The food was good, but we also waited outside in the rain for 40 minutes to get in so we would have had anything at that point. Appart from one waiter the staff was not very friendly. They charged my friend twice because they have a known issue with their card machine, and said the double charge would fall off, but it didn’t. By that time we had left Scotland already, we called but they were EXTREMELY rude and didn’t want to help. So she never received a refund since the bank needed their approval first to reverse the charge. Not worth it, and would not recommend or go again.

We ate here on our trip to Portree. Nothing but amazing food! Probably the best meal of the entire trip.

Good dinner bad bad customer experience. They don’t accept reservation which is ok, but you have to wait outside in the cold and in the rain and even tough they have free table inside they don’t let you in just because they are too busy. Ended up waiting 30 minutes more with plenty of tables available.

Don't come! The seafood is not fresh, and the muss is smelly and disgusting to eat. The beef is the same as the 3 pound frozen instant food I bought casually in the supermarket. It doesn't make me feel bright, and the taste is very light and disgusting...

It’s my first time eating the terrible food in my life. Don’t even try to expect any delicious food except the view from the restaurant and the parking. Go find a store and buy some fast food!

The best scallops in the world! Fresh, delicate, they melt in your mouth. And the service! From the moment you enter, polite and very friendly. We highly recommend it!

The food is really mouthwatering. We had ordered one seafood platter for one person and one haddock fish and chips which are just mind-blowing. The show's topper is the sticky toffee pudding ( recommended by Janet), which is cherry on the top in the whole meal. The service is very welcoming by Peter, Janet and Lucy. Thank you all of you. Lovely restaurant with a great ambiance and truly kind staff. I tried the fish and chips for the first time here and it was delicious. The mussels and the desserts were excellent too.

Habiendo sido rechazado de otro restaurante ya que no teníamos una reserva para un 5 : 30 pm sentado y encontrando otro cerrado para la temporada, fue un alivio agradable para terminar aquí! No se requieren reservas, así que solo tienes que llegar y hacer cola tan pronto como puedas. Menú fijo sin embargo la comida estaba exquisitamente cocinada y tan sabrosa. Creo que las vieiras fueron probablemente las mejores que he tenido - perfectamente cocinado. Incluso el café era bueno. Recomendado a fondo y a un precio razonable también.

In October 28th, 2024, my Rabbies tour guide, Ryan B, recommended this restaurant. I’m glad he did because this was where I had the best meal in the UK, Scotland, and best seafood ever! My partner and I shared the seafood platter for two and the portions were great. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The mussels were plentiful and delicious. The potatoes and salad were great too! The star of the show for me was the salmon. It was cooked perfectly and the skin was nice and crispy! In terms of service, our server was attentive and kind. There was another gentleman with glasses who was also very friendly! He was correct to say the food was amazing. Overall, I highly recommend this place. I would love to visit again if I ever find myself back in Portree. 😋

Very good dinner overall. The trout was done well. I really liked the scallops. I was also pleasantly surprised by the cheese course. All Scottish cheeses. I didn't realise they were so good. Really did a great job showing off what Scotland has to offer.

Loved this place! No reservations so walk-ins only so get there early. Set menu prices but everything we had was expertly cooked and really tasty. Great service. Thoroughly recommended.

A good option for dinner in Portree, the only thing is that they do not accept reservations. You have to wait in line on the street, their star dish is the “seafood” tray.

Yes, this is a bit pricey, but portions and quality are reasonable for what you pay. The mussels were fresh, tender, and flavorful; we each got a heaping plateful for our starters. The scallops were easily the best I've ever had. They literally melted in my mouth and were cooked perfectly in a rich and savory dish. Every bite was an experience! I didn't know scallops could be this good! Only removed a star because they took a long time to get our order and our check. The staff seemed tired and understaffed. We were glad not to have to queue, though, and overall were glad we got to try it here.

Very nice seafood! There is no online or phone table reservation so you will have to queue outside, you should be able to get a table before 1800. There is a car park nearby but if it is full, there is also a long stay carpark 5 mins walk away.

This is a store where people are always queuing up. The store operates on a first-come, first-served basis and does not accept phone reservations in advance (it opens at 17:30). But usually you will be seated after waiting in line for 30 minutes. It is recommended to check out the restaurants you want to order first so that you can order as soon as you are seated. If you come with two people, you can order a Seafood platter for one person, and then order a main meal. Portions are very large and sufficient. If you are coming with three or four people, consider ordering the seafood platter for two plus some main course (salmon or trout recommended). For drinks, you can try beer, which tastes good. If you add some bread, you can use it to dip the mussel soup. The two go really well together. Overall, the waiters' service is quite good and friendly. Credit card payments are accepted here, so you don't have to worry too much.

