We normally eat at home on a Sunday as we think we cook better ourselves. My son has his driving test in 15 days so we thought that whould give him some experience and would have lunch out booking it on Saturday for the Sunday lunchtime half way round our route. We arrived and were shown to our booked table and then shown the menu after a drinks order was taken. My wife ordered a crab dish and my son and I had the charcuterie. My wifes meal arrived and she finished it but no shared meal. We asked what had happened and they forgot to put it on the order. We then got it 10 minutes later. Our main courses, which took some time to arrive, were a roast turkey, risotto and carbonara. Again my wifes arrived but ours arrived several minutes later and was tepid as though it had been waiting in the kitchen for some time. We returned it and it was returned warmer but the carbanara was dry and the risoto was bland and congealed. When asked at the end of the meal "how was it" we stated it was less than mediocre The waitress said "but you have eaten it all", cleared the dishes and walked away. When paying at the bar, again asked "how was it", we again stated it was less than satisfactory and the first waitress, who was standing near by, went into "but you eat it". I feel that the meal was not organised, from start to finish took 2.5 hours and our impressions wasn't helped by this. The starters were okay, the roast was average, the turkey was processed, the carrots over cooked and the gravy was like water. The carbanara was thick strips of pasta with no sauce so was dry, my risotto was by the time I ate it a stodgy mess. I can remember when the Inn had a good reputation but I am afraid they do not care enough for their food.

Came here last night for my son’s 18th Birthday. The staff were attentive and super nice. The atmosphere here is lovely, big open fire and a homely feel. The food was outstanding so whoever the chef is knows his stuff. Thank u so much for giving us a lovely night.

We have just eaten lunch at the Crooked Inn. Most disappointing. Did not feel at all welcome. Slow service and very little attention given. Basic food overpriced. £27.95 for 2 simple courses! What a shame, as it was a special get-together for us all.

We had a 4 night stay here with friends. My wife is in a wheelchair & we have a small dog so we stayed in an "Adapted Room" (No. 14 - Walk-In Shower etc.). It was just fantastic! The staff could not help us enough - they were really attentive, polite and so welcoming. I can't speak too highly of them. Food, accommodation and location was just perfect....so much so we've re-booked for 2025. A massive thank you to the Crooked Inn.

My partner and I stayed here overnight . We were given a room on the first floor, and I didn't realise that there were ground floor rooms. Otherwise, I would have requested one. The room was nicely decorated. It looked a little basic. There was, however, a king-size bed with an excellent mattress and bedding, a desk with one seat, a wall mounted tv, and a hospitality tray with tea , coffee granules, and a jar with filter coffee. There was a small coffee pot and a packet of biscuits. Sugar in the room, but you have to collect milk from the bar. This could be problematic in warmer weather. The power shower has three power settings, instructions are given, but they aren't really necessary. Bottles of shampoo and soap/bodywash are provided. The room has everything you need for a comfortable night , it's very quiet apart from the sound of doors opening. That isn't a problem, though. The one room bar has an added conservatory, and there is a fireplace, just one of the original features . The lighting is subdued, which adds a cosy feel. The bar had a couple of local beers and spirits, too. We had lunch , I think the food is seasonal and had some interesting choices, including risottos, game, crab whitebait, steaks , pies, fish & chips, and curry.. The food is a little.pricy, but the portions are generous and usually prepared to order. The staff are efficient but not particularly friendly. Food orders are taken at the table, with very little conversation, if any. There is a garden with children's play areas. Children aren't allowed in the bar. Dogs allowed but must be on a lead, I think thete is one pub dog and rather aloof cat , no other animals to be seen. We came down to breakfast last, I think, We wete dealt with briskly, and I got the feeling that we had to rush. The Eggs Royale was OK. The hollandaise was rather thin and a little too much lemon . Breakfast includes cereals, yoghurt , cereal bars , fresh fruit ( small portions),preserves, and cooked options. My partner chose the full English, thete was no hogs pudding by the looks of things .Generally presented well. We weren't offered toast, I didn't want any, but it's good to be asked. The breakfast room is above the bar. The inn is situated 2.5 miles outside Saltash on the Liskeard road and is signposted . You turn into what looks like a farm track and then down a drive. The inn is worth a visit in its own right , due to its age. Apparently, it can get busy, so if you plan to eat, then consider reserving a table. .

Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The bar and restaurant area is charming, with a lovely courtyard outside. Both the dinner and breakfast were good. I've attached some pictures. However, there was one issue that marred my experience. Upon check-in, the lady asked, "Do you want some fresh milk to take to your room?" This surprised me, as most hotels nowadays provide long-life milk cartons as standard. Unfortunately, this place only offers fresh milk on request. This was inconvenient because if you want a cup of tea or coffee in the morning, you would have to leave the bedroom block, trek across the courtyard, and into the pub in your pyjamas. Alternatively, taking a small jug to your room the night before means the milk would likely spoil by morning, especially since the rooms don't have fridges. It would be much better if they provided milk cartons with the tea and coffee tray. Additionally, I noticed on their website that they claim all their rooms have Vi-Spring mattresses. This was not the case for me. My mattress (Room 1) was just a standard one – nothing special, and suspect the other bedrooms might be same. There were a fair fe cobwebs in my room too and two spiders. But apart from these niggles overall a nice place and I do recommend it. But they do need to provide milk cartons.

Met family at the Crooked inn for dinner last night. Went in the bar there was a guy stood in the corner of the bar I asked if food was being served and he handed me 4 very dirty and stained menus and told us to find a table. We picked a table the guy came took our drinks order tried to start a conversation but he didn't want to know, the drinks came and he took the food order. We ordered 2 fish and chips 1 ham egg and chips and duck breast from the specials board. The food arrived and at first glance did not look over apitizing, the fish was full of bones the chips were disgusting black and hard, the eggs on the ham egg and chips were hard. A young lady came and asked if all was OK with the the food before we could answer she had gone. I called the guy over and pointed out the state of the chips he said I will get some fresh ones he came back after a few minutes with a bowl of chips that were worse than what we already had. I said after a complaint I thought the chef might have made an effort. He never commented nor gave an apology he just couldn't care so I asked for the bill he said go to the bar if you want to pay, we paid he never said thanks or good night. A total lack of interest in his Job. One to avoid in future. With so many establishments in the hospitality sector closing you would think they would try a little harder a smile comes for free and so do manners.

Visited today for lunch but hadn’t booked. Called beforehand to check they were open and a very friendly lady advised that they were open until 3pm which was good (another pub we tried didn’t answer the phone and we tried twice ) We received a very friendly welcome. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere , lots of choice on the menu. In particular the risotto was really tasty ! We’ll have no hesitations about re visiting.

Four of us had dinner here whilst visiting Plymouth. We ordered two Nachos starters between the four of us which were lovely, but they were so large we couldn’t finish them. I had Scallop Linguine to follow, which I only managed to eat half of. Others had a Burger, Chicken and Risotto. All were delicious but no one managed to finish their meals, which was a huge waste of food. The poor servers were carrying excess food from all the tables back to the kitchen. Obviously we didn’t order desserts …

Very disappointed. Stopped in for a nice meal. Ordered 2 lamb stews. Both plates arrived with one piece of lamb, size of a 5p piece. Chef must have know as he gave us one each. We pointed it out straight away and they reduced the £19 to £9 equivalent to a bowl of veg soup. Why did they not say that the lamb stew had finished instead of trying to fob us off. Won't be going there again. Shame as looked like a lovely pub.

After shopping in Plymouth we fancied a meal but it was getting late. Phoned the pub and advised last orders for lunch were 3 o’clock. We just made that but weren’t made to feel rushed, given time to order drinks and look at the menu although I think the chef had to stay on. 2 of us had the steak pudding. Be warned, it’s huge! Very tender meat and nice pot of gravy to put on. Chips were excellent. One person had the scallop linguine and said it was rich and delicious. Decent prices and lovely ambiance, thank you

Came in last night for some dinner. The young blonde girl behind the bar which I assume is called Jazmin as many people said her name to her was taking photos and chatting to the other bar lady then actually serving customers we waited a while to be served. Also her and the other lady was shining torches into each others mouths saying they was checking each others teeth. I got a pint of Jail Ale which was a bit funny tasting and a Gammon Egg and chips which was okay but if you want to be served in a nice place avoid at all costs.

