Curry Mahal in Bexley

Found hair in my food. Rude staff, owner accused me of placing a black coloured pube in my own food. My hair is grey and my wife is blonde. The food was cold too and never tasted fresh. Once we found the pube. We never finished our meals. This place needs a hygiene inspector. Don't believe the positive feedback, the owner gives discounts to those who will leave good ones. Terrible!! On top of this. The staff are not even Indian. I think people in sidcup see brown people and curry and think "Indian!!". Sadly not. I heard them waffling on in their own tongue and its clearly Bengali. This is called passing off. If a pub bottled supermarket vodka in a expensive empty bottle of russian vodka and sold it for retail. They'd be prosecuted! I dont know why its any different when the chefs/cooks are all from Bangladesh! This explains why the food does also not taste authentic and relevant to India. Also, no tilapia option!! If you want quality alcohol or mixed alcohol beverages. Buy it in a restaurant where the bar staff actually have tried alcohol before themselves. The staff are muslim. This is a problem if the wine is off and they wont try some to corroborate the problem. The chicken is not fresh.. I could tell the chicken was days old and then heated up. Sadly the lamb was also bland. None of the meal had any depth. They sadly either dont use fresh coriander or run out of fresh coriander as it was lacking.. dried coriander is a huge let down. This really is not fresh indian cooking. Even in India the regional style of cooking varies. Its obvious that not one chef is indian. What's also funny! Some of the positive reviews have stock photography of food that's not even theirs!😂

We've been coming here regularly on a Tuesday for a number of years. There is usually 6-8 in our group. We know the owner Mr Khan from his days working at the Oval Brasserie, so we are usually looked after well & the service is very friendly. Unfortunately, yesterday we were subjected to the worse service we've ever had in this restaurant. We phoned & booked a table for 4 at 8.15, and were told if wouldn't be a problem. The reason we booked was because of the conditions of the tastcard offer (2 for 1 on main courses, when booked in advance). We were seated on a small cramped table near the door, even though there were plenty of other tables further in. We mentioned to waiter we had a tastcard, and he informed us it was only valid if we had booked in advance. We told him we had phoned and book previously but he replied that the tastcard offer was only for bookings made at least 24 hours beforehand. We pointed out the conditions on the tastcard app, which stated quite clearly that it was for pre-booked tables & we were entitled to the 2 for 1 offer. He said he couldn't do it, so we asked the speak to Mr Khan, and he replied rudely "Mr Khan is in Bangladesh". We received our food which we have no issues with but it was served in an hostile manner, with no consideration. They forgot parts of our order and we had nearly finished our meal before they finally arrived. When we asked for our bill, we mentioned once again about the tastcard but we were shown a small typed photocopy of an agreement with tastcard saying "offer only available with pre bookings" we pointed out again, that we had booked but to no avail, they wouldn't accept it. The waiter & manager were extremely arrogant & dismissive towards us. We told them we would not be back and that it was a shame, as we like Mr Khan & the food was always great. But they were not interested in the slightest. Mr Khan, if you read these reviews, you really need to keep an eye on your business, because you have lost a group of loyal customers!

Exceptional food with very friendly service, always the 1st choice

Such good food I ended up here rather unexpectedly but it was a wonderful surprise. My wife and myself have enjoyed a early 2 course meal and a couple of drinks in the space of 2hours . perfect for a married couple escaping. Starter misour chicken (excuse the phonetic) tender and well presented. I had a house recommended lamb Jimie Courie (apologies again) with a of the menu chicken mildly spiced accompanied by rice and advised potatoes. Congratulations to the restaurant . Thank you!

Some of the food was cold, but they said it was freshly cooked!! As a result, my friend was ill later that night. When I messaged them the following day, they replied with a laughing face emoji. Not what you would expect but I thought I would share so you can make up your own mind whether you should risk going there.

