Fast service. Chips are decent. Bit on the pricey side, but still good.

Sorry but this place has gone down hill . We bought pork with mushrooms which was'nt too bad apart from the scappy chips. The week after beef and mushroom totally different , the beef tasteless pale/yellow looking , tasteless and totally different recipe. Seems to change from week to week. Been going for many years , but sorry no more .

Ordered some chips for lunch on our way back home from the beach. Waited for chips which is fine, they looked yummy and were piping hot when we ate them. However despite how lovely they looked, they tasted of fish and were still hard in the centres, undercooked, not pleasant and needless to say, a massive waste of £5, cash only as well for reference. I'm sure there are better places to buy a portion of chips from.

Service was bad and they forgot the fish - pretty disappointing. The food we did get was okay but nothing special

Well - to put it bluntly it’s this was the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had in my entire life! Dripping with oil and uncooked batter. More batter than fish. Old dry chips - let me not get started on the spring rolls - flavourless and soggy. The mushy peas were bright green and tasted awful. I wouldn’t order from this chippy if it was my last supper

Only had steak pie and chips pie in my opinion was warm up from lunch time .. dried up and rock hard .. portion of chips small but ok Also expensive Will not be going back unless desperate

What can I say, not to over exaggerate, but the Crispy Cod was surprisingly the most delicious chippy I’ve ever had. The chicken was cooked to perfect order and had no complaints with my kids. The vegetables didn’t feel fake and chunky like they usually do in other places. And the portion sizes were absolutely perfect for the price. Please PLEASE take into consideration this chippy as you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was and take this on for who knows how long. 5 STARS! (Also forgot to add chips were very yummy as well)

Used a couple of times recently on Sunday afternoons whilst visiting family. Staff were efficient. Food was very nice and still piping hot after the 10 minute drive home. Good range of dishes available on the menu, something to suit everyone.

I had a disappointing experience at this fish and chip shop. The customer service was lacking, and the staff's attitude was unhelpful and unfriendly. Upon arrival the staff took a call from a customer who’d clearly missed something off their order. They proceeded to comment that this customer (who must be a returning customer) always forgets to order things. The irony of it is, the staff missed 2 things from my order which in itself was a task to order. The food when they got it right was okay. I will not be back.

Has this place changed hands? It’s been our go to for a couple of years but there’s a sudden noticeable drop in quality. Gristly ribs, bland curry and different pitta breads. Will need to find an alternative

We just called by for some chips and scollops. Very friendly staff and well cooked chips.

The food was OK. What really stood out to me though was how terribly the owners speak to their staff members! I was honestly disgusted. There was a young lad (long hair) there and a young girl (brunette) and they were both spoken to like they were pieces of trash. The woman owner (50s blonde hair sour face) was making nasty remarks to and about the guy.. she misheard what he asked her to get and she had a go at him making out it was his fault calling him useless. I quickly put her straight; that it was her who didn't listen to him properly and she still blamed him. She started slating him to me saying he's worked there for a year and is useless.. the young woman was also receiving a telling off publicly from the older woman and she looked really upset. Talk about a hostile work environment! So to be fair I'm not bothered about how the food tasted I would never go back here purely based on how hostile the owner/manager was to her staff! I told the young guy to run a mile! He was so lovely and polite to all customers too while she was proper sour faced and mean looking. Uurgh. Avoid if you have standards.. Food was OK.. we had chips and sausges, nothing crazy.

We had guests visiting who wanted a Chinese takeaway so we ordered a banquet for four people, the meal arrived approx 45 minutes later even though we were told 20-30 minutes, the meals were hot but were made of poor quality ingredients and were very salty, adding more salt to our injury the portion sizes were very odd, why would you only give your 'banquet for four' customers 6 small pieces of ribs, 6 small stodgy spring rolls and 6 miniscule pancakes for the overcooked duck? I was quite embarrassed for my guests who were very diplomatic about wasting their money and politely said, "how does four go into six equally?"

In getting my lunch from this shop for three weeks now the owner is very pleasant and his food is top quality was there today and got another lovely meal from him will be back there tomorrow lunchtime for another meal

Place is good. Food is average. They don't accept card you have to pay cash 😒.

Chips were soggy and full of oil, threw them away. Fish was also oily and stuck to the paper, only giving two stars as peas were nice

What a night! It was a dream night and it require several parts of the puzzle to come together. An amazing meal put together by Crispy cod for 10 people. We all enjoyed it and looking forward to another dream night including Crispy Cod. We decided to have a swift pint while waiting and to our amazement, James chased us to the pub to ask what toppings we wanted on the kebab. Joe's fault for running out before they could ask. What a service. 10 out of 10 to James.

