Dancing Duck in Bournemouth

VIsited one evening with a group of friends. Very pleasant evening and good value for money.Has a very interesting menu and as a group we tried lots of dishes. Chicken was excellent and there are choices as to the level of taste required. By that there was a choice of spice level. The large chicken wings dish was excellent and good value. It was a bit quiet, but it was a week day. Easy to park close, which helps. When we are back that way we will pop in again

17 of us went for a work night out on a Wednesday evening. We are a small retail team for a local charity and we picked this as our location because the vibes looked good. But it massively surpassed our expectations, the vibes were immaculate, the place was lively without being overwhelming, the food was fantastic and catered to all including nut allergies and vegan requirements. Aaron was such an amazing host and couldn't have done more for us! The feedback that I have received from the team today is only that of praise and thanks to The Duck team. We will be back very soon.

The Duck serves very good food in a lively, convivial atmosphere with excellent service. Plus they always look after our pup Mabel. Really can’t fault it at all.

When you shake a chef's hand about four times in the space of around two minutes, you know you've probably just had a very pleasurable dining experience. Key takeaways of this review: 1) Get yourself to The Duck (especially if you've not already visited this fantastic establishment) 2) Order yourself a 'Bill or Buck?' burger (because, honestly, how can you be expected to choose between the many appealing beef vs. chicken burgers on offer) 3) Spread your legs wide, plant your elbows firmly on the table (forget everything your momma told you), indulge in a generous forward-leaning stance, and tuck into that bad boy 4) Marvel at what will probably be one of the standout burger-eating experiences of your entire life up until this point Further notes: - - Unctuous (fat is flavour, folks!), perfectly pink smashed beef patties. Yom - Somehow incredibly crispy externally, yet just on the right side of cooked internally (see: mega juicy and moist), thick and tender southern-fried chicken patty, lathered with buffalo sauce that has just the right balance of sweetness and acid (to cut through the richness of the beef and the perfectly melted cheese). It was also overhanging the bun ever so slighty, which is exactly how it should be (so that you can sample a nibble of this deliciousness in isolation, before you delve into the whole burger full-force) - Cool, fresh mayo in abundance (for me it's the wetter the better when it comes to burgers; nobody likes a dry burger!), and mayo here is the right choice over BBQ or some other sauce, as there's already plenty of sweet and savoury going on - Very heavily-browned, super caramelised bun (it was mega-golden, which leads me to think it was probably grilled in butter) that lends an incredible sweetness and nuttiness and crunch to the whole eating experience. I'm typically not even an exponent of sweet with savoury, but in this burger it just SO works. At times I got the sensation of eating a freshly-prepared seaside donut (you know the ones... with a crust like the earth's mantle), but at the same time it never felt like that was detracting from the two meaty stars of the show (recap: BOMB chicken + BOMB beef) In summary: get yourself there. Like, now. Don't even think about it. As I told the chef (big ups James!), I've eaten a great many burgers at a great many places. I'm that guy that everyone rolls their eyes at when they order the incongruous burger at an otherwise upscale restaurant. (But we all know that American / diner / BBQ food is the best for the soul, right?) So I'd like to think that I know a thing or two about a thing or two on the topic at this point. Welp, this burger is up there. Like, UP there up there. Quite possibly the tastiest burger I've ever eaten, which really is saying something. The variations in texture, the balance of the different flavours... just everything about it was absolutely first rate. Congrats once more, James (and whoever else worked on developing this new menu) -- you've birthed an absolute beast. Supplementary notes to this review: * I've lived in Westbourne for the past nine years. The Duck has been a semi-frequent mainstay. (My better half and I are moving out of the area this month, which actually pains me somewhat after how dope today's dining experience was.) * Over a protracted time period, you'll see the standards of many places slip, as they begin to compromise on quality / ingredients etc., to meet rising budgetary constraints and whatnot. Well, not The Duck. If anything it's gotten BETTER over time, which is just so great to see * Service is... variable. On occasion when we've been, the staff have seemed more interested in having a good old chat amongst themselves than in serving the customers that are clearly waiting. That would be my ONLY criticism though. The food is ALWAYS great, and everything else about the place is great (location, decor, layout, cleanliness, denizens etc.). Today the front of house were absolutely brilliant as well, so take this ctitique with a pinch of salt. (My guess is that the apparently high turnover of waiting staff means it may be kind of pot luck, depending on when exactly you visit) * Speaking of pinches of salt, the cocktail menu is diverse and alluring. Many of the classics are there, and all the signature cocktails I've tried have been interesting and delicious. Possibly mostly sweet and sour-leaning, with a lack of aromatic drinks, but you've got Apperol Spritzs and a very decent selection of gins and whiskys / whiskeys (depending of your proclivities) behind the bar, if you're after something drier - Now, the cocktails are ALWAYS good. I tend not to go at peak service hours, but I get the sense that either the bar staff have a very good foundational knowledge of how to make a fine mixed drink, or the bar is run tightly (proper instruction / recipes are available to them). I've more than a passing interest in how to craft a fine libation (having read many of the greats, like Embury... if you know you know), and the balance (definitely one of the most important aspects) is ALWAYS there. Which I've consistently found to be very impressive. Basically, you'll want to drink several of them... and you should find that lips will loosen, smiles will widen, and the world will become an altogether finer place to be Hats off to you, The Duck! Y'all be killing it, and I will definitely miss this place!!! P.S. Yes I've only written this one review on Tripadvisor. And no I'm not a shill or a bot. If I don't find there to be good food / service somewhere, I'll just think twice about going back there. If I DO have a good time somewhere, I'll vote with my wallet and support the place by frequenting the establishment. And if I'm served what is quite probably the best burger I've ever eaten in my whole life, by very pleasant and attentive staff, while enjoying artfully crafted and delicious beverages all the while, THEN I'll write my first Tripadvisor review.

