They no longer serve food, so this needs to be made public notice! When I asked the guy behind the bar he said he could not do anything! A party of Four, left very disappointed... Customers beware.

Pub looked really nice from outside. Inside it was clean and the bar lady was friendly. Football was on plenty of locals watching. Dog friendly. Surprisingly the real ale wasn’t too great. Shame about the incredibly irritated cranky landlord making everyone feel uncomfortable with his attitude - all over a tv remote. If I’d have been the bar lady I’d have walked out! Shame really.

Stumbled upon this place for an afternoon drink. A very traditional pub, inside and out. A very traditional landlord too. Staff were absolutely the best, we were all made to feel very welcome. So much so, that we returned on Saturday evening and sampled kareoke night, great fun. We came back for Sunday lunch, which was absolutely amazing and great value for money. Some of our party wanted to watch Leicester City game that afternoon, and that's exactly what we did, with a good few drinks on the side. Thank you to all the staff, Richard and Naomi in particular, and of course those working in the kitchen. Would highly recommend.

We have come to Pocklington for the first time this weekend and went looking for somewhere to have an evening meal. We came across the Cross Keys pub and started with just drinks, but the smell of the food being served was appetising so we decided to eat there. The food came in a reasonable time and was hot and freshly prepared. Good size portions and of a very high quality. Pie of the day was chicken leek and mushroom and was lovely, with homemade pastry. Chips were exceptional. Veg was well cooked and seasoned. The staff were very friendly and background music was played at a suitable level to provide atmosphere without having to shout to be heard. Overall a very good experience - we will definitely come again.

I travel a lot and eat in many places however I must say this Sunday lunch was up there with the very best. Fresh produce freshly cooked, veg was seasoned with an exquisite taste and absolutely delicious. Served hot, and on a warm plate - this basic element is not done in most venues - and a hearty portion will mean you will not leave this place hungry. I highly recommend it, excellent decor, pleasant staff, very clean and tidy with a nice atmosphere. Only amazement was it wasn’t busy - hence hidden gem - so I’d get down there fast before it becomes more widely common as I’d expect this will become very busy before long.

We have been in this pub many many times over the last 8 months simply because this is a very friendly place to be with friendly staff. They started doing food last and we came in and ordered 2 steaks. They were cooked to perfection and there was enough sides too and these were also good perfect. We decided to call in again today for Sunday lunch. We had lamb roast. Once again the dinner was absolutely perfect in every way. We would recommend this lovely pub to anyone.

We visited this pub at lunchtime on a Tuesday (market day) and were surprised that there were only a few customers in. Why? We were greeted by the lady behind the counter, who told us to find a table and place our order at the bar. Simple enough. The menu is quite comprehensive and plenty of items to our taste, plus a special, which was advertised at the bar. Everything was fine, the food, the service, the prices. will we return, very likely yes. While we were waiting for the food, we enjoyed viewing the old pictures of Pocklington, displayed throughout the pub. Interesting for someone originally from the area. I see from the questionnaire "does this restaurant have waiters and waitresses?", well we ordered at the bar and the chef brought our food to the table, asked if there was anything else we would like and brought some sauces for us.

Very sorry to hear that the man about town is disappointed about no dogs, my husband has been visiting the pub for nearly sixty years but stopped going when the pub was taken over by dogs, paws on counter etc and it was not clean. What a change recently with a new refurbishment and a new landlord, they have also just started food again after a kitchen refit. Despite the previous comments about the pub not being busy, it actually seems to be doing very well and good luck to the new landlord. We do not dislike animals but feel that we prefer to eat from a hygiene point of view dog free.

First night open tonight after Sarah left. I've been drinking at the Keys for about 20 years plus and never been told that dogs are not welcome. I think the new landlord of the pub doesn't realize it's a working persons, down to earth pub. Warm and welcoming. Not anymore. If you have a dog. You are not welcome. Even quality pubs/wine bars like Judsons, JJs and the Goose let our K9 friends in. I think the only pub in Pocklington that doesn't let dogs in now will be the keys. What a shame. The folk running the place obviously don't know what a good local pub it was. Shame a lot of folk that were regulars at the Keys have dogs. Anyway rant over. Soon be closed again through lack of customers. Hopefully the next publicans will respect the kind of pub this is and locals love how it used to be. Warm, friendly and happy for all to drink in. Big learning curve for the ones in now. Good luck to you

I lunched here with friends. I ordered gammon which I thought rather excessive at £13.50 particularly as I had to choose between egg and pineapple to accompany it, but I was horrified when I found several hairs on my plate after I had nearly finished my meal. When I pointed this out to the girl who served us she merely said she would pass my comment on! Needless to say I shall not be repeating the experience.

Called in here recently as had been told that the real ale and food was decent. On arriving it was evident that this is a tired traditional pub in need of some tlc. There were around 5 handpulled beers available and I have to say that the 2 I tried Black Sheep and Doom bar were pretty good. The food however was a different story and not really even up to pub food standard. The atmosphere was friendly and I can recommend a beer or even 3 but I would personally eat elsewhere.

