Work Christmas evening meal. Very warm welcome and great staff. Traditional pub food, scampi, ham egg & chips, lamb, guineafowl, cottage pie. Veggie option of mushroom, leek & lentil cottage pie was very tasty. Came with carrots and brocoli on the side which were disappointing. Carrots scraped, brocoli yellowing and on the turn so didn't eat. Honey Hill is a very quiet, dark country road and the pub is about half way down. It has a large carpark. It's in a residential area not near anything else.

Welcoming atmosphere on a cold winters evening with a packed bar area and lots of reserved signs in the restaurant. Getting into the pub was a bit uncomfortable as the gate from the car park was padlocked so we needed to walk along the road. Staff are friendly and efficient but need a bit more training in how to take orders and deliver food. Its been a while since we last visited and the food itself was very good but seemed more average pub food rather than the excellent food we have had in the past which made it feel expensive for what was being served. Deserts were a bit disappointing with the chocolate fondant being quite small whilst the banoffee pie was enormous and over sweet. Overall a good but not great experience.

I haven't actually been to this pub but I wanted to write a glowing review. I was looking to book a venue for a wake. Although we have now decided to go to a different place, Jo from the Crooked Billet was exceptionally communicative and left a couple of voicemails and followed up with an email. She wasn't pushy and was extremely compassionate given the circumstances, and really helpful. I'm exceedingly grateful and look forward to being able to come to the pub properly another time.

Came here for lunch after a spot of fruit picking at the local pick your own farm just up the road. Staff were friendly enough, and the food was brought to our table promptly. Plenty of seating inside and out, inside is lovely and cosy, can imagine it being lovely in the winter when the fire is roaring. I had the sausage sandwich, was very tasty but was probably a little overpriced at £11.50. Our kids enjoyed their nuggets, but again at £12 for a kids meal (with a free ice lolly that we forgot to ask for) it is very expensive for what it is. This may be the location. I would come back here as the pub is lovely and the food is decent quality, maybe next time for a proper evening meal.

Cold food. For the price it was like an end of the day dinner your mum would have saved for you. I had the beef, the Yorkshire pudding was burnt, all the veg was cold, gravy was cold, for the price it was really quite a sad affair. My last visit to the crooked billet a year ago was much better, I only assume they gave us the left over food, the potatoes were pretty dire. The waiter at the end, a young guy asked how it was and we said it was cold but I felt he was not prepared for us to be unhappy with our food. He took it badly that we complained but it was cold I am afraid. Another waitress I believe who was the manager said we ruined her day, my mum overheard her as we left, which felt a bit harsh , since all we did we ask for non burnt yorkshires, Complained about the fly issue (tons of flies sitting on our food) and there was a mistaken issue where I thought she’s cleared my sisters meal away but she hadn’t , which she seemed to take quite personally and I think the staff thought we were rude for it but when you spend £20 + on a roast I was just making sure it was not taken before my sister was finished. The staff made us feel like we were really hard customers when we’re a relaxed crowd, if they really wanted me to complain I would of defo refused to pay for what was really a very cold Mediocre roast. The one staff that wasn’t rude and nonchalant was a young girl who served us first who was lovely. But sadly she disappeared and was replaced by staff that lacked any customer service abilities.

Something is adrift at this previously popular Pub Restaurant. We have visited fairly regularly over many years but recently something has changed. The food remains good and there is an extensive menu although a little pricey. We have always pre-booked because at lunchtimes the restaurant has always been full, however on our two latest visits it has been nearly empty. For the price paid you expect a certain level of service and on our recent visit it was friendly as our geriatric group were consistently referred to as "Guys" which I feel is inappropriate. On our previous visit the waitress was hopeless and unsupervised, on both occasions although prompt it was amateurish. The management need to ensure that waiting staff are properly trained and know something about the menu before they commence work and that they treat customers with a bit more respect. Hopefully this is a temporary glitch and the reestaurant will up its game when we visit again.

It’s a lovely traditional pub without a TV screen in sight which is great plus! We used to frequent this place a lot over the years both for a drink or a meal. However, we stopped using the restaurant due to our disappointment with the general quality of food. We occasionally pop in for a drink, but the prices are ridiculously high compared to other pubs around Berkshire. Over £7 for a pint of Guinness, that’s higher than most London pubs.

Went for dinner with my wife for my first time at pub. Although service was good the food was poor. It may well have been a one off but it was if someone had spilt the salt cellar into my stake an ale pie meal. It was rank. Certainly not worth the £55. (Honestly would have preferred a 'spoons'.)

