On arrival poor hospitality, on seats for waiting, 20 minute delay for our table. Had to ask for menus, serviettes and water. Mix up with order. Long wait for starters, standard of food poor. Restaurant could have been warmer.

Myself and my husband had the most amazing and special wedding day at Dalston Hall. The staff were great and the wedding coordinators couldn’t have done more to make sure our day was everything we wanted. We loved that we had exclusive use of the venue the day before and the day of our wedding. The grounds are stunning and the rooms are luxurious. The most amazing day from start to finish, wish we could relive the day all over again.

We booked the hotel for two nights. We had three rooms, two of which were nice, but the third was awful. The carpet in room 7 was disgusting in places, there was black mould on the tile grouting, more than you should expect, and the wall had stains and random paint patches. Such a contrast to the other two rooms. It was a quiet day and yet we were not allowed to go into the main lounge as this was for weddings only, of which there wasn’t one that day. The bar had some seating, but not enough for the 6 guests in our party to sit together. The food was underwhelming for the cost. It was not restaurant quality food. We had set meal, oh which the menu did not equate the what we ate, eg baked brie with bacon, but it came without bacon/ so I hope you get the picture. The atmosphere was really lacking in the restaurant. The second evening we were promised a different menu, but it didn’t happen. After not wanting vegan chilli ( she is a vegan) the second night one of our party was offered lamb…. We didn’t want the same food a second night , so went to a super Indian restaurant in Carlisle, fairly close, called the Viceroy, which was much friendlier and so much cheaper for excellent quality food. Check your bill carefully. They tried to over charge us. We requested a different flavour ice cream with the dessert and they charged us for a second dessert. One dessert came without any ice cream although it was stated on the menu it had vanilla ice cream. They tried to charge for an additional dessert there too! We felt the serving staff had to field our questions ( which they did politely and tried hard to help us) and complaints on their own, no manager to support them. They were working really hard so we didn’t make too much of a fuss as it wasn’t fair on them. So disappointing as this was an expensive hotel for such poor quality offerings.

The hotel itself is a good spot for exploring the Scottish boarder and Lake District, but is quite a way into the countryside (lovely but lots of driving!). Wow, what an amazing stay. I don't usually write reviews but wanted to thank Nicole and her team, who did a super job of looking after us during a recent birthday break at Dalston Hall. Everyone was attentive, friendly and so helpful especially Sam and Sabrina, who cheerily and professionally looked after us at meal times ... it is such a pleasure to go to somewhere that has a "can do" culture. On top of that the chef delivered elegant, visually appetising food, which was cooked with attention to detail and very tasty – my partner, before settling in England, was a classically trained French chef and he was blown away by the standard. Our bedroom was large, well appointed and spotlessly clean with a rolltop bath ... overall the rooms were full of character. If you want a stay in the area Dalston Hall is a must. The price differential between here and a bland, corporate style hotel makes it a “no brainer” decision. If you are lucky enough to stay here, don’t forget to try the delicious, copious afternoon tea. In summary a very big merci to Sam, Sabrina, Max, Nicole and her team for our superb stay.

We were there for a wedding. The staff were fantastic, always helpful, very bubbly. The building is great a bit of history. Now, it's not so positive! We were there for 4 nights, get up the first morning notice there are about 10 flys on the window sill some buzzing around, (old building not to concerned) I cleaned up then reported to reception, gave me fly spray off I went sprayed the bathroom after about 3 hours there was 45 dead flys on the sill and floor, went back to reception, girl come to look, we where offered another room could have had our pick due to all the guests arriving the next day, now the only way this can work is if we let someone else have our foom, we couldn't do that so we stayed, the gave me a hoover to clean up the flys. By now I had started to count them at the end of the stay. There were 339 assorted insects. I went to pay, and they took one night off the bill, I accepted this because I didn't want to make a fuss. There us more but don't want to bore everyone.

Magnificent! A baronial stronghold first built by my ancestors in the 16th century, and expanded by their heirs through the 17th, Dalston Hall still stands a proud guardian over Northern England's scenic Lakes District. And I'm not talking one of the many stone ruins dotting the landscape throughout the British Isles, Dalston Hall is a living, breathing palace, a tribute to medieval craftsmanship, and all those who have painstakingly and lovingly restored and maintained it through the centuries. Dalston Hall now serves as a luxury hotel (for the lucky few who can book a reservation) and a premium wedding venue offering breathtaking indoor and outdoor accommodations, plus outstanding dining. Walking through the building is like wandering a private museum with paintings adorning every wall, accented by sculptures, master crafted furniture and architectural flourishes throughout. Attention to detail is meticulous. The grounds are equally stunning with centuries old stone walls and archways leading you from one secret garden to the next, and the next, and... The staff was excellent, and charming, particularly Sabrina who treated us to a private tour of the old "family home" and chatted enthusiastically about this "beautiful lady" and her long history. We can't recommend Dalston Hall enough as a top quality, unique place to stay, or as a destination wedding venue. However, be warned: Despite the admonition that no one should look better than the bride on her wedding day, this Grand Dame can compete with the most comely princess.

