Applebank Inn Restaurant in South Lanarkshire

A really lovely, cosy wee place. A classic exposed stone and wooden beam type spot. All of the staff were super friendly and attentive, happily helping with with anything we needed. The quality of the food was a pleasant surprise. It was excellent quality "pub grub", beautifully cooked. We had the classic scampi and chips. The chips, like most things on the menu, were homemade. Homemade beef and ale pie, then finished off with homemade sticky toffee pudding. We were stuffed. The portions were quite large. I can't recommend this wee spot enough, we were delighted.

Spot on. Lovely people and cat dog child very friendly. Warm indoors too. We are now regulars. Food and wine ten out of ten for quality and value.

We were staying in Larkhall for a week and wanted a Sunday lunch. We arrived on the Saturday, so I volunteered to walk to the pub to check the menu, obviously stopping for a pint. It's a very friendly pub/restaurant, with a great layout and decor. The menu looked great, so we booked for Sunday lunch. The Sunday lunch was really nice,tasty beef, great vegetables, lovely gravy and a nice size Yorkshire pudding. Desserts we're also really tasty. The food was that good that we returned 3 times during our 6 night stay. Friendly engaging staff. It's well worth a visit.

Nice wee pub, not great for anyone with dietary requirements. Staff took a while to serve us but other than that worth a visit.

Excellent service, food and atmosphere. I would highly recommend the steak pie mmm. My whole party (4) enjoyed the experience. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful hidden gem. We stopped randomly on our way home from Scotland, and we definitely weren't disappointed. The pub is beautiful, and the location is lovely, overlooking the river. The food was wonderful, so tasty and reasonable priced. Tracy was friendly and chatted with us, she really made our evening. Highly recommend. Thank you 😊

Heard great things about the applebank. Food was great. Can't complain about that. We were there for my son's 10th birthday party and sat outside. There was a group of people having a few drinks sitting next to us. After about 10 minutes they were all shouting and swearing. I've never heard so much vulgar and disgusting language on a night out never mind a family restaurant. They moved tables closer to us and one woman kept staring, looking for a reaction I'm guessing. Again, let me emphasise how loud and disgusting their behaviour was. It made my gran and son very uncomfortable. Their dog splashed mud all over my gran to which they just laughed and continued shouting and swearing. Couldn't enjoy my meal. I left as soon as I finished with my son as i knew i was ready to say something, didn't even get to do his cake or anything. Never seen women act so disrespectful and trashy in my life. It's not the applebanks fault but one of the workers or manager spoke to them like they knew them, so would have expected her to say something.

Ate here 5 times on our weeks holiday at Riverview cottage in Larkhall 6 of us all eating different starters, mains and deserts food was always delicious and served red hot, the steak pie, carbonarra and Balmoral chicken were extremely good and service was always friendly and welcoming

Nice pub grub, lovely setting, and quick service. Priced just about right.

It was a nice day so we sat outside on the terrace. We had the dog with us as well and they made provisions for the dog as well, offering regular water bowl etc Nothing was a trouble. Our server was very relaxed and there was no rush to order food. All the food that was ordered for four of us, everyone was more than happy with their meal. It was well presented, fairly large portions, and good quality pub grub. If we could have changed anything, it would have been the weather being overcast but in Scotland you have to just accept the weather in Summer.

The nicest part of Larkhall and the most unique pub, really peaceful place to relax and catch up with friends. The workers are very nice and pleasant too, which is a big part in creating the nice atmosphere. Prices reasonable.

We had a family reunion there today ans everything was fan from start to finish , staff couldn't have been nicer the whole time , everyone's food was great and my cousins wee dog was treated like a VIP. It's an absolute must this place xx

Had my birthday meal here and it was beautiful, food, service and drinks were top class, would highly recommend 👌 Nice outdoor area as well for those summer days and nights. Thank you applebank we will definitely be back

Lovely staff who coped fantastically with the unexpected arrival of 10 (Lands End to JoG) cyclists and their varied food and drink orders with humour. All delicious.

We have just got home from a weeks holiday in the Larkhall area, we visited this restaurant 3 times during our stay, twice for food and once for drinks. On every visit the staff were amazing, very friendly and treated us as locals, and the twice we ate there, we as a family of 6, all thought the food was fantastic, very tasty and served very quickly, and all the meals were very large portions. I just wish this was my local.

Neat, warm and welcoming well worth popping in. Views from beer garden over river Avon are stunning.