A warm welcome awaited our arrival. They stock Guinness 0.0 which is very sensible at this time of year. We all had starters - most opted for pate. It was a good serving with toast. Not too big to spoil one's appetite but very satisfying and tasty. Then the main event was Christmas lunch. Often people express delight nowadays by saying wow! In my case, the Turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, gravy, sausage, red cabbage ALL got WOW! The meal was superb, made even better by friendly service and attention to detail. I can highly recommend this venue and the service staff were very upbeat - THANKS.

Visited with my family and parents for my birthday. Facilities and staff were good but the food was disappointing. Garlic bread starter was incredibly hard - a real tooth breaker! My son had his drink spilled over him by the table staff, but these things happen and it didn’t bother him too much. The real issue was the main course. Three of us had chips with our meal which were borderline inedible due to way too much salt added by the kitchen. To be fair we didn’t mention this to the staff so they had no opportunity to correct it. Desserts were much better and saved the meal. Based on this visit i’m not sure I would go back again if I were looking to eat out.

Staff were polite & friendly enough, but as soon as we walked in, it lacked any warmth. Felt like the owners had rented it for an event, all staff had coats and caps on - very temporary! Must be new owners? Arrived expecting lunch, but was advised only serving lunch from 1;30, so we were happy to wait with a drink . When 1;30 arrived we asked again, and asked for a menu at which point he said they could do pizzas, and showed me the choice on his phone? hardly the food shown on previous reviews. Pizza arrived with no cutter, so we had to use knife and fork. Not the best experience to be honest.

Whilst a nice country pub to stop off at whilst walking the dogs, the drinks prices are extortionate. £5.60 for a run of the mill, non premium Fosters Lager. Peroni is around the £7 mark. I'm not surprised there were not many people there, maybe they were all in central London where you'll probably pay less for your drinks. Advice to management, know your market, have a look at the prices your close competitors are charging otherwise you will find they start frequenting other pubs.

Visited on a Sunday for lunch. The food was excellent . We ordered roast beef and a fish pie. The beef was pink but tasty served with a good selection of vegetables including a small dish of cauliflower cheese. The fish pie had a good ratio of fish to potato with a wide selection of fish. The portion of apple and rhubarb crumble was generous! The restaurant was full so booking is essential at weekends. It was also rather noisy but not so much that it was difficult to hear each other. Service was good with a caring maitre d' even though she was taking time to train a new member of staff. Admittedly the Crooked Billet is my local but I would certainly recommend it.

We had ham, egg and chips. Average meal. Unfortunately we ordered desserts which was a big and costly mistake. The peaches and raspberry crumble was sent back first time because half the peach was hard. Second time round the skin was still on the peach which made it difficult to eat. A few raspberries and a sprinkling of crumble burnt on the top. Cost £8.50. I ordered the chocolate and orange sponge. Still cold and dry so I sent it back. Second time round was no different. I would say it tasted like a cheap supermarket chocolate cake thing. The chef had cut a bit off the top and put orange marmalade on it and put the cover on. It was horrible. I thought it would be chocolate and orange sponge home baked. Complained again but the manager didn't come out to deal with it so we just left. Unfortunately we had prepaid for the desserts. I highly recommend not to prepay for anything. We won't be going back.

We used to frequent this pub quite a bit and there was a great menu selection. We were very disappointed on our recent visit here. The menu choice was not great, we struggled to choose something. The rib-eye steak at £26. something just was not an option. The food seems to have been compromised and you have hiked up your prices. I know the chicken liver pate didn't say homemade but it didn't even taste like chicken liver, it tasted like a mundane coarse pork pate that you buy from the supermarket and at the price of £9 or so was disgraceful. The beefburger again was not described as homemade but it wasn't even a beefburger more like a findus or birdseye processed something and certainly was not worth £15.95. The safety measures in place post corona virus pandemic was good with a one way system and tables at least a metre apart and all table service so well done on that aspect. Wasn't keen on the new communal toilets, don't think that is necessary. Based on the quality and choice of food we won't return and wouldn't reccommend.

Good food. When we were there liver was on the menu which two of us fancied. We asked if it could be served pink. The waitress went to ask the chef who said he didn't normally but he could. Whilst it didn't come served pink it was very tender and there was plenty of it. I did think it was a bit odd that it wasn't cooked as it should have been. When we came to puds one of us ordered jam roly poly. We expected it to be like a Swiss roll but it was just a separate pudding with a tiny bit of jam in it but a dollop on top.

It was decided to revisit this pub after at least 10 years. We had a pleasant welcome and were seated in the not very busy restaurant. After a seemingly long wait, we received our drinks and a food menu. We watched other diners arrive and get served and still we waited! Eventually we were able to catch the eye of the waitress. As usual, I specified my request for no black pepper or chilli on or near my food.Well, one of my dishes had so much black pepper in it that it didn't take too long for my lips to swell - free botox!!! The waitress said she would tell the chef, but the vegetables were prepared and seasoned in advance. Fast forward to dessert - the roasted plums with a crumble topping were cold ( as was the plate). These then got microwaved to heat them. The pub has plenty of seating and a large car park.Overall, it was a disappointing experience and it will probably be another 10 years before I return.