A unique private country pub and inn in an off the beaten track country side. We stayed in a Comfort King size bedroom for 5 nights during our Cornwall vacation. Accommodation: lovely sized room with shower and sofa. Comfortable bed. Food: We dined in the resturant with an extended conservatory in the evenings during our stays. There are many choices on the evening menu for both starters and nains. The food was good and we had no complaints. Breakfast: There is a breakfast menu where you can choose continental or cooked breakfast. Good choices of cooked breakfast. We had the Full English which was very good. Staff service: We found the staff are friendly and helpful, whether they are behind the bar or serving the tables. There are a few young staff serving the tables which is good to see from an employment perspective. Although young they may be, they are polite and hardworking. During our stay, there were a few glitches with our room, however they were quickly resolved with apologies. We were grateful for the immediate attention that were given to our concerns and how the owners were doing their best to accommodate. We had enjoyed our stay at the Crooked Inn and we will definitely return for our future visit to Cornwall. P.S. This is a dog friendly place and the owners three labradors are gorgeous. One of the most disappointing meals out for a long time. The unwelcoming staff and lack of customer service was just the start of an awful meal. Drinks slammed onto sticky tables, dirty / worn paper menus and it just got worse. After sending my first meal back, it was stone cold lasagna, I was given an over salted and quite revolting replacement slice of lasagna!! 3 out of the 5 meals we ordered were inedible. No one came to check our food was ok at any point. Staff showed little care that the food provided was revolting so we paid and left. Such a shame as we had enjoyed some lovely meals in the past. Avoid. So many better places to eat locally.

Poor service, average food. The barmaid spent about 15 minutes playing with her hair/ putting it up in the middle of the bar which is very unhygienic and also meant she was doing that rather than serving anyone. We didn’t have a booking and they sat us easily as it wasn’t busy but the menus they gave us were dirty. We ordered quickly and the staff were friendly, the food and drinks came out quickly. After we had been given our mains we were completely ignored, no one came to check that our food was okay (it wasn’t great and was overpriced) and we were waiting at least 10 minutes for our plates to be taken after and then we counted another 10 minutes and got up to go to the bar to pay as no one had come over. The staff served other tables around us and avoided eye contact. I work in a restaurant and understand that it’s hard to serve everyone equally but we would have ordered desserts if we had been given the chance. We also weren’t given the bill when we asked to pay so had no way to check what we were paying for. No one ever apologised to us and I wouldn’t recommend it.

But as we entered into the pub my instincts wanted me to turn around and go out again ! But my partner forever hopeful encouraged me to give it a try . I had crab salad it was 1 tablespoons of not fresh crab meat possibly the little plastic containers of white crab meat tasteless . Soggy salad on this apparently homemade bread really hard . My partner had seafood medley plastic potted shrimps or tin with a few strips of smoked salmon and soggy tired salad. We should have known as the conservatory was filthy dusty , cobwebs , sticky tables . Don’t bother stopping shocking food .

I was taken here for a treat by 2 friends. Walked through the lovely garden into the pub. Greeted by an indifferent waitress and shown to an indoor table in the main lub rather than the conservatory table we had booked. We were told that we could eat in the conservatory - the free tables hadn’t been cleaned and were sticky. We were asked what we would like to drink - there was no drink menu offered and the waitress seemed in a hurry so I ordered some wine, if I had realised they did rattler cider I would have had that instead.I ordered the scallop linguine - a huge portion of overcooked scallops on a bed of spaghetti in a rather cloying sauce. We weren’t offered a dessert menu.During the night I had a bad stomach and couldn’t stop going to the loo.So - nice place and setting, unfriendly waitress, indifferent food.

We had lunch here a couple of weeks ago and the food was just lovely. When we had friends over this weekend we suggested this place for a roast based on our previous visit… I was very disappointed that they do not offer a children’s portion roast and the only options are fried stuff with chips… sausages, chicken goujons, beef burger, fish… nothing that’s a proper meal with veg… When our roasts came out they smelled amazing and the vegetables were really crisp and fresh and the Yorkshire’s were pretty huge, thats the only positives really… at £14 it’s not exactly cheap and the quality just wasn’t there, gravy was watery, potatoes hard, cabbage was way to heavily seasoned with pepper, meat was nice once I got through all the fat…

