Food was good, waiters good, bar manager obnoxious.

Called in for lunch on Tue 26th, as a small family group of 5, to celebrate a 90th birthday of one of the group. Quickly seated, but the server missed the state of the table as I had to request that it was cleaned down again; all the place settings were there, but so was a huge long lump of mud that looked to have been picked out of the hiking boot.....NOT difficult to miss! Studied the menu as various other customers arrived to be seated. Watched a few folk already seated being brought their food. Kept sitting, waiting and watching as we made out meal choices....and that was it...sitting, waiting, watching, nothing else happening! BUT as soon as it was clear that, A. nobody had asked what drinks we'd like while checking the menu, and B. a couple of tables who'd been seated after us had had their food orders taken and drinks brought before we'd had the time of day - the conversation of our group was one of "we're being blanked, we'll go somewhere else".... I then left to check other options on the High Street. Sadly, the 90 year old in the group is not too mobile, so the group waited for my information before following me. About 10 minutes or so after I left, the waitress finally took their order. NOT impressed with the lack of attention to detail re. the mud on the "clean" table, NOR with being totally ignored by waiting staff. As I have a rule about not rewarding such abysmal behaviour with money I grabbed a bacon sandwich and coffee from a café instead. The people who remained in the Crown to have their meal said that no explanation was offered for the delay, nor any apology given = and even though The Crown is our regular place to go for a meal when visiting Biggar the consensus was THAT'S THE LAST TIME WE GO TO THERE...! Anyone considering The Crown for meals would best make sure they have a lot of time to sit & stare at the walls and the other diners, as you'll be waiting a long time before there's anything apart from mud on the table in front of you!

What a find! Food was delicious and plentiful portions. Decent beer selection. Service was fast, food was cooked perfectly. We had crispy chicken strips and blackened pork belly for starters. All the chicken strips were juicy and not dry at all, even the thinnest ones. The pork was melt in the mouth good and plenty of it. My partner had the red snapper and it was lovely and flavoursome. I had haddock and possibly the best chips I’ve ever had. We felt bad as we just couldn’t finish it all but it was delicious. Great attention to detail. Lovely photos of bygone days on the walls and a cosy open fireplace give the bar and restaurant areas a great traditional vibe. Our servers were extremely accommodating and friendly. Smiles all round

We are here for our first weekend away in Scotland and came here based off of numerous reviews in our cabins guest book. It was incredibly busy when we arrived and the team were dealing with a substantial table at the time, but still managed to squeeze us both in with two dogs. Service was fabulous and the team were all very welcoming, even though our puppy was quite yappy! Food was fabulous, we had the fish sandwiches. Portions were huge and very tasty - Thanks for a wonderful meal!

A delicious carvery on a Sunday. Meat and veg all well cooked service great. Sat in the small cosy room at the back with our dogs...great. we were even asked if we wanted a free top up of our meal. We couldn't manage anymore. We will definitely be back again

We arrived mid afternoon new year's without a reservation. The staff front of house found us a table and was extremely polite about it too. Food was tasty and reasonably priced (same as most restaurants now). The staff are friendly, fabulous and quick. The place is so warm and inviting with happy, friendly regulars at the bar. If I find myself in Biggar in future I will stop off here again for a bite to eat.

Food was good. Atmosphere was good. The decor could use updating. Did not enjoy being rushed out by the staff though.

Wow! Blown away by the excellence of this pub/restaurant, absolutely faultless from the second we walked in without reservation . Perfect service, AMAZING food, massive choice of vegetarian meals for myself and soy free for my friend with an allergy ! The owner/managers knowledge of allergens was spot on , he and all the other staff were brilliant , literally cannot think of a single factor that lets this place down! Beautiful real open fires even down to the little complimentary basket of products in the ladies toilet! We only wish we lived close by ! 11/10 ! Perfect!!!

I have eaten in the Crown numerous times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service. However, that all changed today due to a very inconsiderate dog owner sitting at the table next to our party who allowed their dog (Spaniel) to bark intermittently whilst sitting on the upholstered seating being fed from the table. The sharp barking was really annoying, it ruined our lunch with our friends as we tried to have a conversation. I'm a dog owner myself and I've brought my own dogs with me on several occasions to the Crown. The difference is they sit quietly under the table and don't disturb anyone.

Had booked a table for 6 people months ago drank in it all day come 6 o'clock or booking time we were put up the back in the corner when I asked if we could be by the fire was told they were booked but so were we as I said before several months ago everyone's meal was lovely except the beef curry which was tasteless

Please for God's sake, do not eat in the Crown in Biggar, the food is not fit for consumption, and their shot at making something fresh is like trying to cut through rubber. Do yourself a favour a eat somewhere else.

