Called in today after being recommended by a friend. Superb carvery the best around, I would say. Everything was hot fresh and the beef just melted in your mouth. Staff are very attentive to your needs and very warm and welcoming. This is rare nowadays. This will now be our family go to carvery. Highly recommended.

Great views, nice place inside and out, fabulous staff too but the food wasn't very good unfortunately, lots of the carvery items my family had should really have been binned and replaced as they had gone so dry they were inedible. My son was starving so ate most of it apart from the tough roast beef which was more like jerky. I had a burger which was overcooked and overseasoned/too salty, chips were good. Maybe we came at the wrong time of day at half 4 ish between lunch and dinner. I would like to try the carvery when it's fairly fresh.

Lunch out for 3 of us. My husband had steak, medium to rare, it was delicious (I had a taste) steak was cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth. Great quality steak. I had southern fried chicken burger, good taste, very nice coleslaw and well presented. Daughter had the fish and chips. Quite a large fish. Cooked well. Will be back soon. Oh and great service too.

My self and my family have now visited twice since they reopened and all i can say is the place the food and the staff are fantastic. We called in this week to take advantage of the 50% eat out discount and we really enjoyed it again. It was very busy yet the food was spot on amd even tho the staff where rushed off there feet they stil tended to our every need and went out there way to make us feel very safe and happy I would highly recommend the Royal Oak to family and friends, its a lovely clean and very safe pub for those who are still nervous about eating out and the staff have always been great. We will be calling back next week for sure. Thanks Royal Oak

I wouldn't like to say 10/10 but it comes in as a very decent 7/10.Service was good from the 1 bar staff (it was quiet) with people being served quickly and accurately, young lady behind the bar, very pleasant. The meats were excellent, I had gammon with turkey, the only 'major' flaw was the peas - I was looking for my pea shooter...could have hurt somebody! lol.Potatoes and other veg excellent, will be going again.

Firstly, we had to wait ten minutes to be served. The chef brought out a new gammon which wasa really salty, the turkey was like dried up cardboard, the mash potato was solid, as were the Yorkshire puddings. The assistant cut the turkey so thinly it was shredded. When I asked for slices of meat she said that's easier said than done. It was the worst carvery I have ever had and will no be returning, nor will I recommend anyone to this place.

Visited this morning for Sunday breakfast after a break of over 2 years. The place has been refurbished looking more welcoming and now has that "looked after" feeling. We usually go to a well known branded restaurant group in Westhoughton but will definitely be returning here. The breakfast was help yourself with unlimited hot drinks and not from a refreshment machine that in the other establishment was frequently broken. The food and choice is of an excellent standard and the bread is of excellent quality for toasting. We will be returning, telling our friends and would encourage those who may previously have eaten to try it again. You are made to feel extremely welcome

Made a return to this restaurant after noticing it had had a make over .We had previously avoided this place for the last few years after having poor meals and a dirty environment over a number of visits. What a surprise and so glad we decided to give it another try under new management and with a refurb the experience was a 10/10. We had breakfast for two with tea and coffee all unlimited and at a very reasonable price of under £12 for us both !! The food was very good lots of choice and the staff polite and efficient we will be returning and spreading the word. Worth a visit .

We’ve been as a family a number of times since refurbed and it is one of the nicest carveries I’ve eaten at, however, not sure whether it’s down to the food or cleaning solutions but within an hour of eating need to visit the bathroom, I even didn’t eat roast potatoes this visit in case it was due to oil. I will go back and cut out Yorkshire pudding and pigs in blankets and see what happens. If it not the food it must be the cleaning products for the glasses/crockery, etc.. Wonder if anyone else has experienced similar...

As you can probably tell from the title this review in no way a reflection of the food. We weren’t able to get that far due to the level of service which was very poor. I don’t often put bad reviews only in exceptional circumstances but I believe this experience warrants it. Came on a recommendation so was looking forward to a family Sunday meal at a pub I used to come to many times when I was a young lad. Brought my girlfriend and our little boy so why I had hold of our son my partner attempted to get us a drink only to be overlooked by 2 members of staff. The speed of service was painfully slow and as our little boy was getting restless we swapped over hoping for a better result. No such luck as I too was overlooked twice by the member of staff who chose to serve 2 other patrons even though I’d been there waiting longer than both. At this point I accepted that the poor experience I’d had wasn’t go to be redeemed by the food and decided to take my family elsewhere. Most people know that taking family out doesn’t leave much change out of £50. My money will spend anywhere, in this case the Yarrow Bridge about 6 miles up the road, service was great, food was great and the price was reasonable. I let my thoughts be known before leaving as I only get to spend every other weekend with my family due to working away. I’m afraid my experience would encourage people to go elsewhere.

