We were staying on Skye for a week and after wondering around Portree, this restaurant did not disappoint. I had the cauliflower and lentil soup which was amazing, like nothing i had tasted before, a lovely thick consistency and so well flavoured, my husband had mussels, followed by beef cheek and sea trout, both great and two sticky toffee puddings. The beef cheek was just melt in the mouth, stunning, and a big portion. The atmosphere was lovely, really attentive staff and a lovely complimentary bread basket. The only fault on this night was that the young waitress cleared my plate and side plate whilst my husband was still eating which is not etiquette, and felt odd then sat there without anything in front of me, its quite off putting whilst he is eating and my side of the table is being cleared so please remind all staff of this. We loved it so much that we returned on the last night of our holiday. The restaurant is first come first served, the were full, we wondered around for about 30 minutes and thankfully got a table on the next try so don't give up hope. I got soup again which was butternut squash, this can sometimes be bland but it was anything but, mussels and we got the same mains but swapped around. My husband got the beef cheek this time and whilst the beef was lovely and melt in the mouth, there was not a lot of mash, much smaller than my portion earlier in the week and the carrots were a bit al dente. I got the sea trout with bubble and squeak, whilst eating it I noted there wasn't any bubble and squeak but just crushed new potatoes, without any bacon, cabbage and a lack of sauce, it was completely different to my husbands from before. Nobody came to check on us during the meal, staff seemed to be rushing about without any order or system for who was looking after who. When we went up to pay, I asked if the the chef was a different one from when we went on Friday, it was. So all the chefs need to be consistent on portion size. I also mentioned that mine didn't come with bubble and squeak and she said 'oh yeah we ran out'. Well as a customer it would be helpful to know this when ordering my meal as I ordered it on the proviso that it came with that, and because nobody checked on us, I had to mention it when paying. I think when there are only 4 mains, it is important to tell guests if anything is missing or unavailable and be upfront. We left feeling a bit underwhelmed this time compared to the first. Overall though, this restaurant is a hidden gem in Portree, there is a reason it is always super busy, its the quality of the food. It is definitely the best restaurant in the town as we tried a few in the week we were there and this one we returned to twice. Don't be put off by the set menu as the food is a lovely quality and tastes fresh. Do not pass this by if you're in the area. I would highly recommend.

Visited with my 13 year old son, as we both liked the look of the menu. Although we were a walk-in, there was a table ready for us within 5 minutes. Staff were busy, but still polite and efficient. We were both glad we had ordered the beautifully fresh, plump and delicious Uist mussels as a starter. He then had the scallops with a side of chips, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the sea trout, which was perfectly cooked and went so well with the bubble and squeak and the creamy sauce. The emphasis is firmly on the food. The venue is clean, pleasant and unpretentious, which was perfect for the two of us. Would thoroughly recommend it

Had a beautiful meal here last weekend. We both chose the slow cooked beef cheek and sticky toffee pudding and it was delicious. Two course meal cost £27.50 which was worth it. Service was good and the staff were friendly. Worth a visit if in Portree. They dont take bookings like a lot of resturants on Skye.

Came here with two teenagers and hubby for dinner. We were lucky enough to get a table as soon after we arrived a queue formed outside ( just why you cannot book a table in Portree and have to stand in freezing cold outside for an hour is beyond my understanding- I will ensure to eat in different town in future for sure) I'm not sure if we sat in blind spot but tables around us got served drink and starter whilst we were ignored even to take drink order.. We didn't get a chance to order pudding either as again nobody came. To pay our bill we had to pay at the bar. Staff was very cold and unwelcoming, apart from a one Polish waitress who was unfortunately not taking orders. It felt bit strange inside. There is NO flexibility when ordering for kids, it is two course only as the waiter said. Food was well presented, well cooked and delivered fast. My daughter got her seafood platter delivered earlier before mains came out, thanks to the Polish waitress. I had mussels and scallops as main and whilst scallops were lovely ( mash could have more flavour please ) I wouldn't consider this as main meal and wished I went for trout hubby had. Flavours were played very safely, perhaps I was expecting too much, perhaps the non existence of service and atmosphere is why it didn't feel special.

We had the seafood platter which was massive with good quality seafood! Did not taste much, and came with a standard salad and (what tasted like normal boiled) potatoes. Good quality, but very bland for a price of almost 40 £ a person.

We were lucky to get a table here as we hadn’t booked anywhere for dinner. There is a choice of a 2 or 3 course menu. We went for the two courses and had the soup and mussels to start and then the beef and sea trout for mains. All really good, the meat was very tender. The staff were very busy but we had good service.