Only the big guy who is the boss gives good service . Runs out of Kingfisher all the time . Young waiters no smile don’t want to be there. Too long to serve and take orders. Staff training needed. Can be there 2 hours!

We always get takeout food from Curry Mahal , food is always excellent, best Indian food we’ve tasted, they used to be in pettswood and we followed to sidcup when they moved , even though we live in Bromley. Well worth the visit

The food here is absolutely fantastic and I’ve recommended Curry Mahal to a lot of my friends who now go there regularly and they feel the same I’ve seen a few bad reviews on TripAdvisor for this restaurant and I wonder if they have been fabricated comments by other restaurants !!!

Family of 14, ages 3 - 80 had a wonderful time celebrating 80th birthday. Food was gorgeous and superb service. They really made it a great time, with balloon, banners and 2 cakes with sparklers. Have been coming here over 34 years and still as good as ever. Thank you.

Moyn and Jimmy are very dodgy indeed. Mick and Sue who are customers mentioned that Jimmy charges for extra cobras when he sees the person is drunk. He adds on a few extra cobras to the bill. One customer pretended to be drunk and Jimmy added onto the bill a few extra cobras and then the customer complained to Moyn but Moyn did nothing at all about it. The food here is not as good as the Rajdoot in Petts Wood but both have the same menu and the Rajdoot in Petts Wood has some extra nice dishes on their menu. Some people I know have been going from Petts Wood to Curry Mahal in Sidcup and have said it is rubbish.

This place appears to have changed hands. For sure the change of ownership has freshened things up. Really friendly and accommodating staff, and thoroughly delicious food make Curry Mahal somewhere we will continue going back to time and again. Also... we seem to go for dinner when a family had booked a birthday Karaoke night in there. Was a great laugh and made the night for us. Come on guys... you know you wanna make "Curry Karaoke' a permanent fixture.

Have been a local going here for 10+ years, and sadly the new owners have run the place into the ground. Myself and the wife recently ordered a takeaway. The quality of the dishes was very poor and they made several mistakes with the order. I returned to query the mistakes, only to be met by arguing staff claiming I was in the wrong. Even when presented with very clear evidence, they refused to help. Sidcup has many indian restaurants to choose from and I would urge you to go elsewhere.

New owners have ruined a great restaurant. I'm local and have been eating in and having take away for 10+ years, never had such poor service or food as tonight. The staff made several mistakes with our order, and when I took the order back they refused to accept their mistake - despite the very clear evidence of completely wrong dishes! On top of that the food we did have was really poor quality. This used to be a great place to eat, but the combination of rising prices, poor service and now wrong orders means we won't go again. Simply not the place it used to be.

Food is ok nothing special. The staff here are so rude as to Royal kitchen down the road which is the same company owner. Food is very overpriced for what it is and staff need to learn how to deal with customers in a friendly and polite manner. Food is always late that's probably because they deliver and appear on food sites in Greenwich when they're based near Kent!

I’ve always loved the food here because they have some unusual dishes from the norm. Was so delighted on Sunday when the new owners talked us through loads of unusual new dishes we’d never tried before. They were stunning. Highly recommend giving them a go. Loved if so much going back this coming Sunday

Just an off chance pop in as staying at Premier Inn nearby. The food and service was fantastic. Highly recomend this restaurant if you like Indian food.

We have visited Mahal over many years and been very happy - the business seemed to suffer during COVID period and whilst providing good takeaways, it was evident that the restaurant business suffered. We visited last week and met the new owner/manager and complimented him on great food and service. We will certainly visit again…

Restaurant is under new management now. We visited once recently and can see massive changes. Staff are trying their best in terms of food and service. We really enjoyed the whole experience - food was great, and service excellent. Already booked for Valentine's day :-) Keep up the good work, guys!