Not from Biggar but would definitely recommend going into the Crown Inn very warm and welcoming to family neibours friends dogs and visitors food is lovely big portions I would opt just for mains as we had starters and it was over filling so we sadly missed the puds and what we could see they looked delicious so it's a highly recommended

Lunch for two. Quickly ordered and served. Our dishes of haggis, neeps and tatties and Balmoral chicken with haggis were delicious. Good sized portions. Worth a visit.

Eaten here before and as last year the food was really well prepared and lots of it, the staff were very friendly and efficient. It cost a bit more than last year but that's the same for everywhere. Will definitely call back next time we are in the area.

Great food, nice traditional pub

My husband, friend and I, along with our little dog had a delicious lunch today. Wonderful food, wonderful place, and wonderful staff.

Not as good as it used to be. The menu has always been too big - why does a Scottish country pub feel the need to serve Duck Yakisoba, Chicken Katsu Curry, Fajitas, and 6 kinds of burger, on top of the steaks and the pies and the haggis and the tapas and the pizza? The result is that nothing is done particularly well, and is often downright mediocre. The Sunday carvery used to be an event, with a selection of starters and sides which you helped yourself to as often as you liked. Now you wait half an age for the staff to bring you parsimonious portions of the main course. On the plus side, the staff are always nice, there's a solid drinks selection, and the building itself is cosy and welcoming. They just need to do a few things well rather than please absolutely everybody food-wise.

Called in on our way home from holiday. We hadn't booked and it was very busy, however a table was found for us (2 people). Efficient, courteous staff. Excellent menu, including several options for vegans (can be limited elsewhere). Starters excellent and also mains - no room for sweet. Worth a visit

Very friendly service, food came out quickly and hot. My sister had the mac and cheese and really enjoyed it. I had the Rabbie Burns burger that adds haggis, neeps & tatties with a sauce. I also enjoyed it, but the burger patty was cooked through and on the dry side. The coleslaw was super creamy! The full menu is diverse - ready for any palates!

We had drinks here and then lunch the following day. It has a very strange atmosphere, on initial viewing it comes over as primarily a food pub, as you have to wait to be seated. However, the food is not spectacular, just ordinary bar food, so we weren't sure what was going on. No female presence on the floor or behind the bar which seemed odd and was slightly intimidating. I would say dog friendly, but not that welcoming. Undecided is our current opinion.

Everything about this pub is exceptional. The staff were brilliant, helpful and friendly. The food was as good as you’ll ever have and the ambience is perfect. We stumbled upon it on our way through but will come back again for sure.

Good beers friendly atmosphere

Visited here while in the area for Volksfling. This is a nice traditional pub with a good selection of drinks, welcoming and attentative staff. We had the small bites/tapas which was ok. This arrived very fast and seemed to be mainly fried/heated, I'd hoped for homemade, fresher meal.

Popped in for a late lunch, and I have to say my partner, her father, and I all thoroughly enjoyed all our food, recommended 👌👍

Really good menu offering an excellent range, very prompt and friendly service too. A decent, almost gastropub, ambience in the restaurant, off a bar area where dogs were welcomed, and there was a very enjoyable thrum of people chatting and eating. The steak pie, although topped, was impressive and excellent, succulent and very substantial, served with proper chips (my choice) or mash. The sizzling chicken fajitas were fantastic, albeit a bit daunting for lunch... super size for dinner though. It was popular and busy when we dropped in for lunch on spec... totally full by the time we left. Might be best to book if you're on a schedule. Highly recommended.

Went in for a couple of beers after doing tinto hill very friendly atmosphere we ended up getting some tapas that was absolutely delicious . Would definitely go again.

Lovely friendly little pub with a great atmosphere. Stayed here a few hours whilst our car was broken down and it was filled with friendly staff, a wonderful variety of locals and a class bartender who even let us stay when closing whilst we waited for a lift. Food was also delicious with nice large serving sizes.

Staff extremely friendly, food amazing. Had the tapas, haggis in whisky peppercorn sauce, camembert (you have to order sour dough bread or similar in addition ) black pudding and goats cheese and the chicken quesadilla, with a side order of dirty fries...wow. food was absolutely lovely, chefs have got this so right and proper comfort food for a winter evening. Well done all round

we had christmas dinner here , it was very special . food and service a very high standard all the staff were very friendly and they made a big fuss of our 🐕 we returned a few days later for the haggis 😋

Just had my first visit there for a meal. I had venison casserole and apple crumble. Both were lovely and I'd definitely be happy to go back there for food. Seems like a good, friendly pub and it was busy on a Thursday evening.
