We stayed & ate here, firstly I'll review the food ... we had Sunday lunch n the only minor criticism like previous reviews have mentioned the beef was a little 'chewy' .... but everything else on the plate was incredibly flavoursome & the pork belly was absolutely top notch!! ... plus you get 10% off food & drink if you stay there, As for the overnight stay .... it was clean, comfortable ,& cheap compared to other hotels in the area.. but we were next to the road & you could hear lots from outside but with earplugs in it was ok .... also the walls are very thin, not the taphouses fault it's just the way these old buildings are but we could hear everything that next door was 'ahem' doing in the morning .

Whist travelling Shropshire + with reviews , tried cromwells tap house shrewsbury for Sunday lunch.....smelt delicious . Arrived with all trimmins. The enjoyment stopped there. The beef was like rubber , when finally did cut a piece , endless chewing + spat it out. This same experience was also same with my wife. Told waitress , didn't come back with reaction ? Over priced to what you get. Dissapointing.

We stayed the night in the Cromwell Tap House for a work trip. The pub was nice, and the building was gorgeous, but the room was small, the toilet was broken, there was mould in the shower, and the mattress was probably the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on.

Stayed here last month as it is cheap and centrally located. We received a friendly welcome from the staff and the room was pretty clean considering it needs completely redecorating. The price really did reflect the room. It's basic but fairly comfortable. Noise can be heard from both the road and the pub downstairs. Definitely would not want to stay here at the weekend - don't imagine it would be pleasant. We had a couple of drinks in the pub, which were also just average.

The service in the bar & restaurant was excellent. The food amazing. The stay part wasn’t good. The hotel is on a busy road, so you expect traffic noise. It’s not helped though, when the main sash window won’t close, and is stuck at least a quarter open. Although a thin piece of secondary glazing has been fixed on the inside, it doesn’t help with the noise. Especially early in the morning when deliveries arrive, and the recycling lorry. The bed is in desperate need of a new mattress, it dips completely in the middle. Absolutely no good for two people to sleep in. We got no sleep at all. We are surprised that this hadn’t been mentioned in other reviews, but have seen that there is a second account under the Cromwell Inn, which mentions similar points. Eat, drink but don’t stay…

What can I say, the food here is amazing! As a party of 8 walking in off the street it’s not uncommon to get sketchy food (at differing intervals) as the kitchens struggle to produce it all. it's not a tap house, we went in there for drinks and it's more like a restaurant there was not loads of choice of beer either, nothing that i like anyway. it's an odd atmosphere for a Friday night they had a due performing but as everyone else were eating their dinner no one really got involved with the music (the duo weren't very good either.) it was like trying to have a pint in a harvester with very loud 90's music being played which all the diners are having to shout over. We had our cider and headed off to a pub

There’s an option for Sunday Lunch and I highly recommend it. The roast beef and pork belly were amazing with all of the Sunday roast trimmings. The portion was just right, meaning really generous, but the perfect thing was that the amount wasn’t sloppy like you get in so many pub Sunday dinners. Meat cooked to perfection, not overdone, veg with texture and crunch, not turned to mush, everything seasoned beautifully, the gravy just enough to have a little on each bite. Service the best as always. I never did review the place before but I can vouch for the fish and chips, the burgers, the beers, the quality of every part of this business. I was inside today but check out the beer garden. Gets sun all day like in summer, with views of the church spires and old rooftops of the nearby Alkmund’s square. Guinness was immaculate, but I could have easily gone for a Three Tuns or an ale from further afield in the regularly updated guest selection. Always something new to try. Check out Cromwell’s for some of the best pub classics done in a fresh, bar/restaurant style. Little touches make the dishes unique. A little cinnamon(?) on the side veg with my roast. Curried bacon (optional) on the otherwise classic burger. These flavours might be love-it-or-hate-it but they make for a signature taste that sets this tap house apart from the other venues around it serving British favourites.

At no point during or after our meal were we asked “was everything with your meal ok?” The only good thing about this was we came during the eat out for less scheme, had this been full price i would have been charged in excess of £60 including the drinks.... We enjoyed a family meal on a Monday evening during EOTHO.The service was very good throughout and we were well looked after by the young blonde lady in charge.Order taken quickly and starters were soon to arrive. My wife had the soup of the day, which was tomato with lemon and chill, very tasty but perhaps a little spicy for her. My halloumi involved only two pieces but was nicely accompanied by a small salad and a few beans. A small teriyaki sauce or the like would have really set this off.Burgers in the main course were substantial for two of us. Accompanied by chips. Very tasty too!My wife had the beetroot risotto which she thoroughly enjoyed. We were all to full for a pudding which is a good sign of a substantial meal.I would just add that by comparison with other restaurants the prices are slightly expensive. Not a problem with EOTHO though!

