We were driving from Edinburgh to York and were looking for a place to grab a quick lunch. We stopped in Biggar and ate at the Crown Inn. It was a great stop and a great pub. There were a lot of locals having lunch also. I had the hamburger and my wife had soup and a sandwich. Both were very good. The service was great.

The Barony

02/10/2018: Food good. Excellent handling of various dietary requirements. Staff a bit distant, too busy talking to themselves. Menu small so very limited to personal tastes. Ambiance great but expensive for quality of food. Good but not excellent. Would we go back? Probably not..........
11/10/2018: We dropped in for lunch and although it wasn't too busy there were enough people in to create a nice atmosphere.

The Old Smiddy Strathaven

04/02/2019: We were visiting Strathaven on business not pleasure and it was late in the day before we had a chance to eat. A warm welcome was received by a good natured young waitress who remained unflustered even when I changed my order at the last minute! A very extensive menu was available plus what looked like a wide selection of tasty cakes. We both had the sandwich and soup combo. The broccoli and cheese soup was exceptionally tasty.
27/10/2018: As it was such a lovely day my friend and I decided to visit Strathaven and have some lunch. A local recommended The Old Smiddy which I had been in before many years ago. We both had soup and sandwiches followed by a traybake and coffee. We were served promptly and the food was good. We were impressed by the staff who were friendly, polite and very efficient. All in all a very satisfactory visit and we even found some Christmas gifts in the adjoining gift shop.
