Crispins in Medway

Update to my review earlier this year, glad to say their back on track, crispy batter moist fish, good crunchy chips, loverly mushy peas. Buzzing Friday evening crowd great service great food reasonable price, thank you all coming back again and again, keep up the standard. Sorry no photos had to devour it!!

Have to say one of the best for chips in Medway. 1 Portion easily enough for 2 to share, pukka pies need I say more and fish is 9 out of 10 times spot on. Admittedly they don't do the X large anymore which was something else but a large is large!

I’ve been coming to Crispins in Twydall for more than 40 years. Their service has always been friendly while professional. Their food is generous, tasty and of course hot. I thoroughly recommend them.

Superb freshly cooked fish and the best chips I’ve had in ages! Lots of regular customers when I was there but the service was prompt and friendly. A proper neighbourhood chippie!

The worst fish I’ve ever had dry!!! Fish was so thin that cooked to death chips were lovely !!!! I just paid £11.50 for a bag of chips fish was inedible 😡😡

A local but excellent fish and chips shop. Caters for individual takeaways and also prebooked boxes including delivery. Always fresh hot snd plentiful chips!

Crispins has been our go-to place for fish and chips for longer than I care to remember. Usually the food is excellent but last week we ordered 2 pieces of cod which when we got home we found to be very poor quality. It had dried out (obviously been cooked some time earlier and left in the heated cabinet) and the actual fish inside the batter was almost non-existent. Hopefully just an isolated incident.

Standards seemed to have slipped at this once stellar chippie. Greasy chips, some look refried and dark. Battered sausage has been left in the fry too long and underneath and heat lamp for some time. I couldn't even eat it all 😭

The fish and chips from here are the best in the area. Whoever reviewed this place as terrible wouldn't know good food if it slapped them in the chops. The staff are rightly militant when it comes to mask wearing when entering the shop - nice to see a business taking everything so seriously. Eat food from here and you won't be disappointed!

Crispin fish and chip shop in Twydall is the best in Medway, the staff are great and there is ample parking.

I came here for some fish and chips for the family and have been many times. Today, the fish and chips were overcooked, made with poor quality potatoes and the oil smelt old. I won't be returning as I can see other people saying the same thing. What I had today was truly awful.

Just got a bag of chips to have with ham and eggs and could hardly find any nice ones at all They where over cooked ,hard and the eyes still in some of them How can they serve them up like this maybe warmed up from lunchtime they where horrible even my dog turned his nose up

Absolutly shocked at the quailty of the cooking , I would say its safe to say its not normal oil being used for the cooking it leaves the chips dry and hard . Chips should be golden brown these however are like being cooked old used motor oil The food is dry tasteless and tough Time for a new chip shop Cant blame covid for this better to close than serve **** even the Dog wouldnt eat it and he licks his own bum

staff always friendly, and get to know you as a person, chips are out of this world , and the same for the fish, kebab or whatever you order, so clean , have never had an issue and ive been going there for many many years.

We have been going here for years always busy but service very quick always a good banter to be had and even when its very busy waiting time is not long due to the efficientcy of the great staff.First class fresh fish and chips.NB other food available too

The chips here are always good, reasonable price and staff are always friendly.Fish is always good , not as greasy as other fish shops.

My local chip shop for over 20 years now. Staff are very friendly, portions are huge and food is delicious. I’ve been to some chip shops in my time, nothing beats Crispins.

I had just moved into the area and needed a fuss free dinner. Decided to pop by and get some fish and chips. First time i had it, it was amazing! The chips were light and fluffy on the inside and the right amount of crispy on the outside. Fish was so fresh and moist and battered was fried to perfection. The next few visits however, some days good, some not so (fries seemed old, fish soggy). Wish there was more consistency!

Worst customer service the wrong order was given to me and the man on the phone was very rude and spoke down to me. He wouldnt offer to rectifying his mistake and just kept saying 'I have done this for 20 years'. Will never be returning.

Been going there for years the best ever fish and chip shop in medway. Good kebabs and salad. Their chips are really tasty. Give this place a try best ever.

Used crispins several times but avoid a Friday night Waited in the queue for 25 mins finally put in our order and we had to wait another 20mins to get our food(only a burger needed to be cooked)Telephone orders seemed to be more important than the people queued in the shop and out side Staff seemed disorganised and over worked.Got home and the food was just warmThey need to employ someone just to take telephone orders as this is what confused the staffNormally this is as good take away

The people serving are nice, polite and helpful but the chips themselves are a bit rubbish, had twice cooked chips more than once, not nice. Reasonably priced, if you go when they are busy, you get better chips as they are fresh.

