Curry Cottage in Maldon

Came here for a meal with friends. Service was very good throughout the meal. Food was delicious and piping hot which was great. Loved the flavours - and the naan bread was tip top. Definitely going back for another meal here.

In Burnham for a weekend course and dined here on my own 2 nights running. V friendly, rapid service and food all freshly cooked, tasty, and well presented.

Ordered Sunday night and food came absolutely disgusting! I don’t know what they put in there food but it gave my cousin food poisoning! I would not recommend this disgusting place

The food was really very good., service polite & professional. The food was fresh, hot and all of the tastes you would want and expect from a good Indian restaurant. Would certainly return, hopefully soon.

I don't understand why this Indian restaurant hasn't had higher stars, the moment we walked in they were very pleasant, place has a lovely feel to it and the food was delicious.

Went tonight with family (22 sep 2023) I rated a 1 because there is no 0. Waited two hours or we ate was Popadoms, order 3 rounds of drinks and still waiting for main, when it came out curry was like dish water,half of the restraunt walked out because of service, Will never step foot in there again, absolutely diabolical!!!!! Order take away on Sunday evening via just eat we use curry cottage all the time food is ok. So we was tucking into our food and the wife said look at this a long hair now yes it can happen I get this so she removed it but two mouthfuls later another hair now this is disgusting on all levels called them wanting our money back told to go to just eat so I did they Informed me that I had to call the restaurant again she phoned only for them to put this on just eat and they wouldn’t return my money only wanted her food refunded as mine was ok, so I decided to leave it but we will never use this disgusting restaurant again I will be informing health and hygiene with photo evidence

Never been here before, but took a chance & was not disappointed ordered from the takeaway menu set meal & it was lovely we both really enjoyed the meal very tasty & plentiful, will use again if in the area.

Very poor, we have been dining at the Curry Cottage for a very long time, the standard of the food is not at all what it used to be, most of the main courses taste the same, a slight variance in the heat the only difference, staff are not welcoming and appear surly. Ladies toilets need an overhaul, not the most hygienic. I have met a few regulars recently who have been taking there business elsewhere, a shame when it was a very good restaurant in the past.

Ordered on line, arrived promptly before time which was great. Chicken tikka the worst I’ve ever had. 2 portions of chips and 2 naans arrived only order one. Won’t be ordering again, a massive disappointment compared to our previous experience.

Ordered starters and waited nearly an hour (there was only a small group of us), one of our group complained and the starters appeared after 50 minutes of waiting. Food was ok but not fantastic. Starter plates were eventually removed and we waited nearly another hour for mains and took for us to complain again for those to come out. The waiters were rude and argued back at us and said ‘what do you expect we are busy’, another sat at the bar just laughing at us whilst plates were literally being shoved on to our table, one plate was placed on top of one my friends drink and left to balance there. Most of our food was cold. Rice turned up on cold plates and the waiter called me a liar when I explained my food was cold. Absolutely dreadful place but I was warned by many not to go there but I had already made the booking. PLEASE AVOID and go elsewhere. Let’s hope this place gets shutdown

Working away and fancied a curry. Called in for a table, staff really friendly. The food was piping hot, fresh and possibly one of the tastiest curries ive ever had. Good value for money too. Definitely recommend a visit

Nice standard curry house, pleasant service but sadly the food was not really up to much. It is cheap but not of great quality. Naan was overdone, curry not very tasty in my opinion.

I have ordered here twice and on both occasions they have been extremely slow (I'm sure they forgot about my order until I turned up at the "collection time" and then waited almost an hour with my not very happy kids!), not provided the correct items and then been extremely rude when I phoned them up about the missing items, refusing to deliver them. They even hung up on me!

Great night out with friend that live local. Service and food is first class and there is a busy but friendly vibe here. Would highly recommend.

Went to the curry cottage for an anniversary meal. The food was excellent, and very good value . Would definitely return.

I am not sure how someone can cook and serve such dreadful food. The food was inedible and we had to throw it away with the poppadums being the only thing that was edible. I should know as I am an Indian and thus feel I know what Indian food tastes like. You have been warned.