Was told they were looking at 5o'clock for the electric to be back on, No access to the basic facilities in this time or any refreshments were going to be provided even after numerous people asking and trying, mainly due to having children in attendance on a hot day. Trying to find the wedding organiser to ask about what was happening and any possible solutions to the situation, she was no where to be seen even after numerous occasions throughout the day! Eventually spoke to her and the other staff to be met with rude and even aggressive behaviour from senior staff, screaming and very confronting when I am just trying to resolve my son and daughter in laws most special day!!!! Quick taking the money but not interested in helping or organise a back up plan when it all goes wrong! For a professional venue surely this isn't the first time a power cut has happened??!!! Their solution at one point was come back tomorrow for the reception, if not go home!!!!! How do they even think that was even a good outcome!!! No access to rooms for the guests staying there! Just literally no effort or communication what so ever!!! All done behind closed doors..... literally as on numerous checks doors were locked!!! Men were happily advised to Wee outside in the bushes, women reluctantly allowed in after pestering!!! No bar open as the more we drank, the more we would need access to the toilets!! Nobody even came out to speak to my son the Groom to fill him in on what's happening!! No access for them to get everything that was already supplied there and what they had already paid for themselves i.e. decorations, cake etc. No offer of taking food already prepared to the new venue FAMILY sorted out last minute themselves. If they have any grace in yesterday's fiasco they would give the bride and groom a full refund plus a very grovelling apology for ruining their most special day!! Dalston Hall Hotel

Disgusting service especially from Charlotte , absolutely appauling rude abrupt ruined Sophie and cammys wedding day, yes it isn’t their fault the power went off, but the way it was handled was disgusting, no customer service skills at all from Charlotte and her sister, so unhelpful, told us we couldn’t stay in the rooms as no power and we travelled from Yorkshire, did nothing to help all the guest find alternative accommodation, then didn’t even let us know the power back on, absolutely disgusting, no words can describe how bad it was,

Attended a wedding yesterday, there was a local powercut which understandably was out of your control. You did absolutely nothing to find a new venue, food or transportation there and showed no remorse. Have a heart next time!

Beautiful building and surroundings, very picturesque...attended a wedding which was perfect but the facility was a little over the top with covid regulations even disallowing the groom to go alone to drop his table decorations the previous evening of just a couple of plastic bags. Unopened bottles of wine were removed from the tables after I went outside for a few minutes with the wedding party and upon return to collect the wine, staff were clearing tables and denied having removed them 😡

Second time here, we chose the same room as we loved it the first time. Ordered a platter and it was fab .. well presented and loads of food for two. Will definitely recommend and come back again.

We spent 5 nights at this campsite and loved every minute. Due to faulty breaks on our campervan we had to cancel our initial booking at very short notice but were welcomed when we turned up unannounced a day later. We ended up staying 5 nights instead of 1. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, the facilities are clean, although due to Covid, the showers are currently closed. The site is very dog friendly and has an incredible dog walk around the golf course and adjacent fields. You can walk for miles, seeing owls, buzzards and red deer (if you're lucky!). The site is ideally located for exploring Carlisle, the local area, the Lake District, the Solway Coast, and even the Pennines. We will be back!

I was very disappointed with my meal @ the Bobbin today. I ordered a baguette with roast beef & caramelized onions. The baguette was barely warm with a couple of slices of cold roast beef ,& cold caramelized onions coleslaw ,& salad , not very appetising!! It was not what I expected as usually when you have this meal in cafes the beef & onions are warm. I wouldn't recommend. I would have liked a jacket potato but they had run out of them by 1o'clock. I think the Bobbin needs to better than this. I'm not sure if I would want to lunch there again. There are better places in the city centre

Took 30 minutes to take our food order and another 30 minutes for starters. No one came to clear plates or ask us if we wanted more drinks in between courses/ when serving food. Mains eventually came - no one asked if our meals were ok or if we wanted condiments with our roasts. Had to keep attracting attention of servers. Eventually they said they’d come back to take drinks orders - didn’t happen. Ordered desserts and was promised they were straight to serve - another 30 minutes. We complained about the service a few times and got a pathetic “sorry”. There were plenty of servers and chefs - other tables turned over quickly so not sure why we we were invisible. Thankfully the 4 young children we had with us were amazing - maybe if they hadn’t been we’d have been served quicker?! 🤷🏽‍♀️

Honestly, disgusting. Worst Indian I've ever had. We had guests and decided to get a £50+ takeaway order. It honestly tasted like someone had tripped and dropped a bucket of sugar into every single curry we ordered - Masala, Korma, and Makkhani. All I ate from our £50+ takeaway order was my plain naan (when I'd ordered a garlic naan) dipped into a sugary sugary curry sauce. TOTAL WASTE of money 🤢🤢🤢 Revolting