Wow what great tasting fish and chips. We decided to use Crispins for tea and on arrival was asked what we wanted. Two cod and one chips please. The cod was cooked for us while we waited and was piping hot when we got it home. The single portion of chips was enormous and plenty for 2-3 people. Great taste and to be recommended.

Really lovely fish and chips served here at Crispins, and the staff are lovely too which is such a bonus. It is my fish and chip shop of choice now, crispy chips and gorgeous batter on the fish. Lovely.

They have a very varied range of food, I have been in here when they have been queuing out of the door, we timed it right tonight and there were only a few others in front of us. Most of the food is already cooked and just waiting to be served. Some chippies will only cook to order. We had the chicken which was well cooked and had a lovely crispy skin, and a cod, the batter was a little over crisp, but as my son removes this and doesn't eat it, it wasn't that big an issue for us, except that some of the fish had gone a little hard and stuck to the batter. Chips are nice and crispy.

Excellent place to get your fish and chips

Every time I visit this shop it surprises me how they are able to keep things ticking over as it's always busy. It was rammed today, staff working hard and quality didn't suffer - top quality food at good prices. A lot of different options and staff take time to talk to customers even though are busy.

First visited on Good Friday, and was not disappointed. The best fish and chips we've had locally. The staff were chatty and friendly and will definitely make this our local, even though we live 3 miles away.

Possibly the best chips in town, always fresh tasting. love the kebabs and battered cod. Polite and friendly staff. This is the only chip shop we use.

Patatas rellenas y el precioso pescado era fresco y sabroso. Viajó una distancia para ir ya que hay otros lugares más cerca, pero bien vale la pena el viaje.

Este es un pescado local y chips para llevar. No hay instalaciones para comer en allí.

Agenda apretada, así que pasó por cenar entre semana, buena selección, limpio y agradable, una gran porción de patatas fritas fácilmente alimenta a tres! ! !

Always reliable- chips are always nice and customer service is brilliant- quick and freshly cooked with cheap prices and is always beautifully cooked

They have never changed a tried and tested service. Chips have their own taste and style, nice traditional menu and good at delivering it, very good prices for a family takeout, been using for 30 years now and will continue to.

Got to Crispins at 8.50 pm was refused cod and chips as they were packing up so I went across the road to tasty fish bar instead the fish was cooked fresh and they don't close till after 10 pm won't be going back as cannot believe they close that early their loss

Crispins chips are always the best and you can't fault the service of my in laws local at all. Friendly staff, great quick service and tasty food.

We have used this fish and chip shop for a many years even though we have moved home we still drive to it because it is the best one for miles .we have visited on different days at different times and always had great service and excellent food have tried quite a few choices from the menu everything is well cooked and tasty we would not go anywhere else in this area .

well worth travelling for and one oof the better chip shops in medway. the food is always good and you get decent sized portions too

Had fish and chips a couple of times recently and really enjoyed them. Selection was great fish was good and the servings were large. Good value for money. Very busy place with lots of locals using the chippy

We have had a take away from here a few times in the past and always been good, we couldn't face cooking and thought lets gets fish & chips, staff were lovely and bubbly and offered a great service. But sadly the chips were really disappointing, really tiny and not what I would call chips really, need a good chunky ones in our eyes!? Fish was ok, bit tasteless and batted quite soggy. Such a shame as its not something we have often and wanted to really enjoy itBring back your chunky fluffy chips guys!

Always a big queue but worth the wait, quality local fish and chip shop. Recommended. Will be back soon.

This is our Go To chippy even though it's a ten min drive , always friendly , nice range of food with some tasty extras . In my opinion if there's Two of you a small portion of chips is enough for twoClean , always busy that speaks for itself We are not regular but when time is tight After school clubs , work etc this is reliable tasty food

I have not been there for a while popped in the afternoon for a portion of chips and I can see why that the place is just outstanding chips were out of this world but the all the food I have tried it is absolutely great if you have to travel a little distance to get good fish and chips burgers children's Food kebabs anything like that go here you will not be disappointed

Terrible chips - should of went to the chippy opposite spyglass. Used yo be great but not anymore, even the sausage was cold! Yuk

(1) (not Crispins fault) the Trip Advisor app put the shop the other side of the railway. Use Google maps!!But:(2) cash only -needs to modernise. Cash transactions carry their own overheads and risk. (3) Chips were poor although quantity can't complain about ( 1 large portion enough for 4 servings)(4) Fish was old. Batter wasn't great(5) Mushy peas all dried up -had to add waterWe will be looking for alternative fish'n'chips in the future in the Medway area - sorry guys.

