Really really disappointed. Prices like all these types of place are exorbitant. My wife and I ordered a hot dog and chips at £9.99 each. After a long wait the meal was awful. The smallest sausage in a supermarket cheap soft roll. Chips were undercooked and barely warm. With a pot of tea we spent nearly £25 for a poor offering. If you have more money then sense then go here for a meal.

Overpriced items. Bought a steak and Stilton pie, overpriced, no taste of Stilton and hardly any meat. More freshly baked cakes would be nice rather than the majority of pastries. Asked for the strongest cheddar cheese and was very weak taste in my opinion. The shop has many cute specialised items however but pricey.

The farm shop stocks some items that can be purchased in a supermarket for half the price. Avoid the frozen ready meals !!! Again these are so expensive. These products are the same price as you would pay in a restaurant or gastro pub. The restaurant option would have all the side dishes and trimmings included plus you don't need to cook it yourself.

A busy cafe but 2 staff stood around talking to a customer for 20 mins. Obviously doing no work & letting all the other staff do the work. This is a busy cafe. Only had sandwiches which were ok & fresh but nothing special. Sadly the attitude of the staff left a bad impression & probably won’t return.

Had slight reservation about visiting again as previous visit for breakfast not 100%. However it's situated in a lovely setting and was a beautiful Spring like day so we gave it another go. First the positives. The chap who greets and waits at table has provided excellent customer service on both our visits and the freshly squeezed orange juice is superb. However, the plates again were barely warm which is especially not good for breakfast food. Both our eggs were overcooked. The bread used for the toast and which is championed as farmhouse bread on the menu was in my opinion standard sliced bread. My toast was burnt and cold. Who allowed it to leave the kichen like that ? I wish I'd complained as it just wasn't acceptable. My partner had the 'large breakfast ' at £11.95. Bizarrely beans aren't included on this breakfast and are a £1.50 supplement! £33 later and unfortunately we won't be going back.

Went for breakfast with friends and ordered the Croots breakfast (£11.95). The (1) award winning sausage was delicious, as were the 2 hash browns and free range egg. The 2 rashers of bacon and single slice of toasted farmhouse bread were standard “supermarket” quality and the sautéed mushrooms were dry as a bone - definitely not sautéed. I couldn’t justify paying £1.50, more than the price of a whole tin, for a small ramekin of baked beans but the dry plate could have done with it. The large coffee (£3.50) was nice but served in a large mug that wobbled on the saucer. I’m happy to pay £15.45 for a premium breakfast but unfortunately this wasn’t it. Also no calorie count on the menu which I’m sure is a legal requirement since April last year…

We have been promising ourselves a visit here for a long time and in the main we were glad we did as so much of the visit shouted high quality. Upon arrival the greeting was great, however walking through to our table the menus left on the table looked a bit curly at the edges and table tops still had ring marks from yesterday.. Having ordered the crockery and cutlery were really good standard and positive service continued with attentive colleagues. Bacon, eggs, sausage in all the parties orders were spot on, top quality in line with the establishment. Lastly (and it’s a personal gripe) if you serve toast and preserves, no point having good quality butter and preserves if the bread looks like it’s from a pre cut supermarket loaf, especially when others in the party enjoyed sourdough uncut loaf with their meal…. Those small viewpoints highlighted prevented us giving a 5 star review which otherwise Croots Cafe firmly deserves.

Lovely place to visit. Staff were very nice and farm shop food looked very appealing! However. I have marked down because I really did not like the jars of liquid on the patio. These contained a lot of dead or dying wasps. It was cruel and distressing. Shan't go back to a place that can treat wildlife so cruelly.

It would have been five stars if the tables had been clean - they were all very stained and rather grubby looking. They looked as though a good wipe would clean them but if the stains are ingrained if I ran the business I would strip them all back repaint and varnish. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very attentive and the setting is beautiful- I was familiar with it as used to keep horses there many years ago.

