I've been coming to dad's lane fish bar, since i was a little kid during the 80s & continue to order from them. I often tell my friends that Dads lane do the best fish & chips in Birmingham, by a country mile. I'm a bit of a food connoiseur myself, trialling food at new restaurants / kebab shops but when it comes to fish & chips no one can compare to these guys

Fantastic deals with a great menu. I have been visiting this Fish and Chips shop for many years. Never been disappointed with the food or service. Always served warm even as a takeaway!! Yummy 😋

Good traditional chippy, good food with loads of choice on the menu and a super service. The fish cake was great, my wifes favourite and the fish and chips were overall good.... hit the spot!

We went to the restaurant because we like there fish. It was very disappointed while we eating the food Staff start moping the floor on 9:15 pm with very strong bleach we couldn't eat and came out. before I came out I have complain to the owner he told me this is not a problem smell will go after few minutes.

My fave chippy in Birmingham, always try to come back when I'm in the area. Despite price increases everywhere still represents good value and is consistently good. Staff are always polite and efficient and food is always hot.

Hopefully I can update this to a 5 star review. Made a special journey as opening hours on Google said 12 till 2pm on a Saturday. Was closed.

Very reasonable price and very filling. Definitely best fish and chips. Batter was thin and crispy yet not stale and hard like some other places. Chips were very good quality too. Run by the same family since 1969.

Had takeaway, Fish and Chips and Battered sausage. Service was fast and food was great and fairly priced. Definitely a contender for top fish and chips! They also have small fried chicken wings for variety.

This is a smart place and has had a good reputation. Sadly what we had tonight was flabby chips and a grossly overcooked piece of haddock. The portions are large but so then are the prices. The fish was a good size but spoilt by the cooking. On the other hand the mushy peas are underdone.

Tried the place after seeing / hearing reviews. Tried the restaurant, which was pretty decently set out, basic tables / chairs but was clean. I arrived, was asked to take a seat and a waitress came and took my order. Only 3 other people in there, so not too busy. Food arrived within 10 mins and fish looked lovely, freshly cooked but a bit small. Chip accompanied in a small bowl, again smaller portion than I was expecting. Accompanied with a small serving of curry sauce, which tasted ok. Ordered a can of pop to wash it down. Fish was lovely, nice crisp batter but quickly disappeared and along with small serving of chips, left me a little underwhelmed and half empty. Came to the bill ... over £16!!!! Fish n chips (curry sauce) were £14.40 ... and £1.80 for a can of pop!!! So food pretty decent but both Fish and chips too small, curry was quite tasty, service and layout were good but those prices were too expensive ... appreciate they are a business and need to make a profit but by contrast, my local (and no1) Fish n chip place charged just over £10 for a large fish and regular chips ... and it is ALWAYS on point ... TH

Deserves 0 me and my wife went to sit in. Firstly I have been here many times before I can see the food isn’t the same the owner or one of the workers is very arrogant made me get my food to take out won’t be wasting my time here again. Hope others don’t waste their time here neither many better better places in brum with much better food and way better owners who know how to treat their customers right !

I gave one star only because lowest actually deserves 0 food isn’t all that not great. customer service is next to nothing I asked simple questions such as what drinks they had they couldn’t tell me lol one of their workers or possibly the owners is very arrogant. Won’t be going there again !

It was my first time eating fish and chips in England. Since it was my first order, I asked them to select everything one by one. Wow... I went there just in time because it opened at 5pm... It's soooo delicious. I think it was a mini cod set considering it was 6 pounds, but it was really delicious... The staff was friendly, the price was reasonable, and it was one of the best experiences I had in the UK.

NOT HALAL! Be careful! The fish is mixed with the meat products. When I enquired with the owner if he could separate the items, he was very blunt and refused to acknowledge the issue. I would give 0 stars if I could. Disappointed

Not great! Was pretty bland, the fish was small for a large and the curry sauce was too watery.

Can't see why all these 5☆ reviews. Ordered 2 large fish and chips (£22) Got home fish was still watery undercooked. Chips where soggy and both things were pretty tasteless. Much better fish and chips in other places!

Went at 12.45pm today and there was plenty of seating space. Service was happy and the food was prepared fresh whilst the wait wasn't long. Well presented meals. The batter was crispy and the fish was nice and flaky. We ordered hake, haddock, cod, fish cake and scampi; all fresh and cooked on the spot. To be honest, it was a nice place to eat and had a pleasant and tranquil atmosphere. Would highly recommend the restaurant. There was plenty of flavour and generous amounts of sauces. We didn't have to ask for more. The curry sauce was spot on! The mushy peas weren't dry like other places and the chips looked home cut and cooked. Was a good place to take a lunch break, from work.

