Be prepared for: Prices 20-30% higher than shown on menu! To pay £7 for pint of Coke Zero! Pay for any extra condiments! To be left waiting while they prioritise and deal with takeaways! Curries that taste like casseroles/stews with frozen vegetables & partially cooked naan! A LOT of BS from the manager/owner! No wonder this place is always empty! NEVER again!!

I returned here after 2 years. We were remembered and welcomed with open arms. The food and service was as outstanding as the last time we came. I just wish I lived a little bit closer so I could visit more regularly. Very friendly atmosphere with good quality food and service. Would recommend to everyone.

Pretty grim. There's no doubting that the owner is very friendly, but that's not camouflage enough for the poor quality of the food. The butter chicken was a bland soup with bits of chicken in it and the prawn dhansak probably had more in common with Patak's than genuine Indian cuisine. The naan, which held up the order, was cooked to the point of cremation. I've had much better and wouldn't recommend this place. Hate to sound mean-spirited but, if you're paying good money, you should get good food. This wasn't it.

The absolute worst experience. On arriving we had to knock on the kitchen as there were no staff in the restaurant. It took ages to get served . They are more interested in their takeaway business. The onion bhargies were like dried out bolders the aloo chat had Apple, Carrot, peanut and topped with Bombay mix... what country are they in ! We made our excuses and left asking for our main to boxed up.. it was horrendous , lamb chops were mutton and tasted awful, so greasy. The Rogan Josh was full of grease and it tasted like a roast chicken had been just added to some random sauce.the bar had hardly any drinks and decor was drab.. I would not want my worst enemy to go there .. avoid avoid avoid

Solo take away. Tue night. Chicken tikka, aloo sag and Bhajis. Nice popodoms added no extra. The main dishes were clearly cooked from scratch and were very tasty, nicely spiced and flavored. The chicken had clearly been cooked on the tandoori grill - good sized chunks. All in lovely and very reasonably priced. I’ll be back!

We thought we would have a treat as we don’t often get take-aways. The food ordered took over an hour to be delivered (early Monday evening). Plastic cartons did not keep foot hot. Raita was like warm milk. Greasy samosas. Pilau rice was horribly sweet. Spicy popadoms burnt. I rang to query my bill a day later as it was more expensive than I had worked out from website prices. Told due to supplier increases etc they had put them up. Chicken dishes that were £9.95 on website now £11.95!!! These increases are not proportionate and should be updated on website. Overall far too expensive and won’t be visiting or getting a delivery again.

Unfortunately I wasn't very happy when I arrived to pick up my takeaway as was charged £2 extra for my Jalfrezi dish which was advertised on the menu both online and in the restaurant at £9.95 but was told the price on all lamb dishes had been increased to £11.95 due to the war. And I was also chaarged an extra 0.50 for using my card to pay. So all in all a Jalfrezi and pilau rice with yoghurt side dish cost me £16.56 to collect...pretty sure that's more expensive than most Indian takeaways in Bath. Menu prices need updating! Order also took twice as long as what was specified. Staff were friendly and welcoming but I felt it was overpriced for a takeaway. Prices need to be updated clearly so customers pay what they expect to pay.

We live near this place, and walk past it on our way to town. It's become a little meme to see how many people there are in there - which is usually 2, or none. If it's 2, they're always in the window. My other half won't go in owing to reports of dodgy toilets, but I've been determined, and finally paid a solo visit. The interior really should be Gd2* listed, as it cannot have been changed since the 1970s. Flock wallpaper, mock leather seats that would have been green at one time, now a Dulux "white with a shade of mint". The chintzy side plates at one time were printed with "Curry Mahal". They now read "Cu hal". As entirely anticipated, the food is also straight from the 70s, but should not be afforded a listing. We all know how brown was THE 70s colour and everything here is brown. The prawn on the puree was absolutely brown and tasted of precisely nothing. The puree was, however, thin, crispy and piping hot. Not sufficient to gain another star though. Naga lamb was the identical brown in a swamp of brown gravy. There was a bit of a kick, but not a Naga kick. The lamb was quite tender, but fatty. Bhindi was stewed to a soup, and brown. I asked for cider, he moped around at the bar for ages and said "we've got one bottle of fruit cider, but that's it". I had the house white which was passable. For someone with a sparsely populated business serving truly atrocious food, you'd think he would be extremely welcoming to those who don't fear to tread inside - but no. Sullen and sour, like his food. I'm glad I tried it, but never again. And yes, the toilet was extremely grim.

We called to book a table for two on a Thursday evening as we were travelling back from a day out. When we arrived there were two other tables enjoying their food. We both needed the toilet, the ladies are downstairs and scary! In the dark basement I found two cubicles that did not look clean at all, you know what they say about if the toilets are dirty . . . . i wonder what the kitchen is like! From that point on I was anxious how the food would be, the poppadoms and naan bread were great but the curries were more like slop. Lovely people but not a good experience - sorry :-(

We regularly eat at Curry Mahal and always find the food fresh tasting and consistently good. The staff work extremely hard and are always friendly. Service can be a little slower when it is really busy but they go out of their way to accommodate everyone. With reference to the poor review from the group who were there on 25th November, we were also eating in the restaurant that evening. It was a night when the Christmas markets were on and Bath rugby had been playing so every eating establishment in Bath was heaving. People did have to wait a little longer, which was quite understandable under the circumstances. The food is definitely worth waiting for.