We went there on a Friday night and the restaurant was almost packed. But the staff was so nice to find us a place. The food is very good with good size portions. Staff is very attentive as well. Overall a great dining experience. Will definitely visit again next time in Skye.

I don't remember seeing an a la carte menu; we only had the choice of a 2 course or 3 course meal, or seafood platters. That made it difficult, as we had young children and were worried about picky eaters; if we would over or under order food; and ordering more food meant a significant increase in the overall price. In the end, we ordered two of the 3 course meals, and that was sufficient between our family of four. I shared with my 7-year-old. The leek and onion tarte tasted bland, and we felt it improved with the addition of salt. We did enjoy the braised beef cheeks and sticky toffee pudding. Between my husband and 10-year-old, they did NOT finish the haddock or cheese plate for desserts; I don't think they were impressed. So I would say the food is hit or miss, and that will affect your opinion. Service may be considered slow, but I think that is a consequence of a busy restaurant in a popular tourist area. I will say during our meal, there was an unruly customer who verbally abused the staff and caused a scene. I think the staff did a good job handling the situation. They did not escalate his agitated state and remained calm. I'm sorry the staff had to go through it.

We had dinner the first night we arrived in town, and we liked it so much that we went again the next day. All the food was delicious, the mussels are a must, for dipping bread! Afterwards, each one ordered their main dish, cheeks, trout or scallops and all the dishes were outstanding, congratulations to the chef! We recommend 100%

A tad disappointed. Booked upon previous reviews for a nice meal out. Very disappointed with the quality of food and price. We had the bang bang chicken to start, it was nice but it was cold which was not stated on the menu. The starter felt like it had been pulled out the fridge. We then ordered two fish and chips, which was very disappointing. The fish tasted frozen, with no flakiness and it was rather greasy. The chips were soggy and came out cold. We left asking the question, how can you mess up fish and chips on Skye. Staff were lovely, service was not the issue. Don't waste your time, recommend the restaurant two doors down for a better and more reasonably priced meal.

Unfortunately one of the worst experiences I’ve had in Scotland so far. The beef cheeks hardly had any meat but consisted mostly of grease. As I told the waitress, she responded that she was going to let the kitchen know without apologizing. Then, another waitress asked if we wanted the bill although we hadn’t finished the drinks yet and there was still plenty of room left. I can’t recommend it, unfortunately.

I watched the restaurant being renovated and was excited to try this. The food is ok and the fish well cooked but would have been fine with some lemon and nog so many additions. Menu confusing: two and three course prices but hard to workout what individual dishes cost if you don’t want those options. A sign at the bar saying prices had gone up seemed irrelevant in a restaurant that was almost entirely tourists. Front of house team - please smile.

Had the bang bang chicken for starter followed by the Beef cheek for the main and then finally the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Paired the beef with the Pinot noir. Highly recommend all. Staff were very nice and no problem getting us a seat despite no reservation. If you're in Portree and in need of a good meal, check here out, reasonably priced and worth it.

Cozy little restaurant in Portree, right by the bus station. The prices are fair and the food on offer is delicious. We were also served very nicely, so it was a completely successful visit. The grilled salmon is highly recommended!

於11月中旬造訪,算是淡季,不需要預約即可,不過用完餐後散步經過看到店內還是近滿座,如果不想等待建議淡季17:30左右就可以造訪。食物好吃,服務態度親切,尤其海鮮盤一定必點,當天是淡菜、鮭魚、海螯蝦,搭配沙拉跟小馬鈴薯,淡菜經過烹調加熱後不會過鹹,還保有食物新鮮,鮭魚幾乎無刺,裡面非常鮮嫩,魚皮也恰到好處,海螯蝦也是新鮮好撥,蝦膏充滿整個蝦頭,兩人份的海鮮盤真的物超所值,也是非常值得特地造訪的餐廳。

We had a great experience there. We’re Americans, which was easy to tell, and staff treated us very well regardless. Being from Louisiana, my definition of fish and chips is very different than what I got in the UK. Prior to our visit to Cuchullin, I honestly thought I didn’t like fish and chips. This was a gamechanger for me. Their fish and chips was excellent. The batter was very light, not overly thick, and not greasy at all. The fish was super fresh, and the tartar sauce on the side was the best I’ve ever had. The chips/fries were thinner than the chunky chips I had other places and more closely resembled what we call “home fries” in Louisiana. If we are ever fortunate enough to come back to Portree, we’ll be coming back to Cuchullin. My favorite meal of our trip.

Ristorante gestito da personale molto giovane e spigliato, con un menù abbastanza diverso dal solito. Abbiamo preso un risotto con capesante e una bistecca di manzo, entrambi molto buoni e ci mancherebbe visto il prezzo di 25 sterline l'uno... Con una birra e un sidro si arriva a 60 abbondanti, ma la simpatia e le piacevoli chiacchierate coi ragazzi al banco lasciano un buon ricordo complessivo.

