Visited for coffee and lunch. Dreadful. Terrible weak coffee wanted me to pay £4.40 for a coffee with an extra shot this would have only made you able to taste coffee. Lots of lovely places in Whitley Bay. Avoid

This coffee shop has changed its name to Reggie’s. Excellent afternoon tea, for types of sandwich, for different cakes, fruit and cheese scones, pie and quiche, with doggy bags to take home the food we didn’t eat. Great staff, relaxed atmosphere.

I went with a friend for coffee and scone my friend had poached egg.The place is lovely, the girl who took our order polite, friendly and chatty. Had the misfortune to choose this cafe one cold morning in Whitley Bay Called in with my wife for a coffee which turned out to be weak and watery A cheese scone which was just pure stodge I only ate half of it . My wife also had an unfortunate experience with her fruit scone the outer layer was so over baked it was difficult to get a knife through, Mary Berry would have been aghast. When I went to pay I was asked if everything was ok, I replied that actually it wasn’t and described the scones in detail describing the cheese offering as the worst scone I had ever eaten. There was no apology or dismay from the waitress she just smiled blankly and said that’s £8.70 please Obviously no gratuity was left and no future visits planned.

My husband and I had breakfast here and it was fabulous and plentiful the artisan toast was extremely tasty I ate far too much but I couldn’t leave it !! Full breakfast had everything doubled I could really have done without the hash brown which was an extra at 70p which seemed a bit steep for a frozen hash brown. The place was tastefully decorated and comfortable wouldn’t hesitate to eat here again.

This cafe is in the centre of town and my wife often calls in. She took me there for the first time last week. I was a little disappointed with the time we had to wait for the order - I think maybe they were short staffed that day.

A cold rainy day in may, what a joy this little place is, we had a large breakfast and small breakfast, fabulous with proper toast made from a proper loaf. We don't have a four legged friend but was pleased to see well behaved dogs are very welcome. Definitely a place to revisit when next in the area.

Cup of Joy was extremely clean, the staff were quick to clear tables, as well as take orders and prepare the order. The service was quite good, although the staff didn't talk very much and it was hard to engage in a conversation with them, which was disappointing. The cafe is in a great location in Whitley Bay town centre, the cafes seems to attract families with small children and the older generation.

A very friendly cafe with some good wholesome food. Good service and well cooked food. My usual grumble, as with most cafes, about not knowing whether you order at counter or is it table service.

Worst value bowl of soup I have ever had! Whilst the soup itself tasted fine, it was really only a half portion and when we complained to the waitress, no action was taken other that being offered "another slice of bread"! ( there was barely enough soup for 1 slice of bread ) I was told that portion of my soup was a normal portion, which I very much doubted as they would certainly get a lot of complaints if they served customers such a meagre amount of soup. Note that when I ordered the soup, the waitress had to check with the kitchen to confirm that they had some left and I was informed that I was getting the last portion. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the last half portion. My view is that if a customer makes what they think is a valid complaint, then some positive action should be taken to make the customer feel happier. I feel that my complaint was virtually ignored! Certainly wont be rushing back to this cafe!!

This cafe looked very nice but sadly my experience wasn’t. Placed my order for a jacket potato with cheese and onion and pot of tea. My tea was brought over and not the best tea, could have been hotter as well. Then my jacket which was very well presented, however barely warm and inside icy cold. I asked if it had been cooked from frozen and told the girl it was still cold. She said yes the potatoes were frozen and she would do me another. I was very disappointed when the second much smaller potato appeared, not nearly as nicely presented. Much reduced topping, think they may have scraped everything of the first plate onto the new one. Outside was hot but inside not piping hot. Worse still the salad was awful and inedible. Cucumber soggy and brown, lettuce brown and wet ,all in a glass dish. Emptied onto my plate and half an inch of liquid was in the dish. Urgh. If I had been asked I would have pointed a out the condition of the salad. But quite honestly I don’t think it would have made much difference. Perhaps staff although polite could undergo some staff training to deal with such errors more efficiently . I left disappointed and certainly not satisfied.