I love their poutine, very tasty. Nice friendly staff who you can have a laugh and a joke with. Will go again at some stage.

We have been coming to the Duck for several years and we have still yet to find anywhere we like more locally! Whilst a little pricier than other places we can always rely on the Duck for good quality food which comes out with no issues. Food is always so good, comes put quickly and hot. Staff are also great, super friendly and happy.

Fantastic tasting and generous portions! Loved the Frozen Pina Colada Sorbet! The barman was really friendly and the live music was a lovely surprise for us!

Been to the Duck many times, always had good service and great food, enjoyed another evening meal with the family. Unfortunately it seem as though there is now a service charge for a group of 5 which is now included in the bill. Can not see any warning on the Menu or on the web site and was not mention on the night, very disappointing

Fabulous service by one of the young lads there who greeted us with a huge welcome smile and couldn’t do enough. No issues with the dogs being there . Great offer on the wings and they were absolutely delicious

Big thanks to the amazing team at The Duck, especially Aaron, for making my birthday night out go better than I could have dreamed of! Aaron was attentive from the second we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. We had fab, freshly made cocktails and the Duck's ever-reliable Nachos. I have never ever had a bad night out in this place. There's always a great atmosphere, good music, great DJs and it's very dog friendly too. Best bar for miles around!!

Came for a meal at lunch time for a family of five. Seated promptly, gave enough time for meal decisions etc. The food was amazing as usual. Between us we had chicken wings, southern fried burger and popcorn chicken plus fries and everything was so good. I love this place.

New to the area, we were walking round Westbourne & the Duck looked welcoming. We popped into this dog friendly pub for a drink which turned into dinner because the menu was so appealing. Charlie gave us a warm welcome and found us a table during the busy happy hour even though we hadn’t booked. Table service with a smile. The team are knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and all work together to provide a great experience. David was our server and always near by. A busy pub, with a vibrant atmosphere, tasty menu with lots of American style choices, friendly staff & great service. We’ll be back. Thank you for a great experience.

We've been going here for many years and have almost always enjoyed the food. The rest of the family always like to do wings night ( 2 for 1 on a Monday night) and as they're now £25 a kilo on a night with no deal, we've always gone on a Monday. I don't like wings so order something else, on this occasion a chicken, bacon, lettuce and advocado wrap, or that's what it should have been. When it arrived it was mainly full of lettuce, one tiny piece of adbicado, a bit of bacon and very little advocado. A top might be to heat the wrap a little to make it more appealing. I should of complained straight away but left it. When the waitress cleared the plates away I told her then that it was bland and for £12.50 for the wrap. She did reply that she was sorry and that "somethings happened in the kitchen today as we've had a few complaints like these" The prices in the Duck for both food and frink have risen quite considerably, which is a reflection of prices everywhere, but The Duck seriously need to up their game if they're going to compete successfully with all the other bars and restaurants in Westbourne that offer a decent standard of food

It appears the Duck is a social enterprise or club for the staff that “work”. Variable closing time of both the bar and the kitchen and variable service. Other options are available in Westbourne.