We had a very lovely dinning experience at this restaurant. We tried the salmon with the noodles, the burger and the scallop risotto. For me the scallops were the best dish. Really worth the price as the portion was very generous and it was perfectly cooked. We also got the soup of the day, which was with apple and parsley. Very interesting tasting. I added a big of black pepper to balance a bit the sweetness of the apple. In general this place is ideal for big companies as most of the places in this area do not take reservations for 5+ people. The do work on a first come first serve basis and they are quite busy but we didn’t wait more than 15-20 min in the queue. Worth eating there for sure.

We were slightly nervous that they don't take reservations but got there at 1230 for lunch and got table without too much difficulty. But the place quickly filled up. My wife had the mussels, which were excellent; I had the venison burger, full of flavour, one of the best I've had; but (as one other critic says here) the skin-on chips are not great and shouldn't be allowed in any kitchen. Extremely popular with Chinese tourists, it seems, all of whom received the same efficient and effective service the waiting staff gave us (so I'm surprised by the suggestion of discrimination in one of the reviews here). All in all a very pleasant dining experience which I would recommend.

This restaurant is an exceptionally excellent dining establishment. We've frequented it on numerous occasions over the years, including two visits in July 2023 during our stay in city. The seafood is truly exceptional, possibly the finest around. The service and atmosphere are equally delightful: Danny and Fabio provide top-notch care, although the entire staff is friendly and service-oriented. Our dinners there have always been outstanding, with our most recent choices being halibut and blackened swordfish. Everything is consistently superb! The restaurant also boasts an impressive wine selection. We enthusiastically endorse this restaurant.

Had to wait about an hour to get in on a Saturday night. The fish and chips I can definitely recommend, while the Scottish cheese platter is definite no-go - it's just 3 pieces of cheese and some extra fruits for 12 pounds, hardly seemed worth it. Service was not great, the servers were struggling to keep up with the pace as the evening was quite busy, asked for extra plates and had to ask twice, hard to catch their glance if you need something. Regarding the wait - although there were 4+ tables free people were being told to wait for 15-20 minutes, really not sure why. Not only that, but people were either not let into the corridor into the restaurant or were let in, but the door wasn't closed and a breeze kept being let in.

Locale piccolo, non accetta prenotazioni ma la fila scorre velocemente, in 30 minuti ci hanno fatto sedere. Personale gentile e molto simpatico. Pietanze tutte buone. Lo consiglio assolutamente One of the best restaurants in Portree. In my opinion the best salmon tasted during the trip. Small place, does not accept reservations but the queue moves quickly, in 30 minutes we were seated. Friendly and very pleasant staff. All good dishes. I absolutely recommend it

It is a nice restaurant, atmosphere and service is good. Food was half half, scallops were praised by my father and seemed to be very well cooked, the special of the day the sterloin steak was "okay". The soup of the day that I ate was amazing and the bread was also very good. The chips had no crispness at all. I had the Burg with Deer meat. It unfortunately partly burned, so I had to cut parts off. The not burned part was quite okay, was good, like a normal burger. It was missing a bit of sauce though. All in all it was nice, but the food did disappoint a bit so it only gets 3 Stars. I wouldn't necessarily come here again

Lined up with everyone else and told where to sit by being pointed in the right direction. Ordered the fish and chips which were soggy, with oil dripping from fish. Venison burger was quite tasty but hard to tell because the bun was burnt, and once again, chips were soggy. Felt very rushed and that the staff were very much under pressure with everyone coming in at once. For a restaurant that specialises in seafood we were very disappointed. There are much better options in Portree!

Went to this restaurant for a fish dinner yesterday evening. Line up and cannot call in and reserve a table. Staff courteous and extremely nice. Being a fish restaurant there was a lot of fish smell. Food was good salmon on a bed of noodles was nice with a side of salad. Must go to place.

Really good food and very nice staff. We got lucky with this place. We arrived in town at around 7:30pm and checked into our B&B so we didn't get to go grab something to eat until around 8pm. Every other restaurant was booked and wouldn't even consider seating us. When we got to this place there were two guys there waiting for a table and they said that there was no guarantee they would even get a table but the staff said they could wait and see. They offered to share a table with us if one became available but the waiter that sat both of us said that there were two tables available. Honestly, we really appreciated it because we were starving after our long trip. We each got the scallops and they were delicious. Just overall great experience. Thanks again

With an 8 people table available, we waited like an hour to go inside. We were 8 persons. We asked about the available table, and said they were understaffed. They took in only 4 persons and let the other 4 waiting outside. Beside this, we told them there were other people outside waiting in line, so their answer was: Let them go somewhere else. We got up and left the place.