On a lovely, sunny morning a group of us popped in to this establishment in search of a breakfast. It looked fine and the menu was promising. We were the only customers initially. On entering there was no eye contact or acknowledgement from the large blonde woman behind the counter.Having decided on what to order we sat there while the woman behind the counter ubusied herself folding napkins and rearranging things behind the counter. When said we were ready to order we we were curtly instructed to come to the till.Drinks were eventually served and then our meals. Later customers - who seemed to be locals - were met with the same cold indifference. One of our number who had seen the lie of the land decided to look for breakfast in a different place. He had enjoyed his meal by the time we left. We decided to go elsewhere for breakfast in Whitley Bay after that. We got a warmer reception at Lynians cafe and so we stuck with it.Now we might have caught Cup of Joy on a bad day. If not then it’s future prospects are not rosy. Good service is essential for a business like this.

Over the years I have visited this coffee shop under its many previous owners, names, and changes of décor. It has changed hands several times and because of its location, has always been a handy place to meet and eat.But the new owners have in my experience achieved more than all the previous owners. Cup of Joy is not only a great name for this lovely café, because of the great selection of beverages and lovely food they serve, but because they do it so with a lot of kindness and care. It is the little touches that make the difference, the way they greet you, and if you order a hot drink you get a little biscuit on the side. The décor is a mix of country and vintage with no table or chair the same. They have sofas, soft backed chairs, wooden cottage seating and the way it is organised enables you to feel comfortable always. The menu is varied and home cooked and the quality of the food is excellent and freshly made to order. My mum especially likes the fact they have music playing in the background, and if Elvis comes on it makes her day. There is a little step up into the café, but there is always a helping hand to those with mobility equipment or prams to gain access. I have seen someone in a wheelchair in the café, but if it was a larger chair or an electric wheelchair, getting through the door and up the step may be more difficult.I try to come in at least once a week and do so because I know I can feel relaxed and at ease and get a lovely meal cooked with care. Just watching and experiencing how kind the staff are to their customers, refreshes my soul. A true community café.

This was recommended as "a good place for a coffee and a sticky bun". We were in Whitley Bay to pick up tickets so decided to call in and check the menu and prices. We only had a cup of coffee each (it was too early for a meal - said my husband!!!) but were impressed with the pies, cakes and the choice of breakfast. My husband was very impressed with how clean the place was - especially the toilets! We will be back,

Love this place! Have been few times now and I am never disappointed. I go in with my 3 year old and the child portions are plentiful and there isn't a scrap left on the plate. I am pregnant and often ask for bizarre combinations and it is no trouble ;) very friendly staff and feel totally welcome everytime. Child friendly and very good value for money! Will continue to dine here.

When I go to Whitley Bay I love dropping in here for a cup of tea and a sandwich. The staff are friendly and professional, the place is kept spotlessly clean and the food is delicious. I've not only had a sandwich I've had cooked food too. It's also quite reasonably priced for the area and worth every penny.I would highly recommend you visiting the Cup of Joy.

Visited last weekend with hubby and grandchildren. I work closely and have wanted to pop in for ages but never have the time so as we had brought the wee folk with us, we made a point of visiting.Staff were pleasant, the place, including the loo, very clean. The food was really nice and my normally fussy eating grandchildren, tucked in.The place always seems to be busy, even early on a morning and as people left, others visited.Definitely a place to visit if you're in the area.

I recommend Cup of Joy to everyone I know! It's such a friendly little place, and the home-cooked food is really, really good. Some of the dishes I've sampled include the amazing deep-filled quiches, a roast chicken sandwich and the breakfast bruschetta - which is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Kids menu options are spot-on.The scones are great and the coffee is strong. And it's super value for money. It might not look as fancy as some of the other cafés in Whitley Bay, but it far surpasses them in terms of quality of food. Everyone should try this place!!