Having visited here a couple of times now, it's just a hype. Despite the food being freshly cooked and the service being quick, the fish batter is pretty much tasteless and mostly burnt.

I went to Dad’s Lane Fish and Chip shop for a Friday night takeaway. As I had heard very good things about the place from its recent great publicity on social media. Upon arrival, I noticed the long queue outside that establishment. I said to my partner that it must be a great place! Staff were very friendly and helpful, that must be emphasised. And very generous with their portions. However, when we got home and sat down to eat…….the chips were not cooked at all, rock hard and completely white. We ate the haddock which was nice, but in fact quite average. It is a shame as it looks like such a popular place, but the quality of the food, I’m afraid, does not match up to the reputation it appears to have built. I think whoever was making the chips was rushing them out as there were a lot of people waiting. Not acceptable. People would rather wait for cooked food than uncooked.

Lovely fish and chips. Large portion of (cone of) chips. Tasty curry sauce. Been here twice now. Doesn't disappoint. Can eat in or take out. Plenty of parking.

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time

Didn't rate the chicken meat & chips, a lot of bad chips and the meat was not very tasty at all. It was almost like they'd thrown it together. Disappointing 😞

Best fish and chips shop in Birmingham.

I used to be a regular at Dads Lane. I’ve noticed every time I visit the food just gets worse and worse. My husband visited yesterday and we were not happy with our food at all! The haddock is always spot on HOWEVER the chips are always so so bad!! They’re always soggy, stick to each other and tasteless!! Well yesterday, the chips were atrocious (check the pic). I had to bin over half of them. The curry sauce had been watered down and lacked flavour. Ohhh and two weeks ago they failed to give my husband the gravy he’d ordered. He only noticed once he got home.

Great service despite being very busy every time been. Hot fresh food served rapidly and with a smile. Its worth the 45 min drive for me to get there.

Have been twice in last couple of months, has been fantastic. The service is superb, owners seem to be front of house, always friendly and professional. Highly recommended, probably one of the best in Brum.

I’ve heard a lot about this place and it doesn’t disappoint - it’s outstanding, now I’ve had my fair share of fish and chips due to my husband’s obsession and this place is by far, the very best. We ate in and the fish was crispy, huge, white and flaked in a heavenly way - the flakes were gigantic and so pure white it’s hard to describe - it made me wonder what all the other places are selling - the chips were beautiful too, they came in a bowl, were crispy on the outside and fluffy and cloud like within. The mushy peas were mushy peas and the curry sauce my husband had was good curry sauce - the hero here is the fish - it’s the fish from your childhood, and I can’t get over the flake- beautifully seasoned and honestly the best I’ve had in at least a decade - The staff were so friendly as well, the boss kept the doors open for us and let us eat in even though he’d closed the doors - he re opened them for us - hot fresh, tasty and reasonably priced - you gotta eat here - we’ll be going back regularly - a Birmingham institution ! If I could give 10 stars I would and I’m fussy.

Came here as I kept reading all the reviews of how great it is. Travelled over from Solihull and wished I had stayed local. Went over on a Friday evening to get fish n chips and the que was huge - Great sign of a good chippy? No, finally got to the front of the que and was told the fish was still cooking and will be another 10 mins. I couldn't be bothered to wait another 10 mins on top of the 20 I had already spent in the que so I ordered a donner kebab and chips as an alternative. Returned to my car in anticipation of enjoying a good meal and all I can say is DISAPPOINTED !! The kebab meat looked like it still had a pulse sloppy greasy and pale it was clearly undercooked (to my liking). The chilli sauce that was plastered all over it was awful it genuinely tasted like it had been watered down. The chips on the other hand were nice so I ate them but the kebab went into the bin next to me on the side of the road. Maybe it was an off day I don't know but I won't be returning there anytime soon.

Great portion of chips, loads of donor meat on the kebab, and the staff are lovley. The price is great too. The portion of chips we couldn't fi ish off between the two of us.

Amazing. I find some chippys are hit and miss, but Dads lane is perfect every time. Fish always tastes fresh and the chips are spot on every time. If you aren’t feeling fish and chips you can instead get one of their kebabs which always hit the spot.

