I stayed overnight and had dinner bed and breakfast. I chose it because it was in a pretty country village and was quiet. The people running the place were very friendly and the room was well appointed. Food was OK with excellent breakfast. Good car park. Reasonable price. I’d go there again.

The choice of food was brilliant and catering easily for the whole family. When the food came out the portion sizes were a lot better than most other restaurants. Maybe a drink and he laughed! Maybe not now as I've since learned this is common practice and has never had Langoustines in only king prawns seems like trade descriptions act to me I wonder what else he is palming of as something else, rump as fillet or refilling bottles with cheaper alcohol? so never again people don't waste your time or money the owner doesn't deserve it

I popped in for a quick light lunch. Ordered a pint of Peroni from quite the most unfriendly barman (owner?) I have ever encountered. It came out flat and a very poor taste and at £4.80 per pint it was quite the worst value for money I've ever had. I mentioned the quality and got served with an equally bad pint. The sandwich was just very average. The bread wasn't very fresh. This is my first and last visit here which I hope says it all. The waitress who was friendly asked me what was wrong with the second pint and I told her as I left nearly the entire pint. There was no charge for the sandwich!!! Don't waste your money here!

Had a meal in this establishment quite a while ago which we enjoyed and decided we would go back today for lunch. When we arrived we discovered the hotel had been closed for five days and it certainly felt like the heating had been switched off for five days as it was too cold to take our coats off. I chose the sea bass which was OK but covered in too much tomato sauce and my husband had the trio of lamb chops which again were quite tasty but were served with far too much gravy. The veg were overcooked and the food had the look of a 'school dinner' and the waitress seemed a bit disinterested. We certainly will not return.

We always wondered what this place would be like, now we know, we certainly will not be going back! What a disappointment! The interior had been opened up and refurbished, it looks very nice and had a sense of promise. My starter was chef's pate with plum and apple homemade chutney at £5.25, not cheap but tasted bought in? It did not taste fresh and homemade. It was bland and served with a tiny salad and oatcakes and no butter. I ordered a glass of Shiraz, the first glass was completely off, it tasted terrible just like vinegar, I spoke to a waitress who totally questioned my judgement on the wine! I was really taken aback at her attitude! She behaved in a very awkward manner and obviously needs training to deal with customers. I have probably had too many glasses/bottles of good red wine in my life to want to admit to , I did know what I was talking about, the wine had corked and turned to vinegar. Eventually, after a bit of effort to convince the waitress, I received another glass of Shiraz which tasted lovely. My husband had chicken pakora as his starter and he said it seemed to be pre-bought frozen pakora which had been deep fried, definitely did not taste freshly made. This was another disappointment.Main courses: I had Robertson's homemade lasagne, it was "cheesy mince", if my eyes had been closed I would not have known that I was eating lasagne, it was so greasy. This was £9.75 My husband had traditional steak and Ale pie which he said was just alright and cost £9.95 My pudding was some kind of slice of Raspberry sweet, I don't remember the name, what I do remember was the mean feeling it gave off when it arrived with half a raspberry on it! we left this place feeling so let down we couldn't even be bothered to complain. I am glad we can write reviews to let other people know about experiences like this.

We've been here before a good few times and the very fact that we've been here twice to eat out in the past week means that we really like it...however I'm giving it one less star this time for a very simple reason. For the past 18 months, since our last visit, my husband has been hankering after the Balmoral chicken dish that they used to do and was really looking forward to having it again this visit. Alas to his huge disappointment it was not on the menu this time. As an alternative, he had the Haggis fritters, but there was just no comparison to the Balmoral chicken - they were tasty, but dry in comparison and he just didn't enjoy them half as much. Please please please bring back your Balmoral chicken onto the menu....I don't think he'll ever forgive you if you don't. We did go elsewhere to find it, but he said it wasn't even half as good as the one previously served at the Robertsons arms a while back.

Very disappointed in the new set up . Loved the ambience of the old style restaurant which always felt a bit special and intimate . New bistro type restaurant was noisy , tables too close together and a general feel of a run of the mill pub meal . Standards of food also not as good although passable . Staff did not ask if we required anything and only asked if everything was OK when we had finished . General lack of warmth and amateurish service . Left feeling really disappointed that somewhere we had eaten many times before and loved was no longer special and not worth the journey . Upon our arrival we were met with a rude waitresswho insisted on taking our jackets before we were allowed to our tabledespite me asking to get organised first as I was holding 2 bags & a baby!We had a place setting missing which was a misunderstanding which is fine, these things happen. We weren't even seated when our starters were beingbrought out, didn't even have our drinks yet either, it was not a nicefriendly relaxed atmosphere at all. The waitress then kept leaning overpeople while trying to eat the starters to clear away our pulled crackersshe then proceeded to collect in the sorbet dishes while I was still eatingthen when main courses arrived not all came at once and we had to sit andwait on others after asking waitresses when they would be coming, the samewith desserts, people had to sit & wait on some despite numerous requests for them then our second drinks order had to be chased up 3 times for one of the drinks. By this stage we were eager to leave as we were extremely disappointed. I understand it was busy however good service should never be compromised. I did e-mail the hotel to complain about my experience however the reply I received was also disappointing, it was basically sorry my waitress was so efficient, we were busy & everybody else enjoyed it!