We ordered our food really early as we knew that Saturdays are a busy day. An hour later the food hadn't arrived so we rang and were told that it wouldn't be long and it became apparent from their conversations that they had forgotten our order. Another hour later and the food still hadn't arrived. We phoned again and they said it was on the way. At this point we wanted to cancel as it had been two hours but as they had taken the money from our card, we had to wait it out. We phoned for the third time 45minutes later and they said they would ring the delivery driver to find out where he was and call us back. They didn't call back and the food finally arrived 3 hours late! When we checked our order, not only was there a dish missing, the dish I ordered was completely wrong. I looked at the menu there was nothing that vaguely resembled what i had received. I phoned to ask for a refund for the missing items because it was obvious that we wouldn't get them before 10pm. Unsurprisingly we never received refund for the missing items so they basically ripped us off. We feel cheated and they will never get our business again.

We were quite late in the evening visiting this curry house - there were two couples. They had no draught beer, so as the bottled beers are more expensive, they gave me a bottle of beer for the same price as the draught. However, when it came it was a smaller quantity. The waiter wouldn't allow me to make a small change to one of the things on the menu when we ordered. After ordering, he brought us some onion bhajis on the house. They were very nice. I had a vegetarian dish I'd not heard of before. (I can't remember the name of it now). This was really awful. It was like a gravy with a few tiny pieces of vegetables in it and not a very nice flavour. I think this is the worst dish I have had in an Indian restaurant. Went there for dinner with friends, who recommended and rated this restaurant very good - that eventually changed after this visit. The food was ok, but I would not rate it as good. We ordered dishes and explicitly asked to make it spicy, that unfortunately did not happen. After asking for some spicy sauce, they waiter said that we will get some sauce for free. When we asked for the bill, we had a "nice surprise".They charged us 4 naan bread too much, the "free" spicy sauce suddenly costed 3 quid and several elements on the bill were just stated as "food or drinks" with a random price. After checking our food the waiter revised the bill, but insisted that the food and drinks element was right. When I paid then (17 quid) I gave the waiter 20 quid, telling him to give me 3 quid back. He just went away and said thank you. Very nice - not =)In total, I will never go there again. Other Indian places are way better and have better prices.

What does one do for dinner when you live right next door to an Indian Restaurant? Why you order a carry-out Curry of course. Convenience, carry-out, and Curry make for a great dinner. We were tired from a long day of sight seeing and just wanted to get back home and take our shoes off. We saw a sign for the Indian restaurant right next door that offered a 10 per cent discount on carry-out orders. It was a no brainer, so we ordered and shared a coconut based Curry, Chicken Korma. It was mild, sweet and flavorful. We added some naan bread, Samosas and some Chicken Tika. All were packed in individual plastic containers. The owners made us feel welcomed and the wait was short. They even suggested and set up a cab for us for the following Friday when we shared we were going to the train station and not sure who to contact. Beyond a doubt, I heartily recommend the Curry Mahal for a great meal and friendly people.

You are able to bring your own wine with no corkage charge which is wonderful in itself. There is a large choice on the menu for relatively cheap prices. I tried lamb passanda, honey chicken, korma and tikka masala - I'm not that adventurous.... All the dishes were of good size and anything Not finished the waiter offered to box up for take out. Six of us celebrated my birthday at curry Mahal. The food was great. There was a relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very efficient and friendly. The meal was good value and a couple if us took our own wine. I had not been to the restaurant for years because it is slightly away from the town centre but will now make it my 'local'. Thank you fir a lovely evening!

The Curry Mahal looks attractive, and is one of the few in Bath which claims to do take-aways every lunchtime, and to be open 7 days a week from 12 noon - 2.30 pm and 6 pm - 11.30 pm. BUT - we were there on Saturday at 11.55 am to get a take-away for my 95 year old Mum, who loves curry. No-one was there, so we phoned (no answer) waited until 12.10pm, and then decided to pick up a pre-cooked one from Waitrose. At 1.30 pm Curry Mahal phoned back to say they had just opened! So we have no idea whether the food is any good or not, but aren't likely to try again for a take-away!

Love coming to this restaurant when I visit Bath ! I have to say the food and quality of is one of the best curries I have ever tried. The prices for the dishes are reasonable along with the portion sizes too. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is also nice and welcoming. The Peshwari Nans are a must to try at this place !

We ordered for three people over the phone and were told the delivery time will be 1 hour. After 3 phone calls and 1,5 hours later the food arrived. Unfortunately one dish was the wrong food. Another dish I ordered from the menu was lamb nowabdar. The dish did not taste nearly as described and on the box it was spelled different. Not entirely sure if it was even the right dish. Not a happy customer and cannot recommend.