Start off with saying that we cannot believe that we were fortunate enough to get a delivery tonight with the snow we’ve had today. It was a really pleasant surprise because my daughter in law is a carer and she had to go out in it and said the roads were bad so wanted to treat her. The food was amazing as ever. Well done curry cottage, you are our heroes

We tentatively ordered through the JustEat app and found that there was an hour wait for delivery. To be expected for a Friday night, especially in lockdown. Half an hour later our meal arrived. The food was roasting hot and tasted great. A small issue with the samosas being vegetable instead of meat was remedied swiftly by the restaurant who apologised profusely and sent fresh samosas along with some complimentary popadoms. They arrived so quickly that they were enjoyed with the meal as opposed to after which could have been the case. There was plenty of chicken in the main dishes and the cuts of meat were plump and moist The rice dishes were also plentiful and well cooked. Some would knock a star off for the small error but considering it was dealt with so well that star is easily won back.

Used to be a great delivery but this is now the 3rd time we’ve received a very very late stone cold delivery. Shame as food is great but shouldn’t have to starve whilst waiting and reheat your meal. Won’t be ordering again - they need to up their game or sort out their delivery times.

We ordered our meals through "just eat " and told it would be an hour . After constant chasing it arrived 2 hrs 40min later . The food was cold and one of our mains was missing . Really not acceptable .

Ordered online on a Saturday night and it said it will be ready for collection at 7.20pm. At 8pm we are still waiting outside the restaurant with no food. Ended up taking 1 hour of waiting in the cold and when we finally got home a rice and poppadums were missing. We live a 15 minute drive away so didn’t think it was worth calling to get go them. Won’t be ordering again!!!

Well worth a visit good service and good food went twice many different things to try and cater for all your spice needs

we were camping at a nearby site and were given the recomendation for this cottage. we aere not disspointed. a good priced meal with some great options on the mneu. good amaounts of chicken and good flavour. if i was in the area again i would certainly return back here.

My wife and I visited Burnham for the first time this week-end in our Motorhome. We pitched up at Wick Farm (very quiet and huge pitches) and had already decided that on Saturday evening we wanted a curry.We were advised Curry Cottage was good and so on advice, booked for early evening. The service was quick, not many smiles but OK, the food however was really good. We opted for the meal for 2 which offered a big choice from the main menu. There was plenty to eat, all of it was good and well presented.So glad we took the advice about his restaurant and on. The basis of our experience, we can highly recommend it,

We live in Southminster and have been trying to find the best local curry that delivers. I think we have found it! The set meal for two was an absolute feast and really good value. Will be back!

I’ve used this restaurant for years and it used to be great, in the last 6 months it’s gone downhill, the staff have become rude and the food has lost all its taste, there’s plenty of others to use, I’ll be avoiding from now on.

Took a long time to be served, although the food was fantastic and tasty. Butter chicken was amazing as was the lamb madras. Thorououghly enjoyed the evening.

You get what you pay for but manors cost nothing and staff should always be polite. We have 2 people serve us, one was very polite and helpful and one was very rude. Food was just ok, would definitely prefer to pay more and have better food and service

Really awful experience!!! We visited Curry cottage for early Father’s Day meal, we were greeted with a frown the manager was raging on the phone, staff were preoccupied with what ever....took our order for drinks and starters after ten minutes, bought up the some popadoms no drinks and when I said”Sorry could we get our drinks” I was told “ You’ll have to wait 5 minuets” really abruptly, I wouldn’t have asked nor would I have minded waiting had they’ve been busy. In summary really rude,unfriendly, not customer focused, worn univiting decor can’t comment on the food. Shame!!!

Family came down for Easter weekend - we chose curry cottage for our meal out. After poppadoms we had plates removed but were given back the same cutlery. My brothers main ‘special’ meal was extremely salty and after persevering with it gave up half way through. Explained to the waiter who was completely unresponsive. Upon asking for the bill twice without it arriving ... finally going to the bar, reiterated how salty the meal was after being asked if we enjoyed it. The waiter just replied he would tell the kitchen. Very disappointing - had looked forward to taking my brother to this restaurant in my home town but now wouldn’t visit again.