Sadly, things started to slip, and our latest visit will be our last. The starters were lacklustre; the mains were barely adequate and the desert menu was woefully diminshed. I have been to the Robertson Arms on many occasions, albeit not for around four years. I am afraid to say the standard of the food has dropped dramatically. There were 13 of us on this visit ordering a varied spread of the menu. We were told of the Sunday roast which you would've expected to be a proper full plateful of good wholesome home cooked roast, not the case I am afraid. What was produced was two small slices of roast Gammon a few potatoes and some overcooked vegetables. I ordered the Robertson burger which on previous visits was a good home fashioned burger. What was served this time I can only describe as a grey perfectly formed frozen job - for the price being charged I can only say it was very poor. All present did say our food was warm, but served on cold plates and portion sizes were very small for the price charged. I am afraid to say I and all my family and friends have paid our last visit.

And we finished our drinks in the new lounge which is lovely and cosy , all in all , brilliant locally sourced food , good service , reasonably priced bottle of red , and all within stumbling distance from my house !! What more could you want

Before writing this I took a quick glance at the other reviews and generally got the idea that the down side was the customer service received... agreed this is slightly off putting but at the end of the day its clearly a family business and not everyone us cut out for customer service but if you look past that and put your sensitivity aside and focus on the important topic here... the food! I always order the steak pie, not very adventurous I know but it definitely is near to perfection! The traditional pub look and atmosphere definitely adds to the charm and you can't fault the large portions of tasty food and well poured drinks! We were lucky to get a table last Sunday as the other diners had the right idea and booked ahead but to me this speaks volumes to how popular this wee gem is.

When our group of nine called in on a quiet weekday afternoon, we received quite the grumpiest reception, from the manager, that I can recall this century. Food was okay and service was prompt (although he must have saved some time by not bothering to wipe the caked on food from my glass). The whole meal was served up with glowering looks, monosyllabic mutterings and the sense that we'd ruined someones quiet time. Sorry to have put you to so much trouble, next time we'll look elsewhere.

As it was my daughters birthday we decided to go to the Robertson Arms as it's local to where she stays we went up to the bar knowing it would be busy as it's Father's Day my daughter asked for a table for four the owner was damn right rude he glared at her and decided that we could have a table but said you will need to eat quick and there will be no gaps between courses as your table is reserved for seven o'clock this was five o'clock he then took our order as quickly as he could I have never been treated like this before in a restaurant and most definitely won't be back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Went here for Dinner on Mothers day. There was a mothers day offer advertised with 3 courses for adults £15.95 and children £7.50. 3 choices for each course. When we started to order it very quickly became clear that children were not expected to order from that menu although it was advertised as including children. One of my sons had to change his choice three times because what he ordered wasn't available in a child's portion! (I ended up ordering what he wanted so he could have some!) It was fine but the waiter (who I think is the owner) was extremely rude and unaccommodating and made being there with children (on Mothers day) very awkward. In fact at one point he ripped the order off his pad, threw it on the floor and stormed off! Anyway the food was nice but the service was appalling. To have that man front of house is a huge mistake and he clearly doesn't want to be there anyway! We will not be returning which is a shame because I like to support small local businesses and used to recommend it to guests who stay in our holiday let. Not any more I'm afraid - I have no time for people who can't be civil and polite to their customers and advertise misleading offers and I would hate to think he would serve our guests in the same manner!

As we live a short distance from the Robbie arms we are frequent visitors , and yet again we had a great night with another 3 couples ( neighbors ) last night , we have to say that we found the food , drink and service all great as usual ! We had a table of eight in the existing bistro area and it was nice and busy with a good atmosphere , the food was brilliant , roasting hot and served quickly by the very knowledgeable waitress and waiter , the drink flowed well and was reasonably priced , after out meal we sat in the new lounge area to finish our drinks , this is a lovely addition to the establishment , lovely atmosphere with nice comphy leather sofas and chairs and an inviting roaring fire , will definately be back and we are lucky to have a such a quality place right on our doorstep .

Back at Robertson Arms twice recently for a meal. Good food , well cooked. Spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money. Situated at the bottom end of the village, with ample off street car parking.

