Darling Deli in Bath and North East Somerset

Visited for lunch and couldn’t really get anything we wanted. All sandwiches are pre made which really doesn’t allow you to have what you want, you just end up with certain things you like but with some ingredients you might not. I was told they don’t make up anything any more because there’s ‘only 3 of us and it gets too busy’. Well it was bang in the middle of lunchtime and there was only ourselves and 2 other people in the shop, hardly overrun! I even asked if they could put some coronation chicken on a wrap with a bit of salad, to which I was told no, obviously. The only thing they would make up was salad boxes where they added a filling on top of certain salads, be interesting to see how much longer it would take to add those ingredients to a roll instead of a salad bowl, I’m guessing not much if anything. I bet they also have far more wastage pre making. Not sure how businesses survive sometimes..

Quite possibly the finest English breakfast in the land- I have travelled from Kent to the Clyde, from Truro to Aberdeen, and the breakfast at the Darling Deli in Combe Down stands with anything I have tried elsewhere.

Darling Deli offers an excellent selection of fresh salads, savoury baked items and lots of delicious cakes and pastries to choose from. It is truly the perfect place to stop and pick up something scrumptious.

Había estado aquí antes para comprar comida preparada congelada ocasional (bueno, el principal elemento proteico al que agregué verduras). En esta ocasión, tuve el placer de comprar uno de sus rollos de salchicha grandes / jumbo. Podría haber tenido esto calentado para comer "en el casco", pero decidí llevarlo a casa, calentarlo en mi propio microondas y agregar un poco de Chutney de cereza y cachemira. Este fue un bocadillo fabuloso y sustancial, con un trozo de carne equivalente a al menos dos salchichas grandes. La carne estaba realmente firme y bien sazonada y la hojaldre hizo exactamente eso. Fue un 3 bien gastado. 50. Este establecimiento, en horarios normales, opera una excelente cafetería y un servicio de comidas para eventos. Espero que puedan seguir adelante y que la comunidad local apoye el negocio.

Darling Deli brindó un excelente servicio y un delicioso buffet en la recepción después del funeral de mi padre el mes pasado. Hubo muchos comentarios favorables sobre la propagación; y los invitados veganos y sin gluten estaban realmente contentos de estar tan imaginativamente incluidos. Recomiendo Darling Deli por su selección de menú, calidad y precio.

As a used to be frequent visitor I’m sad to say this establishment has gone downhill due to the complacency of the owner. Salads are never changing which becomes boring if you are a local and the soup has run out by 1230 the last 4 times I visited. When suggested they might make more (Sarah used to freeze extra and sell it) current owners response was disinterest bordering on rude. Shame as used to be great. .... the other members of staff are utterly charming and a pleasure to deal with but I’ll be going to Widcombe in future

Myself and a friend went for lunch and it was quick service. The food was lovely and tasted amazing. The meat was good and the scotch egg had a nice flavour. I would recommend it as a treat place because of the cost as for a small container of meat and one scotch egg was £6.20 which seemed a lot for a takeaway and my friend paid £7 for some salad and a lemonade. It gets busy with pre orders so would recommend calling to book if it is raining. There is a nice park nearby to sit outside in the sun with the food and free parking for 2 hours which is great. If the prices were lower then I would definitely visit more often. Also the pricing is very complex so if there could be a simple menu with prices that would also encourage us to return and recommend.

We stopped here for breakfast and were most definitely not disappointed. Wow! The 3 of us agreed it was the best breakfast we've ever eaten out. Cooked to perfection, served piping hot and such good quality and fresh ingredients. The Deli Full Breakfast is huge and are the baps. We will most certainly be popping in again when next in Bath. Their salads look so delicious. A try next time. Don't miss this place. You won't regret your visit!!

The food as always is lovely, staff are friendly and always busy, I always phone ahead and it’s there when I get there, have also eaten in, and fried breakfast is something to behold, as is the many salads I’ve eaten. Would recommend !

come here now and then because the food is great and high quality. However, I’ve just had a terrible snack down to the fact that a should-be-tasty-and-slightly crispy spinach and ricotta roll was simply blasted in the microwave in a paper bag when I asked for it to be ‘warmed’. Totally ruined - wet and soggy. I was told ‘that’s what happens to pastry’ .Darling - you really need to do better on this - get another kind of oven or a crisper in your microwave.