Food was lovely, friendly service

My daughters took me for lunch here on 26/5 first part of my birthday and although the food we got was good it will be a long time before I’m back. We were told straight away of things that wasn’t available due to a party of 30 due in half hour after us. Excuse was they had pre booked so wasn’t enough of some ingredients. If they’d pre booked then surely they should’ve made sure they ordered in extra. After we ate we ordered cocktails and when the barman brought them over he spilt some over table and some went over my white jeans and he didn’t even apologise! Just brought over blue roll to mop up spillage.

After the last 2 experiences here being poor, I decided to give it one last chance during to it being one of the only places in larkhall with a beer garden on a nice day. A few things on the menu weren’t available, but the server didn’t know this until he’d taken it down and gone to the kitchen. It was a good 5minutes before we were told it wasn’t available to order. I then had to go back to the menu and think again. The soup was mediocre, I could do better myself and I’m not a cook. The pudding was clearly a boil in the bag thing. For the price of desserts they really should be making fresh or biting from someone that makes it homemade. Really disappointed.

great wee hidden gem went at 3 so was quiet walked in and was greeted straight away. nice wee cosy pub food was to die for had haggis fritters which was sat upon creamy mash. then had cajun chicken which was superb. portions were really good. can't wait to go try some other things on the menu 👍

Had fish and chips which was great and the plate was full. It was my niece's 40th birthday lunch, which we had a great day. There was also another birthday that afternoon and the lady came over to say happy birthday which was nice of her.

A real friendly place with great customer focus. We had a surprise 80th for my father in law and they were absolutely brilliant helping set it up. Prices are fantastic.

So a Monday night in February is not necessarily a regular night out, however if you are to go anywhere, then this place would have to be (at least) near the top of your list. The food is homemade, a good amount and very tasty! I could not recommend this place enough and I will certainly be back. …as for dessert…?

Gorgeous pub and lovely location, had the enchiladas and they were large and delicious. Place smelled of bleach (we were there for lunch at 1pm) service was absolutely shocking. Plates just thrown and skidded in front of us, when we asked for water was given to us holding rim if glass. At first we laughed and found it a bit funny but by the end of our visit it was just plain rude.

Disappointed...large black hair in my macaroni cheese...should have brought it to waitresses attention..She Seemed annoyed when I asked if we could have portions of the childrens menu ..as portions sizes looked very generous...And i hate food waste....Wont be back ,had heard so much about the Applebank...

Food was ready on time.... ....but I'm 99% sure that the salt and chilli chicken was actually fish. We also didn't get the fruit shoots we were meant to with the kids meals.

Went in for a meal tonight not realising it was actually closed but the lady who served us couldn't have been any nicer (Tracy) and the food was delicious 😋 as usual. Would definitely recommend 👌

Thirteen of us went for a meal for a family occasion and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and also thought the service was first class.

Food wasn't too great. Starter took a while to come and if you don't want to sit with dogs around then this isn't the place for you. A service charge was added to the bill which seemed very odd. The staff member who was dealing with our bill didn't even say thanks or seem appreciative when given a tip (though we would not have given this had we known there was a 10% service charge).

Absolutely no atmosphere. Kicked out for an early close at 10pm

Visited here a few months ago for the first time in a few years and I like the changes, so much so that I have been back twice since then. The food menu is a lot better than it was on our last visits with the Chinese chicken curry being the star. A decent selection of drinks at a reasonable prices and really nice staff. As always, the view is stunning and the bar/restaurant itself has that olde world feel. Its nice for a quick drink on your own as well.

I was at a family meal, in the back, we had a really good night, the meals all looked great cooked the way everyone wanted. I had fish and chips with some salad and plenty of peas, the plate was absolutely full. It was my sister's 70th birthday and rather than a party she just wanted a meal.

We had a lovely meal which we all enjoyed, no complaints at all. This is my second visit. I will definitely be back. The waitress was very helpful, suggesting the sharing wrap board rather than two singles , I wasn't sure, but she was right to do so, plenty to for two people. Amazing food and great service.

Asked for chilli and cheese nachos, partner who is a chef said looked more like chilli and cheese soup, no taste to the chilli and was swimming in cheese sauce. Waited over 20 min for starter of soup and salt and chilli potato scones, a child could have made them quicker. Service very slow, definitely would not recommend to anyone and most definitely will not be back. 🤑🤑🤑

Food was really good Good sized portions The only wee problem I had was that the mash was reheated + a bit firm for my liking... It s a minor point but I hate stew with a bit of puff pastry in top called steak pie! It isn't steak pie unless the lid is cooked on top of the stew Value for money was good Staff were lovely Only thing was one of our party asked the waitress if her meal could be packed up to go + another waitress lifted it + put dirty cutlery in it so couldn't take it home Shame as it was such a waste