Given that upper Scotland is really only humanly habitable for a few weeks a year in the summer, during the peak season in August a real-life Hunger Games plays out in Portree, where hordes of international tourists descend on the understaffed undersupply of dinner spots in this otherwise picturesque but sleepy fishing village, and duel to the death with their sharpened selfie-sticks over who gets the last table for 4. And so we found ourselves, ravenous and heavy-legged after a hard days' hiking, with sunken morale after ringing-around the fully-booked restaurants of greater Portree and receiving more rejections than Nigel Farage at a student bar. However, we were informed by a friendly voice down the line at Cuchullin that they only took walk-ins, and we therefore deduced that, if we were patient had a no-surrender attitude, we would eventually be fed. After waiting an hour or so in the evening dusk, doing some strange Celtic jig to shake off the swarms of blood-thirsty midges, we were immediately struck by the sunny enthusiasm of the waitress as she called us in for a table of 5. The waiter and waitress were more than happy to indulge us in a good old-fashioned chat and, as we exchanged life stories like Pokemon cards, they informed us that, as the restaurant was under-staffed, two local 14 year-olds were helping out in the kitchen. We immediately demanded to meet these brave child labourers and our demands were met, with the valorous, aproned teenagers paraded before us, receiving a hearty cheer, a handshake each, and the declaration that they were the hardest-working teenagers in the Western World. For a starter, we shared a seafood platter (essentially a giant plate of fresh mussels that teetered on food challenge-worthy), and for mains we had delicious, flavoursome bowls seafood chowder. For dessert, we had scrumptious plates of sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake. They even gave us some freshly-baked bread for the chowder upon our request, at no extra charge. The wine and conversation flowed like the cascading Fairy Ponds and, after we launched into a spontaneous rendition of 'Give Me A Home Amongst the Gumtrees' by John Williamson and 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport' by the late Rolf Harris (a rather edgy choice), the staff gave us a rapturous round of applause and we to them, and so ended a most convivial affair as we stumbled out into the chilly Portree air of night.

We ordered mussels and the venison burger. Both weren’t tasty. The mussels were fresh but they already had a weird smell when they arrived and the sauce was off. We couldn’t eat them. My partner wasn’t happy with his burger either.

food is normal but the waitress is impolit. They charge me for the water and don’t tell me about it. When I see the bills I just asked why nobody tells me the water is free, a waitress say with impolite expression: we also never tell the customer the wine is free. Excuse me? ?? Are they same thing? I don’t agree they should say like that when customers feel confused about the bills. Never come again

Must try the seafood platter. I would say the fish and chip is average. The seafood platter is nicely done and very fresh. Highly recommended. The place does not offer reservations, so please queue before opening hours. It has high chair , however limited toddler menu. We love the Scottish music and ambience. Yummy

Delicious and fresh seafood, perfect for seafood lovers. The mussels were a bit sandy at times, but overall a great experience. Their scallops were tender, my company especially loved the surf and turf special with scallops! The risotto was also exceptional. The daily soup however, did not taste strongly of cauliflower, which was a bit disappointing.

Fresh seafood and elegant dishes in the center of Portree. Prices were relatively high for the quantity and quality of food. I would highly recommend the Salmon dish, it was delicious (although I would have preferred more on the plate). Overall, a good eatery in Portree for a nice luxurious night out.

The fish for fish and chips was fresh but it was not cooked as well as the good restaurants in England. The seafood platter is the signature dish and is the best food in the restaurant, as the seafood was very fresh. The burger's bread was slightly over toasted. A nice place to sit after a long day of touring. The service staff could use a bit of hospitality training and perhaps a more organized system for queueing would help guests feel more welcomed. The seafood is recommended. But please, Cuchullin, take the beards off of your mussels!! It’s just being lazy.

Eines der wenigen Restaurants, das ohne Reservierung Gäste aufnahm. Wir hatten Glück und die kleine Schlange vor dem Restaurant löste sich schnell auf. Das Restaurant an sich war dann wirklich super. Die Speisen frisch und lecker. Ein wirklich gutes vegetarisches Gericht gab es auf Nachfrage. Dies könnte ruhig direkt auf der Karte platziert werden. Wie man es sich wünscht: Frische Fischgerichte, kühles Bier, einheimischer Gin (Misty Isle - unbedingt probieren!) und aufmerksamer Service. Frühes Kommen (ab 5:30 pm) sichert euch einen Tisch. Food was good but not amazing. Service was excellent. Price reflects the difficulties of running a good quality restaurant in a rural environment. On a side note my wife left her phone behind.