There is only one word to describe Darling Deli and that is DELICIOUS! A lovely little deli that serves delicious food, the gentleman that served us was charming and handsome. Can’t wait to go again!

Visited the cafe and ordered a bacon and egg baguette with a coffee. Now I know some people will think I'm being "picky" here but, I do wish ALL cafes and delis and restaurants would advertise that they only use smoked bacon on the menu. And I should have learned by now to ask, but sometimes you're in a hurry or you just forget to ask. I really dislike smoked bacon and would appreciate this being pointed out on the menu or at least members of staff informing customers that they only use smoked bacon (as most pubs inform people of certain makes of drinks they supply). And I wasn't happy with the response I recieved after posting my first review.

If you are looking for a healthy breakfast or lunch this is the perfect spot. The range of fresh wholesome salads is amazing, as are the breakfasts. Highly recommend avo, bacon and poached eggs and it you are in need of a treat, the gluten free millionaires shortbread is amazing...

Nice lunch. We had warm ciabattas which were about £6 to £7 each when eating in. Salads looked quite nice too. Free 2 hour parking outside.

Really enjoyed my recent visit to the Deli. It has been a while since my last visit and the menu ranged as really improved under the new owner. We went to get the usual baguette but found a whole new and exciting menu of various salads and delicious dishes.

I can’t remember ever eating a nicer Sandwich.... chicken, chorizo & avocado yum yum yum, will definitely be back!!

Combe Downers es tan afortunado de tener a esta gran Deli en nuestras puertas. He comido y quitado comida de aquí en muchas ocasiones desde que se abrió hace casi 20 años. La comida es deliciosa y saludable y siempre he encontrado al personal amable y servicial. El único comentario crítico que hice hace algunos años fue cuando una vez la ensalada de col rizada tenía trozos duros y masticables. Pero esta es una joya preciosa de un lugar que somos muy afortunados de tener en nuestra comunidad.

Visité el Darling Deli para tomar un café / pastel en una tarde de lunes a viernes alrededor de las 1500. Fue mi primera visita.

Rara vez escribo malas críticas, pero me sentí obligado a hacerlo después de mi experiencia en este café ayer. Actualmente estoy muy embarazada y mi esposo y yo nos encontramos con un amigo que no habíamos visto en esta cafetería durante años. Durante nuestro tiempo aquí compramos dos juegos de bebidas y algunos pasteles. Mientras estábamos allí, el personal nos pidió que nos moviéramos a una mesa más pequeña, ya que un grupo más grande estaba llegando, esto no fue un problema, ya que estábamos en una mesa más grande porque era todo lo que estaba disponible cuando llegamos. No mucho después de esto, TRES miembros del personal nos preguntaron abruptamente en sucesión rápida si podíamos irnos ya que las personas que llegaban querían comida. Nunca he tenido esta experiencia y me sorprendió que me pidieran que se fuera de forma tan grosera después de gastar dinero aquí.

We called in for cofffe and ended up leaving with double delicious food, we ordered the hot wraps I had a super food hot wrap that was faultless and my good friend had the onion and something else I can’t remeber the name but it looked really good and he said it was I can’t recomend them enough with value for money to boot

A warm, friendly atmosphere with an excellent and varied cuisine. A must for a simple take away, coffee or a sit down meal.

Delicious cafe food and amazing salad bar i just wish there was one in central Bath! Naughty but nice treats too and there are also freezers with takeaway home cooked frozen meals too which are handy for a busy family. Homemade jams can be bought too!

Walked to the Darling Deli from Dundas. It’s a beautiful up hill walk and coffee and lunch at the Deli is well worth it. The salad plates are delicious and it is hard to select, good coffee and friendly staff. Can’t wait to come back.

Really love the take away salads: tuna, beetroot, coalslaw etc etc. Good value BUT not very easy to park

Great, simple and consistent food quality! Really poor counter service! Just such miserable staff! Not expecting singing and dancing but a little bit of interaction doesn't go amiss. Unfortunately no longer happy to spend my money in my local Deli- shame!

Mi pareja y yo estamos buscando una casa cerca de Bath y topamos con este encantador café/deli cuando nos marchamos a la zona de Combe.

