This was my first time in this restaurant at the Royal Opera House. Not to be tried again as the service was disappointing. The first course was slow in coming but still before the opera started. At the 15 minute bell we chased for our main course; don’t worry, it will be here in 2 minutes. At the 10 minute bell the food had not arrived and we had to leave. The main course was in the table for the (25 minute) interval. Desert, which should have been the only course to be served in this interval, arrived just in time for us to pay and leave for the second act.

I love the fancy look on entrance. Pre-ordered my menu. Wasn't disappointed I chose for the Vega options. Anticipated a feast of joy various plates. The Crushroom didn't let me down. I read in the reviews that some people find the food too cold when served. True I didn't burn my lips when I took a bite from my dish or a sip of my soup. But I have to be honest that flavors are at their best when served lukewarm to warm. Serving hot destroys the delicacy of flavors. Waiters and waitresses completed the experience. I definitely recommend it in combination with a show at the Royal Opera house.

I’m not sure what could actually top an evening at the Royal Opera House, watching a breathtaking rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, however if anything could improve a perfect evening that would be a pre theatre dinner at Crush. Not being our first time sampling the offerings of Crush as we’ve dined there several times over the years we’ve always been impressed with the professionalism of the staff. Every detail is taken care of. They often know what I need before I ask for it! Now, our meal. The starters were as always delicious and decadent. The Smoked Trout and Smoked Salmon were superb. The Beef Wellington, the best I’ve ever tasted. Cooked to perfection! All of the offerings were outstanding, a fine complement of the Chefs talent and the precision of her kitchen. Well done. Looking forward to our next visit.

A friend and I booked a table for dinner at the Crush room. We thought we'd go all out for an indulgent but cultured night out, good tickets for the Flying Dutchman and an unrushed dinner in what looked like suitably ornate dining rooms at Covent Garden. We pre ordered our choices on 4th March so when we arrived punctually at 6pm on the 13th we anticipated receiving our food pretty promptly. No such luck. Even though the room was half empty we were left entirely alone for nearly 20 minutes after being shown to our seats. Other diners were getting their food served without any problem. We had pushed the boat out for a £65 starter of Caviar each. I had never had Caviar. How hard is to put some blinis from a packet on a plate and then add less than half a fingernail of Caviar ? We kept asking when we were going to get our food, we got the same dismissive answer each time. Half an hour went by...40 minutes. My friend suggested we leave at this point. We should have. I started to feel very uncomfortable. Why were we bring treated like this?Eventually without apology the first dish arrived. It was not worth waiting for. I know Caviar is a rare luxury and not to expect much of it but hadn't quite expected to see a speck of about 3 eggs. Not sure why we had so many blinis, the Caviar would not have covered half a blini let alone four. When the main course arrived it was equally disappointing. The asparagus in my Risotto, what little of it there was, was barely cooked and tasteless. I know it wasn't the fresh aspagus season but it was one of the few vegetarian dishes I could eat. Not many peas either. Could count them like the Caviar eggs...the rice wasn't creamy as a good risotto should be.I should have complained then but I wanted not to spoil the night. The bosco mousse I desperately hoped would absolve the fiasco but it turned out to be a thin skim of a milky concoction on a flat plate with the slightest depression in which the mousse sat - bland and uninspiring. It was so disappointing. I don't think I have ever felt so ripped off . From indifferent service to appalling food it's one eating experience I won't forget for all the wrong reasons. Thank goodness the opera was wonderful.

We were eagerly anticipating eating in the restaurant prior to the opera.Initial impressions were good lovely restaurant nice atmosphere and very pleasant servers. The starter of Goats chees and beetroot was presented in a very arty way but tastewise I have eaten better. The pastry on the Beef Wellington very soggy we did mention this to the server however we were assured this was how it was served but I have never eaten it like this the best course was dessert but you can't go wrong with cheese can you..We asked for the bill and thats where it became very distasteful the discressionary service charge which really should be pointed out to the customer as its not legally binding and it wasn't and along with a tip its a way of getting more money out of the customer we asked for it to be removed which they did but the atmosphere became very cool and it didn't help that the coffee they served was cold and I asked for another one.By this time I just wanted to leave the whole experiance was ruined it was an expensive meal but really not worth it.We will never eat their again.

We both enjoyed our food here and the staff were very polite. We had to order in advance and so the food arrived very quickly. During each interval our next course or drink was waiting on the table for us. It is clearly well rehearsed and runs like clockwork. I guess the downsides for me were the cost of the food and also each interval was taken up in the Crush Room which didn't allow any time for a comfort break if that was needed. The decor is very fitting with the Royal Opera House - opulent and grand.

