Very nice, lovely surroundings.

A really nice, welcoming place with beautiful views. Staff are professional and friendly. Food is very good, but you do pay hotel prices. Whilst the food is undeniably good, I have had similar food as good elsewhere for slightly less. I've been several times (for lunch) with different people, all who've enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Plenty of parking too and the bar area is lovely and oist relaxing.

Beautifully decorated restaurant in beautiful Cumbria. Sadly our order was mistaken and we have been waiting for our starters longer than 40 mins when our mains turned out. When we explained that we didn't get our starters yet the waitress has taken the mains back to the kitchen and it took even longer to get the starters. The mains were really dried when they finally turned out, first to a wrong table and next to ours 🙈 The starters were delicious but the mains were not spectacular and the service was terrible in my opinion but they maybe had just a bad day. I may give it another go when I am next in the area just to see if it is better as the menu had a lot of interesting dishes and the location was beautiful.

Beautiful setting, delicious food, amazing hospitality. We stayed in the hotel and luckily could eat here at our leisure. Open to the public tho, and I recommend going out of your way to make a reservation here. Shout for about a week in advance.

All the cakes and food are home made on site by a wonderful lady we met . I can highly recommend the locally sourced and deliciously prepared food.

Booked for Lunch Choice was a set Menu No healthy options only full Roasts. , calamary was overcooked and dried up, potobello mushrooms were tasty but tiny, Chicken was very small chicken breast on a bone !! Plate was swimming in gravy (Should be served seperate) very watery like poor instant gravy. Potato gratin sqaure was burned on the top. Veg looked tasty until serving where it was wet and sloppy in some milky sauce. Staff were pleasant and service ok. Not good or worth the money.!!

A family gathering. Lovely food . Recommend the Cumberland sausage. The mash potatoes were the best I have had in a long time. I'm hoping to have a golf trip in the area and stay at the hotel.

We stopped here for a meal on an early Wednesday evening, on route back from a day in Whitehaven. We were very happy we chose this place as we walked in with no reservation and the food was divine! I highly recommend the Cumberland sausage & mash, and the Merlot! The ribeye steak is also delicious. We were served very quickly and the restaurant soon filled up, which is always a sign of a great place for food! We will definitely visit again when we are in the lakes next time!

Bit disappointed in ourselves as we wanted a la carte did not know it was not on a Sunday. Otherwise a lovely meal lovely place .very lovely helpful staff. Will go back in the week next time. May even stay over

Found it pricey for the quality of food, I got the prawn pad Thai and everything was well overcooked, I did ask for some olives while I waited but the waitress never came back with them, I wouldn't return here, oilys down the road would have been a lot better shout.

Good service, good food and bed was well comfy. For bar and restaurant easy access for ground floor bedroom's with walk in shower good but all doorways have a 9" step up so not to good for some disabled

Came here for Valentine's Day and wasn't disappointed. Very welcoming staff who were also efficient and friendly. While you don't come here expecting cheap food and drink, I felt the prices for quality were very reasonable. The hotel itself is very lovely and far enough away from the main road for traffic to not be a distraction. The Cocktails were perfect as was all the food. The portions were just on the right side of being haute cuisine (which isn't filling!) and so, after three courses, we were nicely full - just! Price for two, with lots of drinks and three courses (starter and pudding shared) came to £94.

Sad occasion for us we just lost a uncle but the tea and sandwiches chips and sweets were lovely and tasty thanks to all staff involved xx

Updated review, still decent food but it seems that the portions are getting smaller. 5 quid chicken skewers starter and you get 2 skewers with less than quarter a breast of chicken on both combined. Literally 3; 2.5cm cubed chicken pieces on a 4in skewer. So 2 of them and a small tub of bbq or satay sauce is not worth a fiver. Dipping breads, seabass, burgers etc. All still good but slightly overpriced. PICTURE OF 1 OF THE CHICKEN SKEWERS. YOU GET 2.

Delicious meal, well presented and friendly staff

Very average food. The main course lamb portion was a disgrace, I had to ask if they could put some lamb on mine because it was so tiny.

