Crustum in Cheshire West and Chester

Excellent food and outstanding coffee served professionally and cheerfully. Our first visit to Crustum today, excellent choice on the menu; delicious toasted sandwich complemented by dressed rocket.

Crustum have a new menu. Very innovative, the food is first class and so tasty. Coffee is delicious, probably the best in Chester.

We ordered two sandwiches which sounded lovely on the menu but when they arrived they were so disappointing . Small pieces of sourdough with very little filling. Both sandwiches came to nearly £20 so we were expecting a lot more than what we got. I think it’s really unfair to charge £9.00 for a sandwich of such poor quality, if we wanted a small, cheaply made sandwich we could have got one for half the price in Tesco express. I would avoid this place as there are other places in Chester market where you really get a lot for your money.

Lovely brunch. My eggs were cooked perfectly. Especially enjoyed the smoked ketchup. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Extremely expensive and coffee not nice. Almost £18 for 3 small coffees and 2 small slices of cake!!!!! Coffee was not good and tasted metallic. I wondered why there was no queue here but one a mile long for market cafe next door and now I know why.

Fantastic food and coffee. I had a delicious oat milk mocha and the loaded Mexican eggs. Fantastic ingredients. Highly recommended.

Ordered the breakfast bap and couldn’t manage to eat more than 4 nibbles of it. Still feel a bit sick.

Had the breakfast sandwich, with vegan alternative and it was lovely. They unfortunately didn't have any vegan egg alternative so offered a sub, I chose a hash brown. It was a good sandwich and the staff were nice and friendly.

Visited for brunch on a Saturday and have to say the food is a bit special. I had the Fairfax, a brioche bun with scrambled eggs, avacado, sciracha, cheese and caramelised onion, and can honestly say it was one of the best breakfasts I've eaten, especially as a veggie. Husband had a meat version and even he said it was good which doesn't happen often. Service was spot on.

Cannot comment on the food but avoid ordering a drink from there. Previously have been informed that would take 20 minutes to make a chai. Today waited 15 minutes for a drink. Baffling slow service for the amount of staff. When chai latte came was served in a cappuccino cup and was flavourless. Would recommend Market Cafe next to Crustum which provides great food at reasonable prices and done within a reasonable timeframe!

I’ve visited Crustum on a number of occasions and every time it has been excellent, whether it’s beetroot and goats cheese salad, a spiced soup or today a delicious Chicken and Bacon ranch sandwich with a green salad and home made balsamic and strawberry drizzle. If you like freshly made food with high quality ingredients this is definitely the place for you. The team are very welcoming and always happy to guide you if you can’t decide what to order.

Really friendly staff and tasty food. What’s not to like!! Great veggie options, we both had avo toast, I had some vegan bacon too🥰 Extra brownie points because they use the “this isn’t” bacon brand !!!! 😍😍

Friendly staff but filthy teacups! Took it back but told all teacups stained by old tea. However, cup was also dirty from previous use on the outside. Pot washers got the blame but it seemed to me cafe staff should’ve noticed and not served anything at all in a dirty cup. Failing that, they should do something about poor hygiene standards when a customer points it out. My request for a clean cup couldn't be met apparently. I resolved it myself by using one of the immaculate coffee cups from the coffee machine and decanting the tea.

This is a first class place to visit for a light lunch or snack. Fantastic coffee. We really enjoyed our visit today. The menu is varied which now includes meat and fish. Great value and the staff are so helpful. We will certainly return 😊

First class lunch. They now offer a wide range of light meals / snacks. The food is really delicious and good value for freshly made lunches. The staff are really friendly we will certainly visit again.

Friendly, efficient vendors. Interesting and varied menu - beautifully fresh produce and the eggs were perfectly cooked Much of the bread is supplied by the family bakers and is delicious Prices are reasonable - you definitely get value for money Seating generally in the new market can be difficult especially at busy times of the day

Situated in the new market it can be tough to find a seat,prices gone up too, used it in the old market but won’t do so often here, £13 for 2 x 2 toast/jam, a tea and a coffee.

Only had time for a quick cuppa on a very chilly day and Crustum served a really good cup of tea which stayed hot for simply ages. I'll be back to further sample the rest of the menu.

Lunch here was just lovely! Fresh, tasty vegetarian sandwiches made with wonderful sourdough bread and a large cup of tea too. Thank you

A really good twist on a ploughman’s lunch with an excellent, and very filling, broccoli and white Stilton soup. The ploughman’s sandwich was really good with a great taste and texture, I liked the combination of smoky vegan bacon and homemade pickle along with the tomato and cheese. Overall an excellent lunch!

Fascinating menu, friendly service, excellent taste, beautiful decoration, characterful crockery, very satisfied.

My husband and I came across this eatery in Chester's lovely indoor market this year and it is now our favourite place to go. The atmosphere is great and during the pandemic the wonderful food and the service you get has been a huge lift to our lives and helps us to recall what normal life was all about. The menu is different and we have even made it our breakfast place to go too. The care and attention to covid safety is paramount and we feel safe there. Lovely staff too.Jean Marshall

I was struggling to find somewhere to eat. Called in at the market and found this place. Tables near the ‘shop’ and table service. A god send when your alone with a baby. Tasty food. Friendly service. Toilets are the public ones.