Mi novia y yo pasamos por aquí, ya que no se puede visitar Skye y no probar los mariscos locales. Debido a las malas experiencias en otros lugares, fui ligeramente cauteloso. No necesito preocuparme. Tenía los mejillones para empezar, y las vieiras para mi principal. Los mejillones se cocinaron al vapor en una salsa de vino blanco, y fueron simplemente los mejores que he probado (también son enormes - obviamente los mejillones locales están haciendo bien! ). Las vieiras iban a morir por - bellamente cocinadas, se derritieron en la boca. Saboreaba cada bocado. A pesar de que tenían escasez de personal, el servicio estaba inmaculado. Todo el mundo con el que hablamos era amable, bien informado y eficiente. No se puede pedir más. Nuestros primos coloniales pueden encontrar el menú algo limitado, pero cuando sirves a la perfección en un plato, ¿cuántas opciones necesitas? Algunos pueden encontrar inconveniente que Cuchullin no acepte reservas. Personalmente, creo que vale la pena hacer cola. Al principio de esta reseña dije que no soy fan de los mariscos. The food is okay. There are people queued outside so it’s easy to just walk there and queue with people when you don’t know what to eat. But they are just okay. Very nice staff. Food is okay.

That was understandable, considering the restaurant does not take reservations. The service was great, the food was even better and this was some of the best seafood we had during our trip.

We went here towards the end of our week trip through Scotland and I can overstate how much I enjoyed it. The food was amazing and the restaurant was a very cute place. Also for those who didn’t realize how important reservations are in Portree this place wasn’t taking any as far as when we were there. The only thing I could say about it is that the food was a little slow to get out to use but I don’t care too much about it because the food far outweighed that. I’m highly disappointed we found this out last day in Skye because I would have gone back as much as I could.

Highly recommended. Very delicious, local food and good atmosphere. They don't reserve, you have to queue but it's worth it. They have a two and three course menu, at a reasonable price for the area. I especially recommend the sea trout, spectacular. And for dessert try the cheeses

Good food, friendly staff. Prices a bit high, but I repeat the food is definitely good (dessert especially). The wait to sit down was long, but this is justified by the fact that--apparently--they are the only restaurant in town that does not require reservations (and it saved us, because the others were all full and no longer accepting anyone).

The seafood is wonderfully fresh overall. The fish n chips in particular is really tasty!

Not sure about food yet, but our short wait turned into a soaking experience. We see empty tables but the 4 young staff are just scrambling and leaving guests standing in the rain. Perhaps invest into a tent or an awning? Particularly when menu is at this price point? Just a suggestion.

Good food. Very delicious pasta ragù and good starters. Maybe a little expensive. We also ordered swordfish which was good and well cooked.

Strong awful fishy scent in the restaurant which made it very difficult to stay long enough to order. Dinner is a two (£32) or three ~£40) course menu for very high prices compared to other establishments. They did seat us quickly which was nice, but the cost and the stench deterred us.

Food was lovely, it was a shame about the young lad serving us though, he could do with cheering up and having a smile on his face.

I have been to here many times the seafood are good，especially the fish，the waiter is a good talker and make you feel welcomed，while the waitress are always inpatient even rude as a group，no one except……“you are not welcome” is written on thier sick face

The mussels had a strange odor and didn't taste fresh. When we informed the waiter, they responded defensively. Additionally, my friend experienced diarrhea after our meal.

The seafood platter is excellent! The other dishes were well presented and tasty. The service is very good but a little more helpfulness and good humor wouldn't hurt. Please note, you cannot order à la carte dishes, it is either a 2 or 3 course menu or a seafood platter for one or two people (mussels, scallops and salmon steak). ). The desserts are excellent.

Not necessarily a friendly welcome, but the waitress who took care of us was nice. Food wise, it's not bad. This allows you to eat a balanced diet, but it is a bit expensive for the quality.

The “Seafood platter” is of exceptional quality, I didn’t remember eating scallops, mussels, trout of this taste quality! The service is very friendly and very efficient...it's worth the wait to get a table!!! Well done

Excellent service & best fish and chips I’ve had in a while. Waiter picked up our need for quicker service without even asking, food delivered quickly & deliciously. My friends had mussels and smoked salmon and both seemed to enjoy.

What kind of animal are you to order out a child, his mother and grandparents in the windy storm saying that the rule is to queue outside untill a table is freed up. Jokes, you are. Hope you get treated the same way wherever you go.

seafood was really fresh and tasty. recommend to get the seafood platter that comes with salmon, mussels and scallops. the tomato pasta was a total letdown as it was soggy and sour, not enough salt. service was alright, staff were pretty friendly and the food was served fairly quick.