The food here is really nice (we had carvery) although everyone in the party agreed it wasn't hot enough. We also hadn't realised that you had to go upstairs to choose it then carry back down the stairs and through the bar/restaurant, might be worth noting for anyone with mobility issues. I have to agree with previous reviewers that the overall feel is very tired. Many aspects of the venue feel promising but unfortunately don't quite meet the mark. The location is pleasant, the open fire pretty but yes, dusty. The conservatory should be much nicer but desperately needs a paint & a tidy-up. Small details do make a difference i.e not enough cutlery (restaurant only half full), dead flowers as table centrepiece and neglected vine hanging from ceiling. Not ideal first impressions. I suppose that sums it up. We had a nice enough time but the price just didnt match the details, ambience or service. It had the feel of a local pub but without the atmosphere and the menu/food of a restaurant but in a slightly grubby environment. We wouldn't go out of our way to return.

NOT WORTH THE EXTRA Pennies!!!However having said that if after 5 years of loyal usage we aren’t coming back, where the hell do we go??? No local alternatives. Food quality and service in east Cornwall is really really awful.PS ffs dust up the corners and around the window frames!!!!!!!!! Hygiene isn’t that hard folks. This has now become my local when I am down this way in business. Lovely and quiet with pleasant views and quirky surroundings. The rooms are great and the service and food fantastic. You are always created with a smile, shown to your room and given nice fresh milk. The locals are all friendly as well. Service is superb and food matches with my favourites being the garlic mushrooms, Fajitas or burger.Everything is so well priced as well. I will keep coming back to this hidden gem.

Ate here with my boyfriend, we literally stumbled upon the place after a quick google search of what restaurants were in the area, so thought we’d give it a go. It was lovely! Friendly service, excellent food, that was reasonably priced. Would highly recommend. Although they don’t do good between 4-5pm.

Ate there last night, one of our party had allergies and the staff were very careful to check ingredients for her. Atmosphere was clean, warm, welcoming, there was plenty of room too, not at all crowded. The food was first rate, especially the fish dishes, an ample amount on each plate and nicely hot. Didn’t take too long to arrive either.

Just about the best pasta I've eaten. They have a specials menu and occasionally they have a seafood linguine and this time it was scallop and prawn in a lobster sauce. Exceptional. Even Jeff liked it.

Beautiful setting, you have to drive in woods for a bit to get to this place. Large car park available. The place is dog friendly inside and outside the restaurant. The restaurant/pub is actually a hotel however there were lots of locals enjoying great food as well as holiday makers.

Have visited this pub a few times over the years. Always been good quality food. It is handily situated a few miles into Cornwall down a narrow drive off the main road.

I came to the Crooked Inn with my family on a sunday afternoon. We booked a table but decided we wanted to sit outside & the staff were more than fine with it. The park is lovely for children to run around in, with geese/ducks running around. Prices were a little more than your average pub grub but the food itself & service was fantastic. Massive portions though, we had starters as well as mains but think next time we’d just go for the main as we couldnt manage it all. Amazing fish & chips. Good value for money. Cant wait to visit again soon.

The staff are welcoming, the food is lovely with great variety. Prices do range from £8- £22 for a main. Great selection and nice specials. Beautiful looking pub, lovely inside and outside dinning. They do also have rooms for the night. Plenty of parking. Just a little hard to find the first time as it is down a long driveway which looks like a private road. Certainly worth the venture!

I always think under new management signs are hardly a recommendation. They usually mean a business isn’t doing too well and someone new, who isn’t doing too well where they are, has been brought in to “try something else”.

Very nice location, spacious and friendly. Food was tasty, but felt the bar drinks were overpriced (perhaps I’m out of touch!) One large glass wine, one small wine and soda, one large coke - £15.

We were lucky enough to come here on a gorgeous afternoon, we sat outside in the courtyard for lunch which was lovely. Food came very quickly after ordering at the bar, good value for money but be aware they are massive portions (couldn’t finish all of it). Food was really nice and would definitely return here. Loads of vegetarian options also.

Took my mother (85) for a lunchtime treat. Very clean, nicely decorated establishment. Open log fire, ideal, damp cold outside, spacious seating areas. A large conservatory area, light and bright, with plants, with views across countryside. There are ducks, geese and other natural wildlife around the outside areas, a good children's area, when dry, outside. Plenty of outdoor seating aswell. We ordered a homemade lasagne , which my mother thoroughly enjoyed and a gammon with all the trimmings. It was served fairly quickly, hot and fresh. A nice touch with the gammon was the slice of fresh pineapple and real potato chips, see pics. There is an upstairs area also for eating, a comprehensive menu at lunchtime, we arrived early and by the time we left I would say half full or more, a good sign. Staff very pleasant, will definitely return soon to try the other delights on the specials board.