Nice food and drink. A little on the expensive side for what it is but it's our closest place so 4.95 a pint it will have to be hah. Could do with doing some specials like happy hour or ladies night/ cocktail night (half price) or something once the furore wears off about being allowed to go out again as I remember it was fairly quiet prior to Covid...... I have been asked by google to update this review as I have just been again. Same as before. Overpriced food and drink but it's the only place we can walk to in 10 mins so we will come again. Staff are nice, service a little slow but all in all I'd say 7/10.

First time I have ever been and it was lovely we hadn't made a reservation just called in on the off chance we could get a table, it was no trouble at all to the young ladies who showed us to a table took our drink order and food order the food was good and hot. Would recommend to anybody to go and have a meal.

Great food and excellent customer service

The food was delicious and could not be faulted in any way, the service however was completely inadequate. Our first drinks order was completely forgotten about, eventually our order was taken but we still had to wait for our drinks. The young girl serving us had not idea what drinks they sold, the fact she was offering a sauce with the steak (she was just repeating what the kitchen had said to her) she was friendly and pleasant but had been let down by lack of training. We waited well over an hour to get our main course and this was the general theme of service. You waited a long time for everything and as the restaurant wasn't busy it was hard to understand why. I took a birthday cake in and we waited so long for it we were trying to keep the person who's birthday it was from leaving as he thought the meal was finished. I asked for the bill but that never arrived so I had to look for someone, the girl I asked didn't even apologise she put it in front of me. This was to celebrate my dad's 82nd birthday, so we felt a bit let down. The food was the saving grace as it really was so delicious.

Good adherence to covid rules. Lovely meal in well distanced surroundings. We will be back

Although we live only a few miles away this was our first visit! We have been missing out! The food was great. Nicely decorated inside and friendly staff. We will certainly be back.

Nice place, food okay (ish) (steak over cooked) service very slow, very young girls waiting on so not very professional however they were polite just not experienced enough. Be prepared to go to McDonald's for ice cream if you want a pudding, we waited over 2 hours for only 2 courses!

Staying for a few days. Have to say the food coming out of the kitchen is first class. Both in terms of standards of cooking and presentation. Young serving staff are enthusiastic and pleasant. Great ambience in the conservatory restaurant. Will be eating there again.

I was so disappointed with our visit. Reception and waiting on staff were pleasant and attentive but unfortunately the meal did not live up to our expectations. When I have a roast meal I like it to be hot but this was only warm at best. Vegetables consisted of carrot/Swede mix, mashed potato I think the other was leek and onion but with a mustard sauce not to my taste and peas which in my opinion isn't exactly a sunday lunch vegetable. We had to ask for a spoon to serve the veg which was brought after the waitress took a drinks order for another table! Both my partner and I had lamb which was very thin pieces and a bit tough we had to request mint sauce Overall I would rate it at average and am sorry to say we wouldn't return.

Lovely food if a little on the expensive side for what is basically pub grub. Lovely staff and nice cold beer. Not sold on the whole Conservatory bit, it's a bit warm in there on a summers day and with flies everywhere kind of spoiled it.

The decor looks to have recently been renovated to a high and modern standard. I stayed with a colleague for two nights and the food was fabulous both nights. Compliments to the chief.

Everything is just delicious. From the Cumbrian classic dish with a twist to the Asian remake, everything was perfect. The service is perfect and friendly. I rarely take pictures of my food but it was too cute and even more delicious. And for the Americans who are looking for a brownie, they know how to make a good and tasty one.

We had a meal on Saturday night and it was awful ,no seasoning, the steaks were soggy and greasy, the chips were soft and full of grease .Everyone's plate was covered in grease and we paid around 50 pounds per head and we all left hungry and very disappointed. We did mention that the food wasn't nice and got no response off the waitress. We did email our concern about the food with no reply ,.

Below average meal, did say this at the time but issues were not addressed

Food is great but I am a wagon driver with a small budget I had a two course meal and two beers shandy it was £30 it was more a place to bring someone to impress like a new girl or a business meeting great decor and the staff friendly

Wonderful place to visit. Beautiful conservatory area to sit. Staff are lovely people, will do anything for you. Free blankets if you want to sit out when it's a bit nippy. The food is delicious and second to none. Took my friend for a birthday lunch she loved it. Would thoroughly recommend this place

Had several meals here as staying as a guest in the hotel. Each meal has been delicious and very well presented. The staff are attentive without being to fussy. Try the speciality ice cream as a perfect end to the meal. Yum