11 ravenous guys doing the way of the roses cycle ride were booked in for an evening meal on 7-5-16.On arrival as requested and arranged for 8-00pm the staff were not expecting us.We did notice that the pub was or shortly going to be under new management and I think that an interim manager was in place. This should have set alarm bells off but we were all hungry and decided to stay, even though we had to organise our own tables so we could all dine together. The waitress then told us there was only 4 steaks available,3 gammon steaks and the rest of the menu. After debating who desired the steaks,me and my son were lucky to obtain a gammon steak each.I asked for these to be well done so the fat edges were well cooked. They were well done and as dry as sticks with the fat not even cooked. My son remarked that this was possibly the worst meal he had ever eaten and the guys having the other fare were also under impressed.Such a shame as the pubs interior was quirky, the beer was good and the position ideal for Pocklington,

Russ and Louise make this pub what it is. They have had a change over of staff recently which I think is a good thing because the ones who are left are the friendliest nicest people going. It's a very laid back atmosphere they do live music, 2 meals for a tenner mid week and theme nights. I love the mushroom stroganoff that Wayne makes from scratch. My husband always without fail gets Ham Egga and Chips. They steaks here are good too as are the speciality burgers. We are lucky to have such a great pub with in walking distance of our house. Booked for valentine's evening as a good offer of 'spend £25 and get a free bottle of wine'. Ordered starters and main. Main came before the starter but rectified fine. However evening spoilt as I found I was complaining all evening. Asked for chips on the side with lasagne but came with chips but without garlic bread as stated. Then after trying 3 bottles of mayonnaise I gave up as all were empty. To finish off the bill showed a glass of wine at £3.50. We did not have a 'glass of wine' but the free bottle. They did however rectify this once pointed out. Staff apologised but did not seem bothered by the lack of attention to details. Was also disappointed that as it was Valentines evening the candles on the tables were not even lit and showed no ambience. Also disappointed as the menu selection is very 'boring'. Meals are basic and are what you can have any time at home. I was hoping that for a special evening that there would have been something a bit different on the menu but there wasn't. Aside from the above, the owners are very nice and have a great selection of good beers.

Staying near by on our first night we decided to pop into a local pub for a late dinner. Thankfully we went into cross keys, what a fantastic pub! With gorgeous food and lovely friendly owners and locals. Couldn't fault them on a single thing, cosy, clean, friendly, superb food!

After booking the day before. We arrived as a family of 7, eldest 89yrs, youngest 6yrs and were perfectly accommodated - excellent food, choices for all and the loveliest staff who saw to our needs - would recommend to all who travel nearby. A perfect 'local' that welcomes visitors! Ps: my steak was delightful

We chose this pub after looking on tripadvisor and were not disappointed. As we were a family of six, we called into the pub earlier in the day and reserved a table. We were offered a choice of table and were definitely given the impression that our custom was valued. The menu offers a good choice and was excellent value for money. Highlights were the grilled haddock and the steak pie. There was a range of burgers which tempted our teenagers and were demolished in seconds! Portions were just right. There was a very good range of beers on offer, all of which the hostess was happy to go through with us.Our meal arrived nicely cooked, piping hot and well presented. Of note was the friendliness of the service. We were served at the table and just chose to pay at the bar at the end. This made it a relaxed occasion, without the usual up and down to the bar each time we wanted anything. We give the Cross Keys 5 stars. Highly recommended and we would return if we were in the area again.

having read good reviews and word of mouth recommendations on Facebook a friend and I visited the cross keys on a Wednesday evening we were made very welcome I hadn't been in the pup for over ten years so was very pleased to see that it had not changed a great deal there was an excellent selection of real ales and other drinks to choose from we ordered our drinks and sat down in the area used for dining our order for food was taken promptly by a friendly member of staff all the food is cooked from fresh so we had a twenty minute wait which was fine as we had boath ordered sirloin steak with home made chips beer batter onion rings tomato mushrooms and mixed salad boath stakes were cooked to perfection and the rest of the main course was exelent after a short break and another pint of fine ale we ordered desert a hot chocolate fudge cake and apple pie both with ice cream both were exelent and finished off a lovely meal total cost of the meal was £44 so very good value we will definitely be returning for another meal and perhaps a night of live music or quiz night I can highly recommend a visit to the cross if you are in the pocklington area

Browsing the shops in Pocklington after visiting Burnby Hall came across this pub. I had the fish and chips and my partner had fish pie. The chips were hand cut and the food was lovely and hot. Both were very tasty. There were some lovely beers on offer and the price pf the food was reasonable. The pub was vey quiet when we arrived and it took a while for the food to arrive which the barman apologised for but it was worth waiting for. The toilets were immaculate. Certainly worth a visit if in Pocklington.

A gem of a cafe, lovely staff, quality food. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, even making up a takeaway salad box and a sandwich to be collected later. Plus the cafe is dog friendly....

We visited over Easter and loved all the little chocolate eggs hidden around the cafe - kept the kids entertained whilst they waited for their food! Lovely cafe with a great menu. We ordered a range of different food but loved the halloumi burger and cheeseburger especially. It’s great that dogs are allowed in this cafe but as we don’t own a dog, even better that there are two areas - one for dogs and one where dogs aren’t allowed. Service was quick and with a smile, reasonably priced too for restaurant quality food. The only improvement needed is the toilet area - could do with a update!

Stuck a pin in a ( google) map to find a breakfast one hour away from leaving holiday accommodation. What a find. Interesting decor showed off the home made cakes and savouries whilst we waited a few minutes for a table. Breakfast avocado with poached eggs on sourdough bread, sun dried tomatoes, chorizo and pea shoots was divine and substantial. Staff were friendly and obviously enjoyed serving and cooking as much as we enjoyed eating. Make a detour. Worth every mile and every penny.