We have had many good meals from Crispy Cod over many years, some just ok. However on the last three occasions the price has not matched that quoted on their paper menu (which we always update regularly). BEWARE THE PRICES ON THE PAPER MENU HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED SINCE AT LEAST JUNE 2022.! When collecting our meal and asking why it differed I was referred to the menu on the wall ( which I can’t see from home!). As I only collected the latest menu 2 weeks ago I asked for them to be remotes they misrepresented the cost. Response : we just work here! Nil point for service folks! Very disappointing!

Just had a lovely Chinese takeaway. Yes, it's a pain that it's cash only but it's worth it as it was one of the best deliveries we've had recently.

Arrived here after returning home from holiday at 9 pm. Ordered 2 fish and 1 chips. Fish cooked fresh. Excellent. Shop was clean and tidy. Staff friendly.

Chips are lovely. Staff are lovely and the food is great . They also offer a delivery service. Although you do have to spend over £10 , the delivery drivers are lovely

Food is consistently OK. The chippy food is better than the greasy Chinese offering. But the fact that it's "cash only" is a massive res flag.

Take out only. Fish is cooked to perfection and really tasty. Burgers are juicy and tender with limited grease - selection of sauces with or without salad. Chinese takeaway exactly what was expected. A good array of culinary delights 😊Pizza and Kebabs too. There are no deserts on the menu.

Stopped here after a walk on the beach. Asked for small chips open, got medium chips wrapped. Chips like bark chippings. Just shy of 8 hrs later food poisoning.

Salt and pepper chips were excellent, a meal in themselves. Slightly disappointed not to see any tofu dishes in the Chinese section but the chips were excellent. And I'd say consistently excellent after a return visit.

Stopped here as it was the first chippy we found after leaving the beach. Glad we did. The portion was generous and tasted great. Some benches outside and some seats inside. We had a large fish and chips and shared between two. Fantastic.

My family have been going to the crispy cod for 5 years and today, I went to pick up an order while taking the dog for a walk. As I walked in, I was told that dogs aren’t allowed in a very brusk manner, I asked if there was somewhere to ‘park the dog’. At this point the ‘lady’ that looks like Bett Midler just started raising her voice and told me it’s ‘just as well there’s no other customers in’. I paid for my order and said I was disappointed by the ongoing ‘telling off’ I was getting, I was still being shouted at, as I left and other staff looked sucked. I will not be going to the crispy cod again.

We ordered four meals this evening, one was king prawn garlic and chilli. The prawns were chewy and immediately after eating my daughter was violently sick, having felt fine all day. I called to inform the Crispy Cod, thinking it would be best to let them know so that they could stop serving these prawns and avoid poisoning other customers. They informed us without apology that they had sold lots of these dishes today and not had any complaints. This may be the case but those customers may be yet to ring, or may be too embarrassed to. Either way, a poor response to giving food poisoning to a customer. We are locals, it was our first time visiting the Crispy Cod. We will not be going back.

The worst fish and chips I have ever been to. Don't do kebabs and Chinese food if you can't even perfect fish and chips.

Really disappointed with the service. Told 45 mins delivery. Driver arrived 30mins, said he'd been waiting 15 minutes outside the property, really aggressive , saying he could of made 3 more deliveries! Food OK but expensive! When phoned to complain, they said we are so busy at this time and apologised as we are all so stressed out???

Quick friendly service from this fish and chip / Chinese takeaway. Modest prices with huge servings. Unfortunately very little available for vegetarians. Always seems to be open, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Just popped in for a little chicken chow mien as you do, what a mistake that was, literally dryer than ghandis flip flop with all the flavour of said flip flop as well.

Food ok, although sometimes can be a bit greasey. My main issue is the attitude of a member of the staff (don't know her name). On a number of occasions when ordering, I've had to repeat certain items only to be told by the girl on the phone that I hadn't ordered that particular dish in a very condescending manner. I understand phone lines can be a bit funny from time to time, but to basically argue with a customer over what were ordering is not good customer service.

Mistake going here... Feel sick after eating it. Batter was like greasy leather, chips soggy although saw them fresh come out of fryer. Just shows how poorly cooked... Only good thing are potatoes didn't have eyes in them.

Only giving one star as I have to. The last 3 visits have been worst experience ever at a chippy. I put it down to a one off however after 3 times of misery I have to put a review. Awful customer service every time. The food was awful and did not put lid on curry properly which spilt everywhere. 2 other chippys in formby so will never go back. Was always a very good chippy but really has gone to rats dropping. Shame really and my advice is go to one of the other ones in the area.

Nice chips ...but not big portions.

Food wasn't good, chips were pale and undercooked, fish was ok, children's menu chicken nuggets and chips were not good. Looked unappetising, but we were very hungry, still could not eat that much of it. Service was good/reasonably fast though, it was also very expensive considering the low quality of the food.

We visited after a trip to Formby Beach, 15 mins before they were due to close. You would usually expect 15 mins before close the food to be a little old but it was so hot and fresh. The staff were nice and polite and the place looked very clean. I haven't had a chippy lunch in years due to not particularly liking them but really enjoyed the food from here.