El Darling es mi local y yo comimos allí al menos un par de veces a la semana. Es bulliciosa y ajetreada y sí algunas veces hay una cola, pero esto solo va a destacar su gran popularidad y la calidad de la comida que ofrece. Altamente recomendado.

We're new to the area and are delighted to have found this fab deli five minutes away, it has seen us through our move and no kitchen temporarily, so has been a life saver with their variety of fresh take away salads and quiches and top breakfasts plus a great welcome from the staff. Highly recommended.

This place is brilliant. Quite small inside but with a huge breakfast full of taste & defenetly cooked with love. Buy the homemade jam, it's delicious.

I absolutely love to eat here. This place does monster breakfast for a reasonable price. Everything is so fresh and the staff are always friendly. The atmosphere is very rustique and I know I'll be back!

This place is lovely. Delicious, reasonably priced breakfasts with a wide selection of items and generous portions. The food was cooked really well and came out in decent time. The service was great- friendly and helpful servers who seemed happy to be there. There are only 5 tables or so but we git one find at 10ish on a Saturday morning. Their cake and salad selection looked great but we were all too full after our huge breakfasts to sample! Will definitely be going back.

Popped in for a light lunch yesterday, lovely new girl on the counter, nice to get a smile for once from a member of staff!

I always look forward to going here to pick up a decent takeaway lunch and coffee when I'm working in the areaThe salads ,coffee and wraps are all I have tried so far and in my opinion are truly delicious in every way and also very generous and good value for moneyHowever in order to buy here I have to grin and bear what I feel is a very miserable and unwelcoming service from the counter staff I almost feel as if I'm being a nuisance when placing my order The odd smile and friendly comment goes a long way with me but hey ho the food is wonderful Being an avid baker myself I can see that the cakes are extremely well presented and look again as if they represent very food value for money.

A little underwhelming from outside but once through the door the pace has a certain simple charm.We had coffee with a bacon sandwich and poached egg on toast. All very good but the service was a mixed bag from downright miserable to very good. It did feel a little bit we were in the way of preparing for the rest of the day.

Really enjoyed the Salad here. Not the cheapest - BUT absolutely worth it. I did go for a main chicken salad and 4 halves of other options so I think worth paying the bit extra as the food is so nice and there is a lot of variety. I tried butternut squash, green lentil, and a tomato and mozzarella selection with Cajun chicken. Would absolutely take out here again if I were visiting Bath.The only negative part is we did feel that the staff could have been a bit friendlier, I thought it was just myself but my friend confided with me after that she felt like she was inconveniencing the staff. However this may have just been a bad day for the particular member of staff or we may have caught her in a busy period.

This place is great we were taken there by s local to get a proper British breakfast it had it all bacon sausage hash browns eggs toast and beans yum

Well cooked food with a great vegetarian offer. Value for money prices as well. Friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere for a post Park Run nosh up.

The food at the Darling Deli is amazing, every time, but the staff cannot bring themselves to smile and look perpetually miserable.

Being new to the are we decided to have a walk on a cold Saturday morning. Stumbled upon this hidden gem. Fab salads ( eat in or takeaway) and a hot cuppa went down a treat. Recommend

I have been visiting the Darling Deli for years, and the quality has remained consistently high over that time.The prices are higher than you'd pay at, say, a supermarket or a cheap pub chain, but the portions are huge and the flavours absolutely gorgeous!I can highly recommend the salad selection - depending upon the mix of salads you choose, you can get a takeaway salad box for around £3.50, a real bargain for the quality of food you get. I usually opt for lentil, beetroot, walnut and feta (so good), butternut squash (roasted with spices and so tasty) and creamy coleslaw. They also have a huge range of wraps and sandwiches, and a small seating area if you'd like to eat in.The staff are always rushed off their feet and busy, but are friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend the Darling Deli highly enough, I miss it if I don't go there for a while!

We would like to say Thank You to the Darling deli for the tasty meals we ordered to take on our holidays, this has become a regular treat when we go away with friends.All 3 meals(on different days) from the hot catering menu were eagerly gobbled up after long coastal walks and National Trust visits. Visited today around 2pm, waited in the queue and then asked to order sandwiches. A Lady came out of the kitchen to advise they were no longer doing sandwiches. No reason for not doing sandwiches was given. If they stop doing sandwiches at two then this should appear on their website and in the shop to avoid any confusion. We visit here quite a lot but this has put me off going in future.