Very friendly restaurant in Portree offering 2 courses or 3 courses a la carte. The waiters and waitresses are pleasant, all in a friendly setting.

Young inexperienced waiting staff. Ordered a bottle of Chablis and the waitress brought an opened bottle of champagne. The ‘manager’ then sided with the erroneous employee rather than the wronged customer and threatened to throw us out of the restaurant because we denied we had ordered champagne. Unfortunate experience to an otherwise enjoyable weekend. Avoid stress and eat elsewhere. Not recommended

Good restaurant located right in the center of Portree, the pasta obviously always has nothing to do with our pasta (I'm Italian obviously) but I must say that the fish and chips were very good prices a little high compared to average service a little slow but very friendly.

We have waited 2 hours to eat. Once they brought us the food, the mussels were in poor condition and the service was terrible... NOTHING RECOMMENDED

Amazing food, the best scallops I have ever had. The only thing is that you had to have 2 courses, which is not ideal for me, because I am not a big eater, so my second course was a waste of money. It was a bit expensive.

Waited about 15 minutes to get inside on a Friday evening which wasn't bad at all. Good food, service a little slow at times and only a small set menu of 2 or 3 courses for a fixed price, my friend only wanted a main course but they could not do this. Food was good and would definitely eat there again.

There were another 10 people standing in line with me in front of the restaurant, waiting to be assigned a table. The snake could be seen from inside through the large windows. When 3 Asian tourists walked past those waiting into the restaurant, they were immediately given a table. Bad service!!!! Not nice.

We couldn’t find a place anywhere on Skye for a few hours, 3 days in a row. A very kind gentlemen in Rosedale hotel told us you need to book in a few months before but this restaurant was a walk in!!👌He recommended it and it was a hit! Truly hidden gem! Amazing table service, the stuff was so kind and helpful 🩷 I must admit it was the first restaurant no one discriminated me for my service dog 🐕‍🦺 . So many places around where the first thing I’ve heard was “no dogs allowed!” before they even seen my dog’s jacket “service dog”. This one was finally different, I felt like a regular human being again! 😊 and the food was delicious - 100% recommended! We’ve took 3 meals course each of us, starter, main and the dessert. I will definitely come back with my family when we will visit Skye Island again!💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Totally overrated! Okay food with ridiculous prices. The worst part was the waiting time and the service!

The food is definitely overpriced, and we waited for almost an hour for our food to be served. What's worse was the attitude of the waitresses. One of them spilled a lot of sauce when taking away our plates without an apology. I truly believe the owner thinks these tourists will only come once, so they tried their best to exploit us.

This time I was dining alone. It was raining outside and I had to wait in line for about 40 minutes. I ordered mussel appetizers and pan-fried sea trout, which were paired with a bottle of Skye dark beer. The summary is very good, the mussel soup is so delicious! If you care that the price of beer is much different from that sold alone, don’t order to save some money. The guy next door ordered the seafood platter. The portion for one person is still very large, which is amazing, but I guess it must be very delicious if there are many people together. Don’t miss ordering the seafood platter when dining!

Walk in place; went for dinner twice as booking a table in town is too complicated. Fix menu , or sea food platter: a part from this rigid choice scheme and the robotic waitresses team, the food was good and main dishes have been very good. On the second night I was on for two main dishes but even offering to pay for them more money, it has not been possible to order them.

Scallops were cooked to perfection and mussels (starter) were amazing. Salmon was great too. £27.50 for starter and main was excellent value. Totally worth waiting in the queue for an hour in the cold.

Sadly, completely overrated, mediocre restaurant. The food was served lukewarm, and mostly tasteless. Certainly not worth its price. About 10 of the mussels served were completely closed casting doubt on their freshness which is absurd considering that the restaurant is literally located in a port town. Spare yourself the waiting time and look for another place. Do not recommend.

Absolutely delicious. Not on the lower end of pricing opportunities in Portree but if you are okay with that it is just perfect (beef cheeks, mussels and scallops).

Small cozy restaurant, food was very good. Since the restaurant does not accept reservations, there is a queue in front of the restaurant. We only waited about half an hour because we were early.

I really enjoyed my dishes. I had a mussels bowl as a starter and then I ate a delicious seatrout. I truly recommend to eat here, even if you may wait a few minutes to be seated.

We arrived very late in Portree and were able to have dinner thanks to the kindness of the waitresses. You have to wait at the entrance, elaborate cuisine and price adjusted to what they offer.