Hadn't been for years and had heard good things recently so popped over on a nice sunny day for my birthday lunch. We parked in the small car park behind and entered onto the outside decking, a really nice setting and only one occupied table. Inside was busy, we approached the bar and were asked if we'd booked. The sole staff member then opened a diary and studied it carefully as if hunting for an opening as I looked at the three empty tables in the bar, thought of the several outside and wondered what lay through the other side. She eventually pointed to a two seater by the wall and said there's one there. I have to add that in all the time we were there and the other tables emptied no one new arrived so not sure what the diary was telling her. We ordered drinks then waited quite a while for the food order to be taken. Again, I wasn't really feeling the love from mein host, for her definition of a welcome I'd refer you to Billy Connolly on Parkinson with Angie Dickinson. The menu had a large variety of pub classics, pizza, pasta and curries. Too much can sometimes be a worry and it proved the case. We both plumped for the sliders board, 3 small burgers with chilli cheese bites and fries. I went for the loaded fries at an extra cost. When the food arrived it did look promising but the proof is in the tasting. The southern fried chicken burger had been southern fried too long leaving a dry, tough piece of meat with a hard crumb, definitely not home made either. The beef burgers were also overdone no pink or soft middle with a nice charred outside, just dry overdone meat. All the buns were toasted just that wee bit too long too. Having paid £3 extra for the loaded fries I was disappointed to see I had half the amount of fries than my wife. It seems they'd swapped half my chips for the topping. I'd have settled for that for the same price. The chilli cheese bites were good although clearly out of a packet and the sweet chilli sauce was excellent and much needed to add some moisture to a very dry plate of food. We paid at the bar and once more not a smile passed the lips of the staff member, she did ask how the food was and when I said ok she said 'filled a hole eh?' Yip, can't argue with that. Needless to say for £40 I didn't think it was value and won't be back. Definitely worth paying a bit more for some fresh food to be cooked by someone who cares about it or less money at a burger van. Really not sure where the rave reviews are coming from.

Excellent lunch today. First time in Applebank since at school nearly 40yrs ago. Food was excellent and so nice sitting outside on terrace.

I visited just over a year ago, and it would've been a 2* at best, but things have dramatically improved the now. I'm not sure if it's a new proprietor or happier staff, and I don't really care..... The Applebank Inn is now special for me and mine, great food, reasonable priced and happy-go-lucky. Great atmosphere now. After my first two visits, I just drove by, but now I gotta pop in for a swiffty an banta. The Applebanks heart is beating hard again. Parking is a B... Hatch .......so cab it ,

We love the Applebank, it's family friendly, dog friendly. Food is fantastic and you have a beautiful view of the river. The staff are very attentive and friendly, we dont live local to here but we are never away it just has a great atmosphere.

It's certainly the nicest pub around the area

Lovely food reasonably priced. My only concern is when you go to the car park at the side of the building It's very dark but also there is low roof edge which you could easily catch your face on and the steps are hard to see need to be very careful The lighting is very poor. A serious accident waiting to happen. Otherwise it's a fantastic location friendly staff and will go back again.

Went with family for lunch. Had nachos between us to start, massive portion, between 4 of us couldn't finish. Then had ying yang chicken. It was DELICIOUS! Great staff, brilliant atmosphere & massive portions of delicious food. Already planning next vist. We didn't see The Black Lady ghost this time!

Dog friendly bar with good food. Largish portions. Walk ins OK during weekday afternoons but you would want to book table for weekends and busy evenings. Goodvalue and good service.

This delightful 1700's Inn is considered the most haunted Inn in Scotland. The food is amazing and the service was sensational. Wish we could have eaten here more than once! Try the Haggis appetizer!

I understand it’s the festive period but that does not excuse the attitude of the head member of staff (she was wearing Christmas glasses). We asked if Prosecco was on the menu to be told “we’re really busy, I’ll come back and take the drink order” Ok but not what we asked. My mum’s order was not passed onto the kitchen (waited ages for it to arrive) so our table was offered a free drink but it was literally just 1 free drink, when we asked why we were being charged for 2 small bottles of Prosecco (as the bill did not include a free drink) we were told “oh I wouldn’t give away 2 bottles of Prosecco for free” and said to my mum “I offered you a free drink and you said no” that was not the case as we were offered a free drink but it was not made clear it was only available to one person at the table as we thought we all were being offered a free drink Ok, don’t say we can have a free drink for the inconvenience if you only mean ONE drink, very misleading. It’s a shame as the food was lovely but this particular person needs to change her attitude if they want customers to return