We used to go here quite a lot and stopped doing so as it simply went downhill. There has now been a revamp and the place looks lovely. however, we all dine out for the quality and price of the food and drink and not for the decor. that said, the Royal Oak has much improved in this facility as well and my absolute bug with them previously was they never had broccoli on the menu...now they have! The food was very nice and there was no queues even at 5pm in the evening. the sun was shining so to sit outside on the new terrace was lovely too.

It is a carvery but I have to say compared to Pine tree farm a couple of miles away it just isn't close. I cannot eat gluten and it was very disappointing to see a new restaurant with a new menu not really catering for this dietary need. In addition I accept that I am awkward as I dont eat meat. 1st time visit in a very long time. Its been done up very nicely. Seen the post on facebook for breakfast at £4.95 for unlimited breakfast. Went sunday morning around 10.15 expecting it to be quite busy. It was very quite. Teas and coffees are unlimited once you've bought one. All the food is set out in the carvery area. All looks fresh and clean. Sausage, bacon, beans, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms and eggs. Eggs was dippy as well. All cooked well been to others and sometimes the bacon and sausage could do with cooking longer but these was cooked perfect. Theres very fresh white and brown bread. Only problem only 1 toaster that will hold 2 slices. If it was busy would be quite a wait. Unless they have more and as was quite only put 1 out. will visit again for breakfast and would also come and try the carvery 1 day.

On remarking to lady in charge was told " new portion control policy in place". Vegetable selection dry and cold. When complained was told everybody else was happy with food. Looking at heaped plates of food left, told a different story. After the rudeness and really poor food, have no hesitation in telling friends and family how bad the experience was.

Beef tasted like a bisons lovelength. Roast potatoes, more like incinerated my precious, I’ve seen more life in a Gerry atric society tug of war. The vegetables were something else altogether, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, sprouts each one more anaemic then the next looked like shrek had pissed all over his allotment. The plates were cold and the service, well I’ve never experienced out like it in my life took my seat only to be harassed by whom I assume to be the manager bobbing her head round the corner like a periscope with a twitch. Felt like I’d gone out for a meal in Alcatraz and to be fair think I’d of been better off doing so. An establishment such as this I had such high hopes for its Brexit interior upon arrival gave me the hit of land of hope and glory I required in these dark days of extension upon extension stopping the breakaway of our green and pleasant lands. However my initial vigour and satisfaction dissipated like a trump in gale force winds however the bad smell of the experience as a hole lingered far too long much like the dead sheep car is in the back of my ford mondeo.

Took my 14 year old Daughter for her birthday as she wanted a carvery. There was a poster offering child's carvery for £1 when an adult main meal was purchased, so we decided to order such so she could have a dessert as well. The carvery was ok, just basic but meat was very fatty and roast potatoes had been sat for an hour or two, but it was edible. Wasn't til I sat down I realised I had been charged full price for the meals, not in accordance to the advertisement. I asked the 'duty manager' about it, she said yes the offer is between 2-5pm.. it was 4.50pm, she then asked how old my child was I said 14, she then advised me that she shouldn't have even sold me a child's carvery as she was too old! I asked the definition of a child and was told under ten. Pointed out that poster didn't state this and was told 'I don't write them'. Regardless of my child's age, she was served a child's portion and only had two pieces of meat, two potatoes and a yorkshire pudding! Her friend then came in and they were clearly discussing us, she came down to look at the poster, then another staff member came to look at it, we were made feel unwelcome so didn't stay for dessert! Later the same evening a few of my dancing Mum friends went to get something to eat, they have been going there twice a week for a few months, however, they were turned away as they were told a coach party was coming in... I drove past 45 minutes later and the place was empty! I hope someone from Milton is reading this because these guys need serious customer service training! Not to mention another staff member taking up a whole table of four to sit using his phone whilst coughing and sneezing everywhere and the pong coming from the toilets as you walk in the door! Won't be recommending!

I had to take my wife to the train station for a short break abroad. So me in my wisdom suggested we have lunch at the above as it was en route to the station. What a big mistake. Upon arrival we were greeted by the bar staff who to be honest were polite and helpful but I am afraid that's were it ends,We both had the carvery Sunday lunch and it was awful here are the reasons why. We had the choice of four meats beef turkey chicken gammon, I decided to have Chicken and what they described as BEEF the Yorkshire Puds were burnt the Cauliflower cheese was like cement and completely tasteless, then comes the roast rock potatoes, in fact all the veg we had between us was unseasoned bland and to be honest down right rubbish we both left very disappointed indeed. Then we noticed the place is up for sale I am not surprised really after our dining experience. This is a well established pub and a shame its going to end up yet another empty boarded up business. Common sense must prevail and sack the kitchen staff should be number one task because that's the cause of its downfall. Please believe me I am not in the habit of posting a bad review but I had to make an exception in this case.