Fui aquí justo antes de Navidad para una taza rápida y un pastel mientras visitaba el mercado navideño. Encontrarás Crustum muy fácilmente dentro del "mercado interior". Tiene una buena cantidad de asientos disponibles, aunque imagino que estaría muy ocupado un sábado.A un precio muy razonable y fácilmente obtuve 3 tazas de té de una olla. En cuanto a la comida, hay muchas opciones, (incluso para veganos quisquillosos ... ¡..!!!) Todos a precios decentes, aunque algunos de los pasteles eran, en mi humilde opinión, un poco elevados para lo que tienes. Dicho esto, la calidad era EXCELENTE, así que no me importó pagar el extra. El personal fue muy amigable y servicial. Definitivamente regresaremos.

He estado aquí un par de veces para un almuerzo ligero. Sopas fantásticas y sándwiches realmente buenos. El sándwich de pollo y tocino ranch estaba lleno y suculento y el haloumi con cúrcuma, jengibre, hummus de pimiento rojo y espinacas era igualmente delicioso. El pan es suave y tiene un ligero sabor a centeno, y si tiene sopa y un sándwich, hay mucho pan fresco y sabroso. El servicio es excelente y el personal es extremadamente amable. Popped into the market for brunch, plenty of places to eat but wanted to try Crustum. We had avocado on toast & the special which came with bacon & poached eggs too. Lovely flavoursome food. Really nice cafe & staff were friendly.

Menú variado, recién hecho y servicio de mesa para arrancar. Precios competitivos más baratos que las cadenas habituales y personal amable.

Great little place for food, such friendly staff and the polish sausage on a Friday evening it’s out standing! A hidden gem in the indoor market that everyone should try!

Encontré Crustum mientras paseaba por Chester Market Hall y decidí parar a almorzar. El personal es educado, amable y atento, la comida era absolutamente deliciosa. Opté por un sándwich de pavo y pesto con una botella de limonada rosa, mi sándwich era una combinación hecha en el cielo. Puedes comer o llevar, opté por comer posada y disfruté viendo pasar el mundo en el concurrido mercado. Crustum es un panadero artesiano con una cocina abierta y tiene un buen ambiente, definitivamente vale la pena visitarlo.

Somos visitantes habituales del Market Hall, y Crustum es el más destacado entre muchas delicias.Ambos tuvimos el Kedgeree para nuestra comida y fue excepcional. Me atrevería a decir que fue el mejor plato principal que he tenido en Chester este año.Un par de tartas caseras, con cafés artesanales locales para el postre, para una comida tan memorable.El entorno peculiar pero acogedor hace que la experiencia sea tan agradable, al igual que el excelente servicio, pero es la comida por la que volverá.

We had a very tasty lunch today. Great sourdough. Good mug of tea. Buns looked good but resisted this time! Chester market has a buzz these days.

It’s years since I’ve visited Chester Market, but I’d started hearing good reports about the food available so decided to try it myself.

I'd like to support more local businesses but not when it costs £2.80 for a small takeaway coffee.

Gorgeous restaurant quality food within Chester market. We will definitely be coming here again. Fresh bread for sale too. Staff great!

I ate here with a friend on Wednesday, while looking at the menu we were advised to take a seat once we had decide, someone came and took our order, we both had avocado on sourdough toast with egg and bacon, everything is cooked fresh but we didn't wait long. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly. I would recommend Crustum as a great place to eat.

Needed somewhere handy to the Cathedral so the market ticked the box. Great service and reasonable in price too. Welsh cakes needed butter mind. Coffee was good. Will be back

This was our 1st port of call after visiting the 'renewed' atmosphere in Chester market, having seen the different eating places in there. We both only had a flat white coffee, really enjoyable. Couldn't resist buying the sourdough bread to take home. Vicky told us it was from her parents bakery and told us that the ingredients were the best they use. By the way, we almost ate it all in one go. Delish!!!!! Must make the effort to have lunch/snack the next time.

Went into the Chester Market on a busy Saturday in October. Lots of people about made the place really feel like it was buzzing!

I called to crustum to get a takeaway sandwich on my lunch break. I opted for a chicken and avocado sandwich with salad. It came on proper sourdough bread with a lovely dressing. Felt like a proper treat and cost the same if not less than any other sandwich places in Chester but the quality was head and shoulders above the mass produced pre packaged bread the other sandwich bars use. A must for anyone who values quality.

Vegan cake in Chester ! Thank you. Trolled all the usual cafés but finally found a place with a fresh brew and choice of vegan food. Great will be back next time in Chester

You don't realy expect to find somewhere like this in a indoor market , we just stumbled across it by accident but were pleasantly surprised to see they did vegan cakes , vegan curry and several other options for the non vegans amongst you.

Visited this little gem with a friend, I was initially hesitant about going into the Market where Crustum is situated, but that soon disappeared once I began to wander around and take in the general buzz and vibe of the market. Deciding on Crustum, we were warmly welcomed by Vicky who I understand actually owns/cooks /runs Crustum. I took a delicious flat white, my friend helped herself to some water freely available on the table, whilst we decided what to eat from the menu. I chose the soup of the day, my friend a sandwich. Both meals were absolutely fresh and delicious. My soup was piping hot, a huge portion, and very good. It came with some of the best bread I have ever eaten. I also bought an amazing Sourdough loaf to take home. Can't wait to go back.

What a fabulous place to lunch. Ticks all the ‘street food ‘ boxes. Had the chicken gumbo it was delicious and the artisan bread was a great touch. Dessert was a home made warm scone with jam and cream. Yummy. This is a real gem of a find, you need to visit. The only downside is not ‘ facilities’ they serve wine. You can pick up your artisan bread and various homemade cakes here too. Try it you won’t regret it
