I went to a bigger looking at visiting one of the coffee shops for lunch but the lovely exterior of The Crown Inn caught my eye so popped in for a look. The staff were so welcoming and the coal fire was burning nicely making the Crown Inn very inviting. I had macaroni and chips followed by a coffee and it was all lovely. The menu had a great choice from soups and sandwiches to hearty pub meals. The toilets were very clean. I look forward to visiting again!

Whilst staying in the area and visiting family for Christmas week, I decided to pre-book a meal for Christmas Eve. Arrived to find the bar area extremely busy but was quickly escorted to my table in the dining area. Service was very efficient and friendly. Ordered soup, duck and crumble. All three courses were very good and nicely presented. Based on first impressions and if I'm in the area again (I live in the Midlands!), I would definitely revisit.

I was given vouchers for the crown inn, and what a great present it turned out to be. I had the carvery and was taken aback that it was table service for the carvery. How do I know what I want and the girl explained that I could go down and tell them what I wanted or did not want. The guy at the carvery showed me what was available and that it would be brought to my table and if I wanted another serving just to let him know. I had ham and lamb which was fantastic. I did not have to go back as the plate was full. My friend had the steak pie, the portion was huge and well cooked. The chips looked scrumptious and I was glad he could not eat all he had so I pinched what chips were left and they even tasted better than they looked. This is a must place to visit if you want good food

I met with 3 friends to have lunch at the Crown. One of our party (in her late 70s) is virtually wheelchair bound. When the staff at the Crown became aware of her mobility issues, they did everything humanly possible to ensure our lunch was trouble-free and enjoyable. They were very solicitous without being intrusive. The menu is extensive and interesting. The portions are generous, and the food was delicious. From witnessing how other parties were treated, I know our experience was the norm. The service was quick and efficient. Such good food and service usually comes at a premium price, however I believe the prices at the Crown are very reasonable and bely the high quality. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the complete experience of dining at the Crown, and will definitely return.

The carvery food was by a very long way the worst I have ever had making hospital food seem really appetising. The miniscule slice of beef was tough and inedible, the vegetables lukewarm. By contrast the lucky few and went for the vegetarian option had a superb dinner. How I wished I had made that choice.

Staff are either ignorant or incompetent or both. having dined here before a few times my wife and I stopped in for lunch as walk-ins. I entered and asked for a table for 2, the lady behind the bar made a show of the checking availability on the iPad, many tables were reserved so we guessed that we might be unlucky. "Sorry, we have nothing available", "okay no problem" Her colleague then, right in front of me picked up the bookings iPad and addressed the couple behind me, who also didn't have a reservation. "Oh, you're in luck, we have one table left". As i said a mix of ignorance and incompetence We won't be returning!

Extremely disappointed with staff attitude and service. We visited having eaten here a few times before and arrived on the off chance with no booking After checking through the booking system we were informed that were no tables available for my wife and I for at least 2hrs - fair enough. However the staff then immediately seated 2men behind us in the queue who also didn't have a reservation, telling them they were lucky to get the last table. As I turned to question the staff member who had served me, she just shrugged her shoulders at me in a 'tough, I don't care' manner. Extremely rude, arrogant and ignorant.

This is a great location and has a great atmosphere and character. Unfortunately I have noticed a decrease in care generally especially with the food over the past few years. Our meal, which came fairly quickly, one was undercooked . When removed to cook longer it came back to the table looking like a 'dogs breakfast' with no care for presentation at all. We also noticed another table receiving cold chips! And the once amazing steak pie dinner has rather lost its lustre! This did not used to happen!!?? The dessert we had, although yummy, generally way overpriced (IMO)...as were the other desserts. Maybe increase from 4 small churros to 6? There were many staff who at times seemed to be tripping over themselves as one would give the bill, we would pay and then we were asked to pay again...so, communication ??? Overall, disappointed . I would however, recommend as this is only my opinion and the building and ambiance is very pleasant.

Great night, shame about the bar staff. I understand it was very busy as start of Biggars Little Festival but really there is no need to speak to paying customers in the manner the young bearded man done as soon as we arrived. He was very grumpy as a bus load of us came from another village local to Biggar to support a band that were playing. From getting off the bus & entering the venue he decided to give everyone a balling because the door was open and was letting out the hot air from inside, if this was really a big problem on a relatively mild night could you not have arranged for a better more organised entry system. Then he was clearly getting very stressed out at taking orders from customers (myself being one of them). I thought I was doing him a favour by showing him my written order but he decided that I deserved a dressing down as I didn’t have the name of the pint of lager I wanted but if he had the patience he would have seen I had the pint glass in my hand with the name of the lager written on it, and then he snapped again as I hadn’t written down the flavour of the 3 shots I wanted, again not giving me the time to tell him which flavour I didn’t want. Is there really any need to get this angry with paying customers, if you cannot handle the pressure maybe it’s time to reconsider the environment you have chosen to work in.