So many things about our Afternoon Tea experience were very good. The service is attentive, caring and friendly; the range of food on our 3-tiered tower of plates was impressive; Gluten-free needs were taken seriously; value is great; and the venue is really well conceived and interesting, with a splendid farm shop. Unfortunately there were a couple of downsides. The plate-towers had clearly only just come out of a fridge, which is clumsy. Despite a month's notice, they insisted they couldn't provide Camomile tea and I had to bring my own teabags. We will be back, but would again ask that Camomile is available, that some plain shortbread is part of the offering, and that sandwiches etc have been removed from the fridge at least an hour before. It might also be a good idea to alter the balance between savoury sandwiches (more and larger would be nice) and sweet items such as cakes and scones. On our side, we'll pick a day later in the week, so that it really can be mid-afternoon, and not an Afternoon Tea at lunchtime !

We shop at Croots regularly, this was our first time trying the cafe and sadly it was not a very good experience. £34 is rather expensive for two club sandwiches and two coffees when they’re of this standard. The meat was very good as expected but the “hot” ciabatta sandwiches seemed to just be microwaved, they were soft and soggy. The coffees tasted like terrible machine coffees you might imagine finding in a transport cafe.

We visited yesterday for afternoon tea with Santa with our 3 year old daughter and new baby. The food was delicious and there was a lot of it! The staff were friendly and helpful. It was nice that Santa was there mingling amongst the tables as it felt like the children had a lot of time with him, rather than just a 5 minute visit. This is also nice for children who might be easily overwhelmed with an intense "sitting on the knee" experience. They get to see him for a good hour before any 1:1 time. Activities were provided at the table - writing a letter to Santa and decorating an edible xmas tree to take home. Once we had finished eating, we were taken to see Santa in his grotto. This is basically a small shed in the farm outbuildings but it is nicely decorated with lights etc. It felt cosy. Children were then able to choose their own gift from a selection. Would definitely recommend for younger children. Well done Croots! I will be enjoying our leftover cakes today!

Had family visiting and suggested Croots for lunch. We stopped by the Christmas marquee hoping to buy some last minute decorations, but to be honest it was all quite dull, nothing colourful or handmade, just lots of beige or 'cheap looking' items.Lunch, we ordered a JP with beans and 2 lots of the potato skins with cheese and bacon. The JP was brought out a good 5 minutes before the other 2 courses, we would've preferred that everything came out together. The potato skins came with sour cream, side salad and coleslaw. The skins were a whole potato scooped and filled. Gorgeous !!!Sadly the jacket spud was hard and cold in the centre. Fair play, we were given a refund for that meal and a complimentary mince pie.We bought a selection of items from the shop, and having taste tested the chocolate orange shortbread, we bought that too.On the whole it was a pleasant experience and the JP situation wouldn't put us off. In the christmas marquee it would've been nice to see handmade, original gifts.

Went to Croots for lunch - ordered a soup and 'ham hock' sandwich and a smoked salmon and crushed avocado with lemon oil dressing sandwich. Firstly was overcharged at the till and the member of staff blamed the till. Then when lunch came it was awful. My sandwich - smoked salmon on white - turned up on brown bread, called rustic granary but looked more like a wholemeal cut bread - with a slice of salmon and two slices of avocado. No butter, no dressing, very dry and unappetising. Was told they didn't butter the salmon sandwiches WHY?? - I then pointed out that the ham sandwich wasn't buttered either. No answer to that one! It was meant to be Ham hock but it looked like wafer thin ham - again very dry and unappetising. The tomato soup was the blandest soup ever tasted.

There is plenty of outside seating but no cover. A canopy over this area would encourage more customers to eat there as the views are lovely. Several people walked out whilst we were there due to lack of space. The food is as expected but as I have a food allergy it was limited. No alternative was offered when mentioning allergy. I could only have avocado and scrambled eggs on unpleasant bread, eggs were over cooked. The use of a decent bread supplier would make food more palatable. This is a lovely place and could be much improved with a bit more attention to detail.

Camping near by so Croots was a good option to have a hearty breakfast. Service was prompt, food was served in good time and the standard can’t be faulted. Both my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed a full English, changing items to suit each of our taste buds wasn’t a problem either. Will definitely return

Had breakfast @Croot’s. The service was great and friendly; food was good. Fantastic location and view. Place was quite which is great for a book reading or even work although local WiFi is a bit sluggish.