Visited 13/10/18 for lunch. What we witnessed will haunt me forever. A ‘ WAITRESS’ and I add that term loosely, helped herself on numerous occasions to pieces of meat from the carvery and proceeded to walk towards the area that held the sauces, gravy etc and dipped the meat into it, before licking her fingers and walking away. Did this happen the once? NO, whilst I was dining with my husband, she proceeded to take roast potatoes and do the same with those on several occasions, each time she attempted to do this secretly behind the section of wall as you come from behind the serving area or in plain view by heading once again to dip into the gravy. We have never been as disgusted by anything as revolting as this, this ‘ waitress ‘ wasn’t young, so naivety could not be used. Thankfully we hadn’t eaten the carvery and had eaten from the menu, however the food was tasteless and in parts from frozen and not fresh foods, pub grub at its worse. Our regret is that we didn’t kick up a stink and video the whole scene. Good luck if you decide to dine there in the future!!!!! DISGUSTING

The food that they served in the carvery wasn’t particularly nice, this was due to that the food was cold from probably being out on the side for how many hours and the Yorkshire Puddings were hard and crispy when they aren’t supposed to be normal, they were probably once again left under the lamp for who knows how long.

I visited this pub today to to meet two friends for a drink and a carvery. After waiting outside for what seemed like an eternity for the pub to open much later than scheduled, we were finally allowed to enter the esablishment. However, I am willing to overlook this late start purely due to the following events being decidedly worse. As I joined the undeservingly long queue of patrons, I noticed the hideous premiere inn-esque décor and endlessly boring soundtrack and wondered why I had ever thought that dining here would be a good idea. When I finally got to the front of the queue to order 2 pints of Pepsi and a carvery meal, I was presented with 2 glasses of lemonade, which, I may add, were nowhere near filled. I alerted the bartender that I had been given the wrong drinks but she simply told me that she 'had already poured them' and insisted multiple times that I had 'definitely ordered lemonade.' Both my friends assured me that this was not the case. I requested that the drinks were swapped but the lady refused and told us to 'take it or leave it.' Clearly this lady, whom I can only describe as rude and incompetant, has never been tought the principle in business that the 'customer is always right.' I would hesitate to allow her to run a bath, let alone a pub.

Called in at this pub before going on to the Challenge Cup semi finals at the University of Bolton stadium. Ordered a pint of Greene King IPA as it seemed to be the only draught real ale stocked. It was without doubt one of the worst drinks I’ve tasted in over 40 years of drinking real ale. It’s normally a pretty bland beer but this was vile, it must have been off. I tried two sips then threw it away; some of it splashed onto a tree, I hope it survives!

The rude staff made it clear that rugby fans weren’t welcome. They put a sign up while we were there saying “no rugby fans past this point”.

Went to Royal Oak again for lunch with friends. Expectations were quite high after last visit, we're not disappointed. For a really good carvery this is hard to beat, real slices of meat, unlike big name establishments, where they serve "see through slices". Vegetables cooked and piping hot. For the price you pay it is very good value for money. Desserts very good too. Staff welcoming and also give good service. Happy to recommend to all.

Been 2 week in a row. I have to say for a standard carvery I think it is well worth it. I had roast beef both times and it was spot on. Nice mash, nice roasties, lovely gravy. Would definitely return.

Have been coming to the carvery regularly for many years but I see the prices have jumped up recently. Also £19.95 for a bottle of wine! Eve the best restaurants don't charge that much... total rip-off!

We really enjoyed our meal today. The roast potatoes was delicious like the ones you make at home. We managed to get at the front and we was able to relax together. We decided not to have a dessert.

Just been for a late tea and it was very good value. We had 4 adults and 3 children's carvery. All 3 meats were well cooked and tasty, even the beef was lean and tender. All the vegetables were hot and plentiful. The kids and 2 adults had the refillable ice cream while 2 others had the special Lemon meringue sundae which was delicious..

We went yesterday and we all had carvery, the beef was very nice, Turkey was very dry, on the veg side the roast potatoes over cooked, cauliflower under cooked. There was no broccoli and it was only just 5 p.m. when they had stared service, and the crazy had no taste, we did have puddings and they where very nice.

Very good value. The carvery is always excellent but today the veg let it down. Roast pots were overcooked and hard and peas and beans undercooked and tough. Usually much better than this

Visited here on spec and decided on the carvery, paid the extra for the large carvery with extra Yorkshire pud and sausage. Very generous portion of meat , had turkey and beef. Loads of choice for veg and potatoes , including chips. Had a very high pile of food , only taking a spoonful of each. Very tasty, great value.

Visited with my family and relatives for a nice meal. Only 3 out of the 6 of us wanted carvery and myself, my wife and son wanted something from the main menu.