Always love the food in the Duck, the menu had changed very recently and a few favourites has been removed, but, what we had was still incredibly good.

My partner and I booked a table of 2 to have wings on a Monday which is wing night. We were greeted by the friendly staff to be told that there were no wings left at 7pm which is disappointing especially as it was soo early on in the night. As we had already paid for parking we thought we would choose different food. A house cheese burger, doubled up and with garlic mayo on the side came to £24 which is extortionate unfortunately

Took 10 minutes to be seated, took half an hour for us to order our drinks and then another 20/30 minutes to get them and order our food. It then was 45 minutes before we got our food, our chips were cold and they forgot our onions rings which took another 15 minutes to come.

First time here, we were visiting the area and,having Googled menus thought this our best choice so we booked for 6pm on a Saturday night. We arrived early and our table was ready. I was served quickly at the bar and really enjoyed my Po’ Boy (4 battered king prawns in hot sauce in a roll with fries). Lovely busy atmosphere and a real mix of families, people like us and cool people! We’d certainly visit again

Book the function room every year for my birthday. Really disappointed this time. Room cold. Very Smokey. Food took well over an hour to arrive, had to chase it several times only to be told they didn’t have part of the order available one hour after ordering? They weren’t busy that evening so very disappointed, won’t be returning

Good food and great atmosphere. Had a range of food which was delayed but the staff dealt with it really well. Offered a discount and some wine which was appreciated.

One of my previously favourable gastro pubs in Westbourne but they have dropped the ball massively and for this reason I would avoid:- Glass came out with lipstick on.- Cutlery not clean, previously in cellophane.- Wrong drinks brought and spilled onto the table.- Not all menu options available. What we ate was disappointing. - Not asked or directed where to scan in for the NHS track and trace app. - Asking for the bill having to go to the bar to pay.- Freezing cold environment. When highlighted to the bar tender he dropped the price of the drink with the lipstick on off the Bill. Really disappointed and won’t return.

We wanted a light lunch and a pint. The food was really bad, overcooked, dry and tiny portions. Beer's good.Service was really slow. We had to wait for a while and then go back to the bar and remind the staff of our presence before they came over to take our orders.

We had booked elsewhere initially and they hadnt logged the booking and had no room for us.We came to the duck where i always get the best coffee. We were shown to a garden table by a heater lamp by the security man who was very pleasant and was keen to get us a table as we had been let down and it was my birthday .The atmosphere was lovely and the lighting turned down made it the place look lovely and inviting. The garden was also cosy and nice. The two guys were superb who served us with drinks and then our food. So attentive and quick to come to us even though we were outside. The drinks were presented really nice especially my elderflower gin and lemonade. The food was also great. Will definitely be back for a weekend evening visit. ❤️

Esto fue decepcionante ya que alguien podría habernos preguntado antes de las 9 pm. Así que caímos en este lugar para tomar una copa, se veía diferente pero olía exuberante. La primera noche tomamos una copa pero vimos el menú y supimos que teníamos que volver a comer. El servicio fue fabuloso muy atento aunque estaba lleno. Reservamos para un miércoles por la noche para comer, se parece mucho a la comida de tierra estadounidense, los hot dogs con chile, las papas fritas sucias, etc.pero la comida fue increíble, la disfruté muchísimo, tanta comida en el plato y nuevamente un excelente servicio al cliente, francamente no podía culpa y lo mejor de todo es que dan un 20% de descuento los miércoles! ! ! Fantástico lugar que vale la pena visitar si estás en la ciudad.

Nos encantó nuestra visita aquí, ambiente fabuloso y muy de moda. Las alitas de barbacoa son las mejores que hemos probado y definitivamente volveremos por ellas. ¡Había querido probar el Dirty Dog durante tanto tiempo y definitivamente superó las expectativas! ¡Tan delicioso! El personal era muy amable y el servicio era tan bueno. ¡Muy, muy recomendable! Un entorno limpio y las precauciones contra la situación actual fueron perfectas.

