainly recommend it as a cheap and cheerful dining experience. Altho still recovering from the two for offer on curry night I may have underestimated the strength of the Chicken JalCRAZY but the chicken was ample and good quality and with a bottle of craft ale included it was a real bargain. I can recommend the burgers and the gammon meals too.

It is always a bit off putting to have a large group of customers standing around the main entrance smoking, but I suppose that is not the hotels fault. Ignoring that however, we found a perfectly acceptable table and our order was quickly taken at the counter, (remember your table number!) The deals offered were adequate for our needs and the food arrived in a perfectly acceptable time frame. Some reviewers have complained of cold food, but ours was fine and enjoyed by all concerned. This is not a place for gourmet dining, but the prices are fair and the food quality perfectly adequate.

Comfortable surroundings, friendly service but poor food. We have seen the ups and downs of this hotel over the last few years and this is definitely a down period as far as the food is concerned. Cold or overcooked is the norm.

This hotel has it's faults however the friendly helpful staff make you feel welcome and are always happy to help. Attached is a good pub/restaurant where you get value for money with the food and will not go hungry.

We visited here on Sunday for Mother’s Day and we had a lovely warm welcome from your staff. The staff looked after us through our whole visit and we were especially impressed by the service and standards of our desserts. Your waitress Beth really stood out as providing great customer service. Would definitely recommend this pub for good value and great service.

Brilliant food and service on one of the busy days. Even tho the venue was full we did not experience a drop in the brilliant service we usually receive. Beth one of the servers is a credit to the business and has excellent customer service. Always feel welcome here.

Visited with family and friends , on arrival staff were busy talking at end of bar with customers,friends and we were ignored.finally got to order and waited ,combo starter turned up with half the items missing , no explanation and when we asked the waitress she said she would find out but then she dissapeared, then they tried to deliver an ice cream desert before the main course. Mains arrived and 2 had to go back as they were wrong . Then at the end I complained to the manager who just shrugged as though it was an everyday occourance and said he would knock a fiver off the bill . I will never go back to this absolute waste of a place and would urge anybody thinking of going to give it a wide bearth.

Did not get what we paid for, ordered 2 roast dinners, i ordered a large, when they was brought out they was exactly the same, i received no extra vegetables or roasters, i did not get the extra meat i paid for, and neither of us received mash potato. I also had a dried up string bean on my plate. When i raised this to staff they merely said sorry......... No offer of sorting our meals out

I'm so disappointed to be writing this review but this place has gone downhill. We walked in and there was knowone to be seen so went to find a table which we're all dirty and full of plates. We cleared a table and placed our order it came out pretty quickly. Everything was cold apart from the scampi wasn't very nice at all. We sat for the rest of our visit with our plates still in front of us I went to order desserts and all the staff were stood chatting and slouching about on the bar we waited 20mins for desserts I spoke to a waitress which apologised and said there's no excuse for our desserts being left that long as we were the only table in. Lazy staff and the play area smells of urine.
