It was exactly what we were looking for for dinner. Great service they accommodated all our needs . Great food. And a nice ornate large grand hall to be eating in.

Now the PEARL of INDIA. We have been eating at this restaurant, albeit under a different name for 20-30 years it was always reliably good. So a bit of a surprise to find it even better and very good value. The house red wine was only 5.50 and very acceptable. Popadoms the best Ive had with 4 chutneys again just a few £s. So whilst they are trying so hard- opened 6 weeks ago- you should give it a try. David & Trish

Had a meal here last night with my wife, and thought it was delightful. Going in we were unsure what to expect as it looks a bit dingy from the outside, but inside was a grand historic Georgian ballroom that was absolutely stunning. Thankfully it had delicious curries to match the decor. The Dhaka Lamb in particular stood out, and my wife loved her Tikka Masala too. The servers weren't particularly talkative, but the service was swift and friendly. Do not miss this place!

Love love LOVE this place, it's an absolute MUST if you are in Bath - amazing cuisine, really friendly people, and the location is perfect for touring through Bath. I genuinely cannot recommend it enough - and the price is really affordable too, especially so for Bath. I'm a big fan of the Jalfrazy but for those who can't take the heat as much - the Patia or Rogan Josh (or chicken tikka massala) are all excellent. Especially recommend trying the Bengali dishes and this place does them so well!

I am not sure how they managed things, what is wrong with poeple when we tell them we have an appointment afterwards and want things to speed up a bit. For real, in which restaurant do you see all other people being served except yourself (2 people) for 50 minutes ??? So pass your way on this one, not worth your time.

Food was a disappointment but wasn't expecting much after seeing staff carrying in a big tub of Pataks sauce and a big plastic tub of ready made pappadoms! Bombay potatoes were hard and in a watery sauce as if they had been defrosted. My curry was very bland and I overheard a woman near me said to her husband this is white man's curry not authentic Indian. Even the coca cola was cheap and nasty. Staff were in jeans and t shirts so not presenting a very professional image. The only thing I liked was the naan bread.

Lack of friendly service, seemed like all the staff did not want to be there. Way over priced for the food received. Never brought water after many requests, had to go to he bar. When paying had the cheek to question why I don't want to pay the service charge and tried to charge me for a special Nan when it was a Garlic Nan just to make up for a tip I refused to pay, lieing to my face when I watched him on the screen. Bad vibes are never wrong. AVOID! Better options avaliable else where.

Joint worst Indian restaurant I have been to. Was really looking forward to it but from the very get go it wasn't great, placed a booking which they didn't appear to be aware of however had plenty of free tables. Poppadoms and drinks order was taken swiftly and all was good. We then had an uncomfortably long wait before our order was taken which can be understandable if they were very busy but they weren't and there was plenty of standing around. It was eventually taken and starter arrived in reasonable time. The starters were okay but nothing to write home about, not over cooked but a little slimey. It was after this it went really down hill when we had to wait over an hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive. During this time we had a waiter come to our table once to ask for more drinks and when asking about the food he said he will check but failed to do so and instead went to do drinks for another table. After being there for over 2 hours food finally arrived but the evening was not redeemed. Rice order was messed up and 2 rice's weren't delivered, when mentioned the waiter went and grabbed one of the wrong types of rice and smoked it on the table before disappearing again. The dishes themselves did not reflect pictures others have shown, the 4 pieces of chicken I received sat about the sauce in the dish and for a £12.50 dish the quantity was concerning. Another form my group received less prices than the chicken takeaway starter. Meals were also laden with oil and the taste was distinctly average. The bill came wrong due to us not receiving the food we ordered and they still tried to bill for it. When questioned about the rice and how long the wait was they correct the price and removed £10 from the bill which was pretty poor considering there was a service charge of nearly double that so they still collected a tip despite an atrocious service.

Saturday night in Bath and such a disappointment . Restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived but emptied out whilst we were there. Poppadoms came and had the best lime pickle I ve ever eaten. They had run out of onion bhaji so didn't order starters due to limited veggie choice. It then took well over 30mins for our mains. No food appeared to be coming out of the kitchen in that time but the drinks did ! When mains arrived the veg madras had zero taste I've never had a madras like it ...full of grease/soapy consistency with broccoli , cabbage and zero potatoes and just hot (I don't mind hot but it was bland and no flavour ) . My husband s was good but there was no check in if the food was ok and by the time someone wandered over (they were more interested in serving beers ) my husband had eaten all of his. I complained and refused to pay for that and the non eaten naan. I was offered a pudding and I said I've not eaten anything ...why would I have a pudding!?! Not gonna go back. Shocking service all round.