Having tried most of the Indian restaurants in the area I always return to the Curry Cottage. Excellent value for money, the take away is always brilliant. Delivery service is second to none.

Stupidly we entrusted this restraint after they ruined my works Christmas party by not reserving our table , however I thought give the benefit of the doubt. The food was over 40minutes late and freezing cold. After numerous calls and excuse I was lied to and then told it arrived on time and wasnt cold. I had the evidence to show it was late and delivered over 40minutes late after being collected from the resteraunt ( it's only 10doors down from us but didn't want to drag the kids out ).so that explains why it was freezing when it arrived at 8pm and collected from the resteraunt at 7.23pm. then after much going back and forth they refunded me 20% of the order. A total disgrace, I'd never recommend them to anyone

Food was lovely and good value for money. My son gave it 9/10 and he is s fussy eater.

Great little restaurant. Good value, lovely food. My only criticism is they do alot of takeaways and take the orders at the bar and the takeaway delivery drivers are constantly coming in and out. I've sometimes felt that the takeaway orders get priority over the in house diners.

Recently had a meal in here it was on a Thursday when many of the meals are 50% off .but becarefull what you order as the waiters are not forthcoming with advice about the discounts ask as you order. the nan breads were the best i have had in years .very clean inside ,out side the building looks a bit scruffy.good food and value if you order right will be going back again

We were seated in the corner and then four more people came in and it was crowded so we were moved to another table why were they not put at the other table when they came in as we were first. Otherwise we enjoyed the evening.

The staff were nice and kept apologising that it was busy (the takeaway was and there were also some people in the restaurant) I don’t mind it being busy - I was just a bit disappointed with the food when it came out. The poppadom’s took ages and didn’t taste very fresh, the curries were okay - again, not very hot. There was nothing hugely wrong, I have just had a lot better.

Dined here on a Monday evening. Very quiet but then Burnham restaurants normally are on weekdays. The service and food were as good as ever and very good value too. We waited just twenty minutes for our main which is exceptional and compared with almost two hours waiting for a main at the Mehek a week or so ago there really is no comparison.

We have been using this place for a quick lazy takeway at the end of the week, on and off for a few months.

My daughter lives in Burnham and suggested me and my wife should meet up with her and her partner for a mid week meal.

Lovely Indian restaurant which had excellent service, food was served quickly and a decent curry! We was on a table of 10 and they managed us without any stress.

Not as good as we thought it would be. Couldn't find our booking at first but sorted it out. Starters were good but curries slightly disappointing and Bombay potatoes not very spicy or hot (as in heat). I think we arrived just when iţ got busy. Reasonable price though and staff were friendly. Would give it another go.

Ordered at 17.10 with a delivery time of 1800 ..food arrived at 18.35 after a phone call.

Curry Cottage is housed in a quaint old building in the middle of Burnham High Street, which really doesn't scream 'curry house' - apart from the quite obvious signage of course!

In a quaint building in Burnham high street. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. We had the vegetable thali and the meat thali, both were served attractively on silver tray. The selection of dishes were delicious and the portions were generous.Would recommend the Curry Cottage for a lovely Idian meal if you in Burnham-on Crouch.

We had a table for 4 which was a bit small because there were so many dishes available on their Monday to Wednesday meal deal. The food was great. The best dishes are sizzler shashlik or tandoori. The house wine was ok so we had 2 bottles. Just under £60 and the leftovers came home in a doggy bag !

Called in for an Indian take away at this popular Restaurant. Very friendly service and didn,t have to wait too long. Food was very good and we loved their take on Chicken Tikka main course. Instead of just pieces of tandoori chicken it was sliced and served with onions and sliced peppers ala sizzling style. Very tasty!