My fiance and I popped in here on our way home for a meal. There is the general lounge area and the bistro/restaurant. We had our meal in the bistro/restaurant Plenty of tables. Quite a good choice on the menu although some choices were a bit over priced. My fiance had the roast of the day which was pork and I had the macaroni/broccoli bake. Food came quickly and was hot. However macaroni/broccoli bake was disappointing. Food tasted nice enough but macaroni was not home made. My fiance's meal came on a large plate but the meal was sparse to say the least. Nice enough food but would not return in a hurry.

Been over a year since our last visit here. Thought we would try one last time to see if any improvement on the service. Unfortunately there isnt the guy that owns it couldnt give a stuff, and he makes Basil Fawlty look 5 star. He take no time to engage with customers, mumps and moans and is just generally rude. As for the food it has also gone down hill. The food was luke warm and looked as if my steak had been microwaved then thrown on a griddle to mark. It was a terrible looking grey colour throughout. It a shame as this place could be a gem and the said gentlemans wife and son are the complete opposite. Take a tip folks lock him away from the front of house!!!!

We popped into the Bistro bar but we were mad to feel as though we were intruding. The moustached gentleman serving was very brusque and not friendly at all. Although the bar was clean and the food served was ok his attitude was very off putting and we will never return.

First experience of the Robertson Arms was in their Restaurant. The welcome was expertly handled and from there on the evening only got better. The menu has a reasonable amount of choice but enough that a decision was not straightforward. The meal itself was excellent and the food prepared and presented to the highest standard. Have made several repeat visits and have never been dissapointed. How could one complain and why only the 'average rating?Lets turn to the Bistro. Food is of the same quality if a little more basic but none the worse for that. The greeting is not. The man behind the bar had difficulty in putting down his newspaper and his attitude from there on saw little if any improvement. All in all you should make a careful choice at the Robertson. This is an award winning establishment and the Restaurant and the associated staff gets a resounding thumbs up. The Bistro is another matter entirely, avoid unless the barman is on holiday!

After reading the various reviews regarding THE ROBERTSON ARM, I was truly disappointed with the experience I had earlier today!!!I am a wheelchair user, however it states that it was wheelchair accessible ... It was yet it seemed to be A HUGE PROBLEM FOR THE OWNER!!!Having to move chairs to allow me in to a table... He commented about HEALTH & SAFETY!!! WE WERE THE ONLY CUSTOMERS IN THE WHOLE PLACE!!!He should have been glad of the custom in this recession, yet it was almost as if he was mad at us for invading his QUIET TIME!!! Lets just say it was a one and only visit, the food was merely... Fine, nothing special... Just fine, it filled a gap , nothing more.Price was a little over the top considering the food was simply... FINE!!! Sadly, I will never return to this UNWELCOMING, DRAB LUNCH EXPERIENCE!!!

2pm & looking for somewhere to have a bite to eat on my way back from a site meeting, I happened across the Robertson Arms Hotel - advertising food all day. Well prepared to make do with Burger and chips given the time of day, I was delighted to find quite a pleasent menu.I ordered the fillet steak with a Chasseur sauce. I was one of very few in the bistro area and the gentleman at the bar served me couteously and quickly. The meal also arrived within 10 minutes and it was excellent. Fresh crisp chips in a seperate bowl, Chassuer sauce on a gravy boat and a very succulent fillet steak cooked exatly as I had requested - rare.To find somewhere in a small village like Carnwath were at 2 in the afternoon such a feast can be served is rare - and I will definitely remember it for the future. For passing visitors there is a samll car park and as a hotel you can always make it into an evening meal and overnight stay. If rooms are anything like the food I had they will be fit for a king.

Despite being local to The Lee Burn, I'd never been before, until it was recommended to me by a couple of friends, so I thought I'd pop in on the route home from work for a quick pint. The Lee Burn has a pleasantly cosy and relaxing atmosphere and the staff are incredibly welcoming and expertly balance friendliness and professionalism, which other places in the area could take notes from The Lee Burn. Honesty can't fault it for where it is! Even though I'd only popped in, I definitely wanted to stay longer, which is probably the best compliment I can give. I'm usually the first one to want to go home and be in my safe space, but The Lee Burn is just that relaxing! Will be back in the near future :)

Staff are either ignorant or incompetent or both. having dined here before a few times my wife and I stopped in for lunch as walk-ins. I entered and asked for a table for 2, the lady behind the bar made a show of the checking availability on the iPad, many tables were reserved so we guessed that we might be unlucky. "Sorry, we have nothing available", "okay no problem" Her colleague then, right in front of me picked up the bookings iPad and addressed the couple behind me, who also didn't have a reservation. "Oh, you're in luck, we have one table left". As i said a mix of ignorance and incompetence We won't be returning!