Very central in Bath so easy to find. On our visit it had (clearly) just been renamed 'Pearl of India'. They also would only accept cash, a situation that we were advised was only temporary. The room where we ate was well worth seeing, large and quite a sight. The service was good and for standard Indian fare, the food was OK. My prawn puree starter in particular was very tasty. We told the staff serving we were not in a hurry so please could we have a rest between courses but unfortunately as they took our starter plates away they immediately served our mains. So, even with the restaurant not being crazy busy, we were in and out very quickly. I toyed with my rating as I wouldn't tell anyone not to go. The food was 'fine' and as standard as all run of the mill Indian restaurants. So i'm certainly not saying "don't go". But I couldn't give it a 4 out of 5 I'm afraid.

Restaurant does reservations and walk-ins. We came at 10 PM on a Saturday and they still seated us for dinner. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. The owner suggested we try the papadam with spreads as an appetizer, we had never had it so he gave us a serving to try- delicious! Sweet to savory/hot spreads that were flavorful but not overwhelming. We ordered a traditional prawn biryani and a chicken tikka masala. Both were flavorful and fit their description profiles 100%. Biryani was served with a mildly spicy vegetable curry and the prawn/rice ratio was nicely balanced. The combination had a little kick but didn’t punch you over with heat. The chicken tikka masala was just creamy and rich enough and the chicken was tender and not outdone by the sauce. Rice served with the masala was perfectly cooked and tasty. Overall a great meal with professional but friendly staff. We left at 11:15 and only then realized the restaurant closed at 11 pm but they didn’t rush us or even hint to us or the other few remaining guests that we needed to ‘finish up’, there were still guests eating and enjoying themselves when we paid our bill. Definitely recommend you try The Eastern Eye when you are in Bath.

The unassuming entrance in Quiet Street meant you had to go up a grotty set of dirty carpeted stairs that put me in mind of queuing back in the day to get in a stale, cheap end club in the eighties. Totally unwelcoming. Anyway, on entering through some skanky doors you are in a large vacuous hall which the owners describe as lofty with grandiose décor. To be fair, with some serious investment this place could be spectacular; as it is it’s dirty, outdated, tired and beyond underwhelming. Naff wood carved bar area with naff neon lights, odd ruched and dirty curtains hanging off the wall and oddly not covering a window, cheap laminated wall signs everywhere; more of the same filthy red carpet; you get the drift. Strangely the place has 100+ covers but the meagre 25 of us dining were sardine packed into one small area. Obviously for the benefit of the serving staff and not the customers. So far this is as enjoyable as getting to a waiting room seat at the dentist. Redemption in the food perhaps ? This is what you might call old school Indian with its weighty and over promising menu. Poppadom’s were average and, to be honest, too oily tasting albeit the standard array of dips and chutneys were slightly better. We had a dry Chicken Tikka which had zero plate appeal and zero taste and served with that useless and totally inappropriate accompaniment, the half-hearted salad (why ?). My lamb Mon Passand house speciality curry was okay but the Peshwari Naan was a disaster. It was undercooked and as floppy as the rim on Gandalf’s hat, and no doubt, as tasteless. I sent it back, with no quibbles from the waiter, and to be fair the replacement was much better. This place just doesn’t cut it and is an ageing relic belonging to yesteryear. It might work for a group of pissed up students at ten in the evening in need of a hole filler before a night out but that’s about it. Shared poppadom’s, two mains with rice and a naan and a large Tiger beer and water was £55 all up including 10% service.

The dining hall is absolutely stunning. Huge big domes in some grand looking hall. Prices were reasonable for the venue and portions, and most importantly, the food was incredible! Some of the best curries we'd had. Was recommended the garlic chili curry instead of my typical madras, it was perfect. Chicken super tender. Rich spicy garlicy sauce. A friend had nowabder instead of his usual tikka masala and again, hit the spot. Mild, richer and creamy like a masala but with cashew nuts blended in. Other meanls were as good. Service was decent. Overall highly recommended! Made my bday feel that little bit more special.