Always get a fab meal from Curry Cottage. Will accommodate for big parties too. They have half price nights and special nights to. Enjoy

had a takeaway and got 2 meat talis, the very best indian food i have had in ages. You could actually taste every spice in the dishes and value for money isnt the word £26 all in. To many individual items to list but definately worth a visit or takeaway, fantastic

Went on a Thursday night half price food night. Book as very popular now. food was great the chicken nazakat is excellent if you are garlic lovers. good service great choice of dishes and drinks all seems freshly prepared and not out of sauce kits..een loads of times and have never been disappointed

Ordered a take away for four adults, told 40 minutes. After over an hour rang told driver left 15 minutes ago. Rang back 20 minutes later told driver on his way. Said they told me that 20 minutes ago ! We're not even 15 minutes away. Then told he has a drop in Althorne first !! Why go out of Burnham with a delivery for Burnham to Althorne then back. This would explain the poor quality of food when it arrived. Chips were soggy main dishes were luke warm. Popadoms were soft. In the same paper bag as the popadom was a menu and lolly pops and hand cleaners, think this may be a breach of health and Saftey alone. Naan bread was just as sweaty as an Olympians crutch. In general this must be one of the most disgusting Indian takeaways I've ever had. I'm glad they aren't my local and I'm visiting. I had one previous bad experience at this Resturant when eating in. Very rude etc etc. Thought we would try a take away to avoid the staff. Having had to chase them up for the delays and finding them just as rude. No more. Never again. You had your chance twice and blew it. Utter waste of money.

Went here last year; both food and service were terrible. but over the last few months, quality of food have improved and service has become slightly more friendly. One waiter stands out in particular, he is the youngest staff member present and he really does go that extra mile to make sure every customer's needs are attended to! The rest of the staff need to take note! '50% off food Thursday's' is a great promotional event and the restaurant is always packed. 5 star for this day!

Called in for a takeaway. Chicken Dansak sauce was pure grease and inedible, Chicken Tikkha was tasteless - not spiced and totally bland. Never again.

Rang ahead to confirm table and availability. They said no problem they were still open etc. On arrival didn't order a starter to save time. Ordered main with drinks. Service was sort of ok at this point. Finished meal and ordered 3 coffees to be told they were closing and a coffee was out of the question. When contested the waiter stood there like a scalded child and said no coffee ! I said then why were we seated if you wasn't prepared to fulfil your service to a customer. He replied no coffee. I said that he could have told us sooner ie we are cleaning out machine would you like to order coffee sir etc and we would have said yes please. How much time has he saved ? Surely it's better to serve and keep a customer happy than to have done what they have done today. AS A RESULT I WILL NOT RE VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN. There are plenty of places to eat in Burnham so it's there loss. There arrogance has cost them a future customer. I also will not recommend anyone to here and advise you likewise. In business today you must offer good food and good service or people will not be loyal ! There attitude stinks. To top it all there was a table of twelve or so still dinning when we left so it's not like they were going home soon as we left. Secondly, how long does it take to clean a machine after closing time. This is shear laziness on their part. Well done your laziness paid off NOT !

If you are in Burnham-on-Crouch and you want an Indian meal, then look no further than The Curry Cottage. The food is heavenly and cooked to perfection. I have never been disappointed with the quality or quantity of the food.Even better if you go on a Thursday evening all eat-in food is half price and I think there is a 3 course deal (£9.99) on a Sunday as well.The only one thing I would say is that on occasions the service can be slow and there can be big gaps in between courses.What would help is for the waiting staff to advise there is a longer wait than usual and also for them to ask if you want any more drinks, but they usually don't which is disappointing. That said the food is excellent and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We go here most weeks, we have been as a couple, with family & also friends we have never been disappointed. Thursday is half price to eat in its amazing. Also had take aways food arrives hot and the same great tastes.

This is the second and last time that i have ordered a takeaway, the first time was a year ago and it was so bad, that i said i would never go back ,we had to sit waiting for nearly 1 1/2 hours and didn't even get an apology, so a year on , you think maybe its ok now and it was just a bad night before , so i ordered a takeaway last night for the family and to my disgust , we ended up waiting nearly 2 hours, and when it arrived, the guy didn't know how much it was and had to call them and not only was some of the food missing but , it was really overcooked and we didnt eat at least half of it , i am really not an overly fussy person , but people please do yourselves a favour and avoid this place, they don't deserve to be in business, i will never go there again.