Good to reserve a table for the performance and pre order your food. Eat pre and have dessert or coffee during the interval as you have your booked table for the night. Impressive room and menu sounded great. The main courses we had didn't disappoint. Excellent quality lamb and fish all served promptly by by attentive staff. However desserts were at the other end of the scale. The exotic fruit pannacotta was like mango gloopy wall paper paste with some finely diced undiscernible fruit over the top and two coconut shavings. The chocolate tart was to rich to eat even the small slice provided. Looking around there were a lot of desserts just left or half eaten. We would try starter and main in future

The ambience is magnificent, and the service exemplary, whilst the food which has to be ordered in advance was not quite up to the same standard. We duly ordered our meal as required upon booking our table, but were notified shortly before the day that the menu had now been altered, thus we were obliged to change our choices. Upon arrival I was notified that my starters of oysters was no longer available….so had a so called lobster salad, beautifully presented, but hard to find the lobster! Then there was confusion over my choice of the second course. I chose to go without…my husband’s crab starter was not up to standard, but he really enjoyed the fish pie, tiny though it was. We shared and enjoyed a cheeseboard, which was certainly adequate for two people. I wasn’t at all happy, truly disappointed, and to be fair, we didn’t have to pay for the so called lobster salad. However, the performance of La Traviata was superb!

My wife and I attended a wonderful performance of Coppelia at the Royal Opera House last week. We thoght it would make a special evening to eat in the Crush Room and spread our meal over the early part of the performace. What a mistake we made. In the Crush Room you have to order your meals in advance. I ordered a starter of Brown Shrimps with fine beans, tomatoes and olives. This arrived on a stone cold plate with a pile of shrimps that had been 'thrown' on to a piled mush of ingredients with a sauce squirted haphazardly around the plate. As it was so heavily chilled nothing had any taste apart from the squirted sauce. My main course was Roast Duck with cucumber mint and spring onion. Again so cold that the duck was just a hard slab of meat, only this time the cucumbrer, mint and spring onion made a solid mush. For Dessert I had Apple Tart Tatin with Cinnamon Cream. To call this Tart Tatin was an insult to even a third rate Chef. It was a puff pastry case, about the size of a cupcake, filled with what looke like tinned apple - served cold of course. As you can imagine after this I looked forward, in the interval, to a hot cup of coffee with petit fours. The pot of coffee was tepid and the petit fours two minute pieces of what looked like chocolate brownie. The meal for the two of us, with a glass of wine each and a bottle of water was 162.51 including service. For that amount of money we could have eaten pre-theatre dinner at any of the local Michelin starred restaurants. Shame on you ROH we will never eat there again

I book the Crush Room for my mum and I as pre-theatre dinner before we enjoyed the spectacular performance of the Nutcracker The room is stunning with an air of grandeur - you can imagine ladies and gents in their finery dining before their favourite ballet. But alas that is were the experience ends - the canapés were the best part of the meal - the starter was salmon which I expected to be cold. My mum and I both ordered duck and to state we were disappointed would be an understatement- it was cold and the skin on cold duck is not palatable which was accompanied by cold fine beans and orange segments with a strange tasting sauce on the side. The dessert was a slab of chocolate tart with a translucent pistachio cream. We pre-ordered our meals in advance of the event and there was no indication that meal would be served cold - to pay nearly £150 for cold offerings is not acceptable - no matter the surroundings. If I had known I would have booked another restaurant round the corner ie Rules or Clos Maggiore

I have been going to the Royal Opera House for many years. Seldom have I eaten there as the food is very expensive and quality is mediocre to poor. I decided to give them another try-------mistake. On 26 Sept, meal (duck) was actually quite good. On September 29, I just ordered a smoked salmon sandwich from the champagne bar----------dreadful-------bread was literally wet. On 1 October, I again went to the Crush room. Perhaps the worst meal that I have ever been served in my life. Roast beef was full of gristle and fat. Meat had the consistency of very old leather. Worst, the side dishes were inedible.................salad was coarsely chopped iceburg lettice with no dressing. While I love the ROH and they do many things well, food is not one of these

Eating before a show in Covent Garden can be a stressful experience due to the crush of people and the crush of time--worrying if you will get through your meal in time to make the show. So my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to dining at the Royal Opera House and we are very glad we did--it made the entire evening very relaxing and enjoyable. Arrived at the restaurant at 5:30 and very comfortably ate our appetizers and mains while sipping lovely bubbly and wine before curtain time. No hot food is served, but cold was perfect for scallop ceviche, asparagus with truffle vinaigrette, smoked chicken with mango sauce, and smoked salmon and caviar plates. All of the food was very good. At the interval, we adjourned back to our same table where our delicious puddings and tea were awaiting our arrival. We easily finished our puddings and settled the bill before returning to our seats for the second half of the show. The Crush Room is decorated beautifully in a very rich, traditional style and feels intimate with tables nicely spaced so you don't feel crowded and can easily carry a conversation. Service was excellent--accommodating and attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely be doing this again the next time I go to the Opera. Excellent value for money.