Asked for a table for 9 and got two tables that meant one of the party had their back to some. Waited an hour for food, people who came in after us ordered food and were finished and away before us. When we did get food, there was one plate short and had to wait till the rest of the party was almost finished before it came. One dish, Balmoral chicken, was tough to cut, the gammon steaks were salty and tough. There was a dispute about one of the children having a small portion of fajitas which she has had in here before but on this occasion the "chef" said it couldn't be done. The other meals were enjoyed as was the puddings. The establishment appeared not to be busy so what want wrong? I have lived in and around Biggar for over 40 years and yes you can sometimes have a bad meal but come on Crown. I will be taking my custom elsewhere in future which is a shame as my first choice was always The Crown. In fairness, the bill was reduced but this was all witnessed by a senior member of staff who appeared to be off duty but kept quite. 👎

Called in for lunch on Tue 26th, as a small family group of 5, to celebrate a 90th birthday of one of the group. Quickly seated, but the server missed the state of the table as I had to request that it was cleaned down again; all the place settings were there, but so was a huge long lump of mud that looked to have been picked out of the hiking boot.....NOT difficult to miss! Studied the menu as various other customers arrived to be seated. Watched a few folk already seated being brought their food. Kept sitting, waiting and watching as we made out meal choices....and that was it...sitting, waiting, watching, nothing else happening! BUT as soon as it was clear that, A. nobody had asked what drinks we'd like while checking the menu, and B. a couple of tables who'd been seated after us had had their food orders taken and drinks brought before we'd had the time of day - the conversation of our group was one of "we're being blanked, we'll go somewhere else".... I then left to check other options on the High Street. Sadly, the 90 year old in the group is not too mobile, so the group waited for my information before following me. About 10 minutes or so after I left, the waitress finally took their order. NOT impressed with the lack of attention to detail re. the mud on the "clean" table, NOR with being totally ignored by waiting staff. As I have a rule about not rewarding such abysmal behaviour with money I grabbed a bacon sandwich and coffee from a café instead. The people who remained in the Crown to have their meal said that no explanation was offered for the delay, nor any apology given = and even though The Crown is our regular place to go for a meal when visiting Biggar the consensus was THAT'S THE LAST TIME WE GO TO THERE...! Anyone considering The Crown for meals would best make sure they have a lot of time to sit & stare at the walls and the other diners, as you'll be waiting a long time before there's anything apart from mud on the table in front of you!

Wow! Blown away by the excellence of this pub/restaurant, absolutely faultless from the second we walked in without reservation . Perfect service, AMAZING food, massive choice of vegetarian meals for myself and soy free for my friend with an allergy ! The owner/managers knowledge of allergens was spot on , he and all the other staff were brilliant , literally cannot think of a single factor that lets this place down! Beautiful real open fires even down to the little complimentary basket of products in the ladies toilet! We only wish we lived close by ! 11/10 ! Perfect!!!

I have eaten in the Crown numerous times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service. However, that all changed today due to a very inconsiderate dog owner sitting at the table next to our party who allowed their dog (Spaniel) to bark intermittently whilst sitting on the upholstered seating being fed from the table. The sharp barking was really annoying, it ruined our lunch with our friends as we tried to have a conversation. I'm a dog owner myself and I've brought my own dogs with me on several occasions to the Crown. The difference is they sit quietly under the table and don't disturb anyone.

Very good food and good value as well. Staff are there to help but not at all intrusive - they have the fine balance correct. Been a few times now and each time was quality, so I'll certainly be back. Recommended for sure.

I come in on my own because I’ve just moved to Rutherglen after a break up, Russell is friendly, approachable and just a good guy to chat to. All other staff are great too. Thank you.

Perhaps the greatest experience i have had at a restaurant in a long time. The food took maybe 25 mins and our server said "I'm so sorry this took so long" AND GAVE US FREE FRIES. The food was fantastic i would recommend it to anyone looking for a casual night out with friends/family 10/10

A good place to visit for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The food is very good and the staff are helpful and friendly. The garden centre itself is a bit small but has a decent amount of garden ornaments, plants, etc and has a good selection of gifts. Well worth a visit.