Popped in on Thursday the 14th Jan 16 for a swift family curry . Was pleasantly surprised that there was a special offer of 50% off food this evening . But after 70 minutes before we received our first starter all was becoming apparent ! . My good lady had to pour her own wine and I had to take my glass up and ask for a refill of the finest Cobra . Then the food turned up !!!! . Well unless you enjoy oil over everything ( even the spinach was afloat ) . My worst curry ever and I'm a curry Fiend . We paid the bill but hope you guys don't get turned over like us . M , J , little Luca and Rosabella .

This is our usual Takeout and sometimes we visit for a sit down meal...the food is always excellent and well prepared...all very tasty...the service is always polite and we know the owner well..we have tried many other Indian Restaurants in our vicinity but none have a patch on Curry Cottage for value and good food

Very good food not the same sauce altered all freshly cooked to your spice liking great value for money on Thursday night as all food half price good selection of beers and wines we eat there regularly and have never been disapointed

Used a lot for takeaway, but last weekend we went for a family meal. Booked in advance, when we turned up they seemed to have no knowledge of our booking, so we had to wait half an hour. Asked if we wanted drinks while we waited, then didn't bring them. When we finally sat down, they took a further half an hour to take our order despite us asking three times if we could order. The food evevtuly turned up 1 hour and 45 minutes after we arrived. When it did, some dishes were Coke and others tasted like they'd been made in extreme haste. We ended up leaving most of it. I can understand problems if it's busy, but it wasn't. This was some real Kitchen Nightmares stuff, and we won't be back. Will be looking elsewhere for takeaway in future too.

Would highly recommend this curry house - there are quite a few local Indian restaurants around Burnham but Curry Cottage really stands out. Two things you don't expect to get in local Indian restaurants are 1) a beautifully presented plate of food, and 2) a decent bottle of wine, but Curry Cottage does both.The presentation of the Chicken Supreme Curry was exquisite and the flavour was excellent too; the wine we had was the Chablis which was amazing and you don't find excellent wine in many Indian restaurants. The service could have been a little quicker if I'm being honest, but it was busy which is also a good sign.

very nice place (small) food was not a lot to write home about it was an curry, good atmosphere it was not the best but not the worst.

My husband and I stopped by here on a Friday night. Burnham has 4 curry houses on the high st and we stopped by this one as it looked busy which we took to be a good sign. However, they could have done with an extra member of staff as they were rushed off their feet which also resulted in being a little curt with us . All of their curries contain lactose due to the base that they use in all their dishes. My husband was unable to eat anything on the menu , and although they accommodated him by making something from scratch, the two different dishes he had used the same spice blend. I went for a lamb methi which was nice. Not the best but not the worst. The hectic atmosphere let the place down.

We visited this weekend and was told it was best indian in Burnham sadly i dread to think what the others were like,staff accomadating and friendly sadly food let it down we ordered chicken dansak and chicken tikka pathia which was so sweet it made your teeth itch,cheap enough but quality not up to the standards of a good indian

Me and my Nan went in for a meal on 50% off Thursdays. Staff were miserable, rude and showed no sign of professionalism. The main meal was poor, The two curries we had were covered in orange-coloured oil, absolutely swimming in it! I made a complaint to one of the staff and he replaced one of the curries, well, I said 'replaced' but all he did was wipe away the oil! I informed the staff again that I was unhappy with the meal and he just replied 'okay' and he showed no interest what so ever... What sort of service is this?? Went in here around 6pm on Saturday 15th August 2015 with the Mrs.I always have to be careful when taking the Mrs out for food as she is one of those weirdo vegetarians.Anyway, there were not many people in the restaurant but the telephones were going one after the other so I assumed that the takeaway business was what they were targeting mostly as a business. We were soon shown to a table. The place looked clean and tidy.Have a look at my other curry reviews as I think they say a lot about me and my love for curry. I hate moaning and appreciate that people are trying to run a business and earn a living. It took ages to get served.every course and every drink took ages. Even the bill.perhaps it was one of these chilled out places that didn't like to rush people but I believe that I am a good judge of a curry house and this place concentrated on the takeaways too much. Fair play if that is the main stream business but close the doors to the public unless you can please them.The popadoms were very nice. The yogurt mint sauce was one of the best that I have tried in years. The chicken Tikka starter was tasteless, It looked yummy and was so tender and juicy but lacked any taste whatsoever.The nan bread was faultless.The garlic fried rice was yummy.My chicken ceylon was near on perfect 90% but no wedge of lemon in with the sauce.My Mrs enjoyed her Veggie meal and was pleased. all in all, some very nice food but poor quality service. No tip sorry. Next time in the area i will just order a takeaway.Good luck for the future and I hope that you can turn this around and put it right. Maybe it was a bad night. Tried this venue a few times but sadly it it confirmed what was suspected the first time: you are served short measures of cheap spirits - is thus how or why they do the half price nights? If so, keep it! If you do go then only drink bottled beer or wine. Food previously was good - rather than ok - but that too has gone downhill with illness following the day after. Strong words but not without substance. Service was also very strange: asking for ice seemed like a crime and a jug of water was only given three cubes despite asking again!