The Crush Room Restaurant offers an attractive service just a few steps from some of the best seats in the Royal Opera House, although tables are open to all patrons. You have to choose from the limited but well chosen menu at the time you book. Courses can be staggered across the various intervals in the production. Service is unobtrusive but friendly. The chandeliers are magnificent, but the tables are alarmingly unstable and should be made more secure.

I attended the opera with a group of 5 friends and we ate in the Crush room. It made the evening so special, we were so glad to have booked it. It felt opulent, had a lovely ambiance and was extremely convenient. The food was cold, but it states this clearly on the menu, and was far more realistic than paying the price of the balconies restaurant menu when we only had 10 mins to eat each course. We had a main course at the 1st interval, and dessert at the 2nd, and it was perfect. There were two main cons -1 - the understaffing! I spent the first 10 mins of each interval trying to get the waiters attention, and twice ended up walking to the bar area to ask them to come and serve the table. On both occasions, by the time they took the order and the drinks came, we were left to 'down' a £14-£15 glass of wine in less than 5 mins. So frustrating, especially as you can't take them into the theatre. 5* surroundings, but basically your food was waiting for you on the table ...and that was that.It would been 5/5 if they staffed it properly. Especially as the website promotes it as 'Service ... takes its cue from times past, with butlers on hand to attend to your needs'. Or not! 2. was the unbelievably rude manner of the French female who took my original booking. I actually had to phone to re-book 3 times because each time the reservation didnt seem to be on the system. I won;t detail, but the French lady spoke to me in a manner that I have never, ever been on the receiving end of. Condescending, aggressive and totally unreasonable considering the money we were spending on that evening. I do hope that they 'record their calls for training purposes' and happen to fall upon our call as an example. I've never felt so angry after speaking to someone about something that should have been very simple.Needless to say I would definitely go back. Perhaps best to order drinks in advance of each interval so they can be delivered with the food?

In all the years I have been going to the ROH, I have never eaten in the Crush room, though have eaten in the Paul Hamlyn Hall. This venue has a sense of occasion and even though the advance ordering system was trained by an unforgiving martinet, it is actually quite nice to arrive with everything ready.Food was good - cold beef looked magnificent and smoked salmon was outstanding. Cheese was well kept.Being able to come back to the same table and have dessert and coffee in the interval adds greatly to the event, but the champagne I ordered for the interval was forgotten, though on the bill. That apart, the service was slick. The wine list is short and has some gems, for very reasonable prices, but overall be warned - it is not a cheap meal.

The Royal Opera house has more than one restaurant ranging from traditional to modern. The Crush Room is it's traditional restaurant and what a grand room it is. Completed in 1858, it is a beautiful venue - crystal chandeliers, oil paintings, tall ceilings and gilded splendour, I felt like I was having a meal in a palace. There is also plenty of space between tables and on the evening we went it was quiet and peaceful despite most tables being taken. We enjoyed our food - this has to be pre-ordered, I don't think this is unreasonable since it ensures that everyone will have enough time to eat then take their seats for the performance without feeling rushed. One can split ones' meal between the intervals in performances if one wishes e.g. main meal before performance then dessert, coffee and cheese course in the interval - we liked this option and made the intervals relaxing as you didn't need to queue up to purchase a drink. Pre-ordering also helps those who may arrive (probably after work) with very little time to spare - we noticed that the couple next to us arrived only 35 minutes before curtain up and were still able to enjoy a relaxed meal.Although it didn't bother us we are a little curious as to why this restaurant only serves cold dishes, I dare say it helps from a pre-ordering point of view but if it offered a few hot dishes I think it would be an improvement.Service was fine but the waiter did forget to bring my daughter's glass of wine, when I pointed this out the problem was rapidly rectified.Overall though, we enjoyed our meal in the Crush Room, it suited our needs well - it was my husband's 60th birthday so I wanted it to be in a special place and this fitted the bill nicely.

First time we have eaten here. the room is splendid with some great chandeliers and lovely rather louche paintings. I have the impression that this would be a better place in the winter, though they only serve cold food I think. The advantage it has over the Balconies restaurant in the Paul Hamlyn hall is that you can eat more casually. For example if you want to just have a plate of sandwiches, or a single dish, in one of the intervals, that is possible. That said, we had 3 courses, 2 glasses of champagne and 2 glasses of wine, for GBP120. So it's a fair bit cheaper than Balconies. But if you want to impress - go to the Balconies for finer food, bigger tables, more glamour - and hot dishes!

The food was exactly what we expected, we had a burger and a hippy bowl with chicken added. Both meals were very nice, and as expected for this style of restaurant. Although we expect the food to be good, what I always judge a place by is its customer service and Dan who served us was excellent in every respect. He was welcoming, smiled, served us promptly, checked our order and a little while after we received our meals dropped by our table to check everything was ok, just the perfect amount of service. Although good service is an expectation, you don’t always get it. The young lady who greeted and seated us when we arrived was also very pleasant although we didn’t get her name. We will definitely recommend this place based not just on the food but on the terrific service we received. We will be back.