The excitement of getting to Isle of Skye got me to forget about making reservations for dinner. Thanks to the staff of Cuchullin, we were seated as soon as we walked in. Got our orders in - soup of the day, sea food platter, fish and chips, pan seared scallops, and tomato ravioli (for the one vegetarian person in our party). Loved the food, loved the grouse whisky as well. Tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding for dessert hit the spot. The food hit the spot and I knew I would have a great night sleep. Highly recommended!!

We were staying on Skye for a week and after wondering around Portree, this restaurant did not disappoint. I had the cauliflower and lentil soup which was amazing, like nothing i had tasted before, a lovely thick consistency and so well flavoured, my husband had mussels, followed by beef cheek and sea trout, both great and two sticky toffee puddings. The beef cheek was just melt in the mouth, stunning, and a big portion. The atmosphere was lovely, really attentive staff and a lovely complimentary bread basket. The only fault on this night was that the young waitress cleared my plate and side plate whilst my husband was still eating which is not etiquette, and felt odd then sat there without anything in front of me, its quite off putting whilst he is eating and my side of the table is being cleared so please remind all staff of this. We loved it so much that we returned on the last night of our holiday. The restaurant is first come first served, the were full, we wondered around for about 30 minutes and thankfully got a table on the next try so don't give up hope. I got soup again which was butternut squash, this can sometimes be bland but it was anything but, mussels and we got the same mains but swapped around. My husband got the beef cheek this time and whilst the beef was lovely and melt in the mouth, there was not a lot of mash, much smaller than my portion earlier in the week and the carrots were a bit al dente. I got the sea trout with bubble and squeak, whilst eating it I noted there wasn't any bubble and squeak but just crushed new potatoes, without any bacon, cabbage and a lack of sauce, it was completely different to my husbands from before. Nobody came to check on us during the meal, staff seemed to be rushing about without any order or system for who was looking after who. When we went up to pay, I asked if the the chef was a different one from when we went on Friday, it was. So all the chefs need to be consistent on portion size. I also mentioned that mine didn't come with bubble and squeak and she said 'oh yeah we ran out'. Well as a customer it would be helpful to know this when ordering my meal as I ordered it on the proviso that it came with that, and because nobody checked on us, I had to mention it when paying. I think when there are only 4 mains, it is important to tell guests if anything is missing or unavailable and be upfront. We left feeling a bit underwhelmed this time compared to the first. Overall though, this restaurant is a hidden gem in Portree, there is a reason it is always super busy, its the quality of the food. It is definitely the best restaurant in the town as we tried a few in the week we were there and this one we returned to twice. Don't be put off by the set menu as the food is a lovely quality and tastes fresh. Do not pass this by if you're in the area. I would highly recommend.

Visited with my 13 year old son, as we both liked the look of the menu. Although we were a walk-in, there was a table ready for us within 5 minutes. Staff were busy, but still polite and efficient. We were both glad we had ordered the beautifully fresh, plump and delicious Uist mussels as a starter. He then had the scallops with a side of chips, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the sea trout, which was perfectly cooked and went so well with the bubble and squeak and the creamy sauce. The emphasis is firmly on the food. The venue is clean, pleasant and unpretentious, which was perfect for the two of us. Would thoroughly recommend it

Had a beautiful meal here last weekend. We both chose the slow cooked beef cheek and sticky toffee pudding and it was delicious. Two course meal cost £27.50 which was worth it. Service was good and the staff were friendly. Worth a visit if in Portree. They dont take bookings like a lot of resturants on Skye.

Came here with two teenagers and hubby for dinner. We were lucky enough to get a table as soon after we arrived a queue formed outside ( just why you cannot book a table in Portree and have to stand in freezing cold outside for an hour is beyond my understanding- I will ensure to eat in different town in future for sure) I'm not sure if we sat in blind spot but tables around us got served drink and starter whilst we were ignored even to take drink order.. We didn't get a chance to order pudding either as again nobody came. To pay our bill we had to pay at the bar. Staff was very cold and unwelcoming, apart from a one Polish waitress who was unfortunately not taking orders. It felt bit strange inside. There is NO flexibility when ordering for kids, it is two course only as the waiter said. Food was well presented, well cooked and delivered fast. My daughter got her seafood platter delivered earlier before mains came out, thanks to the Polish waitress. I had mussels and scallops as main and whilst scallops were lovely ( mash could have more flavour please ) I wouldn't consider this as main meal and wished I went for trout hubby had. Flavours were played very safely, perhaps I was expecting too much, perhaps the non existence of service and atmosphere is why it didn't feel special.