We ordered a curry takeout from Curry Mahal , which used to be located in pettswood radjoot our favourite Indian food , luckily we found from someone they had moved to sidcup annd changed name to Curry Mahal and food was delicious as always, had a wonderful meal tonight! All I can say is glad we found them again after trying other Indian takeaways and had been disappointed 5* very happy customer

Hubby and I went here on Wednesday. Its was brilliant, the food was so good, best Indian that I have ever had. Staff were very good and prices not bad either.

This is under new management and what a difference! Excellent choice on the menu with some very new dishes. Friendly service and reasonably priced

Totally understaffed for even a Thursday night. Food was very mediocre- no onion bhajis- seriously?? are they not made from fresh?. No working toilet either. The ladies was closed, so everyone had to use the mens- the flush did not work in this toilet either...

Just visited curry mahal, the service was excellent and the food was so good! Very reasonably priced too, and the portion sizes were also very substantial. Definitely will visit again in the future.

Ordered via their website it said 1.30hrs to delivery. I rang explaining this was too late and I will cancel the order. Informed it would be delivered in under an 1hr. Well 2hrs and two phone calls later and it turns up wrong and I had to reheat the food. Will not be using or recommending. Overpriced as well !

4th April 2022 the food quality and service was first class albeit quiet on a Monday. Certainly would go again and no hesitation to recommend it. Unfortunately not local to me.

Really not good. Booked but wasnt down on the list but had a proof. Left for 45mins before ordering. Didnt have the duck starter so ordered king prawns, hot 2 small prawns which were burnt. Just finished starters when mains arrived. Put on the table but no knifes or forks. Food was just ok at best. Asked for 4 coffees told sorry No coffee. When we asked for the bill, we were asked what wed had to drink, told it didnt matter if we couldn't remember. so we told them it wasnt hard to remember and was told "ok I'll put that down but doesnt matter if you cant remember" like we'd lied. Food was tasty however the chicken pieces in my dansak were overcooked. I was disappointed when I found that the prawns in my Tiger Prawn biryani were definitely tiny frozen prawns. This restaurant used to be such a nice place. Many were waiting ages for food; they seemed to be so focused on their takeaway and deliveries that the dinners in the restaurant were forgotten. I sadly will not be eating in there again !

Waited over two hours for our food, rang restaurant and was told our order was on the way and would be 7mins, waited another 30 mins then rang restaurant again and was left on hold for 10mins, eventually spoke to a member of staff and was told our food hadn’t even left their kitchen yet. Visited with my adult daughter - we'd been once before about a year before and on both occasions enjoyed it. The food was good plus the staff friendly and answered questions on the dishes - overall enjoyed and would go again.

We ordered our food at 18:00. We were told 50-60 mins. After numerous phone calls we were eventually told 'the driver had dropped our order'. That was at 20:00 but we would get the food asap & a bottle of prosecco as an apology. The food turned up at 20:40 minus my husband's main course, chicken jalfresi. Dreadful. Ordered a takeaway online at 7pm with an estimated time of between 45mins and an hour. An hour comes by, no food. Made a phone call, said it was still cooking and would be ready and delivered in 20 minutes. Another 20 minutes goes by. Still no food. Second phone call made - “should be out for delivery soon”. It took a total of 2hours from placing the order to the bang average food to arrive. The prawn starter costing £6.50 was two measly prawns - embarrassing is an understatement. A rice dish was missing. The only saving Grace was the 40% off - but still wouldn’t pay what we paid. If you can’t handle a promotion - don’t do one! Staff promised a phone call with “the guvnor” and yet to still receive one. Won’t be ordering again. Due to this, one of our party had to go and work a night shift without food because of the lateness!

My Favourite Indian Restaurant in Se London. I’ve honestly eaten in majority of Indian restaurants in se London over 30 years & this has to be the most consistent favourite out the lot. Most in this area are good but getting the right dips with you popadoms, the right heat level, sauce thickness, flavour & good naan is paramount. Keep up the good work gents👍

We always order the set meal for 2 and it is always amazing. The food comes piping hot and the flavours are unreal. The chicken is cooked to perfection and every dish is very tasty.