This is our second visit to Shrewsbury and The Cromwell Inn was on Travel Zoo a a special offer, so the four of us thought that we would like to visit Shrewsbury again. There is no parking here, so we were able to stop outside and drop off our bags, we were greeted in a very friendly manner, and apparently here they have an agreement with a local hotel down the road with regards to parking your car. So off we went and booked in our car at this place, and with a very short walk back up the road we were booking into the Cromwell Inn.We were shown to our rooms, they were quirky and individual, although mine was on the front, I can honestly say that I did not find it noisy, but to take into account that this is a Thursday and in February, but again on saying this the hotel is not what I would call a passing place. The only observation I would make about the room I had was that there is a step going into the bathroom, which I did trip up in the night when going there in the dark!!!! I am sure that the owners could look at this, the room was lovely, and as I realised a bit later on, the hotel is a work in progress, as it had not long been taken over. My friend said her room was lovely and very comfortable. We headed downstairs to the bar and had a few drinks, what was nice was that if you stayed at the hotel you were given 10% off your drinks, a nice touch we thought. We then went out. We ventured back to get changed for dinner, which we had booked elsewhere before we came, on saying that, their menu looked lovely, so maybe on a future visit to Shrewsbury we will try it. We had a couple of drinks then off we went.We came back just after 10 p.m. to discover that we had to let ourselves in with the front door key given to us, and the bar was closed, now coming from a small village in Lancaster, and it not being a weekend, I can see this as trade can be slow in the winter and on week nights, so we were okay about it, but it would have been nice to have been told this.A comfortable night was had by us all, and a beautifully cooked breakfast the next morning, an excellent breakfast menu with plenty of variety.I wish these new patrons good luck in their venture, they are working hard to make it work, they have lovely personalities and we will be back.

Had lunch here with a friend on a busy Saturday. Planned to go somewhere else but for some reason everwhere was rammed! This is a very pretty wine bar/pub; very old building tastefully restored. Not all that big; tables not on top of each other; warm and cosy on a cold February day.The menu is very interesting; a real change from typical pub fare. Two of had chilli con carne which was very different - pieces of meat rather than the usual mince, and a touch of dark chocolate in the sauce. The meat was 70% of the dish rather than the usual 50/50 between it and the rice so much better value. My wife (the Veggie!) had a sandwich with chargrilled butternut squash and chick peas in a curry-flavoured sauce. A bit hard to eat as a sandwich - probably better in a wrap ? However it came with a delicious salad; wife ate it all which is unusual for her.Drinks-wise a pint of Salopian was on song.Overall a great recommendation.

OK - the room (No. 5) was very comfy, the bar and restaurant area very pleasant, the service excellent, the dinner menu offered a good variety and the prices were acceptable. However there were a few things that niggled us: a bizarre take on the French classic coq au vin; we couldn't tell if the room had been serviced after our first night (coffee cups unwashed etc); the poor selection of breakfast cereals, no yogurt and no offer of toast at breakfast and, lastly the cleanliness of the gents toilet was slightly sub-standard. Little things but a bit of attention to detail would have improved our experience a lot.

Called in for the first time on a Saturday whilst we were shopping. It's only small inside, but that makes it cosy. The food is extremely good quality for a pub and would rival many restaurants I have been to. Add a friendly manager and a very large beer garden split over two levels, we will be calling back for sure. My wife and I only had a steak sandwich- they were fabulous and the chips were perfect. The couple on the next table had ordered off the main menu, the food was very well presented and they said tasted as good as it looked.

Visited Shrewsbury for the first time with a group of friends. Searched on the internet for ‘best Sunday lunch in Shrewsbury town centre’ and found Cromwells Inn. Luckily it didn’t disappoint, the food was delicious and a special mention goes to the gravy. We had roast beef and roast turkey and both were very well cooked. They cater for Gluten Free as well so all in all a successful find and would highly recommend!

As anyone who's read any of my other reviews will know, I'm a great believer in Sunday lunch being a good test of a restaurant and Cromwells does not disappoint. We ate here with friends who are quite particular in what they want and how they want it and all of their requirements were met. We had the roast beef which was juicy and tasty, the roast potatoes were crunchy, Yorkshires light and puffy and the vegetables plentiful.

Visited on Monday evening with a maximum of 10 other covers in situ when we arrived shortly after seven pm. Took over 10 minutes to get menus and order drinks! Food was nicely presented if a little slow to appear; assume the kitchen was on minimum staffing and if not would dread to think how long it would take on a busy evening!

Everything from the surroundings, service and food was absolutely first class. We were in Shrewsbury for the Annual Flower Show and taken by friends to Cromwell's for a 'Light Lunch'. We all choose different and all of us were very pleased with our choice.