I've used this chippy twice in the past and it's been pretty good, but I popped in on Saturday 21st in the afternoon, the chips were absolutely awful, they tasted like they had been microwaved and were days old. Also the grease that poured out of the batter on the battered sausage was disgusting. I know this chippy has a good reputation and it might have been an off day, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Best fish and chip shop in Rainham/Lower Gillingham by far. Good prices, always cooked fresh, and happy staff!

I have visited Crispins hundreds of times, and this time was no different. The food is great,well cooked, always using top ingrediants. The portion size is great. I would recommend this chippie to anyone. .

Best fish and chips in the Medway towns. The batter is always crispy, the fish portion is nice and fat - no tail ends to speak of and the chips are always big and chunky - no ends.They are delicious, so much so that I live 200 yards from another fish shop and hardly ever go there.

As this is very local to me, I have been there a few times, each time I have been disappointed. Chips are always horrid. Front of staff are not friendly. The last couple of times I have been it has been around 9.30 (shop closes at 10pm)Yesterday, Asked for fish, she then turned around, looked at the clock, and looked at me in disgust for asking for fish at such a late time, and simply said, NO it takes too long too cook! I walked straight out! (not the first time this has happened) I suggest they put a notice on the door informing people that fish will not be available after 9pm, or change the closing time of the shop. I won't be going back there again

This was the first time we have been to Crispins. We had cod and chips and were pleasantly surprised at such a large portion. The fish was lovely, thick and white, and though there was a large portion of chips we did find most of them were smaller than expected. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent with everything cooked fresh to order. We will be going there again and would recommend it.

Have been here a few times and only ever had one bad portion of chips. Also had meat and chips from here too and although not bad the meat comes in small chunks rather than long strips like from a kebab shop. But at £3.50 for a big box it's good enough. Will eat here again and recommend as better than the other chip shop that's there.

As this is our most local, we do use it, but every time we are disappointed.The staff are very polite and customer focused, however, the food is not good. The fish isn't very nice and the batter greasy. The chips are more often than not lots of small sharp pieces, no actual chips, and once the whole large portion was inedible and had be be thrown away.It's quite cheap, but if you can't eat it, that's irrelevant.I really wish they would sort theirselves out.

i went to this fish and chip shop on 14/11/2014 we had plaice and chips and cod and chips which was cooked to perfection this is a 1st class take away chippy with a varied menu in my opion the best in kent

I have sampled chip shops from Medway to Margate, and this is by far the best around. Never a poor portion of chips, cod or sausage in hundreds of visits - thoroughly recommend to anyone in the area!!

A friendly bunch work there and the food is excellent every time I visit. A pretty good choice is available with a lot of the fish being cooked to order.The chips are always superb, no matter what time your visit, and if you like things a little spicey try a chilli dip!

I will keep this short and sweet. I have eaten from here a few times now and cant fault the food I have had. The price, portions, and quality of food is very good.

I drive from Rainham, to this chip shop, passing at least 5 on the way, because they are just great.You just cant say enough about this place. If you are in the area go there. You wont get a piece of greasy old fish no matter what time of day. Its always fresh, its always nice. been going there for more years than I can remember.Excellent, excellent, excellent.

Been having Fish and Chips here for years - always good, never had reason to complain about anything.I am biased though as both my sons at some point worked part time here while at college a number of years ago.

I visit here most Thursdays as our takeway treat of the week. My daughter and I always have meat and chips and they never disappoint us. The food is tasty and the service is always friendly.

Friendly and attentive staff serving generous portions of chips with crispy battered fish. There are many chippies around this area and Crispins certainly stands out.

Seriously, it doesn't matter what time of day, the food will be to the same standard! I've got my favourite chef and my favourite server but all of them are great. Their kebabs are so tasty and not greasy and their chips are nice and crispy. I've used this chip shop since I was 7! And even when we're dining with friends 3 miles away - we'll still drive down to Crispins because no other chip shop will do!

Really great Fish & Chippy. Faultless Fish, and Great Chips, what more could you ask for.We have eaten Cod, Rock, and Plaice, all have been spot on.Friendly staff, good prices, clean shop and consistant food.Although I have never had them, I understand Kebabs and Pizza too !5 Star Rating From Us x