Uber cool cafe / bar en Westbourne en Bournemouth. Maravilloso interior. lugar de tamaño mediano con muchos asientos. Gran ambiente ya sea ocupado o bastante. We found this place by accident and were not disappointed it was Thursday rib night a huge portion of ribs corn cob slaw and skinny fries for 10 pounds 50 bargain absolutely scrummy, we also had a few other courses totally over ordered great portion sizes, nice staff and great. Beer I will definitely return

Sunday lunch was excellent. One beef with huge amounts of meat and one nut roast. Was superb. Perfectly cooked veg. Service excellent.

Little wander and found the duck.... immediately seated. Order taken in good time and drinks then food delivered. Absolutely lovely food. Good portions, great taste, really enjoyed it. Cocktail for desert...this was good too! Staff friendly and attentive. Very welcoming.

Ordered two breakfasts, waited 25 minutes and they were served stone cold. They offered to redo them and we waited a further 25 minutes only to be served the same breakfast that was slightly less cold! We knew they were the sane plates as we’d put black pepper on eggs and had started to butter the toast! They had obviously just shoved the plates back in the microwave and left them sitting before brining them out again! We walked out in the end as we’d travelled from London the night before to be with out daughter who is in hospital and In hindsight would have a better chance trying the hospital canteen. Shocking service and a very shoddy way of serving food! I know a lot of people from the area and will make sure everyone I know knows to avoid this place like the plaque!

We decided to try lunch here and were really impressed. The menu was varied and catered for all tastes. The waitress was very helpful and extremely attentive. We didn’t feel rushed and the music in the background was good. We would definitely recommend and will return.

We decided to dine at the Duck in Westbourne after being recommended it by a friend. It's an American themed diner with a really friendly vibe and above all, a great selection of great tasting food. Will definitely be returning here again!

The Duck do an amazing cocktail and a great vibe, but more than that they have fantastic staff. Super accommodating and friendly, and Ellis is an absolute diamond! Can’t rate this bar highly enough. Well priced and very friendly for all occasions. Staff are such a credit to the establishment :)

Turned up perfectly sober, was refused entry by two bouncers who were clearly younger than me and had clearly nearly seen as much as life as me

Visited the Duck the other evening . Excellent food and service. Special mention to Max who was an excellent host and looked after us really well.

What a disappointment when we tried to have a quick lunch at The Duck. Everything took them an age. Our car meter ran out of time because the service was so bad. The waitress/manager came back over and over to ask about details she should have asked for when she took the order. In the end, over an hour after arriving they brought the order. My grilled food was overcooked, stiff as a board, and inedible, the salad old and soggy, so I had no lunch. They had refused to let me have a poached egg as it was too late for the eggs Benedict. Frankly, it was probably a blessing. Finally the order came in dribs and drabs, and, even after all that checking, it was still wrong. No one enjoyed the meal and I picked up the bill of £55.45 as I was so embarrassed that the lunch had been so bad. IT is very simple, dear owner, I will never return.

This place makes you feel welcome immediately. We ate and although the food was tasty and service friendly and efficient, I felt the food was overpriced. Great live singer when we went and really friendly vibe.

Went with friends late evening for a couple of drinks before going for food, quickly served with a good number of staff on, had a dj playing later on in the evening but went before he started. Good selection of drinks, busy but not too manic, outside area and plenty of seating inside.

The Sunday roast was fantastic. My wife and I both had roast pork and were very inpressed. Large portion size, lots of sides and very delicious. The cauliflower cheese was a particular delight. Service was quick and staff were friendly - we will def be back.

We had a really lovely meal with wings and poutine. However we felt deceived when we had the bill to find out that we had been charged twice for the wine when we were informed at the start that happy hour drinks were 2 for 1. The waitress said that the wine offer was charged at a the price of a small glass as opposed to a large glass. However each time we ordered we asked for the wine on the happy hour drinks menu. We had a lovely time, but just came out feeling duped. It would be helpful to be clearer on the drinks menu what happy hour means.

Held a private party in the duck, area given to us was great, staff attentive, great atmosphere and The Nachos were to die for.