Very disappointed with our visit today. Menus were on the table and our party wanted a mixture of carvery, items from the main menu and a kids meal. Upon checking the menu, my son initially wanted a tuna sandwich, however this was on the light bites menu which is not served on Sundays. The menu is clear on this. Upon ordering we were informed that “you can’t order from the main menu on Sundays”. Nowhere on the menu does it say this. Despite this I was allowed to order Mac n cheese from the main menu because they serve is as part of the carvery anyway. This was served with garlic bread which was not the 3 cheese loaf wedge as per the menu. I was also disappointed with the size of the meal which I would have described as a child’s portion.

We called in on the off chance. Was surprised how generous the meat portion was, usually get "wafer thin" meat slices at other upmarket carveries. Vegetables were well cooked, not and a good selection. Well worth the money.

First time here and took a seat and looked at the menu, typical Brewers Fayre type menu, had the carvery which was £8.45 Sunday and it was ok and that was it, OK, main meals on the menu are cheaper than the carvery. Staff were friendly enough but better places out there for a couple of pounds dearer. Needs a bit of a lick of paint also quite dim in places.

I meet a friend here every so often as it is halfway between where we live. Fine dining it is not but, if you want some decent quality good value food, this is your place. True, the tables can be sticky as some have said but no wonder. Even mid afternoon on Wednesday it was doing the roaring trade as it offers tremendous value for money. We both went for carvery and with two large diet Coke‘s it was just over £12! Not sure what some people expect for this but I think this is great value.

We had the large carvery today at the Royal Oak in Westhoughton, we arrived for just after 12 and It was fairly quiet. I was served with 2 large cuts of Gammon, Turkey and Roast Beef. I filled my plate with perfectly crisped roast potatoes, mash, cabbage, stuffing and drenched the lot in home made gravy..... it was perfect! The only issue I had was the fact that I couldn't finish it!! I am 100% returning tomorrow! :) - I timed it perfectly as well, as it was quite busy by 12:45.

Where do we start. Tables clean however sticky all over - perhaps they need replacing. Only one person on the bar and one chef. Saying that only 4 tables used on a mid-week night @ 6:30 (and we had 2)!!! The food looked like it had been under the heat lights for hours and was totally tasteless - the peas where shrivelling up,, mash potatoes had set solid, carrots hard, 2 pieces of cauliflower cheese left. Meat - all available however turkey looked totally dry, roast beef all well cooked, gammon looked nice and sausages burnt. Gravy was lukewarm, and even mint sauce could not bring some taste into this very sorry looking meal. Seven people eating and not one said that they had enjoyed their totally tasteless meal, would we go again sorry no we wouldn't. Total shame as this has always been a popular venue - i know it is a cheap eat but even that deserves some food with taste.

Pity they dont have a section for adults only. This would make it more tolerable, service at the bar is slow. Food hot and should be probe tested more often. Due to visit again in the next few weeks. Wont risk taking family or close friends at the moment. Birthday trial/visit. Was couple visit.

Every time we go for a carvery it’s not always brilliant it’s very hit and miss. The meat is often very dry and the vegetables are frozen. But sometimes it’s ok and just ok for instance the turkey was nice this time but the gamon was dry and they don’t put salt in mash potatoes or vegetables and the roast potatoes are not crispy but you can’t expect perfection for the price you pay . we paid £29.67 for three carverys and three soft 1/2 pint soft drinks. They gave US pint glasses because they ran out of half pint but she said she would only charge for 1/2 pint , not sure she did. So no we probably won’t go back anytime soon not has good value has it once was.

So on arrival I ordered our drinks at the bar where a polite young man served me and said if you would like to find a table I can bring them over, on which another person promptly placed the menus down. We all chose to have the fish goujons where the waitress advised us they were in breadcrumbs which was good, and we ordered some chips to accompany. Our sandwiches were served along with the chips. I must say that the fish goujons were extremely over cooked, making them hard, you didn’t get much fish in there, although a very strong smell of fish! So being extremely hungry we ate what we could as couldn’t be bothered in complaining! Doubt be going back anytime soon, not for food anyway.

This is a place we visit in frequently but a group of us were out early on a Saturday afternoon and it proved a good venue. It isn't my favourite brewery but there are lots of other drinks to have instead. It was a sunny day so we took a table outside and it was fantastic. Lots to see going on around you and they even had a television on there showing the racing from Royal Ascot. It isn't a particularly expensive place but we were warned about the car park. If you do leave your car there make sure you register as apparently it is strictly enforced and you might receive a fine if you don't register.

First time at this restaurant since it moved. Very impressed with food and service. Menu has good choices. All food arrived hot and was of good quality. The portion sizes were also good value for money. Based on our experience would certainly recomend.