We stayed for two nights just before last Christmas (apologies for late review) and with my wife and daughter shared the family room. This was very clean, spacious and comfortable and a very reasonable price with superb breakfasts. We ate there both evenings and every item we tried was excellent. Staff (and the owners' dogs) couldn't have been more friendly or welcoming. This was our third stay here and it will be our regular annual pre-Christmas treat. Cannot recommend the pub and its warm atmosphere too highly. PS if you like plastic pubs this is not for you - this is a taste of English service as it used to be!

We had a lovely meal this evening. My husband and I both enjoyed our meals. I chose from the specials board and had a beautifully cooked roast duck with roast veg and sauté potatoes. My husband chose the full rack of ribs. Don’t know how he finished it. The plate was huge! We both had sweets, me the chocolate fudge cake and him, the apple crumble. Both were gorgeous. Highly recommend and will definitely go again. Lovely open fire blazing away on a really cold night

Two of us had the stew which was very poor value .....little or no meat and small portion served in a soup bowl. In fact we both agreed that there would have been much more content in a can of soup! On reflection we should have complained and reordered something different. Overall, very disappointing experience given the picturesque setting and good real ale.

Suggest getting a calculator for by the till. We paid thought we were overcharged. Came back for a receipt or itemized bill did not have one. Although the same lady charging us as the one who had made our drinks. She was unaware of what we had ordered. Saying we had double the drinks we had actually received. Although this did not tally up with the amount we were overcharged. Food was not hot either. What a shame. Good thing was the fire

Parsnips was like chewing sticks. Yorkshire puddings was like the tongue of me work boots! Meat wasn't cooked to how I would of preferred... we got bad vibes from the chef,he wasnt veey polite at all! We will not be returning again too eat, disappointment really we left feeling mugged off! Shame as it could be a decent diner....

Booked to have a meal and a catch up with friends , first time for me at the pub even though I work and keep my horses in the area , very busy so best to book a table , food was lovely , desert choice was limited so went without though I was full so wasn’t too bothered about this , they forgot our tea and coffee but apologised and I’m guessing a manager came over with them and apologised again and deducted it from our bill, would happily go back , friendly staff , this is a country pub if you go there and look for faults like cob webs etc then yes you will probably find some , but if you want a nice pub , food and good view then this is perfect

Spent the afternoon looking for a decent dog friendly restaurant, after visiting two others in the area came across this one. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, the meals were of a good standard and we did not have to wait too long. The service here is poor, you can only order exactly what is on the menu as the meals are prepared with exact measures, so don't go being awkward asking for a different type of potatoes! 'Your choice of potatoes ' on the menu only only extends to chips or new. The food was just satisfactory and the feeling I got from the staff was that they didn't really care.

Having spent the day at mount Edgcumbe country house and estate and having to look for the nearest supermarket we travelled to Waitrose in Saltash. From there we wanted to have our evening meal and the app directed is to the Crooked Inn. The Inn seed to be well hidden and quite off the beaten track but we found a very warm welcome there an an excellent dinner. I enjoyed duck leg with plum sauce.

Four of us went for a meal. We were greeted by a man with a face like a kite! Two people ordered risotto, when it came the middle was hot, around the edges were warm! One had scampi tails, 6 tiny finger sized tails, a few chips in a tiny metal basket and a tiny bit of lettuce and tomato all served on a dirty board. The other meal was steak, it was served with a few chips in the metal basket, half a mushroom, the smallest portion of peas and a tiny bit of lettuce and tomato. Again served on a dirty board! We told the waiter our issues.....no response what so ever! We left feeling hungry and ripped off! We will never return again, there are far better places around.

We were on holiday and ended up eating here 3 times. We had our dog who typically was nervous in eating places so we never bothered eating out, we were given a table in the corner and asked for the same one every time which they obliged as she was settled, it helped that the staff were all so helpful and the food was so nice, would highly recommend the Pityme Inn and we will visit again, it made our holiday