Lovely people, great service. Food was delicious. Boyfriend had southern fried chicken and I had a mountain of chilli nachos, these were to die for but a huge portion. However the charming young waiter offered to box up what i coukdnt eat to take them away. Highly recommend

The Duck is the better place in Westbourne to watch the rugby. After a dubious start to showing the 6 nations (Wales game on a big screen and 50% of Jazz Juice on the decks) it’s back on form. First time eaten a roast there and it was good too!

Fuimos para un almuerzo tranquilo entre semana para celebrar un cumpleaños. Un bonito interior peculiar, un personal amable y un extenso menú de día. Hay ensaladas, burritos, costillas, hamburguesas, etc. - muchas variaciones y buenas opciones vegetarianas también. La porción de nachos es enorme y impresionante! También parecen tener un buen menú de desayuno. Hay música en vivo por las noches y probablemente una vibra completamente diferente, pero fue una pequeña joya escondida que pasé varias veces y nunca me di cuenta de cómo era dentro.

I ordered a steak and ribs, and paid for it, only to be told that this was in fact only available on the “night” menu that starts at 5 PM — and that the kitchen were not prepared to make what I In fact ordered, even though it was almost 4 PM. I think that is pathetic, and could not recommend this place based on that alone.

Visited on a Wednesday night with a few friends, we were shocked when there were limited tables due to being super busy – a great sign of a good pub. Food was delicious & great value for money. Surprised at how quick the service was due to how hectic it was. Staff were friendly and efficient. We noticed that throughout the week they offer good deals on certain days with certain dishes so we will be back to enjoy them soon.

Had tacos (pulled pork) some sort of cheese dippy thing and cauliflower buffalo wings (incredible). Table service so that was a bonus. Food was really well enjoyed. It’s Mexican / burgers / fried etc

Had the HUGEST plate of nachos - way too much for one person but very tasty. Food was good, came quickly and service was ok too.

Leaving do for a friend we decided to go for some food. I booked the table over a week in advance and we went early on a Friday evening. Disappointed to be sat on the table right next to the garden door where there was a constant stream of people going in and out to smoke and so there was a stench of cigarettes whilst we ate our meal. No other tables to move to as all other tables in use. Food was good but ruined by environment.

Only had a lunch break so needed sharp service. Was not disappointed with either food or service.

A fabulous evening with friends listening a brilliant singer/guitarist called Tim Young, highly recommended you watch out for this name and go along and see him. Back to our evening out, great drinks as usual and an excellent light meal of chicken skewers, halloumi chips and a small helping of fries.

A lovely private room where we had great service in a cosy atmosphere. The staff were very attentative and meals arrived in good time despite ordering ON THE DAY. Thanks to Charlie, all waiting staff & Adrean for loaning us the nice room.

Really nice friendly staff and great location in the heart of Westbourne. Buzzing atmospehere with outdoor seating at the front in the sun and out back. Lots of food and drink options available. Good options for vegetarians and vegans. We had the loaded fries which were reasonably expensive for what they were - but they did taste amazing. We also had the goats cheese salad which was gorgeous and plentiful. I would recommend this place to others.

Had a pleasant night in this establishment on Friday night and decided to return on Saturday night only to be refused entry by the door man because there were "too many men in the bar."

I was driving through Westbourne and fancied a breakfast at an establishment that wasn't part of a "national chain" ie an independent trader.

Very noisy, boisterous & cheerful 'pub grub' venue. Smashing staff, inventive menu, good choice of beers & wines. Excellent food. Wonderful evening's entertainment. Terrific value.

I heard from several friends that the Duck in Westbourne served great wings, burgers and ribs. So I headed in and the first thing that struck me that this busy, lively bar was more of a pub than a diner. A cool atmosphere indeed.

Fantastic roast on fathers day, staff couldn't be more helpfull and friendly. Great service and the live music was a briliant added bonus.

Elegir la tienda por su valoración positiva, pero que también lo que me decepcionó mucho. No imagen qué tipo de hamburguesa que me dieron. Todo estaba deshecha y los bollos estaban rotos. Me tomó unos minutos para encontrar la manera de celebrar la hamburguesa sin tener vegetales falling out. Necesita ser mejorado.