I ordered in as it was my last night in bath before I go back to uni, so thought I'd try this place as its quite affordable considering my budget lol To my surprise this is probably one of the best indians I've had, food was so delicious! The chicken biryani was not greasy at all compared to other Indian takeaways I've had and such a generous portion also the lamb madras was so tender! The food was piping hot too, definitely ordering again when I'm back!

Please do not go to this restaurant the quality of food is absolutely poor. Whatever on the menu they serve exactly opposite. Example if u ask for barbecue fish they will give you fried fish. It's a really shame as they don't even know how to cook proper Indian curry. But advice you rajput or eastern eye ate only 2 best Indian restaurant.if u don't want you ruin ur lunch or dinner.

I get my takeaways from here all the time, it's not 'high end' Indian food but is good honest fare. So...when it was time for me to book for a large party of people I decided to give them a shot. I am so glad I did. They allowed us to bring our own wine for a small corkage fee (even though they are licensed). I liaised with them beforehand to give them everyone's menu choices and they were helpful and friendly throughout. On the night they were attentive, the food was good and a great time was had by all. Everyone had starters, sides and mains and even with the corkage and the service charge the bill came in at about 16.50 per head!!! Lovely people, good food, great atmosphere! They are great for takeaways and even better for large parties. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed an on spec lunch today, Saturday, and having walked up the hill from the town to this restaurant we were not disappointed. Deeta (sorry if the spelling is wrong) was our waiter and we can not fault his service - very friendly with nothing being too much trouble - have eaten here before and can honestly say the quality of the food is consistently good

I love a good curry, and this place is very convenient to those on the upper Lansdown side of Bath. It even delivers, and the staff are lovely people. The food, however is not on par with the other numerous Indian restaurants in Bath. I struggled to narrow down my choices, as the menu is exhaustively extensive. Ma always says that a menu that tries to offer everything usually falls short, and this is the case. We ordered completely different dishes, but they tasted and looked identical, apart from the colour. The curry doesn't have the usual chunks of meat you would expect, but rather carved slices from pre-cooked chinks of meat. A good curry should have the meat cooked with the sauce to seal the flavour, and I found this lacking. A curry should never be insipid. But the whole experience left me a bit wan

It is not often I rate things, but Bath has a surplus of restaurants and this one is just not worth it.There was nothing wrong individually, but as a whole, just go else where. The service was slow, yet not slow enough to complain about. The food was bland and uninteresting, again nothing wrong with it, just boring. The one thing that was wrong was the papadums where soft, not crisp. This just points to the "we can't be bothered" attitude. It could be brilliant but it is just like they have lost the plot and can't be bothered, not going to do anything that makes it bad just not doing anything to make it great.

Lovely place, we brought our own alcohol and they were so hospitable here. The food was very nice and they made up a veggie dish for me based on my favourite veggies and spice level. Naan was great too.We stayed here for hours even drinking the drinks we brought in ourselves and they always made us feel welcome.Would definitely come again.

We stayed across the road from Curry Mahal at a holiday apartment in Bath. Got in late so decided to grab takeaway. Met Deepa, the owner, and were instantly welcomed with open arms. She is a friendly lady and got along with my wife and I. The food was nice and spicy. We had lamb dopiaza and butter chicken and were not disappointed. Spicy and tasty. The next night we went back and this time after dinner they served us complimentary tea and Peshawari naan (sweet coconut naan bread). It was nice to talk to them over tea. I would recommend people who like good curries and gracious hosts to go to Curry Mahal for a nice dinner. Thank you Deepa!

I never thought I would use the word 'bland' to describe a meal at an Indian restaurant, but unfortunately I get to use it in this review. While admittedly we did order food that was not on the hot (spicy) end of the scale, other than the onion bhajis, (which were excellent but could have been served with a nice accompanying sauce), the rest of the food lacked any real flavours (even on a mild spice level). It was bland and boring. The most disappointing of all were the vegetable samosas which appeared to be frozen carrots and peas wrapped in a thin layer of phyllo pastry without any spice added at all (did someone in the kitchen forget?). The service was quick and polite, but the meal was not moreish in any way.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Curry Mahal. My husband and I and our two friends all had something different and it was all very nice. I liked how we were not rushed which added to our relaxation. We took our own wine which also made the experience for us as we all like different wines. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. All in all a very nice evening. Check out the gallery on the website which shows a variety of dishes. However the menu is very extensive with very good veggie options. Worth a visit if you are a curry addict like us.

Went to curry mahal for a birthday celebration with a few mates. Everyone enjoyed their food and the service was very good. It is also 'byob' which I feel is an advantage.

The front door has been there since it was Eduards in the 80s and should have been replaced then. The service was very slow, the beer was weak, and they were delivering more take aways than serving customers, so far from a good start. However the food was good and the value too. So my advice would be, stay at home and have their take away. David Bath

Awful…. Delivery driver was rude as he couldn’t find address (yet have plenty of other things delivered and no problems finding me!) Chips were cold, hard and could not eat and we ordered a kebab and a wrap… hardly any meat, again freezing cold and tasted awful! Will never order again