A choice of Fresh fish. Very crispy batter. Pies and sausages too.. Fat chips.. Lots of them and proper mushy peas...Perfect.... Excellent, the best, shown the long queue on Friday nights... And all served for takeaway in white paper... with a friendly smile. You can eat in the restaurant too. Is a good idea to book. Dined in recently, May 2022. The battered cod was delicious.. Chips served in a wire basket in 'newspaper' greaseproof paper. Had my usual mushy peas... And, ginger beer! Schweppes.. Followed by a chocolate cake and ice-cream!!! A feast! Food as delicious as ever in August 2022. Highly recommended.

Absolutely without a doubt the best chip shop around. The fish is fresh and the chips are crispy and golden. Delicious kebabs, huge portions and a gorgeous sit in restaurants with upstairs and downstairs seating. On top of the quality of food the couple who own this shop are the nicest folk. They get to know their customers and are always a friendly face to stop and talk to. We come and feed our family, and never ever has this place left us disappointed. Been coming here for years and we drive out of Moseley to make the trip over there because honestly no other chippies compare!

I have visited the establishment a few times now and still have a few more item's to try from the menu and have yet to experience dinning in the resteraunt side rather than the take out side but i have to say that the mini fish , chips and peas and also the donner meat and chips in a tray and also the chicken meat and chip's are on the money and fairly priced. The shop on appearance looks clean and tidy and the service and staff are very welcoming and friendly all in all well worth you paying it a visit when in the area..👏👏👏..⭐⭐⭐⭐'s for now

Best chippy in Birmingham. There are lots of staff so even with long queues due to the popularity of this fish and chip restaurant you always get served hot and fresh food in minutes. Batter is a secret recipe, golden and crispy. The family vibe is something that makes the place 5*. Greek Cypriot owners so they understand their produce more than all the pop up here today gone tomorrows. They've been running this place since the 1980s....

Great vibe, good portions, plus expect a queue as this place is popular as it gets. Fish and chips are outstanding. Chicken tikka less mastered, and expect parking issues though. Staff is friendly to the roof!

Delish fish and chips. Fried in vegetable oil and separate from all meats. New extension restaurant to the established fish and chip shop is a delight too. UPDATE: 4 years on the fish is still exceptionally good. The Cod was amazing. Only word of warning i'd give... they have recently stopped accepting American Express cards so take a Visa or Mastercard!

Very nice food and excellent service. Cod and scampi are very fresh and the chips are chunky and fluffy. Mediterranean chicken is a bit too minty but the doner is on point. Very nice seating area next to the main kitchen but also upstairs if you want more of a restaurant feel. Once you are seated a server comes to take your order and food is with you in good time. Would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

I read a review online that glowed so much about this restaurant and simply had to come. I was met with such a warm welcome by the owners it couldn’t possibly be anything but amazing. The food is simply brilliant and the restaurant is a really lovely. I can honestly say this is the best fish and chip restaurant in Brum and recommend it unreservedly! Enjoy!

Both myself and my girlfriend visited here and both actually had the chicken pitta. We actually sat in, they have a cute little seating area on the side of the restaurant which we loved. We were seated by a young chap who was so pleasant and informative as an excited couple coming to visit a highly recommended chippy, not knowing what to order. WILL rush to come back despite our gym regime! Thank you again for the great food and equally as good service! Chris

We have not been for a few years but this was even better than we remembered. Friendly staff and quick service. There is a queue outside waiting for the doors to open at 5pm. Did not disappoint. HUGE portions. Lots of menu items if you are not a fish and chips person. Fish is fresh and batter is crispy but not too heavy. SO much better than these newer more expensive fish and chip shops. Highly recommended- you will not be disappointed

Wow, what an amazing night. Booked table for 26 people in advance. Top room was perfect. Staff attentive and very engaging which made the experience even better. Food without doubt is the best fish and chips in the area by far. Submitted choice of menu beforehand too which helped greatly. Our mom enjoyed every minute which was the main aim. Very memorable and thanks to all involved. The owners are amazing fun people too.

In October I had 2 small cod & chips from the takeaway which cost £4.99 each and were very nice, so I took a friend to eat in the dining area. I realise prices have gone up, but I was shocked at what I was charged. Small cod & chips £9.80, Haddock & chips £12.90, piece bread & butter 50p, small bottle water £1.50. As the chips were served in a basket, the portion size was small. I was very disappointed in this visit with the price and it definitely was not worth the money. I shall not be using them again.