When I was a younger we used to visit combe down on a regular basis and it was the kind of food I spent a long time craving. I revisited it a few months ago and I was still extremely pleased with my salad pot that I took out. If you're in the area, this is for you.

The food is always great but honestly the staff are snobby and rude. If you're getting take-out its perfect. I wouldn't recommend eating in. The tables and chairs seem like an after thought and they are tightly packed together between the counter and kitchen.

We were recommended the Darling Deli and the food was excellent! There is a small café inside where you can not only sample the food sold in the deli but also a good range of hot cooked food. Although we didn't eat breakfast there they looked really delicious!

What a great find. This deli was recommended to us while visiting The American Museum. The salads served for lunch were both plentiful and delicious. My husband loved the Cornish Pasty. There were a number of cakes/slices to choose from for dessert. The ones we selected were YUM! The coffee was delicious as well. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We will be recommending the Darling Deli to all our friends who travel from Australia.

I buy a takeaway lunch from here most weekdays and it is always brilliant. The food is also prepared and made to a high standard using quality ingredients. The one thing that let's it down though is some rude staff, mainly the elder female staff. They have very little time for you and always seem moody when they deliver your food. If the food was not as good as it is I would be put off buying my lunch from here. This is not evident with all staff though as the owner, male chef and young female waitress behind the counter are always welcoming and give great customer service, a shame not all of the staff are like this.

Excellent choice of food all locally sourced produce. Fairly priced. Shame they can't double their premesis. So many more could experience their delights. Well worth the bus ride out of Bath to Coombe down village. Extra special place for lunch. Or to buy wonderful trays and make your own lunches. Also can do catering for parties !!!x

Every now and again you get the chance to nip out of the office and try something new - and in my case it is usually on a food crusade. I drove out of the centre of Bath for a change to try out the goodies on offer at Darling Deli in The Avenue - and was delighted! They have a super range of healthy gorgeous salads and lunchtime treats. The portions are perfect, the service is great, the little section at the back of the shop, where you can sit and eat your plateful of loveliness is just big enough for a few discerning diners, but pick your time to go carefully because there is usually a queue of people waiting for wonderful take-away lunches too. Just delicious, darlings!

Very well priced and well presented buffet for our birthday party. Despite everyone eating really well there was masses left over that we have enjoying all week.

Have visited this deli for breakfast three times now and each time the food has been cooked to perfection and the service excellent. The food is cooked to order, no hot plates here. Having eaten breakfast at many places in Bath over the last forty+ years I can say with no hesitation this is the best!

You must visit Darling Deli ! I chanced upon it in Combe Down, just outside Bath centre, and was so happy I did. The food is exceptional and ALL prepared in house. Delicious salads and a wonderful breakfast/bacon roll if you're not watching your weight!But really, so much choice and such helpful staff. The place is run by a lovely lady called Sarah who you can see preparing all the food for the deli in her open kitchen.Thoroughly recommended.

I was most impressed by the delicious food here. We enjoyed a salmon and cheese quiche, which was full of taste and flavour, with tomato and avocado salad. The apple and almond cake was absolutely delicious. The drinks were good and water was available for all.I bought a rich flapjack to take away. I will definitely try to return here. Exceptional food!

Great breakfasts - including veggie, nothing too much trouble. Well presented and speedy. This wonderful find was just round the corner from our amazing self catering (Cute) cottage. This is a wonderful area of Bath for a stay - a village atmosphere right on the edge of a vibrant city.

We called in today (Jan 3rd 2014) for breakfast, having stayed overnight nearby, but opted not to pay over the odds for standard hotel breakfast - which are usually a disapointment anyway.I ordered the Big English (I was quite hungry) and my wife the Veggie option.The breakfasts arrived promptly and were excellent, all fresh cooked, and with a couple of changes we had asked for. Our coffees were perfect, and tasted of coffee - something which so many places these days seem to struggle so hard to achieve.The breakfasts were absolutely delicious, just the right amount, and set us up nicely for a morning walk in the driving rain and howling gale.We also took advantage of the salad takeaway, and took two medium mixed pots - again which were delicious.Great place, great service, great staff and great food!Thanks & a very happy new year.