Had a lovely time enjoying the horses and lambs! Everyone loved the play area too but children a bit dissapointed as there were no ice lollies and they are dairy intolerant! Otherwise a perfect day out!!

I visited Croots after hearing many good recommendations from friends. We had visited the Derbyshire food and drink festival the day before which had been promoting Croots. Decided to take my family here who were visiting Derbyshire for the weekend.

We waited 40 minutes for a jacket potato and a pie. The staff serving us is very nice, but their kitchen is far too slow. We did not visit it at the peak time, and there were only a couple of guests before us. The Victoria sponge cake is very tasty though.

Found this place by accident and how pleased am I that I did! My friend and I had a lovely light lunch, very tasty and fresh, brilliant pot of tea (nice and strong) topped off with a slice of home made ginger cake (to die for) all very reasonably priced and servied by helpful and friendly staff. Browsed in the farm shop after and bought some lovely artisan bread and couldn't resist a lovely lamb chop for tea. Just delicious. Beautiful view from the cafe overlooking the mares and foals and the panoramic views of the countryside. Will definately return at the earliest opportunity.

Having shopped here for many years and not being able to get into the cafe as it was always full of customers, we made our visit earlier to be able to get two breakfasts.

Had lunch here with a group of friends having pre-booked the table. The soup was tasty with ample bread rolls. Reasonably priced and a clean environment. Free tap water available if you didn't want to buy a drink. Can't comment on the shop items as I didn't buy anything.

On a visit up to Derby, my sisters and I thought we’d try Croots for brunch. We ordered three breakfasts. The first two arrived, but mine was wrong. I’d ordered a veggie one but it arrived with sausages and bacon! The waitress said they would make it again. Then the third breakfast arrived which was the hash, which turned out to be a plate of mainly halved potatoes and not a lot else! By the time I received my breakfast for the second time, it was still wrong (came with Quorn sausages which I hadn’t ordered) and my sisters had both almost finished theirs! All three breakfasts were tasteless and bland. Over cooked scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes that had barely seen a grill, tasteless shrivelled mushrooms, soggy oatcake, everything totally lacking in seasoning and flavour. We never saw the waitress again, she never came back to check on us to see if everything was alright. On the way out of the shop I was tempted to buy a Croot’s homemade Bakewell tart but changed my mind as I didn’t want to be disappointed for a second time that day.

We called here as we like to try different Farm shops,we eventually ordered our lunch but was held up by the poor girl on the till having to do the hot drinks as well as taking the orders, one meal came out but the other 2 were along time after and the first one had been eaten. It would have been nice to eat altogether. We ordered a portion of chips and must say they were very good.We have been to other Farm shops locally which are much better but this is worth giving a try, but do not expect a smile from the ladies who bring your food out...............

Coffee is okay but not up to the standard of most coffee shop chains. Poor choice of cakes - 2 kinds of cake, 3 of tray bakes on a Monday mid-afternoon. The tray bake I had seemed to contain very cheap jam that was too sweet and not easy to identify (strawberry or raspberry?). My wife didn't believe her chocolate cake was home made as it had the flavour and texture of the sort of cake available mass produced in chain cafes. As the café is next to and open to the farm shop there is a constant meaty smell which doesn't go with eating in a café.

I was taken here by a friend from Derby. The cafe is clean and very pleasant with a good choice on the menu. The staff are very keen to give you what you want. Prices are very reasonable. The farm shop is packed with locally sourced goods all of which are tasty looking . I bought a fantastic quiche. For 40p, customers can by carrots and feed the main attraction which are the Shire horses in the fields. A very enjoyable experience in many ways.

Always travelled from Chesterfield for our chippie suppers from here, will not be doing this again. Food for 4 ordered, fish batter was like concrete, fish, chips and fish cake tasted very heavily of grease. Total waste as we threw it away, others in there were also complaining.

Surprise 70th birthday party held in the back of the venue. The party room was lovely anx spacious with patio access outside. I didn't even know it existed as you can't see from the front of the pub. Excellent buffet and staff very attentive. Xx

Had a very nice family lunch to celebrate a birthday. Adults and children really enjoyed their meals, the pies and the steak were excellent and the service very good. Will be back I'm sure.