Table for 4 with all different meals was well presented and very tasty. Friendly service and a 5 hygiene rating. Slightly cheaper than most Indian restaurants so offered real value for money.

Great value four dishes for £8.95. Would highly recommend this restaurant. We always visit when in Burnham just a short walk from the marina

This is a restaurant that we visit regularly and the food was as good as ever on this trip. They do a good lime pickle to go with your poppadoms which is really spicy and their biryani is excellent - good flavour and generous portions. The surroundings are clean and comfortable and the service is friendly. The only comment I would make regarding our visit is that perhaps waiters were in training, but the conversations between staff at the service desk were a bit obtrusive.

This is a must go to in Burnham. The food is wonderful, full of flavour and expertly cooked. If you like spicy curry then you have a variety of choice here or if you prefer mild spice but without losing flavour there is a variety of curry to suit your taste as well.

We had dinner on a Tuesday night and it was really nice, the food came out quickly and was nice and hot, the service was really good, I had heard so bad reviews on the service but we had great service, very welcoming and couldnt do enough for us. The 4 course for £8.95 ws great value, we will def be going again :)

Me and my husband go here a lot. The staff are really lovely. Always friendly. The food is really nice and the portion sizes are good. We never leave feeling hungry. On Thursday the food is half price so book a table and give it a go. £25 for a two course meal with beer and wine for two people would be rude not to.

Ok, first and last visit to the Curry Cottage.We tried this based on the recent 5 star reviews and booked a table, we had been recommended somewhere else but this was close and had good reviews.Service was Slow, food about average and nothing to shout about.The restaurant had only one other table yet it took two and a half hours to get poppadoms and mains.Throughout our meal, staff constantly concentrated on telephone orders and argueing with customers on the phone, quite clearly about incorrect orders.Then arguing with each other in bangla or similar.I am sorry but paying restaurant prices I expect good food, good service and do not expect to listen to the staff arguing.Other reviews appear to confirm this is a regular occurrence and no fluke.Staff didn't even bother to offer coffee or deserts, very poor service.So if you want a good pleasant restaurant meal go elsewhere.

moved to burnham a week ago from london and this was one of the best we have had in ages, so good we had an home delivery 3days later, large portions

We went to curry cottage tonight and had a lovely meal we were sat in the corner, the atmosphere was lovely, and waiter was very helpful and polite and very attentive to our needs, the food was excellent as it always is. This is a great curry place if you want a great service and a great meal. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone that comes to Burnham-on-Crouch.

We we're the first people in on a Sunday afternoon. Starters arrived fresh crisp & excellent presentation. Main dinner was superb. Murghi masala, mushroom rice & sag Ponir. For me this has to be one of the best Indian sit down meals I have had in a very long time.I would not hesitate to eat there again.

A wide choice of curry restaurants in Burnham and have trie them all. Curry Cottage Always great friendly service, great food, that is always evolving, couldn't be better. Well done guys.

After coming back from university it was so nice to come and see some friendly faces and experience excellent service. Such a good way to end a busy week! Would highly recommend it!