Nice traditional pub. Food was very good but service a little slow. However, it was busy. Food was nicely presented and the pub was clean.

Visited today on one of my trips home from abroad. I was really disappointed to see very low cleaning standards, filthy tables, unclean floor, dirty and worn upholstery on chairs and benches. Unfortunately it looks unloved and uncared for and not what it used to be. Further disappointed that two of the three real ales I tried were off.

My family and I had lunch at The Crooked Billet yesterday. The first course was very good, but the main meal was terrible, My fish and chips was the worst I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. The fish was cooked for so long that is was impossible to cut and, more to the point eat, because it was rock hard.

This is a very popular pub that we went to for an evening meal. The service was good, and the food was also. The shrimp and crayfish cocktails were delicious. My only criticism would be that the spatchcock was a bit dry. However a good night out.

The billet has gone down hill lately with regard to over cooked food and sloppy service ! Being told when we complained! That the chef agreed that the food should not of been served !!

It's been sometime since we last ate at the Crooked Billet and judging by our experience of Sunday lunch here today it could be some while before we return. We had pre booked our table, as it seemed had most of the other diners other than those people in the garden. It was busy so we appreciated that there could be a short wait for our food to arrive, however at no point did anyone come over to apologise for the delay, explain how long it might be or even ask if we required more drinks. When the food did eventually arrive most of us were happy with our meal choices although I would say that the fish dish did look very dry and overcooked as though it had been standing for sometime! Because we had waited so long that person decided not to make any comment about their meal as this would only have delayed lunch even further which was a real shame. Still at no point was an apology forth coming from the waiting staff for the delay and once we'd settled the bill we left feeling very underwhelmed! Sorry to say.

Today we arrived at the pub at 12.30pm. A waitress took our drinks order which took a little while to arrive. Then she disappeared and no-one came to take our food order. Other patrons arrived and we realised they were all being served so I asked a waitress to take our order. It took until 1.45pm before any food was served-we were all very hungry by then. The food was good, the lack of service wasn't. Needless to say no tip was left.

Jo and her team catered for a large party to help us celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. The staff could not have been more helpful - from the planning stage through to the actual event. The food was plentiful and absolutely delicious - we have received so many positive comments about the quality of the catering that I just have not the space to quote them all.

Really disappointing to find our usual good experience was let down by incredibly slow service - well over an hour to serve main course and when food arrived quality was very poor. Food was over cooked and tasteless. Shame because historically we have enjoyed our regular Sunday lunches.

Have been many times, food usually very good. Waitress Kaya was lovely - friendly & helpful. Only down side the 'wine offer' we were using did not include my preferred dry rose so we had a dry white instead.

My wife and I saw an advert on our local community group saying this establishment was doing very good fish and chips for take away. On the group site people were saying this cost £7:50 each for fish&chips but you had to order in advance. My wife wife placed an order and on the other end of the phone it sounded like an old lady taking the order, she was very abrupt and wasn’t listening to what was being asked and just kept talking over what my wife was trying to ask. Anyway we eventually placed our order. When we arrived to pick it up my wife went into the side entrance and went to pay, the old lady was quite rude and said it was £8:50 each, when my wife said that on the local page it everyone was saying £7:50. She just brushed it off and said she didn’t know about that, my wife only had £15 in cash and as we had only ordered for 2 this is all she had. There were dogs running around the area as well not very hygienic. The price appears to change depending on who you are as my wife went back to the local group and the members are still saying they pay £7:50. First and last time using this pub takeaway the fish and chips were a small portion for the price.

Lovely place, looks fab since the refurb, amazing outdoor space, so much seating areas. Staff were friendly and welcoming, only reason I have given 3 star is because myself and my husband ordered the tex mex sharer which was supposed to have sweet chilli sauce but instead came drizzled with the ipa hot sauce meaning my husband who dislikes spicy food couldn't eat it. We did check the menu which definatley stated sweet chilli sauce. Unfortunatley we didn't have time to send back and reorder as it was a quick stop half way through a long journey and we needed to move on to avoid bad traffic. Other than that small disappointment the place is lovely and we would still return.

Went for a Sunday roast, the staff were nice, the atmosphere was good but the food was terrible! Probably the worst Sunday roast we’ve had with no taste and not great quality for the price! Unfortunately I don’t think we’d go back again…

Great place Much improved Lovely new landlords Would never have gone here before due to it's reputation but heard it was refurbished and had clean beer and glasses and no longer full of unsociable types. A credit to Wokingham If they can get a menu going it will be the making of the place. Regardless, a good place for a drink and a game of pool now.