I took my wife out for a birthday lunch and whilst the outside courtyard was very nice and the sirloin steak sandwiches of good quality, the service was appalling. We eventually had to go to the bar to order as no-one had approached, even for a drinks order, after nearly 20 minutes. Then when our food arrived the waitress had forgotten cutlery, napkins and condiments, which took her 7 or 8 minutes and even then she'd forgotten the salt and pepper. So by the time we started to eat, our food was almost cold. As we had paid around £34 for a sandwich and a drink, we had expected the service to be much better.

At last a place which manages rare and well done roast beef. I had pink roast beef done to a turn with good home made gravy. Partners pork was good. Ordered cauliflower cheese not realising one of the veg was the same. Very good home made horse radish. Only criticism the roast potatoes were not crisp at all. The pudding was less successful only good. Strawberry and apple crumble Strawberries do not work well in this dish.

Had a wonderful stay here for two nights (Friday 19th-sun 21st July). We had the four poster room which was beautiful looking out onto the front. We even received a complementary drink from the bar on our arrival. The breakfast was gorgeous and accommodated my request which wasn’t on the menu. All staff attentive with money off food & drinking when showing your key. The outside area bear garden was delightful!

Visited yesterday afyernoon and was disappointed. We sat in the garden, which was fairly quiet, but a lot of the tables were full of empty glasses and plates, which wasn't nice. The inside wasn't busy either, so I'm not sure why it hadn't been cleared. We were planning to eat lunch here, but the menu is now limited and a bit boring compared to what it used to be like, so we went elsewhere after trying but failing to get more drinks, with a wait of 10 minutes at an empty bar. Loos need a good clean, particularly the hand dryer, which was obviously dirty. It's been a little while since I last visited and I understand it's now under new management. It used to be a great place, so hopefully it improves.

We had lunch at Cromwell’s on a Tuesday lunchtime with friends. The pub was not busy with diners. Initial drink and food ordering was good, but went downhill. Food was good overall, but the halloumi burger was tasteless and tough. Fish and chips, plus ham eggs and chips were good. Sweet ordering took a while and the waitress had to keep returning to the reception to be able to answer our questions and queries. Maybe she was new and we do her a disservice. Crumble of the day was OK but the chocolate brownie was not something to recommend. However, when we came to pay, the staff ignored us in favour of persons who had walked in and were checking in to accommodation. It took longer than was acceptable to get the bill. The senior member of staff apologised when this was pointed out and gave a 10% off voucher for future visits. We won’t be going back.

Ordered a couple of burgers, a steak and a chicken sandwich with my friends. £50 for the lot so expectations are reasonably high.all the food was served with no cutlery. Chicken 'sandwich' was literally just salad on a plate. We told the waitress who took it away and returned with the exact same meal just placed onto one singular slice of bread. Yeah great sandwich mate . One burger was requested with no relish, however the staff hadn't bothered to check which one was which. Not the worst experience in the world but when you pay 8 quid for a sandwich you expect more than a plate full of salad and Wetherspoons esque service.

Cromwells is a nice, comfortable pub with friendly and efficient staff, but the food was very disappointing. I had what was described as a six ounce steak which seemed to be nearer four with a serving of pretty tired fries. My wife had a chicken and bacon salad which seemed to contain virtually none of these ingredients apart from one piece of dry chicken and a few match stick strips of ham. It was lucky that neither of us were very hungry and it certainly wasn't cheap. There are much better places to eat in Shrewsbury.

Wot's cooking is a great place to sit in and get a nice fish and chips. Located in the heart of oswestry. It's located near a post office and even a betting shop, it has plenty around it. The staff are friendly and they are really generous with portions. What's cooking deserves to be on a seaside location really, but it serves well in oswestry. It's cozy in there too, there's been a few times where I've had a meal sitting in there as its been raining outside. So if your in oswestry and fancy some food, get yourself some chips from wot's cooking and enjoy their service!

We had a great lunch here. The atmosphere and service was friendly, welcoming and relaxing. The local beer was outstanding and the food very nicely cooked, delicious and good value. There were plenty of options of where to sit and our dog was also made to feel at home. Shame we were driving or we would happily whiled away the hours here forgetting time and troubles! Hope to return again soon.

A cloudy, cold, damp Monday in Shropshire and happy for it! We wandered around the shops, the charity shops and then it was lunch time and into The Hippodrome we did go. Quiet, not busy, lots of seating to choose from. Ordered drinks at the bar and then selected 3 items from the "3 for..." selection. Chicken Wings are SO good! Chips hot, crispy and delicious. The Pizza? Underdone, mushy crust...wanted hubby to send it back but he just carried on and ate the bits that he could. Not an outstanding meal at a Wetherspoons but it suited our needs for the day. Wetherspoons is in the midst of lots of special deals and you just can't beat the prices.