Went here for a birthday meal yesterday. Was unsure at first due to it being so hot outside, but luckily the restaurant had air conditioning and was cool inside. This restaurant seems to have two names, the Grand Eastern and the Eastern Eye. First impressions when you walk up the stairs are wow, because of the three glass domes in the roof, the murals and the huge restaurant. After eating here, I can understand why it was so empty on a Saturday night. No complaints about the service and the food portions were a decent size but the curries were swimming in oil (particularly the chicken mon passand) and lacked any depth/layers of flavour. Suspect the ‘lamb’ was actually mutton in the butty kebab starter. Meal was expensive overall due to the added service charge and extras such as £7.50 for two poppadoms and chutneys. As previous reviewers have said, the stairs leading up to the toilets are grimy. The loo I used had Blu-Tack to keep the lock in place. The whole experience was that the place needs a deep clean/redecorating. My friend also said there were dubious plants he could see growing from the windows of the men’s toilets! Unlikely to return, sorry.

After several days of eating pub grub around the south of England, my family was ready for a change of menu. We walked into the Eastern Eye, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside and the food and service were exceptional. Hard to ask for anything more.

Long past its heyday and all communal areas grubby, smelt of fag smoke and whole place has not been cleaned in a long time. Food, small portions and lukewarm, nothing special., place was virtually empty on a Saturday night. My concerns were such that I...

I am writing this review from the restaurant here. I brought my girl for a date and the waiter literally grabbed her plate before she could complete her meal. I told the waiter to give us just 2 minutes, it is a Monday evening 4 hours away from closing time. He still had the audacity to tell her to take her last bite and snatched it from her. Minutes later the same guy brought the dessert menu shamelessly. I am sorry, it broke my heart when he grabbed the plate from my girl. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Popped here with my niece who lives in Bath as I had an overnight business stopover. The service was soooooo slow. After the initial poppadoms and chutneys it took about an hour for the mains to come out. The food when it arrived was average...

What a lovely find on a trip to Bath Lovely interior and a super meal. The only thing I would say that needed attention was the toilets and the thread bare carpets on the stairs. Otherwise lovely.

A good curry, but not exceptional. The decoration was fantastic and it is an atmospheric place to go. There can be large parties eating and these can be loud. We found the service quite slow - nearly 2.5 hours from drinks order to finally getting the bill - but friendly.

Worst food ever tasted in an Indian restaurant , tandoori chicken just sat in some sort of butter /oil , soggy oiled drenched salad . Curry was equally bad

I have been eating here for 25 years and unfortunately over the last 1 year the quality of food has deteriorated. The meals are too hot as in heat as opposed to having spice. I had a Madras tonight and it was similar to a vindaloo. It lacked a quality spice taste and contained just a dour extortionate heat. Very disappointing meal which I didn’t really eat.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Bath. I have been twice now and had positives experiences on both occasions. The restaurant is very impressive and unique in terms of its styling and the sheer size of it. It can get very, very busy, particularly when Bath rugby are playing at home. However, there were plenty of attentive staff during both of my visits. Drinks selection is some of the best I’ve seen at an Indian restaurant. The bar is absolutely huge. The food is very nice, as some other have mentioned, portion sizes are relatively small compared to other restaurants I’ve eaten at, but it’s perfectly acceptable. Staff are really nice. Toilets are clean, but like other have also mentioned, it would benefit from a refresh and some new carpet on the stairs which look really worn. All in all though, a really good experience and I recommend the Grand Eastern.

Awful experience here on Friday evening. Arrived with a 10 person booking, which they hadn’t prepared for. We were then seated, and told we would have to have the set menu. On their menu this provides a number of options you can choose between. We then to our surprise were bought food over that no one had ordered. We then spoke with our waiter and told them to cancel any more set menu food. We would instead like to choose our food.. like you usually do at a restaurant. Another waiter then came over and asked why we all had menus? That the chef was already cooking our food and we could not change what food we were getting. We all decided to leave as they were being rude and not understanding the issue they’d caused. They then charged us £25 a head for 1 started and a drink. Would not recommend this restaurant there are a lot of other better options in bath to go for an Indian. Swerve.
